So, AO3 got scraped for generative AI this past week.

I'm still trying to find out what exactly is happening, but from what I know so far, a user on the AI website called Hugging Face is the culprit. Archive of Our Own is aware and is currently trying to pursue legal action against HF and from what I can tell, the data set it stole is temporarily disabled.

Everything that was posted before March 2025 was susceptible to this scrape, so basically everything I've ever posted on there might've been included.

I'm sure this isn't the first time my writing has been stolen by AI. I wrote for an online news outlet for a few years. My articles have probably already been scraped. But publishing to AO3 is something I do for FUN, so it's even more frustrating.

Let's hope that AO3 is able to get the dataset taken down. Meanwhile, I'm planning to make my account private, to users only, and I suggest you all do the same.

#important #I looked up Ao3 scraped AI 2025 to see if I could find other things confirming this #I have found a few other reddit posts; tumblr posts; and twitter threads that confirm this #Not the most reliable sources but at least there’s something #The reddit thread urges to make your fics private #I hope they find a better solution because spend time to make sure everyone’s allowed to read my work #and I hate AI #But I also hate having to make an account every time I wanna read/do stuff on a website #and I know other people do too #Ao3’s process is not exactly the easiest to make an account for either #it’s definitely more secure; sure; and not TOO much personal info you gotta fill out #But it takes like a week to get your email verified. Lot of anxiety from that :/#Plus some people just don’t feel comfortable making an account for things #idk man these are just my thoughts #i’ll shut up now
