Chapter 5: Chapter 4: Murder, They Wrote (But Didn’t Publish... Yet) 👈

Narrated by Yours Truly, Harley Quinn

Last we left off, Little Boy Green was bleeding out on the floor, and one very pissed-off Bat-Boy was about this close to earning himself a full-blown murder conviction. I'm talkin' Netflix docu-series levels of drama here — “ The Robin Who Snapped: The Mask Behind the Murder ” — 

Yeah? It’s got a nice ring to it. 

Coming soon to a courtroom near you.

But anyway, before we cue the Law & Order theme, it should be noted that beneath all the flying fists, bloodstains, and deeply repressed childhood trauma, there’s still something kinda... tender? Like a soft gooey center wrapped in Kevlar and unresolved rage. Because, see, this ain’t just a story about violence and vendettas.

Nah, this is a love story.

A really messed-up, absolutely-shouldn’t-work-but-somehow-does kinda love story.

And like all great romances — it starts with a dead body, a betrayal, and a Shit-load of guilt.

So grab your popcorn, snuggle up, and maybe hide your sharp objects. Things are about to get real ugly, real fast.

...Okay, maybe I exaggerated the whole “dead body” thing just a tad.

Gar was — for all intents and purposes — not dead.

Yet.

But he would’ve been, if it weren’t for those meddling Titans, jumping in just in time to restrain one homicidally heartbroken Damian Wayne.

Now, before we dive back into the attempted murder already in progress, I feel like I owe you a little context — y’know, to really appreciate the emotional nuance of Bat-Boy losing his 💩.

For starters, remember how I said Damian was starting to suspect that Gar had been interrupting him and Raven on purpose ? Yeah, turns out that wasn’t paranoia. It was completely valid. Shocker, I know. But it gets better.

See, Gar had a bit of a crush on Raven.

Okay, more than a bit.

Okay, full-blown puppy-dog eyes, "I’ll save you with the power of processed soy" kind of crush. Basically, he was smitten from the moment he laid eyes on her.

Dick: Okay, so with Bruce being on a mission with the Justice League, we need someone to be Batman.

Jason: So you just be Batman again

Damian: Actually, I strongly disagree with that arrangement

Tim: Don't tell me.... you think you should be Batman?

Damian: No, I'm aware I don't have the same attitude to be Father

Jason: really?... just the attitude?

Damian: I believe Cain should be Batman

Cassandra: Oh?

Dick: Umm.... Dami, I don't think-

Damian: Think about it. Grayson is too nice, Jason has way too much pent-up anger

Jason: Fuck you.

Damian: And well Drake is just..... Drake

Tim: Wow...

Damian: Cain is the only person who can match Father to a T.

Dick: There are many reasons why she can't be-

Jason: No, no, no, Dick. The demon child has a point

Dick: ..... um, okay then

(Later thar night)

Penguin: About time you showed up-

Cassandra (in Bat suit): You'll pay for your crimes

Penguin: ..... the hell am I looking at?

Robin: What?

Penguin: WHAT DO YOU MEAN WHAT? WHO IS THIS?

Red Hood: Batman, duh

Penguin: No, don't do that

Nightwing: Don't do what? This is Batman

Penguin: That's obviously a teenage girl

The Batkids: (gasps loudly and in sync)

Penguin: WHAT?!

Red Hood: How dare you assume his gender.

Robin: During Pride Month, too

Red Robin: (shaking his head) and here I thought you were an alley

Penguin: okay no just take me in

Meeting' fears

Raven: You have to help me! Damian is taking me to meet his family tonight!

Zatanna: Oh, that's a big step.

Raven: Oh seriously? I hadn't noticed it.

Constantine: Gal, It's gonna be fine! Just be yourself.

Raven: They are the wealthiest and most prominent family in Gotham!

Zatanna: Oh, yeah, you can't be "ordinary"...

Constantine: Why not? It's Gotham! How high standards can they have?

Damian, to himself : Wait a minute, isn't this that... *memories about that "indirect kiss" cliché from anime *

Raven: *brings the bottle closer to her mouth slowly *

Damian, staring at her without blinking : *swallows loudly as blushes furiously *

Raven: *looks at him suspiciously and moves the bottle away from her mouth *

Raven: You know, if you don't want to share just say so, creepy birdbrain. *gives him the bottle back and leaves *

Damian: *grunts in disappointment *

At the Edge of the World

I’m jolted awake as the bus comes to a rough stop, my breath catching in a sharp gasp, as though my body desperately requires it.

“You still with us?” Tara asks as I rub my hand over my face, my fingers brushing against the edge of my head covering—a stark reminder of the reality I’ve reentered.

“Yeah, just a bad dream,” I murmur, swiping my hand across my cheek.

She watches me for a moment, as if she wants to press further, but doesn’t. “Well, from what I’m told, this is the last bit of civilization we’ll see for a while, so I’d take the chance to pee while you still can.”

I peer out the window, seeing the fringes of wilderness and a small town set against it. “Where are we?”

*Ending a mission in Gotham *

Damian, gloomy, to his brothers : I'm leaving, I need to be alone right now.

*Some minutes later in Titans Tower *

Damian: *painting to relax himself *

Damian, without taking his eyes off the canvas : Thanks for being alone with me, Witch Girl. Loneliness is unexpectedly more pleasant with you here.

Raven, without opening her eyes as meditates : To you. I just thought the same thing.

In the darkness, I stumble, my hands and body slick with blood, its warmth fading against my skin. I see nothing, but I have to get away — I have to escape this place.

I can hear Him — feel Him — scratching at my resolve, clawing to get out. The hum of His sinister laughter rises behind me, the cruel heat of His foul breath ghosting against my neck.

"YOU CANNOT ESCAPE YOUR FATE, MY DAUGHTER — NEITHER CAN THE BOY."

Damian looked back at Raven, a darkening fear in his eyes—not entirely sure what she was about to reveal. As uncertainty and the weight of a foregone conclusion began to clash against his better judgment, he finally understood how “What happened in Japan” spiraled out of control.

Luckily for him (or so he thought), Raven wasn’t withholding that sort of information. Not anymore.

But before we go tumbling down that rabbit hole--it’s better in doses, I promise--we should probably circle back to the night they met. Officially. 

Remember how I said Raven met the new Robin in an impromptu fashion? That no one—except maybe people who really knew Damian Wayne—could’ve predicted?
