I'm okay with Yasammy fighting, I'm okay with them figuring their shit out, I don't think a breakup story wise makes any remote sense. I'd even argue a breakup would destroy a lot if the found family dynamic in the group.

I think a breakup is adding too much drama in a show where the romance takes a step back to the actual plot. Yasammy can have their couple spats but I refuse to believe they aren't endgame.

Thinking about Ben flirting makes me brain itch

Ben and the masking experience

I was thinking about a thing I recently posted talking about Ben, where there is the phrase:

"getting too overloaded to mask properly"

And damm. If you are like me who like to headcanon him as ADHD/Autistic/AuDHD you will like this parallel:

During Camp Cretaceous S1, Ben is introduced as a shy, quiet kid. He is showed to the viewers as a fearful character in comparison with the other campers.

In Camp Cretaceous S2-S3 Ben seems to change kinda drastically. He starts to challenge his own fears, and you can suppose that he is finally doing the things he wanted to do this whole time, but that for some reason were before repressed inside him.

But the thing is, when we get into season 4, we realize he was still insecure. He was completely doubting his own capacities. He was still afraid.

Actually, let's be fair, this was already visible on the last episodes of S3. His fear of getting out of the Island bc, according to him, this could result in him coming back to be his S1-persona, was already showing us his insecurities.

Now talking about season 4, this subject gets attention again during the second episode. In that part of the show, we discover Ben was feeling like he was not enough, like he was incapable of protecting his friends. He also was confused about who he was, and had a constant fear of acting like his S1-persona used to act.

My point in all this is that, even with we knowing that Ben wanted to protect his friends because he care abt them, there is also a aspect we should consider: being the ultimate protector of his friends would validate his jungle boy persona, bc Ben's Jungle kid identity revolves all around courage, all around doing crazy brave things, all around freedom and not being repressed, and all around not being like S1 Ben was, since he sees his past self in a negative way.

And that's where my little ADHD/Autistic /AuDHD headcanon enters. Bc in my hc, I interpret that while aiming to distance himself from S1-Ben, he ended up contradictorily masking. It can be a little confuse bc he was in fact experimenting new things he was afraid to do before, but at the same time he was masking his errors and difficulties to "match" with his new jungle boy persona.

He needed to be brave and free, bc that was all that he thought he wasn't before S2. But he took this goal to another level, at the point he didn't know who he was anymore. In his mind, he needed to be a caricature of a brave & free person.

He was so afraid, so, so afraid of coming back to being his old S1 persona, that in S3 he preferred to stay alone on a crazy mortal dino Island than risking to come back to the continent and lose his "braveness" and "freedom". In my opinion, you need to be terrified to do that.

So, for me, he was masking everything that could look like difficulties. And interpreting like that, you can theorize he was afraid at least a little WHILE doing all his brave acts in seasons 2-3. We don't realize it bc He just masked really hard.

And masking really hard results in getting exhausted. Aaaand that takes us to what happened in S04E02. He was not getting to mask properly. His difficulties showed up. He freaked out. He thought he was not enough.

Why is this so ADHD/Autistic/AuDHD coded?

Oh and to finish this post I would like to mention that line Darius said in S04E02:

Maybe now, you're finally just Ben.

That's a important line, bc by saying it, Darius encourages Ben to look at himself in a different perspective.

So in conclusion, what I did here was kind of exploring a parallel between the experience of masking and Ben's character arc. I was kinda inspired by my own masking experience too. Let's hope that it all made some sense.
