Summary of the Movie
LION is a 2016 movie and was based on a true story about a boy named, Saroo. Saroo is a five year old boy that lives in Ganesh Talai in India with his mother, older brother(Guddu) and younger sister. Guddu and Saroo steal coal from trains and exchange them from food.
One day, Guddu need to go from a certain place to work but Saroo want to tag along. Guddu didn't want to but Saroo is a guy who doesn't give up that's why they went together and they arrived in a station. Saroo fell asleep and Guddu put him on a chair in the station. Guddu tried to wake him up but he's too tired. Guddu went somewhere and Saroo finds his older brother as soon as he wake up. Saroo searched for Guddu and entered a train, wherein the train travels for several days and lead him to Calcutta. He wanders around and tell people he's from "Genestalay(Ganash Talai)" but no one knows that place.
Saroo wander and wander until he met a woman across Noor, who seems so friendly. The woman brought Saroo to her apartment and fed him. She told Saroo that tomorrow, a man named Rama will come and help him to find his mom but Saroo sense that something is wrong that's why he run away. Two months later, he met a guy and he brought Saroo to a police and they brought him to an orphanage because they can't locate his home. After 3 months, Mrs. Sood, tell Saroo that they've searched all over their place but can't contact anyone. She also said that an Australian couple wants to adopt him. Few days later she teaches Saroo the English Language and they went to Australia to meet his adoptive parents, Sue and John Brierley. At first, there still awkwardness between them but later on he feels comfortable. After a year Sue and John adopt another boy named, Mantosh, who suffers from rage and self harm.
Twenty years later, Saroo moved to Melbourne to pursue Hotel Management. There, he met his friends and Lucy, an American student, who later on become his girlfriend. The happiness on Saroo's eyes vanish when he saw a jalebi, a food that is connected to his brother. From there, he confessed his true self. He said that he is adopted and was really from Ganesh Talai. His friends suggested that he must use Google Earth to find his place.
At that evening, Saroo begins to used the Google Earth. He was so engrossed to find his home that he disconnects himself to his family and also to Lucy. Saroo visits Sue when he find out that Sue has sick. After the talk with Sue he went home and tear all his findings to his hometown. He get his laptop and unproductively search until he noticed something and remembered the way. Finally, he already found out his home town, Ganesh Talai. He first told Lucy that he was successful finding his hometown and to his family. His adoptive parents fully support his efforts.
Saroo went back to his hometown. With the help of a man, he finally find his mother and younger sister. Unfortunately, Guddu died in a train. At the end of the movie, Saroo learned that he mispronounced his name all the time. It was "Sheru" meaning LION.
1. What life lessons can be learned from the movie?
If you really want something in your life, don't ever give up because that something will eventually become yours if you believe in yourself. And also technology is really helpful nowadays.
2. What part of the story told by the movie was the most powerful? Why?
When Sue said that they wanted the two of them in their lives. That they want to take suffering guys like Mantosh and Saroo to have a chance in the world. I find this lines powerful because this tells us that no matter how hard we are experiencing right now, we still deserve a chance.
3. Who was your favorite character in the movie? Why?
Sue Brierley is my favorite character in the movie. She really defines a a true mom. He treasures Saroo and Mantosh as her own. She accepted and supports the decision of Saroo and most of all, he accepts and care for Mantosh for who he are.
4. Did anything happened in the movie, reminds you of something that has occured in your life or others?
The moment when Saroo tear the maps and think that he was about to give up to find home but in the end he found it. That part really reminds me of something, about giving up.
I am a student athlete and I must manage my time for the training. One night, I went home past 8 because of the training. My mind was enclosed by our quizzes the next morning. I thought that when I got home I can finally review my notes but hey I can't. I still have to wash my clothes, cook our food, and our assignments. Past 11 when I finished all my task and I fall asleep. I didn't review. I went to school without reviewing. As I sat on my chair in our room, I quickly scanned my notes bevause I just have 30 minutes before our quiz will start and what's worst is that we have consecutive quizzes. I thought I almost gave up reviewing cause I'm still sleepy but hey! Luckily, I passed it.
5. If you have given a chance to ask a character in this movie a question, what would it be?
I would like to ask this question to the person who first brought Saroo to her apartment. I ever that Saroo didn't run away, what will you do to him?
