Hi. So, I'm alive. Just been in a but of a scheduling hell, preoccupied, and otherwise lazy or distracted. So this blog came second. However I am fully back and will start posting regularly again. However I do have to say some things:
-It will probably be awhile before Project M.A.N.N. Part 4 comes out.
- In the meantime, I'll probably posting some more work involving the universe that Project M.AN.N. is set in.
- Also, how would you guys feel about me posting stuff outside of scifi? What if I posted more of my fantasy stuff here? Or if I made a separate blog for that would you guys go follow that?

War Council
Mala carried her helmet under her arm as she walked through the camp, her medals of rank clinking against her chest as she did so. She found them awkward and typically never wore them unless she was forced to attend a dull military ceremony. She believed that she didn’t need medals to distinguish her, her actions as a captain could do that. As the clinking continued against her chest, Mala had arrived at her destination. It was the largest tent in the camp, it needed to be if was going to hold everyone in this meeting.
She pushed through the entrance and found herself faced with the unpleasantness of an Imperial war council. The air in the tent was thick and far too warm for the armor she was wearing. Every Colonel, Major, and Captain on the planet was here. They sat in several rings on the ground, murmuring amongst themselves. Mala stood, admittedly awkwardly, in the entrance before she caught sight of a certain Major’s familiar face.
“Sheila!” Mala called as she made her way towards the Major. She sat herself in the dirt next to Sheila, placing her helmet in her lap. The Major waited for Mala to get settled before she spoke.
“Captain Parekh, we are in a war council, you will refer to me as Major Martin.”
“Yeah I know, but the thing hasn’t even started yet. Can’t you just relax a little?”
Sheila did not respond. There was a long silence between the two. Mala sat waiting for the meeting to start. Time continued to pass, the ground became more uncomfortable and the air became thicker.  Mala fervently readjusted herself and clawed at the neck of the armor.
“God I hate these things.” she finally broke the silence, “Can’t they at least give us chairs to sit in? Why do we have to sit on the hard ass ground?”
“The practices of the Imperial War Council go back thousands of years,” Sheila responded, “all the way back to the Shingani Rebellion.”
“Yeah I know that,” Mala said readjusting to a more comfortable position, “I just don’t see why we still do them.”
“Tradition.” Sheila replied shortly.
“Well I think some traditions need to be changed.”
The murmurs that pervaded the air of the tent were abruptly silenced as the entrance to the tent opened once more. Through it stepped General Abalos. A balding man in his later years, his face was stern and scarred. The armor that adorned his body was grandiose and plated. Everyone else inside the tent stood to attention. He surveyed the tent as he made his way to the middle of the circles.
“Be seated.” he spoke in his low, gravely voice. In what was practically unison, General Abalos and the masses within the tent sat down.
“The war council has now begun.” the General spoke again,”Now the Balinz are known for their masterful defense tactics. With this, and the fact that we are on their home planet, we are at a disadvantage. However, we are mightier and more well equipped. This will be a hard battle, but rest assured, we will emerge victorious. Now, we must strike at the enemy before they have time to build their defenses. We will siege their major cities and take them before they're ready for us.”
“But sir,” another captain across the tent spoke,” if I may?” “Speak, Captain Ellis.”
“We are not ready, we still have ships that are not even in orbit. These ships carry vital supplies and soldiers. Without these supplies we will be greatly under equipped for the difficulties and length of a seige of a siege and without the soldiers we can expect to be far outnumbered. Even if we do win, it won’t be by much, the casualties will be immeasurable.”
“We have no choice Captain, we must strike now or we have no hope of conquering the Belinz.”
“Actually, sir,” Sheila had spoken up,”Our earlier reconnaissance missions have revealed that the Balinz are keeping their supplies in what they believe to be concealed locations. Luckily, we have managed to find many of them.”
“What are you suggesting Major Martin?”
“The enemy is expecting us to strike their cities, so they have left their supply locations considerably less defended. If we strike these locations instead, we can cut off the enemy’s supplies, while using them for our own. That way, we will still be able to siege relatively soon and have enough supplies to do so, or at least until the rest of ours and our soldiers arrive, all while crippling the enemy, starving them out.”
“An excellent idea Major Martin. Where are these supply locations?”
“They are dotted in discrete locations across the planet. I have the coordinates here sir.” Sheila pulled out a small hard-light screen with various numbers on it and handed it to the general.”The nearest one is approximately 20 clicks West.
General Abalos stood up and began to address individuals in the crowd.”Captain Alder, send out scouts to ensure what Major Martin has said is true. Colonel Haus, gather your troops and march to the nearest outpost. Everyone else, prepare for war.”
“Yes sir!” rang the choir of commanding officers as they stood up and left the tent.
As Mala broke through the lip of the tent, she breathed a sigh of relief. The cool air against her face and in her lungs felt incredible.
“Finally we’re out of there.” she said as she turned to Sheila. Sheila did not respond, she wasn’t listening. Her face was stern and focused on something else.
“So,” Mala piped up again,”That was pretty impressive. Changing the war plans like that. You just saved a lot of lives.” Sheila was still silent.
“You know, I’m amazed the general actually listened to you. He’s usually so hard headed. I mean, to be fair, why wouldn’t he, you’re brilliant.” Still no response from Sheila.
“I mean, you and I have only been enlisted for six years and you’ve already achieved the rank of Major. That's incredible!”
“No it’s not.” Sheila finally spoke,”It’s possible for anyone to attain. You’re just reckless.”
“I’m sorry?” Mala felt as though she’d been sucker punched.
“I achieved the rank of Major through hard work and adherence to orders and rules.” Sheila had turned to face Mala now, her imposing figure silhouetted against the sun,”Make no mistake, you achieved the rank of Captain due to your acts of bravery and strength. But these actions were shortsighted and reckless. With behavior such as this you will never climb the ranks.”
“I don’t care and I took those actions to save people.”
“But in the process you endangered many more!”
“But no one ever died did they?!” Mala had screamed and attracted the attention of some of the nearby soldiers. She took a deep breath and spoke again, this time in a calmer tone,”Every time I try to save lives, I’ll admit, I endanger others. But no one has ever died and I will ensure that no one ever does. I wouldn’t be able to live with myself I allow someone who didn’t deserve it to die.”
“Wake up Mala.” Sheila sighed. “Look where you are. You’re in a war for God’s sake. People die all the time, the sooner realize that the further you’ll go. You can’t save everyone.” Mala stood tense. Her hands were balled into fists and her teeth were grit. Sheila turned and began to walk away,”You heard the General, gather your troops and prepare for war.”
As she walked away, Mala stood still. Sheila’s words echoed in her head, ‘You can’t save everyone.’
“Not if I can help it.” she finally said to herself. She walked back to her tent. Her medals clinking against her chest. The dull, repetitive sound was infuriating. Mala ripped them off her chest and clutched them in her fist. Tears welling in her eyes, anger rising in her body, she stomped off to prepare for war.

Letters from a Nyadi Soldier during the War on Y’mz-4
Location of Sending: Y’mz-4, Muath System
Date of Sending: 04.16.12.2948
My Dearest Ymdala,
Though it has only been a few cycles since I left, I already miss your soft and warm embrace. I hope to see you soon. Many have already pledged their assistance to resolve the crisis on Y’mz-4. The Suan, the Kortol, the Ravaad, us Nyadi of course, and I even heard that the humans are joining the fight. With an allegiance of this size, the Viz’tani won’t stand a chance. Many of the other soldiers are expecting the war to be over before the end of the rotation. I hope so, as then I would be able to make it home in time for the Kistini Festival. Your orbiters re so beautiful under the floating lights. I long to see you soon.
Your Beloved,
Kthnyalam

My Sweet Ymdala,
There has been a setback in the war effort. We spent the first several cycles at base camp mustering supplies and waiting for our allies to arrive. All who had pledged their allegiance arrived, except for the Humans. We were forced to carry on without them. We launched our first attack on a nearby Viz’tani outpost. They had greater numbers than we anticipated and we were rebuffed and forced into retreat. This does not bode well for us. We fear the Viz’tani have uncovered our location. I hope this is not so. I long to see you again.
Your Beloved,
Kthnyalam

My Everything Ymdala,
I apologize for not writing to you for so long, but things have been bleak as of late. Even as I write this message my appendages tremble. How I wish you were here, you always knew the perfect way to calm me down. We were right to be suspicious. The Viz’tani did know our location and they ambushed us in the night. We were unprepared and outnumbered. We lost over half of our forces before we managed to retreat. We’ve managed to shake the Viz’tni off our trail and established a camp in a new location, but how long will it last? We’re afraid, all of us. These may be our last moments alive and, if that is the case, I want you to know that I love you. I love you more than anything in this vast, endless universe. Goodbye.
Your Beloved,
Kthnyalam

My beautiful Ymdala,
Our luck is beginning to turn. In our darkest hour, when all hope was lost, a miracle happened. We heard it at sunrise. A loud roaring in the sky. We looked upwards and we saw them, large blue and white ships. The humans had arrived. A wave of hope swept through the camp as their seemingly endless ranks of white-armored soldiers filed out of their ships. Their force alone was larger than all other present races’ combined. Their soldiers were not all they brought though. They brought mountains of supplies and equipment, enough for all of us. This our second wind, my dear. I may yet return to you. I’m not supposed to tell you this but I cannot help myself. We are planning a full-scale counterattack on our old camp. The Nyadi, Suan, and Ravaad forces are to engage from the North, while the Humans and Kortol flank from the East and West respectively. I have confidence in us, my love. Expect my next letter upon our victory.
Your Beloved,

My Wonderful Ymalda,
I must once again apologize for not writing for so long. I want you to know not to fret my dear, for I have not fallen in battle. Far from it, I’m on my way home. The war is over, and it was all because of the Humans. We moved forward with our plan to counterattack. The Suan, Nyadi, and Ravaad attacked from the North. We engaged the Viz’tani in brutal combat. They were so preoccupied with us that they did not notice the Kortol attacking from the West. However, it was not enough. The Viz’tani still held their lines on both fronts. That is when the Humans joined the fray. They came from over the hills to the East, screaming their bloodcurdling screams, and charged into the side Viz’tani lines. It was a bloodbath. They were no match for the Humans. They carved through the Viz’tani lines and forced them into retreat. They could not escape them that easily. The Humans ran down the remains of the enemy and slaughtered them. The Humans spearheaded many of our other attacks, quickly removing all Viz’tani off the face of the planet. The war was over before we knew it. And now, I’m coming home my love, and it looks like I will be home in time for the Kistini Festival. How I long for your embrace.
Your Beloved,
Kthngalam

The Song of Sons & Daughters
Do you hear their cries brother? Your ancestors, their voices ring out among the heavens. Just like they did long ago. Back when they came. When the Shingani came to Earth. When we were divided and waged war on ourselves. We were vulnerable, and they saw that.
They touched down and they dominated us. Long did we suffer under them. Long did we endure the pain and anguish of their enslavement. They took our languages, our cultures, our very identities. But they were fools to think that they could keep them.
With each passing day, our anger grew and it dwelled inside us until one day it became too much to bear. Together, our ancestors rose against them. The Shingani underestimated our resolve. The death of one human only fueled another’s rage. Our numbers and strength overwhelmed them. Our ancestors dethroned the Shingani, and those that managed to survive the revolution ran like cowards back to their planet.
We did not rest. While this seemed like a defeat to the Shingani, to our ancestors it was only the beginning. We made their ships and weapons our own and traveled to their far-flung planet. It was time for the Shingani to know the pain that we felt. A bloody retribution for the oppressed, the Shingani were given no mercy.
Extinction. A fate worthy of their actions. Our ancestors killed every last one of them. All while they sang a glorious song of defiance. And now, they sing once more and it is your chance to join the choir. Will you?

Hey guys, I just want to apologize for the lack of actual written content recently. It's just that my life has been incredibly hectic lately and I haven't really had any time to sit down and write. That, and I've also hit some writer's block as of late. So I wanna come to you guys and ask you if you have any suggestions for what the next chapter of Project M.A.N.N. should be about, as well as criticisms and feedback of what is already posted. And finally, I am opening up a Q&A about the universe and characters of Project M.A.N.N. Any ideas, feedback, and/or questions are greatly appreciated and I thank you for your patience in this crazy time.

Routine (Project M.A.N.N. - Episode 3)
Today begins my second rotation onboard the S.S. Ardent. The humans had a pleasantly systematic role assignment. Each person had an assigned function on the ship that they were expected to fill to the best of their ability. I was placed on something the humans called the “Vanguard Squad”.  I had no idea what my purpose was, all the humans would tell me was that I wouldn’t have to do anything until we encountered a planet.
The humans functioned spectacularly onboard the ship before their movements became slower and kept say that they needed to “go to bed”. Before long, the humans had begun moving towards large rooms called bunks, and laid down in large slabs of a mysterious fabric they called beds. Mala had directed me to mine and said relayed to me the purpose of them was to “sleep”. I did not understand. She then just told me to lay down and be quiet until someone else woke up.
I sat there in silence for what felt like cycles. Soon, one after another, the humans began to wake up. They began to all gather spare garments and headed out of the bunks. I caught Nishad leaving with Adrian and decided to investigate such a strange activity.
“Nishad,” both he and Adrian had turned to face me,”What are all these humans?”
Nishad rubbed his eyes and spoke in a barely intelligible voice,”What?”
“Why are all these humans grabbing spare garments and leaving?”
“Wha-oh. They’re going to take a shower.”
“A what?”
“You never had a shower?” Adrian had interjected,”Do they not have them on your planet?”
“No, I don’t believe so.”
“Well this should be a fun experience for you then.” Adrian had grabbed me by one of my arms.”I personally think you’ll enjoy it.”
He dragged me down the hall towards a large room. The flooring was different from the rest of the ship. Along the walls of the room were several large stalls, there were long benches that went along most of the room, and several large empty basins.
I had never seen a room of such a strange composition, I had made it my mission to discern the purpose of everything in this room. I was so preoccupied with my hypothesis of the function of the room that I could not conceive what Adrian and Nishad were doing. They were disposing of their garments. Humans truly had no shame.
“W-what are you doing!?”
Adrian gave me a puzzled look, “We’re stripping.”
“You can’t take a shower with clothes on.” Nishad piped in.
“O-oh. Very well.” I began to remove my garments of my body in a shameful display of nudity.
Once they were nude, Adrian and Nishad pulled back the thin sheets of plastic in front of the stall and stepped inside. Adrian turned around and moved to pull his plastic sheet back when he locked orbital sensors with me.
“Don’t just stand there and stare! Take a shower!”
I ran into the closest stall and pulled the plastic sheet back. At the top of the stall was a pipe aimed downwards, and in the floor was a drain. A few feet off of the ground was a knob. With few other options, I turned the knob all the way to the end. The most brutal torture followed.
Droplets of boiling dihydrogen monoxide pelted my body. I let out a horrible shriek and ran out of the stall as fast as I could. Dihydrogen Monoxide had entered my orbital receptors, I couldn’t see. I just ran in a straight line out of the stall. My legs had collided with something and my body tumbled over itself.
I wiped my orbital receptors and was able to see. I was lying on the floor I had fallen over one of the bench. I staggered to my feet and noticed that Mala was sitting on the bench. She was wearing nothing except a piece of white fabric around her waist and had one of the large basins, which was now filled with dihydrogen monoxide, at her feet.
“Hey there,” she looked up at me, the corners of mouth pointed upwards,”Something wrong with the shower or are you just happy to see me?”
She glanced downward at my lower body. In my pain, I had forgotten about my exposed body. I scrambled to cover my nudity.
“Relax,” Mala said,”It ain’t nothing I ain’t seen before. Well, kinds.”
“Why do you do this?”
“What?’
“Why do you allow yourselves to be coated in burning hot dihydrogen monoxide?”
“Because, it cleans off your body, allows all the dirt and grime to fade away and roll off your skin.”
“So you’re telling me that you do such things to clean yourselves?”
“Yeah. Don’t you have something like that back home?”
“Yes, we have methods of cleaning ourselves. But none of them burn your body.”
Mala made a loud, repetitive noise. Judging her facial expression it meant something good.”You just turned the hot water too high. You can adjust the knob until you find a temperature you like.”
“Ah. Thank you Mala.”
“No problem.”
I made my way back to the stall that I had fear and stepped inside once again. The dihydrogen monoxide still burned, but I managed to grab the knob and turn it down. To my surprise it became pleasant. I was enamored by the sensation, I now understood why humans did such an activity, it was a feeling of pure bliss.
I must have been in there for an unusual amount of time, because I had heard Adrian yell,
“Hey, are you okay in there? Did you slip or something?” I could barely hear him over the sound of the dihydrogen monoxide hitting the floor. I supposed it must have been time to leave euphoria, I did not know the consequences prolonged exposure would have. I begrudgingly stepped out of the stall an was greeted with the sight of Nishad and Adrian.
The two where now in a different set of garments than the ones they were wearing earlier. Nishad was just now putting one over his abdomen and Adrian was vigorously rubbing a white fabric over his cranium.
“Oh thank goodness,” Nishad chirped,”We thought you might have had an accident.”
“Here,” Adrian tossed the white fabric at me,”You need dry off.”
“Why?”
“‘Cuz if you don’t, you’ll freeze.”
“Also wearing clothes while you’re wet is really uncomfortable.” Nishad said, the corners of his mouth pointing upwards.
The duo left the room, leaving me alone wipe my damp body and put my garments back on. I walked out of the room and made my way to the pilot’s bay. I was halfway there when I heard a human’s trademark loud voice.
“Seriously! That was mine!” It came from the room to my left. I poked my cranium in to investigate.
It was a room full of small, round tables. At one was Nishad a look of distress across his face, next to him was Adrian, his face a stark contrast to Nishad’s. His feet rested up on the table, next to an empty plastic container. Standing next to the table was a female human. If I remembered correctly, her  name was Carmen. Her burning gaze fell onto an unaffected Adrian.
“I was saving that asshole!”
Adrian let out a hoarse sound, similar to the one Mala gave earlier, but this one felt more malicious,”I didn’t see your name on it princess.”
“There is a sticky note with my name on it on the container!”
Adrian glanced down, there was a small piece of small yellow paper on the lid of the container. He quickly grabbed it and compressed it in his hand.
“I don’t see one.”
Carmen looked ready to kill,”You are so infuriating! Now what am I going to eat for breakfast!?”
“There’s plenty of other food in the cabinets.” Adrian deflected her anger like she had none.
“No! I was saving that! That was the last piece of food I had from home!”
“Oh yeah. Props to your mom, she’s a great cook.”
Something snapped in Carmen, she looked like she was prepared to rip Adrian’s throat out. Despite this, she showed incredible restraint. She stormed off, a loud sound repressed in her throat.
Nishad readjusted in his seat,”You’re the worst.”
“Eh, she’ll get over it.”
My curiosity had overwhelmed me, I stepped in.”What happened?” “The bottomless pit over here,” Nishad gestured to Adrian,”Just ate Carmen’s breakfast.”
“Breakfast?”
“Yeah, the most important meal of the day.” he shot a glance at Adrian.
“You mean, you eat more than once a day?”
“Yeah, three meals a day keeps you healthy strong.”
“Sometimes more if you have an appetite like mine.” Adrian said as he placed his hands on his lower abdomen.
“That doesn’t give you permission to eat other people’s food.”
“I let them eat mine.”
“You never have any left! You always eat it too fast!”
“But if I did, they would be free to eat it.”
I didn’t pay attention to the rest of the conversation, I was too lost in thought. Human’s need three meals a day? How much nutrition do they need to function. There have always been rumors that humans would eat worlds, I just didn’t they were to be taken literally. I came out of my reverie just in time to hear Adrian say,
“Look, it’s too early in the morning to have this conversation with you.” He stood up and moved towards the counter. He grabbed a large pot of a strange black liquid and poured it into a smaller cup. Steam rose out and filled the air, what was with humans and hot things?
“What is that?”
“Hm,” Adrian turned to face me,”Uh, it’s coffee.”
“What is this coffee?”
“Ground up bean from Earth.” Nishad interjected
“But it is a liquid.”
“Yeah, we do that.”
Frustrating humans.“Why do you consume this. What nutritional value is in it?” “Eh not much,” Adrian said as he began to pour a large quantity of a white liquid and copious amounts of a white powder into his cup,”To be honest, we mainly drink it for the caffeine.”
“What!?”
“Yeah, it’s not the best solution to a lack of energy, but it works.”
“You ingest caffeine!? Don’t you know that it’s a highly toxic chemical!?”
“Well yea, it’s not the best thing for your body but-”
“Actually,” Nishad interjected once more,“It is poisonous to many other species on Earth.”
“Then why do you ingest it!?”
“Caffeine gives us a small energy boost.”
“So a deadly chemical makes you stronger?”
“Yeah, humans evolved and adapted so we could ingest it.”
“So let me get this straight,” this was a lot to process,“Humans evolved so that they could ingest a toxic chemical?”
“Well, kinda. Most likely, we did it so we could have a much wider diet.”
“W-what can you eat?” I was afraid of hearing the answer.
Adrian made a noise,“It’d be easy to tell you what we can’t eat.” he put the cup to his lips, the coffee was now a light brown.
“So,” I clasped my hands together,“humans require ludicrous amounts of nutritional energy and can eat almost anything they want?”
“Yep.” Nishad and Adrian said in unison.
They really were world-eaters.
“Crew!” everyone in the room jumped, Adrian dropped the cup in his hand. Mala was standing in the doorway and was now fully clothed in a militaristic uniform,“What are you doing standing around? You were supposed to be at your stations ten minutes ago! Take your places now before I jettison you into space!
Adrian and Nishad stood up straight, “Yes ma’am!” they took off immediately down the hallway with me following suite.
