The city has a reputation for the spread of rumors. Quicker when involving the founders. For the first time in nearly fifty years, Chan has chosen a new clan member to join the seven vampire leaders.
The group will be eight strong now. In reality, this works better for the coven. Chan keeps everyone in pairs for tasks. Especially when leaving the walls of the city.
Over the past few years, Jeongin has consistently shown his loyalty by offering help whenever needed. From volunteering for extra patrols to helping fellow newborns with transitions. If there was a need, Jeongin responded. No job too unreasonable or trivial. If it was to better the town, he was first in line to volunteer.
The group thought the eagerness was gratitude for the care he received. Perhaps it was having freedom again. Genuine freedom he was unaccustomed to since before being turned. His second chance allowed him to flourish in the community.
When given the opportunity, Jeongin is a natural at leading. Even though he’s shy around new people, he’s driven compared to Chan’s other creations. Such a position is stressful. Few attempt to slip into the role. Instead, the newborns listened to Jeongin’s command without hesitation and the humans enjoyed Jeongin’s sociableness once he warmed up to them.
Chan met with each leader, questioning their stance on the potential promotion. To no one’s surprise, the vote was unanimous. Jeongin already bonded naturally with everyone’s dynamics.
A week later, Chan offered the proposal. Seungmin recalls the surprise on Jeongin’s face. He stared in disbelief for a moment before breaking out into a smile. Jeongin could barely speak, stuttering out an excited ‘yes’ to their leader.
Now a celebration is in order for such an event. Currently, the group wishes to celebrate in private, followed by a public event later on in the week. The plan tonight to meet up at the Chan’s estate at sundown. Half of the group was here waiting for the rest to arrive.
Seungmin walks out onto the large balcony once the sun tucks the last of its rays under the horizon. Hyunjin follows right after, carrying two bottles of wine plucked straight from Minho’s collection. He argues the vampire keeps the best wine in the city from the rest of them. Seungmin only shakes his head in response, knowing Minho will disagree with such a claim. Good thing Hyunjin is one of the fastest creatures here. He may need that speed to outrun Minho’s wrath.
A laughing Felix soon steps out with the youngest vampire in tow. The group of four sit around the set of tables and chairs to wait for the others.
Last they heard, Changbin is still stuck in the mine outside town. The elevator in the shaft is giving the elder vampire some trouble. Once the miners are safe, Changbin will make his way over to the estate.
Jeongin mentions Jisung is wrapping up a meeting with a few of the human officials. The meeting ran late as the humans often ramble. Jisung is the only one patient enough to endure it.
Chan and Minho are the remaining two. A minor commotion on the edge of the city is keeping the pair preoccupied. Hyunjin caught little about the situation, only getting wind that the pair will be on their way once resolved. The four will start the celebration without them. The night is young anyway.
“Congratulations Jeongin!” Felix is his first to raise his glass of wine. “It’s an honor to have you among us.”
The younger vampire is bashful, while unable to hide his smile. “I am not worthy.”
“Nonsense!” Hyunjin pipes up, placing a firm hand on his shoulder. “You have earned the title. Be proud of yourself. You’ve come a long way.”
The group passes time bringing up mundane topics. Nothing of real importance. Old stories of their own initiation to the role. Hyunjin’s memory of his celebration is foggy. Only recalling the face of the cake he received from Minho in the downstairs ballroom. Most of the town’s residents were in attendance. He holds no grudge. In reality, he found it amusing. Hyunjin swears his revenge was worth it. Striking back on Minho’s birthday the following year, dousing the creature in expensive champagne. Jeongin laughs as the story is told, moving the bottle of wine they share closer to Felix out of precaution.
“Chan didn’t let him retaliate. Told him I simply returned the favor.” Hyunjin states, smug with his revenge tale. “We’re even now. Though I still sleep with my eyes open.”
Seungmin is the first to notice the shift around Jeongin. The youngest’s eyes lock on the north part of town. His brows knit together in confusion before leaning closer towards the railing. He questions the youngest. “What is it?“
“Don’t you see it?” Jeongin points towards the edge of the city. “A fire. There.”
“Minho’s estate.” Hyunjin sputters out. Concern is heavy in his voice. The glass in his hand nearly shatters from the careless toss towards the table. He rises out of his seat towards the railing. Without a second thought of distance, slips over the balcony, landing gracefully on his feet two floors below.
“Hyunjin!” Felix rushes to lean over to question the other. “Where are you going?”
“Minho is on the south side. I’ll find him.” He replies, now yelling as he runs towards the nearby stable. Hyunjin reappears a mere moment later, having grabbed the first available horse. He shouts out an order before rushing off. “Go check it out. We’ll meet you there.”
The three remaining vampires heave themselves over the railing as Hyunjin did. Seungmin tries to squish down any worry in his gut when retrieving a horse. His fingers are numb, fumbling to untie the leather reins. A storm moved through earlier. Lightning could have struck the barn. Perhaps an accident with the staff. There are few humans living there year round. Someone will have caught on and is working to extinguish the flames.
The dark streets of the city are fairly empty with the sunset. Seungmin weaves past the few carriages still out, making it to the edge of Minho’s property in record time.
To his horror, the situation is worse than he expected. He was right. The fire must have started in the barn. Large black clouds of smoke rise into the sky as bright orange flames rage on. The wood structure went up like tinder. There is no salvaging the building.
The small city only owns one firehouse. The group is here, including several of Minho’s neighbors as well. Two lines of vampires and humans work in unison, guiding buckets of water from a well to prevent the house from catching on fire.
“Jisung!” Seungmin shouts out, spotting him leading one of Minho’s horses to a pen away from the commotion. Good, Seungmin thinks. He must have brought the newborns to the property. “What the hell happened?”
“I don’t know yet.” The vampire appears weary when jogging over to Seungmin. On closer inspection, soot covers his face and hands. He mentions all the farm hands are safe. No casualties out here, human or animal, thankfully. With the commotion, he can’t say the same for the house. “I haven’t been able to check inside.”
“Do you think it was an accident?” Felix asks. His voice is shaky. Worried, prepared to hear the worst. Still, he presses. “Jisung, did you see anyone?”
“I don’t think this was an accident. There were containers of oil in the barn.” Jisung’s round eyes are wide with panic. He shakes his head, words stumbling out. “C-check inside! I have to get this under control. If I don’t, the house will be a loss too. Get the staff out now!”
“I will. Minho is on his way.” Seugmin tightens his hands around the reins to shift his horse towards the house. A click of the tongue and the group is off once more. Felix stays right behind him. A few more feet and the group will round the corner.
The smell of blood hits before the front of the estate comes into view fully. Seungmin pulls on the reins to halt his horse. Felix’s own horse comes to a stop beside him as the three creatures take in the scene in front of them.
One of the once-sturdy oak doors is hanging off the hinges after being smashed into. Two human bodies lay on the steps of the porch. Seungmin recognizes both the steward of the property and a fellow staff member. Unease sits heavy, like a suffocating fog. The creatures don’t require breathing yet hold their breath.
Jeongin slips off before either vampire can respond. The youngest takes off past the length of the house, chasing something that the other two can’t see on the east side towards the wall of the city. Seungmin doesn’t have the luxury to chase after him. Not without knowing the wellbeing of the rest of the staff. Even without confirmation from Felix, he knows the two humans in front of him are dead.
The pair dismount their horses, cautiously, on edge while heading up towards the entrance. The smell of blood is stronger. There is an eerie stillness. The only noise Seungmin can hear is the commotion outside from the fire. He damns his hearing some days. A distraction from the scene in front of him.
Seungmin creeps along the foyer, eyes scanning the scene. Felix moves opposite of him, not saying a word. The vampires have an advantage with their stealth, able to sneak on the intruders if need be. It’s still too loud for Seungmin to decipher heart beats. He’s forced to rely on what he sees.
The familiar living room is unrecognizable. A bulk of the intricately designed furniture created to commemorate Minho’s marriage is now destroyed. Vases filled with harvested flowers from the estate dropped to the floor in a scuffle. The large painting of leaders above the fireplace has a symbol crudely painted over their faces. Seungmin sighs, recognizing it.
Hunters were here.
A sound in the nearby hallway catches Felix’s attention. The other follows on his heel to a door slightly ajar. Seungmin’s hand finds its way to his hip, where his hunting knife rests. He gives a silent nod to signal he’s prepared for whatever the universe has prepared for them on the other side.
At least that’s what he thought.
Once the door opens, Seungmin freezes, glued to the doorway. There’s a sharp pain in the gut as he takes in the sight in front of him. Minho’s wife lays in the middle of the room. Her hands on her stomach. Blood stains her hands and clothing red. More of the viscous liquid is pooling around her frame, spreading outward.
“No!” Felix exclaims, bolting for the petite frame in the middle of the room. He slips on the blood, resulting in him stumbling to knees. “No, no, no.”
No, not her, anyone else.
Seungmin shuffles closer, watching Felix sink his fangs into his wrist without a second thought.
All he can do is listen to the conversation unfold. She’s refusing his wrist, bloody hand pushing it away, stating it’s not allowed.
“There are exceptions to all rules.” Felix is struggling to hold back tears, voice cracking the longer he goes on. “I have to try.”
“It’s no use.”
“Never say such things.”
“Where is he? Minho?”
“He is on his way.” Felix briefly looks up at Seungmin, unsure of what to say, settling for the truth. “Hyunjin is bringing him. He will be here.”
The doors to the room slam open, revealing a rattled Minho on cue. Chan and Hyunjin are hot on his trail as the three enter the room. Seungmin takes the sign to back away to make room. Minho closes the distance with quick strides, knees buckling under him when he hits her side. He doesn’t care for the blood soaking into his clothes. All his attention is on his wife as he leans over her. Felix stays opposite of him, silent while the two talk. What remaining time she has should be for Minho and Minho alone.
There is nothing but relief in her voice when she calls for him. It’s weaker now. Minho made it just in time. Her heartbeat is faint, slow and inconsistent when Seungmin can finally focus on it. She only has a few breaths now.
“Minho, I’m sorry. The answer was yes. It always was.”
“Hush, I know.” Minho cups her face. A smile on his face appears for a second. It falls as Minho struggles to keep his composure. Always the one to stay strong, even in the hardest of moments. “You were scared.”
“Yet now I’m not.”
“Of course not. I told you there is no need for fear. I am here with you until the end.”
As if a snuffed-out candle, she’s gone. Minho’s frame sinks into itself when her heartbeat goes silent. Every vampire in the room can sense it. No one speaks, no one moves minus for a pained wail that erupts from him as the last wall holding him back crumbles. Minho pulls his wife closer to him, face buried into her neck, sobbing freely.
Seungmin has never seen Minho cry in the time of knowing him. The sight is unbearable. He forces himself to look down at the patterned floor. Scenarios are still running through his mind. If the group had been just a hair quicker, perhaps Felix could have turned her.
Speaking of said vampire, Seungmin glances over to see Felix with hands outstretched, shaking as he reaches for Minho’s shoulder. He stops just before he can console the other vampire.
Grief is heavy in the room. A member of the family was slain. A support pillar in the coven is gone and once again the vampires cruelly reminded how fragile human life truly is.
Seungmin thinks of his own wife. The very thought of losing you is beyond bearing. He can only imagine the excruciating pain Minho must be going through.
Eventually Chan’s voice breaks the silence in the room. His voice is heavy with pain. “Hyunjin, contact Changbin. Lock down the wall. No one out or in.”
Hyunjin gave a silent nod in acknowledgment. Before he could leave, the door in front of him slams open. A young servant barrels into the room, brushing past him for Minho. “Mister Lee!”
“Ethel!” Minho clambers to his feet to close the distance.
He wraps his arms around the young human, holding her close into his embrace. He pulls away just enough to brush the hair from her face. Tears stream down her face while sobbing.
“Are you hurt?” He questions. “You are safe, my child. I am here.”
“She told me to hide. Father tried Minho, he tried his hardest to keep them out.” Ethel’s lower lip quivers while her hands cling to Minho’s shirt. Her small frame trembles with her sobs. Her eyes widened when trailing over to his wife’s deceased body. The shocked noise from her makes Seungmin nauseated.
“No!” Minho shouts, forcing Ethel to keep eye contact with him. “Eyes on me. Focus only on me. You are safe.”
“Mister Lee…”
“No one will ever lay a hand on you.” Minho states. The words are a promise. One he will strive to keep. “As long as you live. I will protect you.”
As sweet of a moment, it’s ruined by the door to the room opening a third time. The small group turned towards the entranceway. It’s Jeongin who fills the space. He’s not alone, dragging two unconscious bodies into the room. He tosses a human towards Chan’s feet as if only a sack of potatoes. “Her blood is on him.”
Minho rises, letting Felix’s open arms take Ethel from him. The heat of the anger radiating off Minho is hotter than the sun. Both of his hands are tight fists, weapons ready to shred the hunters to indescribable pieces. His attention stays on the human, ignoring their leader’s call.
Just as Minho reaches the hunter, a hand square to his chest halts him. Chan places his body between them. The snarl that leaves Minho in response is purely animalistic, a warning for their leader.
“Minho,” Chan doesn’t falter, not intimidated. “Killing him now stops us from getting answers. We have to do this the right way.”
“The right way?” Minho knocks Chan’s hand away, before stepping close to leave no space between them. “My wife’s corpse lies five feet from you and you want me to be civil?”
“It’ll get us nowhere.”
“Our humans come first, Chan. Your words.” Minho jabs Chan square in the chest with enough force to send the other a step back. “Where is your backbone? If we don’t snuff this out, there will be more.”
“Precisely. We extract information from him. Learn what this hunter knows. Then prison him for his crimes.”
“Prison?” Minho scoffs, shaking his head in disbelief. His rage boils inside of to the point his whole body shakes like a leaf in the wind. “A life was taken. He deserves a worse fate.”
“If we kill him, we’re no better than them.”
Minho has never shared Chan’s ideology of sparing vampire hunters when possible. No, he agrees with the neighboring coven leader, Hongjoong. There are no changing beliefs. It’s kill or be killed. Seungmin understands Minho’s point of view. He doesn’t enjoy killing humans yet when someone takes an oath to devote their whole life to a creature’s demise? A line has to be drawn.
“You swore to protect our people! The same oath we all took. Where is your defense? My wife is dead!” Minho motions over to where his wife lays. “This is what your pacifism gets us!”
“We will find out how they snuck in. We will change our watch patterns and make sure it doesn’t happen again.”
“Inexcusable. What’s your army for? This is why we work with Hongjoong. Prison does nothing. There will be more.”
“Even more reason to question them. We need to know how many more.” Chan places a hand on Minho’s shoulder. He stares straight into Minho’s eyes, voice lowering, trying to coax him to calm down. He needs these words to help make a rational decision. “I swear to you. I swear you will receive justice when the time is right. Don’t let her death be in vain.”
Minho nods. He’s unhappy with this plan, still seething. He will continue for several days, similar to burning coals. Deep down, he knows Chan is right. They all do. There could be a bigger threat on the horizon. This town and the humans mean everything to the coven. Another surprise attack can be detrimental.
“Seungmin,” Chan’s voice brings Seungmin out of his thoughts now, listening to the orders being given. “Please help Minho get her off the floor. She belongs somewhere more comfortable. Felix, take Ethel. Round up staff and take a headcount. Once the fire is extinguished, work with Jisung to focus on their well-being. No one stays in this house tonight. I don’t care about the cost.”
“Can I use the east wing of your estate? We’ll need statements from staff. The closer they are the better.”
“Yes, good idea.” Chan nods before turning to face Jeongin. “You’re with me. We need to secure these two.”
With those last words, the group moves. Seungmin is gentle when lifting the lifeless frame off the floor. As much as he prays for this to be a nightmare, reality proves how real the situation is. The warmth of her body is already leaving. All that’s left is a shell of a human.
Minho motions to head outside. With no update on the fire, it’s safer for everyone. The next sentence he speaks causes Seungmin to let his tears fall. “I want her to see the stars one more time.”
Tumblr media
Tension runs high the following days. Hours pass in a blur for Seungmin, nearly spending all his time at Chan’s estate. The leaders are collectively busy following orders. The goal was to make sure the city was safe. For humans and vampires.
First step was upping the defenses with better patrol schedules for the wall. Then operations at the mine outside the city came to a halt for the week. Changbin offered to pay all lost wages if it meant keeping his workers safe. The humans gladly accept the offer. The only set of people causing a ruckus with shut downs were ones who leave to trade with surrounding cities. Chan begrudgingly allowed humans to leave the city with his clearance to reduce any issues. They were subject to inspections of goods before returning to the city.
As for the vampire hunters, four are secured in cells. Interrogation led by Chan revealed the group acted alone and not by command of the church. The group was strategic, splitting up to have a distraction at the main gate to keep Chan’s attention while the remaining attacked Minho’s home.
His estate lies tucked away from a majority of the city and close to the wall. An easy target and one with a quick escape. The fire would keep the staff busy, meaning the two could search the house for a slumbering Minho and eliminate him.
Minho’s wife confronted the hunters. She tried her best to keep the two at bay, knowing staff would eventually find them. However, being outnumbered led to her demise. With all the bad timing, at least Jeongin would subdue them at the wall. One good thing occurred.
Minho’s rage continues to grow with their leader’s decision to keep the hunters alive. The pair are arguing for the hundredth time outside. Seungmin sits with Felix on a balcony, eavesdropping on the conversation.
“Give me a moment with them.”
“No, you will kill them.”
“Get your hands dirty.” Minho briefly pauses before letting out a huff. “Or have you forgotten how?”
“Killing them won’t heal your pain. No matter how much you think it will.”
Minho sneers, taking a step closer. “What do you know, oh great one? What loss have you endured?”
“Minho enough!” Chan snaps back, voice thunderous compared to his calm demeanor a moment before. The leader’s patience finally pushed past the limit after the relentless arguing every time they met. “The pain you have is unimaginable and you have my sympathy. You will not question my authority when there is so much at stake. You don’t have to agree with my actions, but you will not disrespect me.”
Minho’s jaw tightens while contemplating how much further he can push today. It’s only when the feline eyes narrow Seungmin rises from his seat, half expecting to intervene in the physical fight about to break out. Chan doesn’t need help to defend himself. No, he worries more for Minho’s expense. The humbling submission will do nothing for his rage.
A ray of clarity must have struck the vampire. Only spitting out another rude remark before turning on his heel. Chan stays silent, taking his leave back inside his home once Minho is out of sight. Seungmin doesn’t miss the brief look of defeat on his face. Human deaths have always taken a toll on the leader. Now to lose someone in the inner circle and the weight of blame he accepts must be heavy. He wonders what else the leader can do. An attack towards the church directly dooms the city. A fate already circulating a neighboring coven.
Felix speaks up from behind him. “I talked to Minho this morning.”
“What did he say?”
“He doesn’t blame me. I know it’s not my fault. She was already gone, but I still should have forced her. To say I did everything.”
“You tried.” Seungmin says as he turns to face the other. “You saw the blood. There was no recovery. You kept her comfortable till he could arrive.”
The wall Felix built crumbles. Seungmin closes the distance to pull the other into his embrace. The pain is still a tender wound for all of them. Grief only gets harder the longer you exist. Even with a rotting heart in the chest cavity. Humans come and go while the vampires remain.
Felix questions when Seungmin pulls away. “Where are you going?”
“To Chan. He and I have something to discuss. Will you be alright?”
“Yes. I will be.” Felix nods, wiping his face clear of the fresh tears. “My apprentice starts at the hospital today.”
“Bury yourself in work with them. It will distract you.”
He doesn’t wait for Felix’s response, slipping through the door into the hallway. Collectively, the coven should take more time to mourn, yet it doesn’t feel right to. Minho and his wife would want life to go on. Don’t let time stop for them.
Although the more Seungmin thinks about it, the more he realizes the group may need a few days. Every fuse is short among them, bickering and snarky remarks. Minho even became a shell of himself, only focusing on the four hunters.
The walk is a brief journey to Chan’s office. To his surprise, his leader is not only here already, but with another familiar face.
Jisung.
Seungmin heaves a sigh, staying near the door to offer some privacy. Annoyance prickles his spine over the wait. It’s been impossible to meet with Chan in private. The topic isn’t urgent by any means, but after two days of trying, he’s growing impatient.
The emotion fades away when hearing the distress in Jisung’s voice. “I should have checked the house.”
“Do not blame yourself.”
“If I had, she wouldn’t be dead. I could have turned her.”
“And then the farmhands would have died. You responded correctly. You can only be in one place at a time.”
“But if I had-”
“Listen to me,” Chan cuts the other off, tone authoritative only to reassure. “There is no changing the outcome. You will sit in the misery of ‘what if’ for all eternity if you continue down this path.”
“All I saw was the farmhands.”
“Do not blame yourself. The visions are inconsistent. You prevented the tragedy from becoming worse.”
Interesting, Seungmin thinks. Jisung is unique among the group. He’s clairvoyant, able to see the world differently through bits and pieces of visions before the events occur. Jisung considers them useless information. Knowledge of a hazardous storm, a person’s hand before cards leave the dealer’s hand, or the repetitive scene with a human he’s never met. The last one happens the most, to his frustration.
Though on rare occasions, he catches wind about a potential threat that leads the situation to be tipped towards Chan’s favor. The creature dragging Jeongin along, for example. He knew the hour she would arrive in the neighboring town and where she slumbered. Chan would catch her off guard thanks to the info.
Jisung saw the fire, meaning he knew the potential fate of those humans. Chan is right. He saved lives. His visions are a blessing, a gift, even if he doesn’t agree.
His clairvoyance is an unknown side effect of being a vampire or existed beforehand. Jisung lacks the memory of his human self, only recalling the aftermath of Chan turning him in a moment of desperation to prevent death. The poor vampire searched for answers for several decades.
From what Seungmin gathers, Jisung has a lead, now asking to leave the city.
“Not now,” Chan denies him gently. “Give me some time and I’ll let you go.”
“I understand. We have more pressing matters.”
“Jisung, I beg you to keep him civil. Just a little longer.”
“He trusts me. I’ll talk him down. Let’s not make him wait a lifetime.”
With those words Jisung leaves. Seungmin comes closer, taking in his leader. There are dark rings around his eyes. The pale skin on the edges of his face turned a faint gray from lack of feeding. His body is attempting to preserve itself from rotting. The stress is worse than he thought.
Seungmin sinks into the chair across from Chan. “How is everything?”
“A disaster. Minho is adamant about helping with the interrogation. Two of the four have caved under the pressure, but not the one Minho wants. Useless babbles of the church.”
Seungmin nods while he listens, not surprised by the vampire hunter’s mentality. Their beliefs drilled into them at such a young age it’s nearly impossible to change their mindset. This batch of hunters is the worst. He recognized the insignia on the painting in an instant. The Church of Saint Michael is an extremist group going to any length to destroy covens.
The group of four had made it far, nearly 2,500 kilometers from the nearest establishment their church owned. The question still unanswered was who tipped them off about Minho.
There is a possibility that the four were tracking the vampire that created Jeongin. Although it’s been years since her death. The humans in the city come and go with Chan’s clearance. By chance, the hunters received information, hearing tales of the eight leaders and their odd lifestyles.
“If I allow him, he will go till he kills them. I want to. What do you think?”
“Honestly?” Seungmin shrugs. He tells the truth the more he ponders the thought. “I believe Minho would find closure by having the opportunity. He has always been eye for an eye.”
“Changbin said the same.”
“A vote perhaps?”
“No, the majority already rules.”
Of course, Seungmin knows this. The group understands what Minho needs. The people in town don’t have to know. Chan can hide his tracks. The hunters are a threat to everyone, not just the vampires in the city. Any human caught aiding the undead is an enemy to the church. Elimination of any trace is the best solution, even if Chan hopes beliefs can be changed.
“Enough of that. What did you wish to talk about?”
“My wife.” Seungmin pauses for a moment to collect himself. “She wishes to be turned.”
“We have talked about this.”
“Chan, I have given you ten years to think about my request. Ten years!”
Chan sits up straighter in his chair, taken aback by the sudden outburst from Seungmin. The younger immediately lowers his eyes to the hands in his lap, mentally pushing down his frustration.
“I want you two to be certain.” Chan’s voice is softer, genuine concern present. “This decision is irreversible.”
“After recent events? We have never been more confident in our choice.”
The request is consistently denied without a second thought. Chan states the pair needs to be committed to the idea, to the consequences that follow. The both of you‌ have discussed the decision. You were the one that initially asked, taking Seungmin by surprise. He would never push such a decision on you. In fact, he asked over and over to the point of annoyance to assure you wanted such a fate.
Now Seungmin needs the transition to happen more than ever. You continue to age, increasing the risk of sickness and death. If turned, you stand a far better chance at survival.
To Seungmin’s surprise, Chan relents. “Fine, you have my permission.”
“I want to be the one that does it.”
“It’s against tradition.”
“This differs from the typical newborn.” Seungmin counters. He recalls how a majority of the emotions involved with the transition. How every thought focuses on the newborn’s maker. Those are feelings Seungmin selfishly wants for himself. You are married to him, love him, so it’s logical he turns you. “I don’t want her to be sired by you.”
“What’s your plan? Your house is not safe.”
“I’ll take her. Deep in the woods. Like before, the old way.”
“Alone? In a time like this? No.”
“I refuse to wait any longer. I will do it without your blessing.”
“Changbin will come with you.” Chan’s eyes narrow in annoyance. “End of discussion.”
Seungmin doesn’t press further. Instead nods in agreement. He got his answer. Changbin will work with him, give him the space he needs. So the deal isn’t completely awful. Now he just needs to find the other vampire to plan. The sooner the better.
Seungmin rises from his seat, saying one last comment to his maker. “Feed, or you’ll scare the humans.”
Tumblr media
Felix isn’t one for home visits. Not anymore, not when his staff grew. The small one room expanded to a fully equipped clinic, making it impossible to fulfill the demand. Today, he makes an exception for you.
Once the city flourished, Chan abandoned a majority of the old ways surrounding vampires. The goal was to attract as little attention as possible. This included his turning process. Creation usually involves sharing blood. The exchange is unpleasant for humans. No one volunteers to ingest blood, let alone a vampire’s.
This is where Felix’s background comes in. He suggested blood transfusions. On record, it wouldn’t be suspicious if a human needed blood. There are a handful of situations when one is required. All Chan would have to do was be strategic with his timing. Far less suspicion in the city.
Today is your transfusion. Seungmin half expected you to be nervous even if just in anticipation. Instead, you sit with a calmness around you. Not even a hint of a spiked heart rate.
Felix takes his time explaining details, answering all questions. He’s currently dabbing an alcohol soaked cotton ball in the crook of your elbow as he speaks. “Imagine our blood is a parasite taking over yours. Even now, it will work through your blood, changing you.”
“Weird to be in this position where I take the blood.” You say with a small smile. “I still stand by what I said. Vampires are leeches.”
“Correct. We take the blood, it’s absorbed into our system, and provides the necessities.”
“How can you have blood to give if you’re dead?”
“Undead.” Felix corrects while his fingers search over your arm, stopping shy of your elbow to settle on a vein close to the surface. The needle enters your system with a quick prick. He’s always had a knack for precision. “Our blood is still in our system. It doesn’t go away. If I cut myself, I’ll bleed.”
A look of confusion on your face finds its way onto your face. You motion over to Seungmin with your free hand. “But he heals when he’s injured. Faster than a human. You say we can follow tradition for his sake, but how am I supposed to feed off his blood? He’ll heal.”
“If you apply pressure on the wound, it buys you time. Remember, only what you can stomach. You won’t need much.”
If Seungmin were human, his ears would burn red with embarrassment. He’s always been a fan of the old traditions. You don’t have to ingest his blood tonight, still you agree to indulge him. Mercifully, Felix doesn’t tease him. Instead, the other vampire understands how intimate this moment is for the two of you and one that will only happen once.
Felix gives a last check over his work before turning back to you. His fingers linger on the clamp, preventing blood from flowing. “I know the answer, but I have to ask one more time. Are you sure?”
Your heartbeat spikes briefly as realization hits you. The calm demeanor doesn’t change. Only a few breaths to prepare yourself, and for a second Seungmin worries you will say no.
You don’t.
“Yes, I’m sure.”
With a final confirmation from you, Felix let the clamp open. The blood moves, staining the tubing a dark red. Seungmin can barely contain his excitement, forcing himself to remain still as a board for the procedure.
The transformation is beginning.
A mix of pride and adoration runs through Seungmin as if adrenaline was itself. The love of his life finally being able to turn. An honor itself to use his own blood. You will be his creation, his newborn, and you will be perfect.

Outside the city rest a handful of dilapidated cabins, tucked away throughout the woods. A lingering as a sign of earlier times. The safe space originated for vampires to travel between cities. Perfect to slumber in the shallow crawl spaces under the floorboards, providing protection against the sun.
By horse, it takes Seungmin about an hour after sundown to locate one. He requested a favor from Hyunjin, asking for the location of a cabin in decent condition. The vampire delivered, stating he visits one in particular on hunting trips.
The cabin stands tall despite the harsh winters endured. Small patches of moss decorate the roof, not quite creating damage yet. Vines of leafy ivy run along a side, nearly devouring the entire wall. A quick check on the shutters protecting the windows and lock on the door tells him the cabin is secure. Not even the elements can ruin this night.
Inside fairs better. Seungmin raises the lantern in his hand before giving the area a once over. There is a bed tucked in the corner. At the foot rests a chest Hyunjin mentioned. He dropped off some bedding the night before as his way to help the transition. A touching reminder of how much the coven cares for the inner circle.
Hyunjin left a few more gifts in the small space. On the table in the middle of the cabin rests another lantern ready to use, two glasses, and a bottle of wine, no doubt stolen from Minho’s collection. He even left a neat pile of wood next to the fireplace. Seungmin makes a mental note to thank the other the next time he sees him.
For your sake, he wastes no time starting a fire. Bright warm yellow flames envelop the dry wood, stealing his attention for a moment. The twisting sensation in his gut is back. His nerves have wreaked havoc on him all day.
But why?
You both want this. Chan gave permission. He’s made every step of the process be as painless as possible for you. Everything leading up to this moment is running smoothly. Yes, you are the first human he’s turned, but putting a saddle on a horse is a harder task.
Perhaps Seungmin dreads appearing like a fool in front of you. He needs to be confident tonight. You are trusting him with all of your being.
“Thank you.” You say behind him, followed by a hand gently squeezing his shoulder. The soft smile his way is enough for his tense shoulders to relax. “It’s warmer already.”
There’s a calm aura around you when taking in your surroundings. The old chest at the end of the bed creaks when opened. A smile finds its way onto your way when pulling out the soft bedding. Hyunjin spared no expense.
“Let me.” Seungmin says while rising to his feet. He should be the one preparing all this. Tonight reminds him of early in the relationship where he fumbles over his actions and words. You couldn’t care less about how tonight goes. Though to him, it needs to be perfect. His one chance.
“If I knew I was going to be pampered so much I would have hounded Chan to allow this sooner.”
Seungmin huffs in response. “I always spoil you. Or should I take back all the new furs I brought you? I can find buyers in the city.”
“Ah! You don’t need to be so rude. I’m only teasing.” There is a moment of silence before you speak again. “Changbin arrives tomorrow, right?”
“Yes,” He replies, attention focused on straightening the quilt on the bed. “Why do you ask?”
“Then I don’t need clothes then.”
Those words capture his attention. Now standing up straight, bewitched by the devilish smirk on your face. His temptress up to no good, slipping off the thin dress. The material pools at your feet leaving you naked. The dancing shadows in the room from the fire give you a radiant glow. His cock stirs in interest.
There is an itch in Seungmin. Call it a primal urge. No, a hunger. The longer he takes you in he feels the sensation grow. His cute little prey is now completely bare and vulnerable in this state. The urge causes his fangs to ache with the need to pierce the skin. He needs his hands on you, using you how he wants to. Mold you into the submissive lover he enjoys. He may fuck you where you stand, forgo the bed entirely. Just bend you over the small table and fuck you till your hips are covered in bruises.
“No, I know that look.” You say with a mischievous tone. “I haven’t tried this wonderful wine Hyunjin gifted.”
“Down a glass then.”
“Do you want a taste?” You ask while reaching for the bottle. The cork comes out with a minor struggle.
“Not of the wine.”
“Then get undressed while I drink.”
He takes the advice, shedding his clothes off before folding them neatly on the lid of the chest. It takes all his self control to hold back. He endures your teasing, letting the anticipation build. There’s a level of pride you relish in with the way you take your time pouring a small amount into a glass.
It’s darker than a Merlot. Reminds him of blood with how it stains your mouth as you drink it down. Questions flood his mind. What will happen when you both require blood? A stock worker? Will you find a human to keep and share? It wouldn’t be the first time you have brought another into the bedroom. Perhaps you two will take a page out of Minho’s book and hire a live-in.
Seungmin can’t handle the mouthwatering daydreams any longer. He needs you now. With two fingers, he beckons you over. “Enough games. Come here.”
You obey, like the beautiful creature you are. The very second he can place his hands on you results in a light toss onto the bed. You let out an excited giggle before sinking comfortably on your back. He’s on top of you in a blink finally able to let loose.
Seungmin truly wishes to worship your body, starting with soft kisses down your chest and stomach as he settles between your legs. The pair of you have been in this moment hundreds of times, still your body reacts similar to the first time, writhing under him as you mewl from the sensations.
He lets out a small groan, seeing the wetness taunting him, begging to be tasted. Spit pools on his tongue before reaching your folds. The taste of you is addicting. Unable to control his aggressive licking and sucking. He’s tasting the sweetest nectar and needs his fill till he’s drunk on you.
“Seung!” you cry out, feeling two fingers slip inside you with little resistance, curling and searching for the soft gummy spot that gets you really vocal.
Seungmin ignores you, too focused on how easily you accept him. So wet with a handful of touches. Desperation always follows as your hips shift to either meet the thrusts of his fingers or escape the intensity. He’ll never grow tired of this and after tonight he won’t have to hold back his restraint. His cock throbs at the idea of a long nights with you. No pesky human stamina to keep him from teasing you till sunrise.
You pull on Seungmin’s hair to pull him away from your wet folds. The bottom half of his face is coating in a mix of you and his own saliva. He must look delirious with the amount of desire he has. His brows furrowed in confusion as to why you stopped him.
There’s a flash of uncertainty on your face for a second as you collect yourself. “Not tonight. I need you now before I overthink.”
Seungmin nods, understanding the fear you feel, recalling it himself when Chan drained him for his transition. Words can only be so reassuring. Fear of the unknown will plague you. The faster this ordeal is over with, the better for the both of you.
He crawls up your body and settles between your legs. The heat radiating from your body is warm against him. He’ll almost miss it.
A satisfied sigh leaves you with as his cock sinks inside of you. A gentle, sensual pace follows. There is no rush. This isn’t about Seungmin’s pleasure. No, it’s about you. All he wants is to send you over the edge into bliss, so the inevitable bite hurts less. It always works with feeding. Seungmin preferred feeding off of you than a stock worker. It’ll be an interesting change for the both of you.
The joys of being in the woods allows you to be as loud as you want. Your moans filling the cabin only encourage Seungmin. It’s a swell of pride. He’s making you feel this good.
“Min,” you gasp. Your entire body is taught similar to a bowstring drawn. A telltale sign you are dancing on the edge of an orgasm. “Now.”
Seungmin doesn’t hesitate, sinking his fangs into your neck at the tail end of your words. Warm, fresh blood hits his tongue in a rush. He groans in satisfaction. There’s a change in blood. So close now.
His focus on the taste drives his thrusts faster. The slow and steady changes to need. A need you mirror with the way your body arches. Every inch of your flush skin feels delightful against the ice cold of his. You were made for him. Soul and body are a perfect match.
There is no better feeling than the way your walls clench around him, trying to keep him buried deep inside you. Only a handful of thrusts later leaves your pussy dripping more delicious juices onto the bedding as the impending orgasm hits.
Seungmin can feel you grow weaker. The hold you have on him loosens. It’s enough to tell him to pull away. The next part has to happen quickly before you pass out. He needs to get his blood into your system.
He digs his fangs deep into the meat of his palm before pressing the wounds to your mouth. There’s no resistance to the blood when offered.
Good. Very good.
It’s an unpleasant taste, but for the sake of tradition you persist. For him, you persist. Your desire for change is stronger, powering through the best you can.
However, Seungmin didn’t anticipate how hard the next steps would be. He works with care to clean both of you up before the dark part of the transition. It’ll be over in a flash. You won’t feel a thing. Next time you wake, the worst is over. You will be complete.
Tumblr media
When Seungmin wakes, the side of the bed next to him is empty. No, he thinks. Eyes wide with panic as he nearly falls out of bed, trying to get his feet under him. He expected to wake before you did. Usually, the process took longer. You should have been out for another half a day. He didn’t even think to move you. No one wakes this early in transition.
The door to the small cabin is ripped open while he tries to collect himself. He doesn’t know how long you have been up. You are a newly turned newborn, heavy with confusion. Lost and unable to process much at first. Thankfully, the scent of you is faint. Seungmin is confident he can track you.
It’s dark when he steps out into the woods. The sun appears to be tucked away for now. The trees are dense with leaves blocking the view of the skyline. He hopes he has time. The last thing he needs is for you to burn to ash.
Even with his heightened eyesight it doesn’t stop his stumbling as he barrels through the forest. He’s always been the best at tracking. Chan has always relied on his skill for years. Now he begs it doesn’t fail him in his search for you. He’s confident he’s on the right trail. Occasionally, he spots a footprint in the mud that undoubtedly is yours. No one else is out this far.
Seungmin sighs in relief when he finds you. He sees the same white nightgown hunched over, arms wrapped around your knees that are pulled tight to your chest. A dead deer lays at your feet. Seungmin can smell the creature’s blood. It’s been dead for a moment.
Hunger. You had responded to the natural urge, taking it out on the first animal you found. There is no actual harm in feeding on the deer. It’s not sustainable, not when you are transitioning. You need a human’s blood. Thank whatever deity that has stopped you from making it into town.
Seungmin can’t imagine how Chan would react if you had made it home, or worse, if you had fed on the townsfolk. He can’t bear to think of the consequences. Just grateful you stopped here, and he found you. Changbin joining isn’t as far-fetched as he originally thought. He underestimated this challenge.
When he calls for you, he takes a cautious step closer. How far gone are you? Are you still in that haze where only part of your humanity has returned? Or are you a creature trying to regain focus? Seungmin has to be prepared for either. If you bolt now, he doesn’t have the choice but take you down to drag you back to the cabin. The restraints he packed flash through his mind. He doesn’t wish to use them. Being confined will scare you more.
When you look up at him, your pretty eyes are now swollen from crying. The sight hurts Seungmin to see. From your lips, your chin, down the front of the nightgown is blood. It’s soaked down your chest. He’s not surprised. Your fangs are newly developed, awkward to use at first.
If his heart still beat, he would know it sting seeing how broken you look. Seungmin has witnessed plenty of newborns like this. With you, it’s unbearable. The smile he’s fallen in love with seems like a distant memory. It’ll be some time till he sees it again.
“Seung-” Your voice trails off, hoarse as if dying for water on a hot day.
Ah, you recognize him. You’ve pulled through.
Seungmin falls to his knees, pulling you into his embrace. His hold is tight, whispering comforting words to soothe you. A wave of sobs starts. He can barely decipher your garbled words as you speak into his shirt. You must be so disoriented. Confused by all the surroundings. Not to mention the pain from the fangs coming in.
He waits as you calm down. Long past the last of sniffles till your hands release the death grip you have on him. Only then does he take out a handkerchief from his pocket, dipping a corner into the water. “Darling, let’s get you cleaned up a little.”
Immediately, you fight the hold he has on you. You remind him of a fussy toddler in the way you turn your face away to avoid his hand.
“It’s okay. I have you.” Seungmin tightens his grip when you attempt to break away. “Darling please, let me.”
“No!” You twist, writhing out of Seungmin’s hold. You land in a heap on the ground. The confinement appears to be too much. You settle next to him. Seungmin sighs, reminding himself to be patient.
Whatever intrusive thought you had won, leading you to dip into the water a moment later. In a matter of seconds, you sprawl out on your stomach enjoying the small stream wash over you. This branch off the river is shallower than usual. The snowpack melting from the mountains is long gone and not much rain occurred this summer. The water still runs ice cold late at night. To a human, the temperature would freeze.
“Come now. Let’s go back.”
“Home?” You question pushing off the ground to sit up.
“Not yet. We have to stay.” Your expression sours at his words. Seungmin’s entire chest cavity aches. “I am sorry. A couple more days, I swear. Please come.”
You nod yet make no movement to stand. Your arms extend outward. Seungmin doesn’t protest at your request to be carried, hooking an arm under your knees and around your back to lift you out of the water. Your arms are secure around his neck as you rest your head against him. If this means you don’t fight him, he’ll do it. Who cares if his clothes soak up the water?
The walk back is silent minus a few deer traveling around the two of you. The wolf pack Seungmin was monitoring for Chan is further north. Miles away from you two. The silence doesn’t bother him. You are lost in your head again. Seungmin hopes time passes quickly. He needs his wife back. He needs you back.
Closer to the cabin another scent of a vampire hits Seungmin. Changbin is here. He confirms as much when stepping inside the cabin. The older vampire is tending to the fireplace.
Changbin turns to face the other. He gives a once over at the scene before motioning to the table in the middle of the room. “I brought supplies. Figured you would enjoy the company.”
“You’re early.”
“Chan was worried.”
The other vampire doesn’t ask questions about why the cabin was empty and truth be told, Seungmin is grateful. Changbin faces the fireplace to respect privacy as Seungmin strips you of your wet clothes. You don’t fight as he dresses you. You settle on the bed once dressed. Seungmin leaves the restraints on the floor. There is no need. Two vampires are here.
“Here.” Changbin offers him a glass. “You look like you could use it.”
Whiskey. The amber liquor hits Seungmin’s tongue and swallows it down in a gulp. He needed a drink after the scare he had. Now he can allow himself to relax. If you bolt, there are two vampires able to stop you before you even make it through the doorway.
“I’m here. For both of you. Take a minute for yourself.”
Seungmin sinks into a chair with a huff. Changbin sits opposite, his eyes locked on you. “How is she?”
“She’s there, but not completely.”
“She’ll pull through. They always do. Once they feed consistently, they are back to normal.”
Seungmin nods. He knows, he understands. He’s seen transformations plenty of times. Even remembering most of his own. It’s hard to watch. Seungmin doesn’t remember the last time he’s gone this long without your smile or laugh. He knows it’s foolish to feel this way. Still, he worries you will regret your decision. Hate what you have become and want to end your life. Seungmin needs reassurance from you. If you can tell him.
“Let me look at her,” Changbin says while retrieving a jar from his bag. Your curious eyes lock onto the liquid as he crosses the small cabin. He pulls the cork before sitting down next to you. “I need you to drink.”
Surprisingly, you listen. Allowing Changbin to bring the jar to your lips. Seungmin watches in silence while you swallow down a few gulps. You mull over the human blood you consumed once the jar is pulled away.
Human blood is what you need. It’s what will make you feel better. The gears are working in your mind as you process all your emotions. You are understanding.
“You feel better, yeah?” Changbin smiles, voice sweet. He speaks to you with love. It’s genuine, you’re a family member to the coven. He wishes for the best for you. “Keep going, honey.”
You take the jar with eager hands, drinking down more of the viscous liquid. At the minimum, you understand the importance of human blood. Tomorrow, the two will expose you to a fresh source to see how you react. If you are stable, then better your chances of going home. If not, a few more days in solitary won’t kill you.
Seungmin’s mind flashes to Jeongin for a brief second. His creation is a special case. A rare occurrence, manipulated to be unstable. You won’t be like him. No, more like the typical newborn Chan creates.
Changbin scowls when looking over the container of blood you returned. Not even half a jar. Yet you curl under the blankets like a kitten with a full belly of milk. He places the cork back in, leaving the bottle nearby if you choose to take more.
Seungmin mentally prepares for the next words out of the elder’s mouth. “She’s barely fed.”
“She had a deer.”
“It’s crucial to get her on human blood.”
“I know.” Seungmin snaps back. He’s not a fool. Of course it’s important. He never expected you to wake up so soon. The blood he brought still sits in his bag, intending to give it to you tonight. “You came early.”
“If I’m to bring a stock worker, I need to know where she stands.”
“She will be ready.”
Changbin’s voice lowers when he sits back down across from Seungmin. “I’m sorry. We just want the best for both of you.”
Frustration pricks at Seungmin. The inside of his mouth bleeds from where his teeth sunk into a meaty piece. His attitude needs to adjust. Changbin is an elder, higher in command than himself. He should be respectful. Even more so when all he’s doing is trying to help.
The conversation starts back up this time with Seungmin asking about a fellow leader. “How is Minho?”
“Better. The hunters are dead.”
“By his hand?”
Changbin nods. “Finally broke under his interrogation. There was blood on every wall. I came into the room with a jaw on the floor.”
“I would have done the same.”
“For her? We all would.”
Changbin reveals some good news. No impending attack is on the horizon. The church exiled these hunters for not executing enough. Killing one leader would have earned them back into the good graces of the church.
Seungmin wants to laugh. What a pathetic lot of humans. No one will miss them. The world is safer without them. You are safer without them.
Unfortunately, there will always be more hunters, but with the right training and your new vampire abilities will keep you safe. That’s all that matters to him.
Tumblr media
By the next night, your spirits have lifted. You are coherent enough to have full conversations. Pieces of your personality are shining through. Seungmin believes the worst is over. You feed without a struggle. The substantial amount means you are on schedule. The next step is feeding from a stock worker. Should be easy with your temperament. Your hunger will be minimal, and with the help of Changbin, the process is likely to go without hiccups.
Instead, it’s not Changbin who enters the cabin tonight. It’s Minho. Seungmin blurts out his words before the other even clears the doorway. “Why are you here?”
“I needed to get out of town.” Minho doesn’t elaborate. Instead, the elder crosses the room for you. He kneels in front of you, calling for you in a calm voice. You smile in response, recognizing him. “Hello sweetheart, let’s get a look at you.”
Both of his hands cup your face. His thumbs push up against your top lip to expose your teeth. On occasion, fangs struggle to come in. Unable to pierce through the gums. It’s a rare occurrence. An easy fix, but best caught sooner than later.
“Ah!” Minho’s tongue clicks when you pull away. “None of that. Let me see.”
This time Minho succeeds at forcing your mouth open. A frustrated groan leaves you. Annoyed with the intrusion, you writhe to fight the hold. It gets you nowhere, still weaker than the older vampire’s iron grip. More noises of distress leave you as he prods at your fangs with his fingers.
The second Minho releases your face, you cross the room to Seungmin. He lets you crawl into his lap for consolation, securing his arms around you. His smile is hard to hide when you bury your face in the crook of his neck. This feels good to him. How it should be. Seungmin can’t deny how his chest fills with warmth, knowing you still find comfort in him. He will hold you till you protest. Whatever you need, he’ll do it.
“I know,” Minho smiles fondly, coming back over to apologize. Your hiss in response only makes Minho coo at you. He finds you adorable. As he does with most newborns. “I’m sorry. Healthy though.”
Seungmin scolds himself. He should have checked your fangs. Even as prepared as he thought he was, he shouldn’t have missed the basics. He reasons with himself over the deer you fed from. Your fangs clearly came in. Regardless, it’s in the past now. Seungmin can only control what happens now.
“Seungminnie, I’m hungry.”
“Are you?” Minho questions, his voice still sweet, as if speaking to a child. He leans closer, brushing the hair out of your face. “I brought you a human.”
You glance up at Seungmin, unsure of what to say. He explained the entire process many times prior to tonight. You discussed with Changbin last night you felt ready. However, the pacifist in you may act up. Morality is weird with the newly turned. A gray area between understanding the need for blood for survival and knowing the cost will hurt someone. You never even killed bugs when alive. Now you have to bite someone.
“It’s alright.” Seungmin squeezes you reassuringly. “They just want to help you. Faster you can safely feed, the sooner we can leave.”
“Home?”
“Yes, home.” Minho answers, “We all miss you. Don’t you wish to come home?”
“Yes!”
The two older vampires can’t help but chuckle with the eager response you offer. Seungmin wants to go home at this point. As grateful as he is with the cabin being available, it’s not the comfort of home. Lacks the safety of home. The vampire hunter’s attacks still weigh heavily on Seungmin. He should be with the others.
At the very least, he should be there for Minho. He deserves time to grieve. The stubborn vampire won’t allow himself. So Seungmin will return to share the responsibilities. Just in case Minho needs to step away.

Seungmin’s home is quiet once the moon is high in the sky. Staff turned in for the evening, leaving only a handful to move around the house. Less in the lower levels. The two of you prefer the privacy of down here.
For your sake, staff interactions were minimal on arrival. The plan was to not overwhelm you with humans. Seungmin knows you won’t attack anyone, but he would rather not risk their lives. A few more quiet days paired with a stock worker to feed from will have you adapted to the new schedule.
A bath was the first thing you wanted when stepping inside. Seungmin drew the hot water, adding a few drops of your favorite oils with a few fresh rose petals from your garden. He kept the temperature higher than what a human would find comfortable. A subtle way to support your change with a colder body than you are used to. It took weeks for him to adapt.
The quiet time alone allowed him to slip away to catch up on affairs. He stands just shy of his desk, browsing through mail. Not much occurred. A few agricultural concerns for him to check out later in the week. Chan left a letter requesting an update on the overpopulated deer taking a liking to the east side. He has growing concerns about the wolves moving closer for easy pickings.
To save everyone time, Seungmin will send a group of humans to hunt. Thin the herd before the first frost. The meat could last through winter and plenty of pelts for the humans to use. Every part of the animal will have a purpose. He takes pride in his community, not being wasteful. With that thought in mind, Seungmin quickly pens a letter in response to the details.
Now he can focus on you.
You have no expectations. Your business partner will run the shop till you are ready to return, if you decide to. The profits are a passive income, anyway. He smiles to himself while plotting selfish ways to encourage you to stay with him.
Speak of the devil.
What a cute little hunter you’ve become.
Seungmin can sense you are nearby, tiptoeing closer to sneak up on him. You would be quiet as a church mouse to any human. Not to him. Where he stands, he’s certain you’re behind him on his right. He can’t hide his smile. “What are you doing?”
“How can you hear me?” You huff in annoyance. When he glances over his shoulder, there’s a cute pout on your face he wishes to kiss. “I was so careful with the floorboards.”
“You’re not as quiet as you think you are.”
He discards the quill with little care, too invested in giving you all his attention. Everything outside the two of you can wait a little longer. He turns on his heel, taking in the view of you in the dimly lit office.
What a beauty you are.
The last few days were a storm. Now there is peace. Relief reminds Seungmin of the warmth of a sunrise when he was human. Any dread falls away. Here you are in all your glory. A creature of the night. The same as him, able to live a long life with him. A dream came true after all this time. His undead heart could almost beat back to life with the joy he feels. The wait was brutal, though the reward was gratifying.
Seungmin offers open arms. A  giggle leaves you when you rush him. He catches you with ease, securing his arms around you. Happiness looks the best on you. Far better than the range of emotions over the last few days.
“I love you.”
“I know.” He replies, smug.
“Hey!” You playfully swat his chest. “Say it back?”
“Why? If you hear it once, then you have already heard me say it.”
Seungmin ignores the eye roll he receives. Normally, he would spit out more words to tease you. Instead, he kisses the sour look on your face. Soft, with no further intention other than to distract you.
“I’ll show you how much I love you.”
Gentle as he can, Seungmin guides the both of you to the floor. Underneath you lies a rug gifted for your wedding. Hand woven and plush to cushion you as he untangles himself from your limbs. A flicker of shame hits briefly. At least the two of you appreciate and find a purpose for the rug. When his fingers find the front of your shirt, he tucks away the thought.
The material is thin under his fingertips, shreds with ease as he tears the clothing away from your body. His lips connect with your neck, trailing over the exposed skin. Gone is the warmth. Still, the skin is smooth, and just as soft as he remembers. Gone are the times of the ability to leave flourishing marks along your collarbone. No longer is running blood in your veins, no blood vessels able to react to the harsh sucks. Seungmin tries anyway, mostly for the reaction.
He should take you back to the bedroom. Fuck you properly on the soft bed like you deserve. Not here in his office. He’s unable to pull away from your body, bewitched by the view.
A smirk forms when hearing all your little gasps. His hands tease your breasts. More soft skin under his calloused hands. You mewl at the kneading, nipples stiffening under his teasing. You get to experience his touch for the first time again. This time with the heightened senses.
Sharp nails dig into the skin of his arms, causing him to groan. You don’t even know your own strength yet. One of the few forces in this world could cause damage to his skin. It feels heavenly.
Seungmin’s hands run down your stomach to your spread thighs. There are a couple of faint scars under his fingertips. Evidence of previous bites from him, never fully disappearing even with the healing salve. His thumb traces over the scar tissue. Mine, he thinks. You are his. His wife, partner, and creation.
His eager hands move inward. More waves of desire hit hard with the way your pussy taunts him with glistening folds. All it took was a handful of touches to have you clinging to the rug. He hasn’t even started the fun part.
One finger slips in with ease to test the waters, shallowly working in and out. Then he progresses to two at a faster pace to give the familiar stretch to open you up for his cock.
“Please,” you beg. “Don’t tease me tonight.”
Seungmin doesn’t cave. Captivated by the way your hips shift in any attempt to rub clit against his palm. How long could he go on teasing you like this? Would you eventually cave? Push him off and take what you want? Will you cry from frustration instead, pleading with the sweetest promises?
The wet mess of fluids only spurs him on. Two fingers become four. His cock painfully aches in his pants. It takes every ounce of self control to hold back. No, not yet. He can push a little more.
“I will have you screaming by sunrise.” He swears.
“Promise?”
“Have I not shown you I keep my word?” He asks with a fake offense in his voice. “Let me enjoy you. I no longer have to hold back anymore thanks to a fragile body of yours.”
“Please, I need to…” Your words trail off as your teeth sink into your bottom lip.
His fingers sped up their teasing while his thumb from his other hand flicks over the sensitive clit. Your thighs tremble, switching between attempting to lay flat or tighten to keep his hands in place worried he’ll stop.
Mercifully, he doesn’t. Your orgasm peaks with a string of gratitude leaving your lips. He’s only able to decipher a handful of the words, too entranced by how far your back has arched off the floor.
There isn’t a thought behind your glossy eyes when you come down. Just more whimpers when he pulls his hands away. There are tears along your lash line. Yes, now you’re desperate enough. He loves this, loves you, and craves more of it.
Seungmin hastily frees his cock from his pants before shuffling closer. The tip of his cock runs along your slit, coating the tip in your wetness. “Should I fuck you now, darling?”
“Take it.” You pant, desperate for air even when you have no need. “I’m yours. All yours.”
Those are the only words he needs to hear tonight. Excitement pools in Seungmin’s gut, spreading through his limbs like lightning. He will have you every which way on every surface in this house till you understand how much adoration Seungmin has for you. Till you feel the love he has carried inside him for the years together.

The heavy emergency door feels like a dead leaf when you hastily pull on the handle. The rumble of barging into the stairwell quickly recedes and turns into pornographically wet sounds and heavy breathing.
“Off,” you hiss through your clenched teeth, almost ripping the buttons on his useless cardigan that barely covers anything.
