Evaluation
Overall this project went a lot smoother than the first attempt, the character I created resembles a realistic style, although the anatomy is a little off in places and this is something I will be tirelessly working to improve I feel it fulfills what I planned to do in my learning agreement.
I have an annoying topology issue I couldn’t fix in time for submission, I posted a screenshot of the face topology as I was working on it, I used the stop staring book as a guide to make the edge flow around the eyes, mouth and nose. This seemed to be great until once I reached the texturing part of the process I noticed something had happened to the topology around the eyes. Although this character is blind and doesnt have the functionality a typical human should, its not too much of an an issue but it is still incorrect none the less. I could have fixed this with better time management.
I aimed to make this character as low poly as possible, back during the original unit George said this character will need to be around 15k tris, the character mesh itself is around that mark but with the extra pieces (slime, umbilical cord, gums and 5 teeth) the poly count ramps to around 25k. The texturing process was enjoyable as always, my textures aren’t as good as they could be, my UV mapping held me back in this part of the process and is something along with the anatomy I need to nail down as this will significantly improve the quality of my work.
The vernix slime I wanted to add to the character failed, I did not dedicate enough time to this area and was in a toss up as to wether to paint it in via the textures of the main mesh or make it as a complete other geometry. The slime should have come across creamy and waxy which doesnt read at all so in the final renders I removed this. Removing this hasn’t interfered with the design so much, the umbilical cord tells the viewer clearly that this is a fresh reborn adult male.
Although I wasn’t able to do this the first time round as I hadn’t actually made the villainess for my hypothetical game, I redesigned this Zombie style character to be the offspring of my boss character, Birtha, from SNU. I think the characters fit well together and it is clear they are apart of the same world.
