“just leave your shoes at the door.” you instructed riki, before allowing him to enter your apartment.

“cool, cool.” he replied with a nod.

you watched as he examined your home, glancing over every last picture frame and decorative throw pillow.

“it’s nice.” riki assured, as if he knew what you’re thinking. “very cozy. small, but cozy nonetheless. this definitely feels like a home.”

“do you.. do you not have a home?” you asked him hesitantly as he took a seat on the couch. “it sounds silly, i know. but the way you said it just had me thinking.”

riki smiled, letting out a soft laugh as he watched you struggle to find an excuse. “sorry, i know i kinda made it seem that way. its not that i don’t have a home, im just never home. most of the time i end up crashing at a friends place, or falling asleep in the studio.”

“this could be your home. i know it’s probably a little far, and even though we just met, you’re welcome anytime.” you comforted him with a small pat on the back. “now let me get that stain out.”

riki was sat on your bed, facing you with his legs crossed as you scrubbed at the stain.

“why are you scrubbing it before you wash it?” he asked curiously.

“pre-treating it. sometimes the washer doesn’t do a good enough job because it can set the stain in more.” you answered, briefly looking up.

you didn’t see it, but you felt and heard his presence slightly drift as riki got up to walk around your room.

he scanned the walls, and noticed a white shirt hanging by the bed. on one side, it had now faint lipstick marks in a small heart.

“what’s this?” riki questioned, pointing to it.

“oh that? it’s, uh.. old valentines gift for an ex. i was never able to give it to him, but it was too cute for me to throw away. so now its mine.” you explained with a shrug. not much too it.

“y/n?” “yeah?”

“can i spend the night? just ‘cause, you know. it’s late, and i’m sure we’re both tired. for the sake of convenience.”

you stared at him with your lips slightly apart, before they curled into a grin.

“what? what’s so funny?” riki pouted.

“of course you can spend the night you dummy. you probably won’t be getting this sweater back until tomorrow by the earliest anyway.” you rolled your eyes.

“i wouldn’t mind if you kept it.” he joked, before walking back to his original seat in front of you. riki watched as you continued scrubbing at the deep brown stain, until it eventually faded to a lighter shade.

“throw this into the washer for me, and you can sleep in my bed. i’ll take the couch.” you pointed your head in the direction of the laundry appliances.

“wait-” he paused. “why would you take the couch? it’s your house. you take the bed.”

“you’re my guest. unless you wanna share the bed?” you raised a brow teasingly, but he knew you were kidding.

“oh shut up, you’re just dying to make me look bad. how ‘bout i just sleep on the floor next to you?” riki pointed to the floor beneath you two.

“okay. but don’t complain if your back is hurting by the morning.” you joked as riki let out an annoyed sigh.

it was late at night.

too late to be walking alone, but not late enough for the streets to be empty.

the walk from the bakery to the station was barely half a mile long, so you had no issue with being alone. especially since most of the street lamps were still on.

as promised, you texted your friends when you arrived, shortly before buying your ticket.

“could i get one ticket for the next train?” you asked the old woman in the ticket booth.

“of course, and the next train will be coming in 25 minutes.” she informed.

you nodded in response, before searching your bag for your wallet. once you found it underneath all the other items, you pulled out your credit card.. only to drop it.

at least it wasn’t the cup of coffee you held, that would’ve been terrible. (especially since it was the only thing keeping you awake).

a sigh was let out from the person behind you, and — wait.

there was a person behind you?

you immediately apologized without looking to see who it was, reaching to pick up your belongings. but the man was faster. he bent down to pick up your card, and placed it back in your hands.

“don’t drop it.” he winked.

and boy was that some wink. this guy, he was just so beautiful. was he real? were you hallucinating him because of the lack of sleep?

“thanks..” you said, only for it to come out as a whisper.

the group chat is definitely gonna hear about him later.

“sorry miss.” you turned back to the box office. “today just isn’t my day.”

“don’t worry sweetheart. every day is a good day. it’s just what you make of it.” she smiled as she swiped your card.

“oh..” her face fell. the old woman motioned you to come closer, before whispering. “honey, your card declined.”

“what? how? that can’t be right. maybe it’s this card instead. and- oh. i guess that was my only card..”

“you know what- you two are my last customers. and miss.. miss y/n.” she paused, reading the name on your card. “clearly you need it. it’s late, and this is the last train anyway. just take the tickets and go.” she stuck out two tickets through the window. one for you, and one for the guy behind you.

“i really can’t accept this- i can just call a friend.” the two of you said at the same time, only for the woman to stare blankly.

“..thank you.”

the station was empty and quiet with you two being the last and only people, waiting for the last and only train. especially since it was outdoors. the only thing breaking the silence was the wind.

“can i ask why you’re alone, especially so late?” he asked, slowly coming closer.

“oh, me? just finished work late, that’s all. especially as the manager, i’m always the one having to stay behind for clean up.” you chuckled. “what about you?”

“i fell asleep at work. my.. coworker.. who was supposed to give me a ride, never woke me up. and yeah.” he awkwardly smiled.

“so does the infamous girl with butterfingers have a name?”

you looked at him with a gasp, that slowly curled into a laugh. “you’re crazy.” you shook your head with a grin. “it’s y/n.”

“pretty name for an even prettier girl. oh and, i’m riki.” riki nodded.

“do you just always drop pick up lines on every girl you meet?”

“just the ones who drop their credit cards in front of me in line.”

“never letting that one go, are you?” you sighed.

“maybe, maybe not.”

the next train will be arriving in 15 minutes. the speaker announced.

“that’s still so long.” you groaned, before taking a sip of your coffee.

“okay.. to pass time, i bet i can guess your job within 20 questions.” riki responded as he nudged your shoulder.

“then i bet i can guess yours in 10. you start.” you shrugged.

“is it a corporate job?”

“no. is yours?” you asked. “you can’t repeat my question!” “too bad. go!”

“no, it’s not technically.” riki rolled his eyes. “does your job involve a lot of physical work?” he questions.

“yes. does your job involve music?”

“yes. are you a fitness trainer or whatever?” riki guesses.

“no, what? that’s actually so funny. are you a singer?” you replied.

he looked you up and down, as if he was examining your figure, before making another guess.

“no, but close! do you do anything involving a gym?”

“not at all. are you a producer?”

“..yes. how did you even know where to start? i was so lost.” riki groaned. it’s ironic how you beat him at his own game.

“it’s pretty easy. you’re wearing sony headphones around your neck. that wasn’t a big clue but it gave me an idea on where to start. but the biggest give away was your bag.”

“my bag? what’s wrong with my bag?” he pouted, examining his tote.

you rolled your eyes at his expression. “no, you big baby! there’s nothing wrong with it. but it says universal music group on the logo.”

“what if i just really liked that record label?” riki defended, crossing his arms.

“not possible. i have this regular who comes into my store every morning. he picks up coffee for his team i guess. and you know what his bag says? universal music group.”

“but that could be so general-” “let me finish!” you sighed after he interrupted your explanation.

“one of my coworkers asked him about the bag, and it’s an exclusive version for only the staff.” you raised your brows.

“okay i guess that was obvious. but nothing about you would give me a reason to think you work in retail, much less a cafe or bakery.” riki rolled his eyes in response, before poking at your cheek.

the last train at 25:00 is now arriving.

the two of you watched as the train stopped in front of you, the sudden gust of wind blowing hair all over your face.

you watched as riki fought back a small smile, before pulling you into the train to sit down.

riki stayed beside you, as he began to push the strands of hair away, slowly detangling it with his fingers.

“why are you so good at doing hair?” you asked curiously while he continued his work.

“i have two sisters. one older, and one younger.” riki leaned closer to smile in a way you could see him. but he was really close. too close.

you thought he was going in for a kiss, so you gently pushed at his chest.

but you used the wrong hand. the hand holding the coffee cup.

riki jumped up from his seat, examining the huge brown stain all over his white sweater.

your jaw fell open in a silent gasp as you watched him scrub at the spot, but it was no use.

“riki.. i’m so sorry. i didn’t mean to-”

“i wasn’t trying to kiss you by the way, if that’s what you thought.” he sighed, cutting you off. “i’d never kiss anyone i’ve just met.”

“i know, i know, and i’m sorry. it’s just- you were getting so close and you’ve been so flirty all night. i was just misreading the signals and i thought that-”

“shhh shh. it’s okay. i get it, i know i’ve kinda pushed the boundary, but still. i’m just a little surprised right now.” he scratched the back of his neck.

suddenly, the train came to a halt, and the conductor announced this was the first station.

“shit.. this is my stop. riki, where are you getting off?” you asked in a rush, as you quickly gathered your belongings.

“i still have three more stations to go.” riki informed.

you paused, subtly biting your lip as you thought about what to do next.

“y/n?”

“come home with me. i’ll drive you back in the morning. just spend the night, and let me get that stain out.” you blurted out on impulse.

“please?” “y/n..”

“the doors will be closing in 10 seconds. either get off or don’t.” the conductor said. “yeah, i’ll get off.” you sighed.

you stepped onto the platform, facing the cold air once more. you’d probably never see riki again, it’s alright.

however, he knows your name. he knows your face, and where you work. that’ll be really embarrassing to run into him again..

but all those thoughts left your mind when you felt his hand grab a hold of yours.

you looked up at riki with the most confused expression, probably ever.

“lead the way, butterfingers. you owe me.” he joked.
