I mean, what's there left to say about him? He's perfect. Talent? Off the charts. Sass? Off the charts. Comical misfortune? Off the charts. Face card? Off the charts. Handsome, cantankerous, hilarious.
Resisting the urge to rage-reply to every "in retrospect Bergeron wasn't that good/deserving of all those Selkes" engagement bait tweets I see
You watch your team lose 14 games in OT because of defensive zone faceoff losses and an inability to break the puck out and tell me that the greatest defensive center of all time no longer being on your team has nothing to do with that. I DARE you.
How are the Bruins doing this year? I don’t know. I literally have no idea. We have the most overtime losses in the league by a mile. We're also second in the league standings as of March 5th. We can’t break the puck out for shit. We miss Bergeron. Pasta's on pace for another 50 goal, 100 point season. Our team is a Frankenstein’s monster of 60 goal-scorers, elite goaltending, NHL journeymen, and a constant rotation of AHLers. Our coach is playing musical chairs with our lines every single shift. Last night Pavel Zacha centered Morgan Geekie and David Pastrnak. Brad Marchand is our captain. Charlie Coyle is our 1C. Half of our elite goalie tandem went to the All-Star game in February and it wasn’t even the half that won the Vezina Trophy last year. If you look at the standings, we’ve been a top 5 team in the league all year. We didn't lose a game in regulation until November to start the season. The numbers would suggest we’re a playoff contender but we’re all wary and terrified.
We won almost 80% of the regular season games we played last year and Bruins fans have suffered permanent psychological damage as a result of it. We no longer possess the ability to watch and evaluate the team’s success over 82 games without succumbing to histrionics. Saturday matinee against a mid team? It’s never been more over. But hold on, did someone say 7PM Tuesday night game against a Cup contender? Someone call the We’re Back Department, we need to file a claim.
Are we frauds, are we legit, are we getting bailed out by our goalies, are we a product of a good system, are we a talented roster, are we lucky, are we unlucky, is it over, are we back, are we OT loss merchants, are we in a weak conference, are we all of those things, are we none of those things? I have no idea.
I just KNOW drafting Hellebuyck first was Connor's idea and Leon was like "ok, fine, I'll allow it but ONLY if you can promise me we'll get Pasta next."
Non-Bruins fans: Marchand is the dirtiest, cheapest head-hunting rat bastard to ever lace up skates. He’ll stop at nothing to achieve his goal of slew-footing every blue line in the NHL and breaking all their ankles. He should be thrown out of the league, stripped of his C, and suspended until 2027. And then arrested.
Bruins fans: uh-huh, yeah, sure, whatever you say
Non-Bruins fans: … also Pasta’s dirty and a bad person
Bruins fans: Oh I THINK THE FUCK NOT, FUCK YOU, WHO THE HELL DO YOU THINK YOU ARE? DO YOU KNOW WHAT HE’S BEEN THROUGH? DO YOU EVEN KNOW WHAT TYPE OF PLAYER AND TEAMMATE HE IS? LET ME TELL YOU SOMETHING, PAL …
“Taylor Swift should date an NHL player to grow the game!” I’m sorry but we all know that there was one player and one player only who was simple and attention-hungry enough to be up for that job and it’s this man here. Our time has passed, sorry hockey Swifties.
Heartstopper, RWRB, and Young Royals all feel like AU multichapter fanfiction adaptations.
Young Royals is the very-long but very-well-written one that’s on everyone’s rec lists and has over 5k kudos on AO3.
Heartstopper is the 65/? chapter one that’s written by an earnest teenager who grew up in queer online spaces.
RWRB is the fluffy one with 10 chapters that you skimmed through quickly except the 7th chapter which is bookmarked because it has the most incredible sex scene you’ve ever read, but you’ve never thought twice about the rest of the story.
Hockey RPF writers being known across fandoms as literary masters
When I first started reading MattDrai fics on AO3 I remember thinking “wait what the HELL is going on why is this the most consistently well-written fanfiction I’ve read in any fandom? Is this a thing? Do people know??” And apparently it is and they do.
