@ofsacrum - davina !
“hey, davina.” avery sat down beside davina in one of the most random aisles of books in the library, not that they were paying much attention to which aisle it was. “why does it look like you’re hiding back here?” they had made it their mission to introduce themselves to each and every one of elena’s friends here. yes, they were going to be that annoying person; but avery did like davina, genuinely. she was interesting and most definitely hiding something.

loretta !
a relieved grin stretched across her features the incessant tone no longer reverberated off her auds as the brunette ended it . ‘ you doll , are a lifesaver , i’m sure they won’t worry too much about it . ’ the vampire waved her hand , waving of their actions as if she knew what she was doing . she didn’t , not even close , loretta was confused by the times , life was simplier back in the day and she’d spent all her time focused on one thing since she was changed .
avery watched the girl’s features lift and felt their own features do the same, naturally. she was cute, it almost distracted avery from their true intent behind the random act of kindness. “so, no offense, but how do you not know how to use the phone? did you just get it or something?” they asked casually, in a friendly manner so to not sound too suspicious.

★·.·´¯`·.·★ 𝖔𝖕𝖊𝖓 𝖘𝖙𝖆𝖗𝖙𝖊𝖗
Around the square the world was silence with the exception of a paintbrush angrily brushing against an almost blank canvas. Painting always seemed to calm him down and prevent him from mindlessly slaughtering the locals. Although Klaus cared nothing for the lives of the town’s human population, he didn’t wish to draw attention to himself yet. As soon as he wished it the entire town would know his name but it was much too early for that. Soon a body moved in front of him, blocking the view he was so meticulously painting. “Excuse me love you may wish to move and refrain from blocking my view.”
it was exactly what avery hoped would happen. they’d stop for one moment, innocently in the park, and get called out by the suspciously painting man. from the moment avery had arrived in town they had made it their mission to know and destroy each and every supernatural being of the werewolf or vampire or both type. “are you sure i’m not the view?” they forced a laugh, attempting with ease to make it sound as real and sweet as possible, before moving around to look at what he was painting. “so what do you like about this view? why not that one, or the clock tower over there?”

ophelia !
Ophelia was frustrated by the other. She’d seen one other vampire in her life and she’d fled him as quickly as he could offer his services to her. She’d obviously read things about vampires, but she’d never thought they were real. Just because she was a witch didn’t mean chupacabras were killing all the goats in a village. Everything Fee had ever read about vampires slipped out of her mind as she read it. Fiction didn’t need to stick in her brain. Now, she regretted that sentiment greatly. “I-I don’t know! I can’t—“ Fee could already feel the internal ache of magic depravation. She needed more magic but she didn’t have anywhere to get it. She’d just have to use what she could. Her eyes fluttered shut. It was fuzzier, the distinction between forest and foe. After a beat, she felt it. “Over there,” she snapped. Ophelia pointed a finger toward her best guess. She already felt weak, hungry even. She’d had to worry about that later. All that matter right now was survival.
a second after avery activated the vervain bomb, they whipped their arm in the direction the girl pointed, releasing it into the air blindly. avery trusted that it would at least somewhat get the vampire, if not full on. that, or at least scared it enough to get it to back off of them so they could leave. avery trusted that this girl knew what she was talking about and did not just set them up for failure, or death, or worse. whatever happened, they didn’t have time to wait around to see and take their chances. almost as soon as the bomb left their fingers, avery gripped her arm again and started running, leading them closer and closer to the lights and farther and farther from the bomb, from the vampire, just as it exploded. they couldn’t look back to see if the girl was still in her senses or to see if they got the vampire, they could only focus on making sure the pair of them got out of there, by running. and running hard.

“an animal attack? seriously?” lips curved around an apple he had grabbed from one of the famers market vendors, taking a large bite out of the side. on the inside, he was kind of offended. were they calling him an animal? if they only knew. “an animal could never.”
avery was intrigued, hanging in the shade of an umbrella at the farmer’s market. “oh, you don’t think so?” they and anyone with a sense of individual thought wouldn’t believe such a story. but for the sake of feigning innocence with no ability to inflict harm, they’d play along. “what’s your theory, then?”

loretta !
‘ am i doing this right ? ’ loretta had spent so much of her time focused on one thing that now she’d found him again , she had no true idea what was going on in this day and age . the little device in her finger tips made an awful repetitive sound that just kept going , she raised it high in the air , like she’d seen another girl do as she paused on the street . ‘ it’s not stopping ? ’ the southern accent was twinged with confusion as she glanced around . ‘ why won’t it stop ? ’
it was a red flag. there was not a person near this girl’s age alive who didn’t know how to use their phone, so naturally avery assumed this girl was dead. only in this town could a hunter assume that an innocent-looking blonde from the south was a vampire, at this point probably from a lot of years ago if phones weren’t a thing yet. so, avery stepped in to save the day. “hey, let me help,” they offered, putting on a kind and friendly face as they reached for the phone, taking it gently and pressing the ignore button on the device. “i hope you didn’t want to talk to that person, i ended the call.”

freya !
The blonde thought over the other’s answer for a moment. “How selfless of you,” she said lightly. “Though I don’t imagine there’s much to tidy in a beautiful place like this.” Freya shook her head, letting her blonde locks bounce about. “Just arrived in fact. Here to visit some family, if I can find them.” This was in fact the birthplace of many of her siblings. And had her mother not been a monstrosity, it would have been her home as well. Freya heard a glass behind her crack and she sighed. Her control was far better now than it had been years prior, but it still required constant vigilance.
avery shrugged their shoulders. “eh. you’d be surprised.” that was all they said about it, before moving on along with her, subject-wise. “who’s your family? maybe i can help you out, i’m kind of the expert on this town, and the people in it” they said, once again hinting that she should tell them her last name. the fact that freya didn’t seem alarmed, didn’t even turn, at the sound made avery suspicious. they narrowed their eyes, sitting up slightly and leaning forward on their elbows. “did you do that?” avery asked, nodding their head towards the broken glass behind the girl.

@fixatiions - peter !
avery could always either be found sleeping in random places, or doing research in the library. today, they were doing the latter when they noticed what was open on one of the computer screens, behind which a boy they’d never seen sat. they stopped, slinging themselves in the seat next to the boy and taking the computer’s mouse, roughly into their own hand. “what the hell do you think you’re doing? you can’t look at this stuff here.” whether he was a serious supernatural researcher, a clueless kid, a member of the supernatural himself or all of the above, avery was always the confrontational type. if anyone they didn’t know was onto their career, it was a red flag.

elena !
A WITHERED PHOTOGRAPH RESTS IN HER HANDS , and when she looks away, her eyes are still hazed with the reflection of familiar features that line the picture effortlessly. she carefully hangs it up beside her mirror, the newest addition to the array of memories that crowd her room. whether it’s a good or bad thing, she’s not sure; elena finds they either comfort her or swallow her whole, depending on the day. a brief look towards her reflection prompts a careful huff, and she can’t tell if she’s bored or simply unfulfilled. the knock at the door comes as a surprise, since there’s no one else home but her. still, elena isn’t particularly fearful of the neighborhood they live in; it’s a picturesque town, crime rarely occurs. when she approaches the door, she opens it almost immediately , assuming it’s jeremy. when she sees that it’s not , she’s taken aback slightly. “ avery , hi , ” elena says , smiling.
their plan formulated perfectly in their mind in the seconds they waited for the door to pull open and reveal the brunette. “hey, elena.” avery returned the smile, always surprised by the girl’s kindness, even to those she barely knew like avery. it was something this town lacked greatly, with all the disgusting creatures and supernatural folk prowling around. it was almost a relief to know there were good people left, untainted by the evil that stained mystic falls and its history. even if avery was here because they knew there weren’t good people. “this is probably weird, but uh, do you think you could help me get ready for the founder’s ball?” avery could feign innocence, sweetness, naivety and day of the week, even if guilt twisted in their stomach. “i know it isn’t for a few days, still, but i don’t have an outfit, or a date, or anything like that--and i’m new to town and everything.”

ophelia !
Ophelia was surprised by how upset they still were. Had they not heard her? She’d broken bones. The two of them should have plenty of time to run away. Not that she wanted to walk, but it worried her how worried they still seemed. She was glad that they were leading her in the right direction, but Fee couldn’t help constantly looking over her shoulder. It wasn’t like she could see anything in the dark, but she couldn’t stop. “It’s hurt, right? How is going to follow us?” she asked in hushed tones, slightly breathy from the running. She didn’t understand this unseeable beast. It was crazy that they were running so fast right. Fee could see the break in the trees where lamps were lighting everything. Her legs fumbled on some roots, but she kept her balance thanks to their hand.
"seriously? girl,” avery began, whispering loudly as if the vampire couldn’t hear that if it tried hard enough. in fact, the vampire might even hear them better than this girl did, considering avery was very out of breath from running, and preoccupied by their destination. if this girl could do something like breaking it’s bones with her mind, she should know vampires heal as fast as humans check their phone after class or work. but avery would have to explain when they were safe, because avery could hear the whipping of branches, the whizzing of shadows around them. the vampire, another vampire, or the wind? now that they’d attacked the blood-sucking monster, no way the vampire would just leave the pair alone. avery wouldn’t take chances, not with someone else involved. they gripped the ginger’s hand tighter and pulled her around the side of a thick tree. the hunter wrapped their fingers around a vervain bomb from their backpack, releasing the girl’s hand and raising their arm to throw it, scoping all directions. it was one of the very few they had left, already. “where is it? i’m going to get it again, where is it?” they hissed at the girl, needing her to use whatever powers she had, if she knew how to. if she had any left. if it was possible.

“ these are BLOODY delicious, “ she echoed as she nibbled on a bit more of the cookies in the center of the table. she’d in the coffin for too long, she’d missed the pure pleasure of something delicious on her stomach, spreading over her taste buds. she looked up not realizing how engrossed she was. “ i beg pardon, what did you say? “
avery eyed the woman suspiciously. new, british, eating and appreciating the cookies like she’d never had one before. they tilted their head back slightly, opening their mouth again to repeat their statement. "i said, yeah, i know. cookie day is pretty much the best day of the month.” but avery didn’t come for the cookies, they came to the bakery because cookie day was popular and people would be coming in and out for hours. a lot of opportunity to learn things from a lot of different people.

her features mimick that of avery’s brows raising close to her hair line as she eyed them . ‘ there’s always vervain . ’ she reached beneath the counter for the vial of clear liquid , one could consider it water if they had limited knowledge . she held the vial up between thumb and forefinger . ‘ not going to keep them away but it’ll keep you , you . ’ she told them vaguely . ‘ and there is obvious wolfsbane for your puppy problem . ’
avery wasn’t a goddamn amateur. they knew about vervain, wolfsbane, and everything in between and on either side. it was almost humiliating for the blonde woman to suggest such things. although, to be fair, avery had asked. “okay. you wanna tell me about garlic and silver too?” she obviously knew something, and whether the belief and knowledge was real or fake, avery was infinitely curious. always. “so, what. . . you here to protect the town or make everyone paranoid? who, exactly, is your target audience here?”

hayley !
SHE WATCHED THEM WITH TREPIDATION , mimicking the steps on another machine & yet the coffee seemed to come out looking .. different . why was being a teenage werewolf on the run so much easier than making a decent cup of coffee . ‘ right , i’m gonna need that cheat sheet tattoo’d on my arm if i’m getting any of this right . ’ she raised her eyebrows at the other with a slightly chuckle , junking the sludge that lay in her cup . ‘ yeah .. are the people here always this old & grumpy ? ’
avery wasn’t worried about hayley’s struggle to match their coffee expertise. she’d just started. if she was still making these mistakes. but they couldn’t help the smile growing slowly towards laughter on their face. “don’t worry about it. they won’t fire you. yet.” they slipped the double-sided, laminated cheat sheet from beside the machine and held it out to her. “yes. especially if you try explaining to them what non-binary means,” avery joked with a roll of their eyes, gesturing to the they/them pronouns printed beneath their name tag. talking about their pronouns made people uncomfortable, but avery didn’t get that vibe from hayley. hayley was chill.

vicki !
her day was going terrifically note the sarcasm , her day was so terrible that as the person began to drift into a slumber , she considered putting out her cigarette on their skin just for giggles , to ruin someone else’s day maybe . but it wasn’t until the thick curly hair landed against her shoulder that she made a move , shoving them from her body with a rough hand . ‘ jesus christ , get off of me . ’
there was peace and relief in the darkness against the blaring sun when avery’s eyelids drooped shut. but it lasted, quite possibly, less than three seconds before they shot open again when they were shoved by the girl they’d fallen asleep on. “alright, damn.” avery rubbed their eyes, slumping back against the bench, and turning to the stranger with their eyebrows raised. “maybe you’re the one who needs a nap.” despite their snarky statement, there was a hint of an amused smile on their lips, because they didn’t really think the girl deserved their annoyance. she was probably just having a bad day, so avery wouldn’t take it personally. plus, she was gorgeous.

freya !
Freya chuckled. “Thank you. You’re quite clever yourself, Avery.” She tipped her head to one side and looked off in the distance. “I’ve had some time to think about such things as moral implications. There are times when they should be considered and others when they should be neglected—in my subjective opinion.” She laughed and shook her head. “Sorry, I shouldn’t start conversations with stranger about deep personal opinions, should I?” She turned to face Avery. “Enough about my ramblings, tell me about you. What do you do for fun around here?”
avery shrugged off her words, both the reciprocated compliment and the apology, which they didn’t really think was necessary. stimulating conversation was far more productive and fascinating than hitting dead end after dead end in these newspapers. “you could say i. . .” they paused, considering lying and saying something basic like working, reading, or running; all of which avery did sometimes. but especially as of late, they have had other priorities. not to mention, with freya and her so-called subjective truths, she would probably see there was more to their answer. “clean up around here. what about you? have you been here awhile?”

avery was falling asleep. it was the middle of the day, they were sitting on the bench next to someone with the sun beating down on them, and their eyelids were drooping. they hadn’t been sleeping a ton, between all the things they’d been trying to do since they arrived in town. also, benches weren’t a comfortable bed and their backpack wasn’t a comfortable pillow. there was a notebook on their lap, notes, lists and scribbles and even a few doodles lining nearly every page, inside the margins and out. their head lolled to the side as fighting sleep became too hard for them, landing sloppily on the shoulder of the person next to them.

@apostcte -- samaira reaux !
avery needed to familiarize themselves with the woods, and they needed to do it fast. obviously they weren’t going to be able to do it in one night, but one day at a time they were learning the ways of the forest. the routes, the clearings, the biggest trees to hide behind, to practice on. it was dawn on the day avery approached a clearing to find some weird shit going on, at the hands of a girl. a sly smile grew on their face as they watched the happenings unfold for a few seconds. instead of playing the dumb, innocent human or the intense, intimidating threat, they stepped forward farther into the field and questioned, “are you doing magic?” they weren’t a friend, nor were they an enemy, to witches. every witch they’d come across was different, like people it was a hit or a miss. mostly, avery didn’t mess with witches, but they were intrigued by them. this one didn’t seem to be doing anything too friendly out here alone in the woods. intrigued was an understatement.
