HOW TO SURVIVE A HEART ATTACK WHEN ALONE Let’s say it’s 6.15pm and you’re going home (alone of course), after an unusually hard day on the job. You’re really tired, upset and frustrated. Suddenly you start experiencing severe pain in your chest that starts to drag out into your arm and up into your jaw. You are only about five miles from the hospital nearest your home. Unfortunately you don’t know if you’ll be able to make it that far. You have been trained in CPR, but the guy that taught the course did not tell you how to perform it on yourself..!! NOW HOW TO SURVIVE A HEART ATTACK WHEN ALONE… Since many people are alone when they suffer a heart attack, without help, the person whose heart is beating improperly and who begins to feel faint, has only about 10 seconds left before losing consciousness. However, these victims can help themselves by coughing repeatedly and very vigorously. A deep breath should be taken before each cough, and the cough must be deep and prolonged, as when producing sputum from deep inside the chest. A breath and a cough must be repeated about every two seconds without let-up until help arrives, or until the heart is felt to be beating normally again. Deep breaths get oxygen into the lungs and coughing movements squeeze the heart and keep the blood circulating. The squeezing pressure on the heart also helps it regain normal rhythm. In this way, heart attack victims can perhaps buy precious time to get themselves to a phone and dial 911. Rather than sharing another joke please contribute by broadcasting this which can save a person’s life! Be prepared and become part of the solution. Get your free next-of-kin notification card today. Coldplay’s “The Scientist” except it’s 2023 and it’s playing on the crappy radio in your lab while you nurse a mug of coffee and try to forget about the looming apocalypse, and there are experiments to do but you just need a few minutes to breath and listen to the steady sound of your labmate writing equations on his chalkboards, and you’re a little bit in love with him and a little bit in love with monsters at the end of the world.

“Sixsmith, I climb the steps of the Scott Monument every morning. And all becomes clear. Wish I could make you see this brightness. Don’t worry, all is well. All is so perfectly, damnably well. I understand now, that boundaries between noise and sound are conventions. All boundaries are conventions, waiting to be transcended. One may transcend any convention, if only one can first conceive of doing so. Moments like this, I can feel your heart beating as clearly as I feel my own, and I know that separation is an illusion. My life extends far beyond the limitations of me.”

BOOK STARTERS VOL.4 CLOUD ATLAS DAVID MITCHELL
❛ A wise man does not step betwixt the beast and his meat. ❜
❛ So, kill me. Tell the others I attacked you so you killed me. ❜
❛ Should never have come here. ❜
❛ Hard to guess my tastes. ❜
❛ Can’t it wait until the morning? ❜
❛ You’ll find temper tantrums won’t help you here. ❜
❛ It must have taken courage to return. ❜
❛ It all sounds grimly dystopian. ❜
❛ I am not afraid of you! ❜
❛ All this could be avoided! ❜
❛ You consider me a murderer? ❜
❛ Gross way to die. ❜
❛ What sparks wars? The will to power, the backbone of human nature. ❜
❛ My life amounts to no more than one drop in a limitless ocean. Yet what is any ocean, but a multitude of drops? ❜
❛ Our lives are not our own. We are bound to others. ❜
❛ I believe there is another world waiting for us. A better world. And I’ll be waiting for you there. ❜
❛ You are allowed to feel messed up and inside out. It doesn’t mean you’re defective - it just means you’re human. ❜
❛ Power, time, gravity, love. The forces that really kick ass are all invisible. ❜
❛ Unlimited power in the hands of limited people always leads to cruelty. ❜
❛ Truth is singular. Its ‘versions’ are mistruths. ❜
❛ Dreams are all I have ever truly owned. ❜
❛ Your version of the truth is the only thing that matters. ❜
❛ I believe death is only a door. One closes, and another opens. ❜
❛ By each crime and every kindness, we birth our future. ❜
❛ The healthy can’t understand the emptied, the broken. ❜
❛ Lying’s wrong, but when the world spins backwards, a small wrong may be a big right. ❜
❛ The weak are meat the strong do eat. ❜
❛ Do whatever you can’t not do. ❜
❛ What precipitates outcomes? Vicious acts & virtuous acts. ❜
❛ I remain thankful to God for all his mercies. ❜
❛ You can maintain power over people, as long as you give them something. Rob a man of everything, and that man will no longer be in your power. ❜
❛ Power. The ability to determine another man’s luck. ❜
❛ Pain is strong, aye - but friends’ eyes, more strong. ❜
❛ Perhaps those deprived of beauty perceive it most instinctively. ❜
❛ Why ask a question whose answer would demand ten more questions? ❜

Crowley’s terror of being seen as nice and Aziraphale’s horror at being asked not to be (I am holier than thou! That’s the point!) are both symptoms of the damage they’ve taken from heaven and hell—Crowley’s afraid to bond with anyone and Aziraphale’s afraid to cut anyone off; Crowley’s afraid of tenderness and Aziraphale’s afraid of anger. They don’t know half of their essential selves. They keep hurting each other by projecting those parts of themselves on each other. Even though they relish being seen and loved by the other for those things, they panic when it’s said aloud. Which is why it’s everything that at the end Crowley finally lets Zira call him good and Zira lets Crowley call him a bastard, and they love it. They’re not afraid of themselves anymore.
