He was one of the first sorcerers to come to the defense of the city when King Glee launched an attack, managing to hold the city wall singlehandedly as the battle raged outside. He is quite respected in the Twin Cities, though some think him too young to lead the Academy. There are rumors he accepted the position to stay close to his brother, The Navigator Prince Navier. "Puck, The Art District, Titania IX" The Art District is a megalithic structure covering most of Titania IX. Referred to as The Far City by most colony folk in the local star group, it covers over 60% of the planet with its sprawling skyline. Its main exports are Enchantments, Creativity Magicks, and the latest in material printing technology. Though quite far from many star systems, the colorful fogs and buzz of The Art District draw creative souls from all over the known universe. The Finer Zeal, Intergalactic Arts Magazine, 4077.1717.A.S I feel like it's been a while since I painted something in the really far flung future part of this timeline. So here's Puck! They like dismantling capitalism at every opportunity, painting over Militia propaganda, and adopting street cats. They were a joy to paint. The Scarecrow Effigies of the Forest Gates 2023 Corel Painter 2023/Procreate "Walk with peace, children of Life. Only the faces of Guilt need fear the effigies. Should thine visage be carved upon it, flee, flee far and forever, for its body is a perfect cage for thee." Titania's Edicts 21:23 No one has ever seen the scarecrows being constructed, or hung from the trees. They seem to appear silently, and shift location constantly. Sightings are very rare and vary widly in description. All surviving records suggest the faces on the figures are completely blank. However, there are a handful of firsthand witness accounts reporting someone they were traveling with going missing shortly after exclaiming the masks appeared to be their own face. Most choose to avoid the Forest Gates altogether nowadays. Roads have been constructed circumventing them entirely. Wow thanks for reading this far! You can be whatever another person needs no matter the personal cost. We're taught the value of money, of friendship, of love, of fame, and property; but never of ourselves. For a long time it was easy for me to be this character. To be a blank slate, a white card ready to be filled in, whatever it took to find love or happiness. I thought it was so romantic to be this extreme. I figured it would win me some television romance. A Hollywood ending. Sure, I was still myself, but I was always passive. I was ready to put myself aside at any moment to make room for someone else. It's this constant reorganization of the heart that really starts to slow you down. You've shifted yourself around time and time again. Left pieces of yourself in little boxes, tucked away in shelves, long forgotten. When the time comes to ask yourself "What do I want?" a panic sets in. You scramble to find those scraps of your heart, you know you'd just seen one, where did you stow it away? You freeze up, a deer caught in the glare of headlights. If you keep ignoring this question, eventually, you'll stop asking. Let's be honest, this caricature of goodness won't win you that romantic movie relationship. It's reckless to have this need to die for someone, or something. If you're going to be this passionate, redirect it back towards yourself. It's all about the balance! It's a terribly thankless job being all the things that your people need you to be. Even though you may not feel appreciated when you're spreading yourself to your limits, you're becoming stronger. You're making the people around you stronger. I see you, shoulder to cry on, a listening ear, a set of arms to help move, a steady rock, a comforting look, a mediator, and I thank you. We try to impress our families. We do our best to look cool, to feel stylish, to have a good reputation. We morph into and around each other constantly. An ever evolving social fabric. Why is it that no matter how intimate we get, that tiny tinge of loneliness remains? How close is close enough? Is it just the human condition to always be seeking these connections? "TRAGEDY PLUS TIME" One day you'll make fools out of these painful memories. It'll seem like such a laugh once the hurt has had time to settle. With just a little time to find clarity you'll look back at this and be able to smile again. I used to do anything to avoid feeling foolish. The more I look at it though; the more I realize that it was time wasted. In the grand scheme of things isn't a moment of foolishness worth taking a shot at something? Step outside that comfort zone every once in a while. Even if it ends up biting you, it'll just take some time before you learn to laugh again. "THIS IS FINE." When a problem comes around, my first instinct is to ignore it. Perhaps I'll shelve it for later. Add it to an ever growing list of things that I'll get around to when that perfect moment comes. I find myself waiting for this fabled moment of clarity. That exact spark of light when I'll have the wisdom to deal with this mountain of ants. Aren't we all doing that now? Once the stack gets too high it will topple us. How long do you have to wait around in the dark before the spark comes around? It seems to me like its been too long now. Maybe the best course of action is to start tackling these things as they come. Death by a thousand tiny cuts sneaks up on you. As long as we are all acting fine, we're doing a poor job of mending each other. Let's stop pretending that things are great. It's time to be upset. It's time to be angry. "I WOULD HOLD ON TOO TIGHTLY." Isn't the best kind of love to fall into the crazy kind? When you first discover what it feels like. It's too intense. To love someone so much that you want to cling to them at every moment. How deeply you can integrate into someone's life. How quickly you can jump on their back. It's very immature. I used to always want to be a team. It was easier to be a couple than myself. So for a while, the goal was to find love, at any cost. I'd sink my claws into someone and hold on much too tightly. My grip would leave bruises, gashes split them open. Like some sort of deranged succubus, I would cling until I started to squeeze the life out of them. I'd like to think I don't love so selfishly now. Let's learn how to fall in love responsibly. "BLESS LIQUOR FOR KEEPING THIS FAMILY TOGETHER" These monsters we hide. We hoard them in the dark, out of sight. Fearful that our scars might show, and might define us. Isn't it crazy? The way we fill up these little poisoned wells. You can tell which families are held together by this darkness. Split apart and held together all the same. The way you have to cling together in a storm. Except this storm stumbles and crashes through the house, stammering, yelling, and sobbing. You brace into each other, hoping the demon won't have the guts to show its face to a team. Sometimes this works. It's too bad really, that our vices tend to affect everyone around us. Like ripples and eventually waves. When the alcohol functioned as medicine. This vice held us together when it soothed and sang to us. This vice tore us apart when addiction clawed at our minds. We loved, despite. The dark would not conquer us. This is one of the first pieces that will be up in Not Sheep Gallery, Columbus, OH, as part of the small works collection!
