KinnPorsche 1x03 Thoughts

“When was the last time you were this happy?”

That deep breath Kinn let out as he lay beside Porsche. Freedom. Joy. Carefree.

Unencumbered by his status and being the second son who behaves like the first. Kinn closed his eyes and really took it all in. He didn’t need to be vigilant or alert in that moment.

Porsche brings him peace and is not even aware of it yet. It’s worth noting how subconsciously Porsche lets out this little laugh after Kinn closes his eyes and breathes. Porsche may not fully understand it yet but he’s in tune with him enough to know when Kinn’s letting one of his many walls down.

Then as quickly as the moment came, it disappears. Kinn is brought back by the reality of his situation. Moments of peace are far and few between. Experiencing it briefly only highlights that and makes it more painful.

Porsche noticing the shift in Kinn’s mood, he kicks up his legs and asks what he’s thinking. The question about the last time Porsche was this happy is layered because it’s letting us know:

Kinn is saying that he’s happy right now

“This happy” implies it’s a significant amount of joy he’s feeling and

Is attempting to draw on a memory when he last felt this level of happiness and can’t

Porsche’s answer can seem like he’s brushing it off and being silly but being around Kinn is bringing out a different side of him too. Why did he pull Kinn there out of everyone?

Like Kinn, a sadness washes over him. Porsche chooses to open up to Kinn about his life, and why the events of the day hurt him in ways he can’t process sober. He’s becoming everything he hated. Who can relate more than Kinn? Difference is Porsche still manages to find the good. Like Kinn saving him and he thanks him.

Something he never expected to do but moments keep arising where Kinn is doing what? Looking out for him. When Kinn protected him from the Second Family, when Kinn told Pete to take him outside during the debtor’s beating and when he saved him from being shot fatally. Does Porsche finally have someone to depend on?
