In New Vegas they're a more minor faction but unless you have one specific companion with you your first encounter with them is them putting a slave bomb collar on you and telling you to get rid of an ncr ranger that's set up base here in search of a terrorist, a ranger who does not even know the brotherhood is hiding underground in that area.

If you have the companion you can skip the slave bomb collar due to her vouching for you (Veronica i love you) however her entire quest line is about her losing faith in the brotherhood for being cowards stuck in the past who never do anything to actually help anyone (like seriously you can show him a literal death solar laser and they still won't budge) and ends with her essentially being exiled for trying to prove that they need to adapt to survive and that they will all die if they keep up like this. Also a group of paladins will try to kill you and her if you try to insist that she can stay unless you can pass a pretty high 95 speech skill check

Then when she is exiled, she decides to try and join up with the most genuinely overall morally good faction, the Followers of the Apocalypse, who are scholarly medics who try to treat and teach literally everyone no matter who they are and believe in freedom of information. You know what happens then?

Well you see the Brotherhood actually stalks her to the outpost, and slaughtered EVERYONE under the excuse that she was sharing "forbidden knowledge" leaving the entire outpost razed. When basically all she had done was ask to join and be told "well I need to ask a few people first come back tomorrow and I'll let you know". A massacre that Veronica completely blames herself over "for leading them there"
