Claude the albino alligator circles around to greet spectators at the Dan Francisco Academy of Sciences. A staffer told us Claude is usually very still so it was unusual that he was moving around so much Saturday. He’s huge and beautiful and may have been inspired by the massive audience. The museum was absolutely packed with people, all wearing masks thankfully. This was one of the first major visits Chris and I have made to a public venue in a very long time. I’ve been inspired by all the PRIDE art, post, stories, rainbows recently. Created this piece inspired by an Alex Sheldon photo on Unsplash (great site for copyright free images.) but did it my way. Making art is not a linear process so there are often starts, stops and multiple directions a piece goes before it clicks and says done! Art. Sometimes it happens in a trance. La la la you’re working and then suddenly there’s this piece that’s finished. Kinda like driving on auto pilot. You know where you’re going but you miss the details of the journey and then suddenly you’ve arrived. It happens! I’ll call this one The Trance in honor of that art experience. There’s a story everywhere you go if you’re willing to notice. People are glorious even when greatly challenged. I only had about five minutes with these people but it was uplifting.
