Charlie Eppes is kind of a bad teacher
#numb3rs#charlie eppes#I love the man but if I was paying tuition???#My ass would’ve switched out after the first week!!#like “wdym the professor isn’t in? It’s his office hours? …oh? He’s doing an investigation? For the fbi? And the ta will be teaching?”

Reasons we should all watch Numb3rs, by me
Fun show
The main crew are two brothers and their widower dad, who are recovering from the death of their mom. Despite that, it doesn't FEEL like a dead mom narrative /pos
The brotherly shenanigans from every episode
The main cast is also 50% nerds and 50% lesser nerds
Crime show where we actually explore a wider range of human on human crime, rather than an intricate rape case every two episodes
Listen I get enough sexual violence in rl I don't want it in my crime escapism show
Charlie clearly shows empathy on many occasions and that doesn't get in the way of his intelligence.
Relatedly
We get to see very intelligent, very smart characters who have interpersonal plots other than "I'm too smart to know how to be a person"
As an ace person I distinctly understand the idea that "you can get so much done when you're not thinking about sex" but as an avid learner I hate the implication that you can either be good at your studies or have friends. And the trope of "really smart character and the friend who loves them in spite of their intellectual tendencies". Ew. Hate it. Friends shouldn't be handlers.
None of the supporting cast give off the impression that they're pity friends with the main cast
It's from 2005 so we get to explore "cutting edge technology" that's old hat to me. It's so much fun to see things reframed as new and cool. Makes life more fun.
Characters who are all in their chosen professions and get to do that around the crime bits
Silly experiments
I love the characters and I want to see them in a thousand situations
Let them be happy. And doing math forever
#numb3rs#propaganda#can confirm#the show holds up remarkably well even now#<- it still has its rough patches but it holds well!!

Living in Germany means hearing this man's voice,
(Benji Dunn – Mission: Impossible series)
but also knowing him from Star Trek. But not as the voice of Scotty (played by Simon Pegg), nope, but this nice fella.
(Leonard "Bones" McCoy ‐ Star Trek)
Oh, and not to forget, the same voice actor appears in one of my favorite series
(David Sinclair – Numb3rs)
In conclusion, German dub is so confusing 😭🤣
#numb3rs#david sinclair#the last one gave me whiplash#to be clear: I don’t speak german at all but#That’s… an interesting set of dub roles xD

I am almost done with the second season of numb3rs and the only real things I have to say so far are 1) I think it’s very interesting how Don will very quickly bring Charlie in to experience The Horrors while also trying to protect him 2) I hope at some point there will be an overarching plot of some kind and 3) I need them to actually make some progress with Charlie and Amita’s relationship

If you are someone who likes to watch a lot of cop shows, I want you to ask yourself a few questions.
Why do all TV cops, even the good ones, hate Internal Affairs? Isn’t the job of Internal Affairs to root out the “bad cops”? Isn’t their job to make sure police follow the rules? Why is that presented as inherently evil or antagonistic?
Why do all TV cops, even the good ones, hate defense attorneys? Isn’t the defense attorney’s job to protect the rights of all citizens? Isn’t it their job to make sure police follow the law? Isn’t it their job to make sure everyone is treated fairly under the system? Why is that presented as inherently evil or antagonistic?
Why do all TV cops, even the good ones, get upset when citizens invoke their constitutional rights? Don’t those rights exist to ensure all citizens are treated fairly? Don’t they exist to ensure innocent people are not wrongfully incriminated? Why are citizens who invoke their rights presented as dishonest, untrustworthy, or antagonistic?
To be clear, I’ve watched Brooklyn 99 and enjoyed it. I was watching Elementary the other day. But even when I watch shows I like, I make a mental note every time a cop lies, breaks the law, subverts someone’s basic rights, or just generally acts like an asshole to the people the are meant to serve and protect.
How often are they called out on their behavior? How often are they punished for it? How often is it reinforced as correct by the narrative?
When I tell people to be critical of the media they consume that is what I mean. Not simply calling it terrible and moving on, but actually engaging thoughtfully, asking questions, and forming conclusions about what that media is trying to say to you. Then decide whether you want to keep listening, or if it will be better for you in the long run to move on.

…every once in awhile, I allow these outer wonders to kind of blind me to the inner miracles that are occuring, transpiring every day, all around us. I didn’t see any miracles today, Larry. No, no, no, but, you see, the tendrils that connect human beings– one to another, they’re just so…unlikely, so inherently, um, fragile. I–I think that it’s a miracle that they even exist at all.
