⚠️ Before starting I want it to be clear that this post is not for hateful purposes but rather for informational one and simply to give my opinion, I did a lot of research on this subject and had classes on it and I wanted to share what I thought about it, if you do not agree it’s ok! First Magneto sees nation-states as part of the machinery that allowed genocide to happen (Naz!s, international inaction, etc…).

He trusts only mutant power, not any human political structure, including Israel.

He is a canon Jewish character, but thinking BECAUSE he is Jewish he is automatically Zionist is midd asf. Because Zionism arose historically as a response to centuries of antisemitism and the Holocaust, some assume a Jewish character who survived the Holocaust would naturally support Zionism or the State of Israel.

But not all Jews are Zionists, and not all Zionists are Jews.

Israël has been chosen to be a safe haven for the Jewish community after the WW2 because Israel was, before JC, the origins to the ancient kingdoms of Israel and Judah in the region historically called Canaan / Judea / Eretz Yisrael / Palestine. Then, it disappeared after the diaspora (70CE) and the Bar Kokhba revolt (135 CE)

With time other populations evolved in those regions: Greek and Romans, Samarians later, Christian Byzantines, Arabs after 7th-century Islamic conquest, and Ottoman-era Arabs and Turks.

Like my History teacher once said, Israel claiming it’s returning to its ancestral homeland, is as if Italia was claiming back the Roman Empire, Russia the URSS or even France the Napoleonien Empire.

The Difference with Genosha/Krakoa is that they are separatist mutant-only spaces that are often literally off the map. Their origins, for Genosha : a human populated island that actively used mutant slavery for wealth, freed by Magneto and reused as a mutant only land more as a colonial takeover than a cultural/religious mean. And Krakoa was a island that had no active human population.

The differences between those two and Israel : They both totally reject human society/politics and see themselves as isolationist states they don’t want anything to do anything with humanity. While Israel engages with UN, treaties, global trade. And is under a British Protectorate.

But then again : Magneto is Fictional, Genosha/Krakoa as well.

In Verso's ending, Verso catches Maelle. The very moment he sees her stumble, even once, he's right by her side; curling around her, shifting her to make her even slightly more comfortable, drawing himself around her. He repeats “you're okay” with almost as much desperation as he does “unpaint me” in Maelle's ending, and beyond that? Beyond even that?

“You've got this incredible power to paint. You'll never have to suffer a life you don't want.”

(When I tell you this broke me, I mean it crushed my very bones with a mortar and pestle. I am dead inside.)

Maelle's ending, Verso stumbles twice. He falls to his hands and knees, but gets back up, only to fall again. Maelle doesn't lift his head, only holds his hand, presses against his shoulder. When Verso whispers “help me”, the tired little boy looks back at him. And Maelle, sweet Maelle, doesn't understand just what it is that pains him; she's trying so hard to understand, but she can't, because never once has she not wanted to live with such desperation — the closest she's come is her life outside the canvas, before the canvas; her entire reason for wanting to keep the canvas is because life outside is not living to her, she is empty and lonely and broken. So she tries to understand, in the way it helped her; crafting a different world for him to live in, with different people under different circumstances. A “happy” lie to his painful truth.

There is something to be said about how Sinners isn't saying to lock the door on black culture and never let anyone else in. A big part of the scene of Sammie singng at the juke joint is the fact that there are other cultures involved. The chinese characters are accepted gladly and their culture is also shown in the process of looking back and forward.

In my opinion Sinners does point to the issue that white supremacy and a lot of white people who don't think they are racist like to iron over the culture they take in. Seperate it from the context and the people who created the culture until the heart of it is basically gone.

Remmick is a racist, but he also would have likely had a chance to interact with the culture in a normal way and connect with his own if he had just accepted that he wasn't the center of Sammie's music. The need to rip away Sammie's memories, talent, and culture and assimilate it into the hoard for his own gain without caring about what that culture means for the people it came from is the issue with Remmick. It is also the issue with a lot of people who want to view and interact with black culture, but get icked out when they actually have to be faced with the centuries of struggle that led to that genre of music, or dance, or hairstyle being created.

We have been through many wars before, but this war was not like the ones before it. Our lives were turned upside down. We became displaced from one place to another. We are the Anas family, residents of northern Gaza, specifically in the Shujaiya area. In the first week of the war, we fled our home because everyone considered our home to be in a dangerous area. We moved to the Rimal area, specifically in the middle of Gaza. There, we received the news that our home, which contained all our beautiful memories, was bombed. Suddenly, it was gone!!! Just thinking that your home, which you worked hard on and built from scratch and took a lot of your life, was gone in less than a second ! After a while, we left the sands to the Al-Zawaida area because of the heavy shelling. We stayed there for about two weeks, and then the terrorist army asked us to go to Rafah. We actually fled for the fourth time to Rafah and stayed there for two months, some of the most difficult days of our lives, as there was no way or means to live a normal life. 😔😔 After that, because of the invasion of Rafah, we moved to Deir al-Balah. Now, we are in very difficult and oppressive circumstances.

sinners inspired me to look more into history, specifically Black history (including the hard, uncomfortable, nauseating, horrific parts bc THAT'S part of the culture, no matter how much certain groups (white ppl) may want to ignore it)

but now I'm extra sad bc I looked into my Black ancestors but now ik the North Carolina plantation that owned part of my family and the slave owner I share a last name with (not bc I'm related to him, but bc it's a Scottish name forced onto my Black family)

also did some more research into Irish and Native American history, and I highly recommend looking deeper into all these cultures and more bc we all know damn well what we were taught wasn't what really happened- also learning abt other cultures (and your own) and appreciating them (not stealing them) is good for you
