Today's Art Special is the underdrawing for a new oil painting. Last week the universe decided that I needed to know the Mystery of the Mary Celeste. At least twice a day I would either hear about or be recommended a video, podcast, or article about it until I absorbed them all. I found out that the Captain of the ship, Benjamin Briggs, was from my hometown in Massachusetts with almost the same birthday, 150 years before me. I felt a strong need to paint his portrait so I drew this based on one of the only known pictures of him. It is NOT Abraham Lincoln. .
