Was war always home for Ramiel?
Regarding this post, I am assuming ||| @icybreaths
Yes, but even more so in recent years, before the book starts proper.
The way the angels work in my story is that they come from one of five four archangel lineages: Lucifer, the Archangel of Power, Samael, the Archangel of Death, Raphael, the Archangel of Health, Hamaliel, the Archangel of Harvest, and Michael, the Archangel of War.
Ramiel is an angel from Michael's lineage, which makes her gravitate to war adjacent matters. E.g., she is a monster and a demon hunter, taking on the enemies of both man and heaven face to face on the frontlines of the War between Good and Evil.
Eventually, she gets a promotion, becoming the Honorary Archangel of War (as she's still not typically an Archangel, but now she's the next best thing). This occurs when the Archangel, or previous Honorary Archangel, is killed. So far, War is the only category that has lost its Archangel, besides Power.
After Ramiel becomes Honorary Archangel of War, she gets a lot more at home with war as she is now a personification of War itself.
Yet like Ares and Athena, both Greek Gods of War, the angels can represent their lineages' defining quality in different ways. Ares is seen as the bloody and horrific side of war, basically all of the bad attributes, whereas Athena is thought to be the smart, tactical side, everything good in war. And this is something I'd like to play with if I end up including the character of the Red Rider, who later takes on the name of Tyr, after the Norse God of War and Justice.
Unlike Ramiel, Tyr is not at home in war. Tyr exists only because Ramiel did something vile in creating them as a last-ditch effort to retain her War statue after breaking the War Sword. As the Red Rider, Tyr was merely an extension of Ramiel, a puppet that could wield the broken War Sword, as the missing length of the blade was replaced by raging flame in Tyr's grasp. But eventually Tyr 'woke up' and was disgusted with what they were created for and the mantle of War they had unwillingly usurped from Ramiel.
Nevertheless, Tyr is a personification of War. A rebellious War that is fought not for glory or greed, but for the rights of those who have been denied. Their fight is not offensive but defensive, and the fire of Tyr's resolve is fuelled by all those who were deemed unfit to exist within the Angels' planned utopia upon Earth. Tyr represents a war for true justice, which clashes with Ramiel's version of War.
Thanks for the ask @icybreaths, Sorry it took a turn into me talking about Tyr.

❣ - Are they secretive about their romantic relationships or do they not stop talking about it? (Emery)
Let's talk about romances ||| @icybreaths
❣ - Are they secretive about their romantic relationships or do they not stop talking about it?
Hmm... well, Emery isn't typically secretive about her relationships, but they are not romantic, only sexual really. Emery's previous romantic relationships have left her very bruised and broken, (Heck, even Heath's romantic relationship with Ramiel managed to really screw Emery up too) so she has sworn off romance in general.
She doesn't really care who knows about her relationships or promiscuous affairs. In fact the whole town of Luvartt not so secretly refer to Emery as the local slut, but she wears the label with a sense of pride. There is no point in denying the truth; at this point, it is a stain on her name that will never be washed off, so she figures she might as well have fun with it all.
I wouldn't say that Emery herself can't stop talking, but the townsfolk of Luvartt certainly can't.
Unfortunately, this also made Heath's return to Luvartt very awkward in the first few months as rumors quickly spread that he was Emery's newest "in-home boy toy." But Heath insisted that she was his cousin (The two's cover story in public), causing the story to morph into "Emery is fucking her cousin." As amused as she was at the product of the town's unhinged rumormill, in Emery's defense, she shut down any conversation about her and Heath having anything beyond a platonic and familial bond.
Thanks for the ask @icybreaths
