Here is my final edit.
I managed to make the small changes of making the green fade shorter, taking out bits on the end (credits and grid). I then had some time to play about with the symmetry and change the way these clips were edited.
After changing them I was much happier with the outcome of my film. I know that if I have had more time I would’ve liked to film more so I could’ve used different angels of each of the models and cut them into parts of the film to break it up.
I have enjoyed this unit a lot more than I thought, which was very unexpected as it was the project I was most worried about and I have found that navigating Premiere Pro and making a film is not as scary as I though it was. For me my favourite part was coming up with the ideas and editing.

- Take out credits
- Take out grid at the end
- Colour grading
- Make some clips quicker
- Experiment more with symmetry and grid
- Green fade too slow
I agree with this feedback, by taking out the credits and the other grid at the end would shorten my film which is something that I thought needed to happen anyway. I will definitely try changing some of my editing as my favourite parts are the ones that use symmetry so it would be good to have more of these.

For my first final edit I was actually quite happy with how most of it had turned out, although there were some parts that I didn’t like but I’m sure sure if this was just from watching it over and over.
I tried to use multiple techniques throughout so each clip is really different to ensure it is not repetitive at all. One concern I did have is that I’m not sure if some of the clips are too long and make it drag slightly, I believe this can be changed with some shorter snappy editing which I can go back into.
If I had not had the problems with the first way of editing not working then I would never have thought to try using the grid over the whole film which I think is really effective.

I found that I really struggled with where to start for my film, and how to edit all of the clips together smoothly. This was really frustrating as editing is usually my favourite bit and I was very worried that I was going to struggle.
Initially I put all of the the best clips into premiere pro to be able to create the grid of nine for the opening, this took a lot longer than I expected as I wanted to make sure they were all an equal size and and space apart.
After the grid the white square got bigger and the grid style left and I carried on editing the clips together, I made a list while I was stuck with different editing style to try these were:
- Overlay
- Split screen
- Cut the video in half (bring a new video in one half while the other fades out)
- On it’s own
- Architecture to person (visa versa)
- Crop at sides and put architecture in
After testing out multiple of these techniques I didn’t feel as though the film was working as if there was something missing, the grid at the beginning seem to be the only thing I was happy with. Realising this I decided to try and use the grid as a mask through out the film to break up the video and to use different sections to layer and move the film effectively.

On the day of filming I had problems with  the camera that I meant to be filming on, the FS5. It was showing all the footage as dark and grainy, as it was taking too long to figure out how to change it and was taking up valuable shooting time, I made the decision to shoot everything on the cannon 5D as I have used this camera before and could change the settings easily.
All of my models turned up and I had no problems with any of them, all three were very relaxed in front of the camera which helped while I was shooting as they would follow the poses I had shown them and then they would add their own flare that came naturally with movement.
However I did find if I had carried out additional planning to collect extra shots and thought about other shots I might have liked to try or different camera movements. I may not need have needed the shots but would’ve been good to have the choice from them, panning from different angels and going back into the colour in the end, instead I was thinking about making the clip short as that is what I wanted in my film but I could’ve then edited this after.

Visiting this film festival helped me to see a variety of different editing styles which helped with my research about thinking of small changes that’ll  be able to differentiate areas of my film. I did not take as many notes as would’ve liked to but this was down to being too immersed in the films I did not want to miss anything happening. In addition to this York had a lot of architecture that I was able to photograph and it was interesting to see the different types of that they have compared to Bournemouth. Photographing the architecture was mainly useful as i was having to be aware of my surroundings looking for and spotting locations with the most interesting bits.
If I was to return to Aesthetica I would be more aware of trying to speak to new people, networking is always an important process and its always good to find out about different companies and job roles, making contact for the future.

For each of the colours there will be a different outfit for the model to wear and a different emotion to perceive, therefore meaning a variety of poses. When picking the poses carefully I made sure that there were a mix of poses that can be used within the film and for a photoshoot, this included me taking into account the fluidity of the shots so not making the model going from a floor shot to standing up.
Doing this before filming helped me to have a clear idea of what I wanted to to shoot, also having lots of imagery will help the models as they can see what I am looking to achieve instead of me trying to explain to them.

This document includes the detailed parts the the shot spread out into different subtitles helping to plan the different areas and what will happen on the day of the shoot. Having this helped me to prepare for the shoot, thinking about the different props I need and I was able to show it to my crew so they had an idea of what was going on and they could help assist.

The Crab
My reason for choosing a studio for the main part of my film is because i will be able to focus on capture the emotion the models are portraying in the different colours and the masculine, structured clothing will be clearest with a plain background. In addition this allows the pop of colour to be the main focus if the film and there will be no distractive elements in the background.
Because I have not yet shot the film I do not know what the outcome will be like within the studio environment, but while planning it is becoming evident that is this the most practical option as if i was to have chose separate location I would have had to make sure there is always somewhere that my models would be able to change in as I have different outfits for them to wear.
To go with this I will be shooting some architecture around bournemouth town and the beach to still keep in touch with the brands influences, finding things that will contrast the colours within the clothes and compliment ant prints.

Inspiration for the nine squares in the beginning of the film.
This idea of having the opening layout in the nine squares came from a mixture of this game show and Instagram. I really like how the brand cut their pictures in half and use their instagram a bit differently which made me think about how I wanted to implement this. Having the nine squares will be effective as I can show multiple different things at once but still allowing there to be white space around the edge stopping it looking overcrowded.

After finding this photographer who created this collection, it inspired me to think about how effective it might be if I were to add tint to the film in places to really push the idea of colour to get across the narrative. Having these more vibrant colours fill the screen will add a playful touch to the overall film, also taking away from the repetitiveness I was worried about to begin with giving me more techniques to work with throughout.
The one thing that does concern me with using the tint is that although it would be adding a more obvious touch to the pop of colour side I do not want it to take away from the neutral colours either as theses play a strong part within the brand as well. This will be something I can play around with while I’m editing to see how it changes the final look and will be able to make informed decision of if it adds positively to the film or not.

This video popped up as an advert while I was watching a different video but it really inspired me with the concept behind it. In the video there are still images of different people people, all very commercially shot and then over the top pops a box with a different persons mouth and eyes and starts to speak explaining what the ad is about.
I thought I could use this in a way with layering the video’s and image’s of the architecture I find with the video of the model on top, this would break up different parts of the video and would implement the brands true inspirations keeping it on brand. Having watched this, I now have a better idea of different ways I can adapt my editing to give it that edge it will need to pull all of the videos together.

Watching this film helped me to see the way you can cut clips together in a snappy way but still making it look smooth. Cutting videos up helps to keep the viewer interested in what they are seeing and can also help to get rid of any part of the film that seems to drag.
Another thing that I like about this video is the angels that are used, the model is cut off a different places just focusing on one section of her which is much mire effective that have the whole body in the shot and there can be more emphasis put on to one area adding a sort of intimacy.
After watching this it has defiantly taught me a few techniques which i can easily implement within this film narrative without taking too much away from the idea.

This is my initial story board, after finishing it I realised that this may be too repetitive once it has been put together, meaning it will rely on the way I edit it to make it have what it needs in order to promote the brand through a different narrative. Because I am not yet certain about the way I want to put these clip together to make the aesthetic have more differentiation I will need to research and look into what people have used in other films to give me some inspiration.

This Business of Fashion page really help me with writing my overview of the brand. It gave me an insight into the founder of the brand and her background which is not information you can get from looking of the brands instagram.
In the article it talks about how the jobs and education in her past have aided her to succeed and thrive though her own business and how she has used her past experiences in a positive way making her an all round business women.
In this I also found out how the brand were founded in Australia but are now based in Paris and are a member of the Chambre Syndicale du Prêt-à-Porter des Couturier in Paris which allows them to show at Paris fashion week.

The video will start with nine squares each with a different colour, white, yellow, orange etc..
The model in each clip will be styled in outfits of neutral colour with one item as a vibrant colour showing off this pop of colour that is frequent through the brands Instagram.
The first clip will play in its square while the others stay in their colours zooming out of the garment which is the coloured item. The idea of the squares came from something the brand already do when they split their images in half before they share on instagram making the overall image appear bigger. This is an effective way to post as it splits up the imagery and gives a completely different affect.
Each colour will reflect a different emotion:
White, innocence
Red, anger
Blue, sad/ shy
Yellow, happiness
Pink, romance
Green, natural
Orange, playful/ energetic
Purple, mysterious
Black, powerful
The images above are some poses that represent some of the emotion that im looking for the models to re-create.
