Miri thought she was alone, otherwise she’d have never let her face show her thoughts so clearly. When Portia speaks, alerting her, she straightens and smiles, shaking her head. “I’m fine,” she says reflexively. “It’s nothing. Really.”

“Do you ever wonder if it might just never work out?” Miri asks Wanda. She didn’t have a very long romantic history--a boyfriend she’d only kissed once before she broke up with him, a couple hook-ups, and Cassie-- but she did wonder, seeing others falling in love, if she was just falling behind.

“I can’t believe there’s going to be a latke eating contest on Saturday. Like…. I’m pretty sure I was born ready for this moment.” He couldn’t help the grin that was expressed freely as he turned to someone, anyone. “You’re looking at the soon-to-be winner of that food eating contest, mark my words. “In my defence, it’s not really something I’d want to explain to my mum,” Miri points out, wincing before mirroring her mum’s smile. “At least you know now?” She shrugs. “Where did you even pick that up?”

“I overheard a conversation between a few of my students earlier and found out that ‘netflix and chill’ doesn’t at all mean what I thought it meant… Honestly I’m kind of upset no one told me what it meant sooner.”
