is it against TOS to have multiple accounts? i have an inactive one because i lost the password for a while, and there are prompts on there i want to repost on my current one. I don’t want to accidentally frame myself as a plagiarist by “stealing” my own work.

one of my ended chat previews says [REDACTED] instead of the 'Chat ended.' display, but there's nothing there aside from the typical ended message when I read the log 👀what's that about...

According to the devs; "they have enabled the setting in that chat which prevents the final message from being displayed in the list."

I just noticed that the FAQ still says Google Docs, YouTube, Spotify, etc. links are not allowed because they typically have personally identifying information in them. With the change in the anonymity rules, is this just vestigial, or is it still banned?

This is a weird problem to have but i've been blocking alot of tags just so i can curate what i see and now the directory straight up does not load anymore. is there any way i can fix this? did i do something wrong?

You may have blocked too many tags to the point where nothing gets through the filter, or so many tags that the query times out. I would recommend opening a ticket on the Discord so that you can talk to the devs directly :)

The "Forgot my password" feature only works if you have an email to send a password reset to. In the meanwhile, you can get your password manually reset by either making a new account and making a mod chat, or joining the Discord and opening up a mod ticket. Thanks!

My biggest question and confusion with the new site is the slots for prompts. What exactly do they mean?

A slot is for the amount of people that can connect. Having more than two means it's a group prompt, having just two means it's one-on-one. One slot per person, including you!

How does the search function work? I try to do advanced search, but submitting tags nor going back to prompts does anything to search for the fandoms I've been looking for RPs for.

Advanced searching is currently broken right now 😭 we are trying very hard to fix it but the bug is eluding us. Normal search works fine - make sure that your tag category selectors line up (we had a feature where it wouldn't let you do combinations that don't work, the feature got lost in an update, we're looking to reimplement it). We're also looking into the feasability of an "Omnisearch" as the default search that you just enter a term, like "Street Fighter", and it truly does search Every Tag for that. But that's a WIP!

What exactly does "Managed" mean when it comes to prompts?

managed = prompt creator can kick people or allow other people to join the chat after you join.

unmanaged = prompt creator can't do the above.

Mostly relevant for group prompts!

Updating my prompts with tags does not work. The site tells me it's updated it successfully, but none of my tags actually get added to it.

You need to press the "submit tags" button - right now they are separate operations due to architectural reasons but we will be unifying the buttons Soon:tm: so the one button pushes everything to the database.

I’m not sure if I missed reading something but just quick question! Are our cherp accounts/logins going to be on the new site? If I use my username and password will I have access to my rps? I haven’t been able to check in recently so I definitely missed a lot.

I've noticed that the italics formatting is kind of inconsistent. At first I assumed it was an issue with the logs converting over, but I just got on my laptop and saw that a response I wrote on mobile using the WYSIWYG shows as unapplied markdown (so it just has the asterisks without actually italicizing anything). But when I hit the edit box, the text is in WYSIWYG format and italicized properly?

Yeah, we are having trouble getting the text box to work properly. We will be experimenting with text boxes to try and get something that works consistently.

Why was the site migrated when cherami is so unfinished? Why were all tags deleted, forcing all my prompts into draft mode because there's now zero information in them? Why was the site migrated at all, cherp worked just fine to my knowledge. Cherami is, from a user experience standpoint, a sitewide downgrade. It is worse in every way.

The site was migrated due to the fact that we were - genuinely - threatened with being DCMA'd and having the site taken down by Thell / Insolent. Having a DCMA means it would have been a legal battle we would have to fight, keeping the site down indefinitely until we had any level of a replacement, while at the same time spending money that none of the team had. While we couldn't be sure that it ever was truly coming, the sword had been hanging for years - we would rather be out from under the thread and have to deal with some growing pains rather than live under the uncertainty any longer than necessary.

Tags were all deleted because our previous developer, the aforementioned Thell / Insolent, coded the tags in an extremely strange way - we will be posting a post-mortem on the Cherp schema and codebase soon - that meant that migrating them was essentially impossible no matter how long we spent on it. We spent several months just attempting to get the conversion to work correctly and couldn't get it to play nice, so we polled the userbase and they overwhelmingly voted to clear the tags out just to get things moving.

While Cherp 'worked' fine, it wasn't sustainable or functional in the long run. We had no dev environment / sandbox, a lot of the code was frankly horrific (i.e. users could create the same account name as someone else, and we ended up with over two accounts under the same username "cal") and had limitations (such as account recovery) that we wanted to improve upon. The fact that we had no ability to safely bugfix the site also meant that as time went on, the site would become more and more unstable under changing code, web, and security standards, and, like the old version of Cherp built on top of Cherubplay, eventually collapse entirely.

And, lastly, we also had no ability to add new features - even trying to add something simple like dice-rolling broke the site several ways from sunday - nor did we have a way to fix IP bans (an important security tool that was entirely nonfunctional) or group chats (an advertised feature of the site that straight up did not work most of its lifetime). Both of those things are already implemented and functional on CherAmi.

We understand that a transitionary period is hard, but this is not the final state of CherAmi and we are dedicated to improving it through constructive criticism and thoughtful input, until it is as smooth and intuitive to use as the best days of Cherp. Our server's drive has been officially swapped to the new SSD. This will require we reinstall all the boring backend administrative stuff, and then just put the database back in (we have it backed up, twice) and turn the code on. I won't give an ETA but it shouldn't take too long!

Regarding Migration!

alright so, we ran into an unexpected complication. i was basing my previous estimates upon the server having SSDs. it does not have SSDs. it used old fashioned Hard Drives that spin. 48 hour cap for the migration is no longer viable. instead it could take up to five days. i hope that it doesn't, and we're doing everything we can think of to gain extra performance for the migrations, but as it currently stands this is the state of things. bear this in mind. sorry for the inconvenience! devops is hard. -Hex
