all jokes aside i really do appreciate how buck's 'i'm an ally' moment was him trying so hard to explain his own caginess and hesitancy because, like, he's an ally, right? he's so supportive of everyone else in his life, right? he naturally gravitates towards other queer people that he meets and is dedicated to uplifting them — i mean, he even puts a rainbow on his instagram during pride month!! so why is he having a hard time when he's the one on a date with a man, when he's the one stepping into an identity that he's embraced from the sidelines for years. and, awkward as it is, i really do love getting to see him grapple with the idea of....i won't say internalized homophobia, necessarily, because he doesn't feel like this is a bad thing for him. but just, not viewing his own coming out in the same light as if it had been a friend or another loved one. i love seeing him deal with that, because it's something that so many queer people go through (especially bi people who were self-proclaimed allies long before they ever had an inkling about their own queerness). the sense of....why is it different when it's me? is such a difficult question to grapple with and i love that we're going to get to see him come to terms with the idea that yes, he deserves the same love and light that everyone else does, not just in the form of support from his family and friends, but that he gets to learn that he can love himself just as openly and loudly.
