One of the biggest problems faced by our country, the Philippines, is drug addiction. Several rehabilitation centers accredited by the Department of Health such as Marikina Rehabilitation Center, Roads and Bridges to Recovery (NGO) and Bridges of Hope Drug and Alcoholic Rehabilitation Foundation (NGO) take part in diminishing the continuous rise of drug addiction in the country. However, the growth of drug addiction in the country seemed to rapidly increase from 20,000 on 1972 to 6.7 million drug abusers on 2004 according to statistics. Drug addiction is associated with great violence to the drug abuser especially to the people around them specifically the children, women and people in the community. Evidently, drug addiction significantly suffered the Philippines economy because drug users became less productive in their jobs. In addition, huge proportion of criminal acts immediately increased due to the desire of individuals to satisfy their addiction. Apart from the threatening effects of drug addiction to women, children and people in community, it also destroys drug abusers’ self-respect. In July 2016, President Rodrigo Duterte implemented laws to counteract the rapid growth of drug addiction in the country. Moreover, drug addiction exists and still growing in number.
