BTS FANFIC WRITERS OF COLOR YOU NEED TO READ ASAP

Yesterday, I wrote about a post about the whitewashing that can happen in BTS fanfics and why we need POC writers in general - and in the BTS fandom. Today, I have a post with more than 60 BTS fanfic authors of color. Shout out to the Possums, my various contacts, and my other moots for their help.

The beauty of such a large and diverse BTS fandom is that there are so many talented ARMY authors in our fanfic communities. As I mentioned in my post about how whitewashed BTS fanfics can be, I get especially happy when I come across fellow POC writers. Thanks to my own reading and networks of BTS friends and writers, I’ve compiled a list of BTS fanfic writers of color as a jumping off point to explore more POC authors and content creators.

If you are a writer of color and I did not include you (or didn’t rec a fic of yours), it’s nothing personal. Sometimes, I don’t know if writers identify as POC or I just haven’t come across your fics yet. 900+ BTS Fic Writers Galore! (REVAMPED)

Hello! You may or may not have seen an older version of this post/spreadsheet circulating around for the past year. You probably may not have lol

Anyway, I created a Google slide listing a whole bunch of fanfic writers on tumblr who write (or used to write) for BTS. Let’s say hypothetically we have at least 300 blogs that have written at least 2 decently sized fics for BTS… that would amount to 600 (six hundred!!!) fics just waiting to be devoured whole by you, dearest reader!!

The reality is that there are so many writers on this hellsite (affectionately or nah? lol) it’s hard to keep up with them all. That’s part of the reason why I created this in the first place. Then I thought well shiiit I spent so long on this it would be a waste not to share 💀

It should have been a typical night. A break away from your minimum wage job. No one goes out to the rocks by the ocean at ten at night. Not unless there was a bonfire, co-eds, and illegal substances.

You only like the bonfire option out of those three.

You climb your favorite rock, noting that the tide is coming in, so you only have a few minutes of your break to enjoy. You have the flashlight on your phone, but other than that, it's pretty pitch-black, only light coming from the beach shops farther down.

So, you don't expect to hear voices.

"No!"

"Come on, Tae. It'll be fun." There's subsequent giggling, high-pitched for the obvious masculine voice. You fumble for your phone, but you lose your grip on it and it bounces off the rock and you wince, waiting for the splash sound.

Which doesn't come.

"It's one of those...you know." The first voice says a few seconds later.

"I'm not stupid," the second voice says.

"Tell that to Yoongi who had sweet talk that kraken out of eating you for dinner."

"Not my fault she didn't understand my offer."

"Your singing hurt her ears. God, didn't you listen when they tested us on predators?"

"Um, hello?" you interrupt the very odd conversation. "I don't know who you are, but did you catch my cell?"

"Cell?"

"The thing you're holding, dummy."

A giggle. "Yeah, I got it." There's a pause, some splashing. "Oh, you're up there."

"You can see me? I can't see anything."

“Human eyes aren’t very good, are they?”

“Hoseok! You can’t just….” There’s some muttering of words you don’t recognize.

“Wow, that’s quite a mouthful, Tae. Does your mom know you talk like that?” There’s more splashing and you move carefully to the edge of your rock, looking out into the inky black. “Hi.”

“I still can’t see you. But I’d like my phone back. And maybe, don’t murder me.”

There’s more laughter, delighted.

“Why would I do that?”

“I can’t. It’s your head, Hoseok,” the grumpier voice says. Then there’s what sounds like a dive.

“Did he leave?”

“He did. He’s really...he’s not really a fan of my late night swims.”

“So...you said human like...you’re not human.”

“Hold on, pretty human.” Laughter lights his words. You hear grunting like someone pulling themselves out of a pool. You can see a humanoid form sitting on the lower rock right beneath you. “Reach out, I have your contraption.”

“How do I know you won’t pull me in?”

“How many mermen do you know who would do that?”

You gasp. “Okay, very funny. But really, have you read Peter Pan, the mermaids in there are super creepy.”

“Mermaids are creepy, human. Why I have to eventually copulate with one...ugh.” He pauses. “I promise I won’t hurt you.”

“Ohhhkay.” Maybe you’ve worked too many shifts because you kinda believe this random voice. You reach out and after a second you can feel your phone. And wet cold fingers.

“You’re so warm.”

“You’re so cold.”

“Well, the ocean is cold.”

You turn the light on your phone and aim it toward him. His hands go up to block his eyes, but you’re more interested in the bottom half.

“Holy kraken.”

“There’s not one, is there?” You see him twist away to look out over the ocean. “I really don’t need another one.”

“No. Sorry. I just…” Your flashlight is reflecting off the most beautiful scales you’ve ever seen. It’s the weirdest thing, but they aren’t just green; they’re blue, iridescent, purple, and grey. “You’re a merman?” You move the light so it’s on his chest (Very Naked Chest - holy kraken indeed), not in his eyes, but you can see his face. He’s looking at you with his head tilted.

Gosh, he’s pretty.

“Of course.” He gestures to his tail then laughs again. “You don’t seem too angry. Or scared, pretty human.”

“Um, I’m not sure I’m not hallucinating.”

“I’m real.” You see his teeth flash white in the light. “We just don’t interact much with earthlanders like you. There tends to be death, and hunting, and blood.” He shrugs.

“So why are you talking to me?”

“You’re super pretty.”

You feel your face heat. “You are too.”

He giggles. “Thank you. I’m glad you understand me. Human language is hard.”

“You know other languages?”

“I spend most of my time around this area and north. I hear this language most. So I learn it.”

“You’re very good.” Then your phone beeps.

“What is that?”

“My phone telling me that my break is over. I have to go work.”

“Oh.”

Even in the faded light, you can see his pout.

“I can meet you here again, some time. If you want.”

“Yeah? I’d really like that. I have so many questions.”

“Me too.”

You see him move closer to your rock, his hands gripping the edge and lifting up to look up at you. You can’t move, frozen by his proximity.

“There’s a more isolated part up that way, about the length of a whale.” He smiles at you. “Meet you there when the sun’s in the middle of the sky?”

“Yeah, I think I can figure that out.”

He laughs. “That’s wonderful.” He lifts up again and kisses your cheek. “That’s how humans say farewell, right?”

“Um, sure.” His lips were cold, but soft.

“See you then!” He launches himself off your rock with his arms, doing some incredible backflip dive thing before diving into the water without so much as a splash. You can’t see anything, so you get up, flashlight on the rock to find your way down.

“Hey pretty human!”

You almost fall at his voice. “Yes?”

“Thanks for not hunting me!” The high-pitched laugh. You laugh back.

“Thanks for not drowning or kidnapping me.”

“Farewell!”

“Bye!”

Yoongi really doesn’t like you.

You’re loud. Cocky. Arrogant. You needle him all the time, dig your fingernails in and squeeze, revelling in the way he sets his jaw, the muted spark of irritation in his eyes. You bat your eyelashes and tilt your head, throw it back whenever you laugh and reveal the easing column of your throat, dragging each interaction out with a kind of sadistic pleasure that has him gritting his teeth. Because you love annoying him, getting under his skin, tapping your fingers against the soft swell of your bottom lip as you eye him up, taking your time before you speak.

Infuriating. You’re infuriating and you know it.

It’s unfortunate, really, because you’re unavoidable. 

Jungkook had asked, once, why Yoongi doesn’t just go elsewhere. They’re more than familiar with the underbelly of this heaving city, underneath all the neon lights and shimmering holograms and towering skyscrapers and legal tech; the scuttling seams of back alley traders and illegal goods, tech or otherwise. There are plenty of black market dealers, after all, plenty of other vendors he could go to to get the equipment he wants. Plenty of other skilled crafters, artificers, artisans, people who would be more than happy to create the things that Yoongi asks for, that he needs. People who can get their hands on anything you want. For a price.

Yoongi’s answer had been short and succinct.

“She’s the best there is,” he’d said, and that had been that.
