jono is a repeat criminal offender, both adult and juvenile. sometimes the arrests are for actual crimes he's really committed, and some are fluffed up or invented charges brought on by profiling, given he very much fits the physical descriptor of a criminal by most police standards. dark clothes, punkish teased hair, covered face, etc. (vandalism, trespassing, arson--albeit this one is accidental--disorderly conduct, disturbing the / breach of peace, obstruction of justice, incitement, violation of dispersal orders, rioting, carrying a knife). once he's joined generation x, the x-men--and emma in particular--often bail him out. once or twice, it was magneto instead, especially when the charge came because he was participating in a civil dispute or standing up for a mutant being bullied. he was fairly well known in england for being a shit-stirrer, and his reputation started ballooning quite quickly in america once he left the school.

the type of person to throw rocks at cop cars. frequently running his ass off from authority and law enforcement.

likes to probe abandoned buildings, mostly out of curiosity.

regularly attends protests, especially to look out for anyone who cant defend themselves.

sometimes turns up wearing paige's clothes. it is usually just one article, and sometimes its an entirely accidental grab.

sort of gets table manners beat into him by paige in the proverbial sense. that girl is southern with a huge family, jono has to learn how to be polite and cordial at their dinner table.

' miss frost? ' that brandished formality wore strange on jonothon, who embodied a sort of brusque and unrefined attitude (throwing rocks at cop cars type expressions), yet it was one he could never drop. her tenure as his teacher created a nest in jono's blackened furnace heart, the exact place he tucked all his sensitive parts away into. though, he did quite a poor job at holding them all in.

his flames whip and hiss, pluming as if a lions mane from the centrifugal point, his gaping throat twinging beneath. altogether, he looks.. agitated, and not in the 'i'm going to explode with rage' sense. ' somethin', uh, strange, is happenin' to me. ' jono furls his long, narrow fingers, guitar string callused, into his palms. ' i-i don't.. know how t' describe this, best if i just.. ' he gestures in the direction of the danger room. ' humor me? '

expanding a little on jono's mutations since the comics haven't actually done a lot with them since his debut:

jono's flames would be categorized as 'psionic biokinetic energy'. this is the same kind of energy manipulated by the phoenix, by the void/bob, etc, and like these figures / the individuals who are associated with these figures, it means jono's potential for destruction is massive. at his current scale of understanding of himself and his body, he could nuke a medium sized city. if he continued to practice and harness his ability and actively attempt to reach new heights, it could be a hell of a lot worse. it is actually probably a really good thing jono is so self-loathing in his teens/early 20s, as he lashes out a lot and struggles intensely with mood swings and depression. it would make him incredibly volatile.

this energy is also creationist energy, as i've mentioned, everett realized it could repair jono's face/chest and regenerate his organs. again, jono just isnt aware of this.

he has figured out how to channel his energy into 1. explosive nuclear blasts, 2. streams, and 3. guided shots. the last can kind of act like a homing missile.

he has the potential to be a vastly powerful telepath. he's capable of tuning into the eternals' uni-mind, previously characterized as something only very strong telepaths can do, like charles, jean, exodus, etc, suggesting jono's raw potential as a telepath is incredibly high. but, again, it is steeply underdeveloped because of how much he hates himself, how much dysphoria and dysmorphia he suffers with; it inclines him not to pursue his powers or expand his capabilities.

he is more or less a basin of raw potential that just requires refinement, training, and acceptance. he has been classified as a potential omega level.

jono's family is from the east end boroughs of london. very poor, a line of destitute scots that were forced to move out of scotland after a great or great great grandfather lost his employment and could never get back on his feet again to the level of income he earned before. the starsmore line was also stricken by some medical tragedies mostly relating to the spanish flu of the early 1900s, which took the lives of at least three of jono's relatives. a few died in the war(s) as well.

while jono's background is scottish and it isn't something he or his family have forgotten, he's a londoner with an east london dialect/accent. he has a baby sister and a blue collar working father. his mother is not in the picture. when his mutation manifested, he ran away, and never came home. he hasn't called his family in years, and they don't even know if he's alive--if they haven't seen him on television as part of the x-men, anyway.

jono's mutation is kinetic and nuclear energy. it is most comparable to jean's harnessing of the phoenix--it's a creationist energy, as everett notices it has the capacity to completely rebuild jono's face, throat, and chest, if he chose to harness it in that way. (as he constantly avoids his own mutations, he isn't aware of this.) it's a furnace and a bomb and could effectively serve as an atomic bomb if utilized correctly.

jono's 'true form' is something more like pure energy, somewhere between how the human torch and sunspot represent in their ~fiery forms~. he is also completely unaware of this. this is why his mutation blew a hole in his body when it manifested, as it's trying to encompass him. likewise, he could completely contain it if he ever tried to learn how.

he is also a powerful telepath with the capability to be on par with someone like emma, again, if he tried or trained.

i maintain his bachalo appearance. he has auburn wavy/curly hair, and his eyes fully reflect the color of his flames. they WERE brown before this. he wears big black coats, a million belts, fishnets, bracelets, spikes, painted nails, etcetera. he would wear jewelry if it didn't melt off his face.

likewise, the color of the flame changes depending on intensity. low intensity is red, high intensity is blue-white, with the spectrum of orange-yellow-purple in between.

i'm most interested in arcs where he attempts to better himself, work through his suicidal depression and bleak self hatred and apathy, and become the kind of mutant he really could be.

EYE COLOR(S):  unclear, as jono's eyes now burn with the color of the flame inside him at all times. the color of the flame changes depending on its intensity.

HEIGHT:  5 ft. 9. however, being terribly lanky and wearing platform boots makes him look a lot taller.

BODY BUILD:  narrow. athletic, but only just; his legs have some ropy tendon tight to the skin, his hips point out, and little else. jono is very, very willowy, and even a little gangly. his limbs are a touch too long. 

NOTABLE PHYSICAL TRAITS:  he has no lower jaw, no front of the throat/neck, no middle clavicle, and an open gouge from aforementioned jaw hinge to sternum. you can see some of his bones when the covers are removed.

some quick headcanons:

jono is an anarcho-communist. fully believes in the liberation of the common man, community aid, the needs of everyone no matter how steep the need met, the barter system, the right to mutually beat the shit out of each other. he comes from a blue collar, working class family of england-residing scots and has been poor all his life.

aside from the gen x team, jono is probably relatively close to the new mutants, since they're only a few years younger than the gen x team at most.

jono has canonically attempted suicide, so depression and suicide struggles will be present and prevalent. i'll tag anything i think might be triggering.

jono is bisexual and genderweird. he doesn't really know what he is gender-wise. fluid? bigender? nonbinary? he cant figure it out and so chooses to remain unlabeled.

i will never be de-gothing him like the last 5-8 years of comics have. that man wears all black 90 percent of the time, trench coats and threadbare kneed pants, huge belts and chains, makeup and teased hair, massive platformed demonias and mesh gloves, etcetera. it is vital to me jono looks like he walked out of an 80s english goth band or like an extra member of the cure at any given moment.

(i would actually say robert smith is pretty close to the voice i hear for jono. he's somewhere between smith and bowie lmao).

at any given time, has or had a crush on paige, half of her brothers, and everett. very unaware of his crush on everett, just thinks he's the coolest and most handsome man he knows.

can play the guitar and sing, very well. probably busks for money when he isnt around the x-men or other mutants.

potential omega level mutant. his true appearance is something comprised of pure energy. he's just, deeply unaware of this or his potential overall as he hides from it and obscures himself as much as possible, refuses to explore and find the ceilings of his abilities. he's also naturally a strong telepath, but, again, is self loathing and uncomfortable enough with himself that he doesn't ever try to improve. he generally limits his telepathy to projection like a radio because of that, so his friends can hear him 'speaking'.

i am not mcu based, nor rivals based, or any other material based. i may take influence from these things from time to time, but the 616 is my comfortable home-verse.

i'm not a comic elitist or anything. i think both the mcu and 616 are immensely flawed. i just like the 616 universe best.

i like jono/paige, jono/everett, jono/angelo. i dont really like jono/monet and i'm neutral on jono/jubilee. i dont portray them as having had a romantic relationship but am okay with one developing organically through rp.

no weird ships please. nothing with characters substantially younger than him or characters he does not and would never view in that light. i’m just not interested in shipping him with characters he’d look at and think ‘baby’.

i am very slow. i may take a week or longer to reply to a dm, let alone a thread. i have severe chronic pain, adhd, severe anxiety, and responsibilities. sometimes i just forget, other times i'm not sure what to say, and other than that i'm frequently busy. i am quicker to answer discord messages but even then i am not the fastest. i will not be shamed or vagued about this. i am an adult, and you are an adult. treat me with kindness and patience or block me and remove yourself from my online sphere.
