📢 ISRAEL HAS KIDNAPPED ALL 12 CREW ON BOARD THE MADLEEN HUMANITARIAN AID SHIP 🚨

Earlier this evening, the IOF boarded The Madleen humanitarian aid ship, headed to break the siege on Gaza.
As a result, 12 foreign nationals have been kidnapped by the IOF and their fate is currently unknown.
You can help.
You can contact the relevant ministries of foreign affairs for the crew on board The Madleen and also the UK foreign ministry as this was a UK flagged ship.
This is a violation of international law and an attack on the UK's sovereignty.

The crew on board The Madleen also reported white "paint" being poured on them and it's unknown what this substance was.

Please write to your local representatives and the relevant ministries of foreign affairs to demand the safe release of all 12 crew members who were on board The Madleen.
This is a crisis.

very heartbreaking news, but actor jonathan joss was confirmed dead today. he was killed in a shooting after an argument with his neighbor, and the neighbor is in custody now.
jonathan joss was most famous for playing ken hotate in parks & rec and voicing john redcorn in king of the hill. he was also a musician, part of a band the red corn band. he was born and raised in san antonio, and he was comanche and white mountain apache. he was 59 years old. i know he’s had some struggles over the years, especially this past year when a fire claimed his house and the lives of his two dogs. but that’s why i wanted to choose a picture of him smiling - he was a comedian, and he was beloved for being so talented and full of humor.

🇺🇸nationwide cucumber recall due to salmonella outbreak🇺🇸
FDA & CDC insist: if you are in the US and do not know where your cucumbers come from, throw them out NOW!
FDA publish date may 20, 2025.
🇺🇸FDA investigation - CDC investigation🇺🇸
Bedner Growers, Inc. of Boynton Beach, Florida is voluntarily recalling cucumbers sold at Bedner’s Farm Fresh Market between April 29, 2025, and May 14, 2025 because they have the potential to be contaminated with Salmonella, an organism which can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems. Healthy persons infected with Salmonella often experience fever, diarrhea (which may be bloody), nausea, vomiting and abdominal pain. In rare circumstances, infection with Salmonella can result in the organism getting into the bloodstream and producing more severe illnesses such as arterial infections (i.e., infected aneurysms), endocarditis and arthritis.
some emphasis mine.
the cucumbers are contaminated with salmonella, and were sold between april 29th and may 14 2025.
salmonella infection usually causes illness 6 hours to 6 days after exposure, and symptoms usually last 4 to 7 days.
but there is a catch.
The recalled cucumbers were sold directly to consumers at the three Bedner’s Farm Fresh Markets locations in Florida (Boynton Beach, Delray Beach, and West Palm Beach). Because the recalled cucumbers do not bear any stickers or other labeling, customers should discard and not consume any cucumbers that were purchased at these locations between April 29, 2025, and May 14, 2025. The recalled cucumbers also were sold to a wholesale distributor, which has been directed to further contact its customers with recall instructions.
emphasis mine.
the recalled cucumbers were sold directly to consumers, and also sold wholesale nationwide. they have no label. there is no way to identify if your cucumber is affected unless you know where it came from or you get contacted by where you bought it from. real fucking helpful!
illnesses have already been reported all over the country.
The cucumbers are being recalled because they have been linked by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) to a Salmonella outbreak that has resulted in 26 illnesses in AL, CA, CO, FL, IL, KS, KY, MI, NC, NY, OH, PA, SC, TN, and VA.
currently, 26 illnesses and 9 hospitalizations have been linked to this outbreak. these numbers are expected to rise.
the true number of people who got sick is probably much higher than this, and it takes 3-4 weeks to link any given illness to an outbreak. the CDC estimates that only 1 in 30 cases of salmonella actually gets diagnosed. as in, there may be 30 times as many infections as currently reported.
in 2024, this same grower was involved in yet another cucumber salmonella outbreak that sickened over 500 people and hospitalized over 150.
the list of where people got sick is NOT a comprehensive list of where the contaminated cucumbers were sold. these cucumbers were sold nationwide. from the CDC:
People reported buying and eating cucumbers from a variety of locations including grocery stores, restaurants, hospitals and on cruise ships. FDA's traceback investigation identified Bedner Growers Inc. as the common grower of cucumbers in this outbreak.
emphasis mine. because there is no branding, there are no images to help figure out if you are affected.
but here is what the FDA and CDC recommend:
If you cannot tell if your cucumber was grown by Bedner Growers, throw it away. When eating out over the next week, ask if cucumbers were from Bedner Growers or Fresh Start Produce Sales, Inc.
some emphasis mine.
finally, not everyone who got sick from the cucumbers said they actually ate cucumbers. there were likely cases of cross-contamination from food being prepared somewhere that came into contact with the contaminated cucumbers.
learn more from the CDC page on salmonella infection here. it is worth noting that infection from salmonella can sometimes cause medical issues for years.
when in doubt, throw it out!

So much of the conservative mindset seems to just be "but making things better takes WORK and I don't wanna do that."
Yeah, preventing people with a history of sexual assault from high-level jobs leaves very few qualified men. Hire more women until the men do better. It's going to take a while. Too bad, deal with it.
Yeah, giving undocumented people due process means individual court cases for every person. Fix the bureaucratic nightmare of asylum seeking and then give the people the rights their entitled to. It's going to take a while. Too bad, deal with it.
Yeah, letting trans women use the women's bathroom opens up a window for hypothetical cis men to be more brazen about assault. Fix your sexual assault problem instead of blaming the trans women. It's going to take a while. Too bad, deal with it.
Positive change takes real effort and I am grabbing you by the scruff of your neck and telling you that it is worth it. Giving up and saying that life sucks and we should just live with it is destroying us. Rome wasn't built in a day, but it can burn in one and I am smashing your fiddle over your head until you listen.

in today's episode of petty stuff that gets to me with Lydia I posted something on reddit which I know is not a nice place but I was not expecting some random person with 4 numbers at the end of their username telling me I have no right to claim some influence of millennial culture because my classmates were into Hannah Montana to get under my skin to the point that when I try to write about things I feel like are more common to people 5-15 years older than me I can imagine a bunch of spectral late30somethings with pitchforks ready to call me a spoiled child who will never understand The Struggle at a level of being at least teen-level conscious in the 2000s (the writing in question is me making up a fake Dave Malloy musical song involving a thirtysomething (average dave malloy character) talking about her midlife crisis) i guess being called spoiled and immature is just the most hard hitting insult I get from people
#scream at void#man I just feel kind of ungenz for liking white guitar bands and wonder jokingly if it was the influence of too much vhs in my formatives#ik generational identifiers are pretty subjective like I majored in anthro and I shouldn't be letting someone who thinks they're super#serious get under my skin#maybe its something something people either 5+ years older than me or 5+ years younger than me are easier to talk to and I want to feel#that especially the older ends of this group can not see me as a baby?#i just need an event to dump the disabled girl suffering on i guess#lyd vent

Hey, folks living in Kansas, Mississippi, and Maine! Do you like science?
Please, please, please: call your senators (particularly Moran, Hyde-Smith, and Collins, respectively) as soon as possible to demand science and especially biomedical health science funding be enshrined in the US federal budget.
Yes, these are all GOP senators. We need them to break, which means we need to put as much pressure on them as possible to maintain science funding. And you guys living in their states are their constituents, whose words will carry the most weight with them.
This is a skeet from Needhi Bhalla, who is a long time scientist and advocate who was part of the NIH hearings this past week. She said that these specific three are the GOP senators who indicated valuing American research enterprise and biomedical enterprise. Tell them you value these things too. We are dying over here, and if we want an academy left--if y'all want colleges to go to--we need your voices desperately.
Please make those calls!

I know we're all tired of political posts telling us to call people to protect our rights, but this is a big one.
H.R. 633, The TAKE IT DOWN act, could be put through a House session as early as next week according to the schedule.
While this bill's intention is to make it easier to remove AI and deepfake pornography and other nonconsensual depictions of identifiable adults and minors, the way the bill is written poses a danger to free speech and the ability to post lawful content. As the way the bill's takedown system is written, there's a mandatory 48 hour takedown notice period with no way to appeal in the event of a wrongful report. Meaning this could just as easily be misused to report lawful content and speech that someone dislikes for any reason and have it removed without proper cause.
Indeed, Donald Trump has himself said that he blatantly intends to misuse the bill himself, which he has been touting alongside Melania Trump.
" "Once it passes the House, I look forward to signing that bill into law. And I'm going to use that bill for myself too if you don't mind, because nobody gets treated worse than I do online, nobody," Trump said, drawing laughs from the crowd at Congress. "
This is a blatant admission of the intent to misuse a law which could otherwise be used to help people who are victims of a serious crime in order to silence people he feels are not treating him properly online. Don't let him get his hands on that power in a time when he is already willfully putting the powers of checks and balances in a shredder for his own ends.
Call, email, and fax your House representatives to let them know just how dangerous this bill could be for America's already endangered free speech.
If you need a basic call or email script to base your words on, you may use the one I will add below. Thank you for taking the time to contact your representatives, and do your best.
"I would like to inform my representative about the dangers posed by H.R. 633, the TAKE IT DOWN act of 2025. While this bill is well-intentioned, the provisions provided in its takedown system and overly broad language are insufficient to prevent its measures from being abused by bad actors who would use it to remove speech, images, and information they disagree with rather than using it for its proper purpose of protecting others intimate images, both real and deepfaked, from being used to harm them.
The president has said himself that he intends to misuse this bill for its own purposes, and it should be in the interest of you as my representative to prevent such a blatant misuse of legal power to silence free speech. If the language of this bill cannot be altered, then it should be rejected at all costs to protect the free speech that is held so valuable in this country.
Vote NO ON H.R. 633, The TAKE IT DOWN act."

I'm still thinking about how the younger Kennedys, including RFK Jr, would apparently pretend to get hit by cars and then berate the drivers saying "you've killed another Kennedy!" And then the dead Kennedy would get up and they'd all run away shouting "it's a Kennedy miracle!"
