chibinasuu's one piece adventure in japan
Part 2 — Meeting the Straw Hats in Kumamoto
[ Part 1 ]
It's a no-brainer that the ultimate place to experience all things One Piece is the very country where it originated—Japan.
You will find a lot of One Piece stuff wherever you are in Japan, but if there is one prefecture you should visit as a One Piece fan, it would be Kumamoto Prefecture.
Kumamoto Prefecture is located in the Kyushu region, in the southwestern part of Japan. Kumamoto itself is very rich in nature and culture, and is a nice, peaceful getaway from the busy cities. The prefecture also happens to be the hometown of One Piece's author, Eiichiro Oda.
If you're coming from overseas, the easiest way to get to Kumamoto is probably by flying into Fukuoka International Airport. From there, it's a short 5-minute subway ride away to Hakata Station, where you can take a 30-40 minute Shinkansen ride to Kumamoto Station. Alternatively, if you have a lot of luggage or prefer a more budget-friendly option, you could take a scenic 2-hour bus ride from Fukuoka Airport or the Hakata/Tenjin Bus Terminals. From Tokyo, the easiest and cheapest way would be to take a direct flight to Kumamoto Airport.
If you're getting there via Shinkansen, you will immediately be greeted by huge posters of the Straw Hats at the station, advertising the Kumamoto Revival Project. This project is actually the main reason why I decided to visit Kumamoto on my trip this time!
Tumblr media
Kumamoto prefecture was hit by a massive earthquake in 2016, which caused a lot of casualties, infrastructure damage, and economic loss. Oda, who was born and raised in Kumamoto, donated a huge amount of money to help with the recovery efforts. To thank him for his contributions, the prefecture installed a bronze Luffy Statue in front of the Kumamoto Prefectural Office in 2018. Then, over the next few years, statues of the rest of the Straw Hats were installed all across the prefecture.
The statues are such a great and fun way to see the prefecture, as you will have to travel to nine different municipalities to see them all!
If you don't have the time to visit all of the statues, you can at least visit Luffy and Chopper! They are both located within Kumamoto City and can easily be accessed via public transportation.
For the rest of the Straw Hats, I highly, highly recommend booking a tour. The reason is that some of these statues are located in quite remote places, which may be difficult to find even if you have a rental car. If you don't have a car, I'd say it's nearly impossible to see them all in only a day or two.
If you search "One Piece Statues Kumamoto Tour", there are plenty of options for you to choose from! My tour included visits to eight of the statues, minus Luffy and Chopper, whom I went to visit by myself the day before.
Before visiting the statues, I downloaded the IKOU app, which has a digital stamp rally. It's unfortunately only available in Japanese, but it's pretty straightforward! You need to turn on your locations, and a notification will pop up on the app when you are near each statue, so you can claim your stamp and a free phone wallpaper. I visited all of the statues, but I missed the Robin stamp because I forgot to claim it 😭😭 (In my defense, it was storming and I was struggling with my umbrella being wrecked by the strong wind)
Tumblr media
I started my first full day in Kumamoto by visiting Chopper in front of the Kumamoto Zoo and Botanical Gardens. It was raining so hard, and no one was around because apparently, the zoo was closed on Mondays. The statue itself was still accessible as it was in front of the zoo, so you don't need to go inside it. However, if you are looking to buy the exclusive Chopper figurine and get his collectible card, you'd be out of luck because they are sold at the zoo's ticket office!
Tumblr media
There are shops near each of the statues that sell mini figurines that you could only get at that location. Each shop has different opening hours and days off, so check them if you wish to buy the figurines!! Learn from my mistake, folks!
Since I failed to obtain the Chopper figurine, I abandoned my quest to buy all 10 of the Straw Hats because I think I couldn't stand it if I had the whole collection and only missing one! I caved and still got Luffy, though.
Tumblr media
Aside from the figurine, you could also get free collectible cards at the shops. Unfortunately, the contents are only available in Japanese, but of course, they still make for a great souvenir! They're filled with information on the statues' locations, the earthquake recovery projects that went on in the area, as well as some information on tourist destinations and local products.
However, these cards are not always available and could be out of stock, so don't come in with high hopes that you'd be able to collect them all. When I went, Chopper and Franky were out of stock, but I managed to get all the others! You could check the availability of the cards on the OP Kumamoto Revival Project Twitter/X
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Okay, back to my trip! After visiting Chopper, I went to visit Luffy in front of the Kumamoto Prefectural Office, which was around a half-hour walk away from Chopper. Alternatively, you could also take the bus or the tram.
It was such an incredible moment seeing Luffy, like meeting an old friend. Oda's handprint was embedded at the base of the statue, alongside his signature. I heard that the trees surrounding Luffy are all ginkgo trees, which look especially beautiful with their golden leaves around November!
Tumblr media
After saying bye to Luffy, I stopped by the main branch of Ajisen Ramen, which was right by the prefectural office. The famous ramen originated in Kumamoto, and it was absolutely delicious! It was such a great meal after being in the rain the whole morning, too.
My next stop was Kumamoto Castle, which was definitely not to be missed. The castle was stunning, but one of the things that surprised me was seeing this symbol everywhere. Seems familiar?
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I learned from the museum inside the castle that the symbol is the emblem of the Hosokawa clan, who ruled at Kumamoto Castle at one period of time. As a One Piece fan with only a smidge of knowledge in Japanese history, obviously my first thought just immediately went to the symbol of Bartholomew Kuma's church. It is said that Oda took a lot of inspiration from his hometown for One Piece, and it was so interesting to unexpectedly discover random details like this.
Another inspiration Oda took from his youth in Kumamoto was the restaurant he used to work part-time at: the Baratei, which was obviously an inspiration for the Baratie. The location where Oda actually worked at has been closed down, but the restaurant itself still exists at a different location, and is reportedly still run by the same owner. I didn't eat there because it was quite a fancy place, but if you do, I heard that if you tell the chef that you are One Piece fans, he might bring out a drawing of Sanji that Oda gifted to the restaurant! There's a shabu-shabu restaurant also called the Baratei on the 4th floor of the building, but the one you'd want is the steakhouse on the 2nd floor!
Tumblr media
The day after that was finally the One Piece Statues Tour, a.k.a the grand finale of my Japan trip!
It rained for most of the day, but it was still such an amazing experience, nonetheless. Another good thing about joining a tour is that you get to meet other One Piece fans from around the world! I was nervous at first cause I was travelling solo, but the people in my group were all so nice and the car rides passed by so fast amid chats about One Piece.
The tour started at Higo Ozu station—near the Zoro statue—around 40 minutes away from Kumamoto Station.
The area where Zoro was located was famous for Kendo, and many dojos were destroyed during the earthquake. Zoro was there to help the children of the dojos with their swordsmanship skills!
I love how each of the Straw Hats' locations was so carefully thought out, and it was so interesting to hear the reasons why each Straw Hat was placed where they were.
The Zoro statue was really beautiful and incredibly detailed, and look, he got the heroic pose he wanted during Little Garden! 😂
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The next statue we visited was Robin. She was located at the KIOKU Earthquake Museum, which used to be a site of a university campus. They preserved the conditions from when the earthquake struck and turned it into a museum. Seeing the actual aftereffects of the disaster was devastating, and made it all the more heartwarming to learn about all the efforts to rebuild the prefecture into what it is now. Robin was there to help remind us of history, and to pass on the memories and lessons of the past to the next generations.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Usopp was the next one, and he was located in front of Aso Station. The mountains and grasslands in the surrounding areas were devastated by landslides during the earthquake, and it was practically impossible for humans alone to revitalize it. The only way was to let nature take its time and recover on its own. Usopp was placed there to help the environment recover faster with his Pop Greens!
Tumblr media
We visited Franky next, who was located in front of Takamori Station. The earthquake severed the train tracks and cut Takamori off from the main railroads in the area, and Franky was there to lend a hand in the reconstruction, taking inspiration from Tom's Sea Train.
On weekdays, you could see the Sunny Go Train parked right next to him! On weekends, you could actually ride the train, but the route was a bit out of the way, so I skipped it this time. At the station store, you could buy cookies with a Sunny Go Train-shaped tin. I thought the cookies were mid lol, but the tin was a really great souvenir! There was also a glass bottle cola vending machine, which is quite rare to see in Japan. The cola was out of stock when I went there, sadly, but be sure to get one and toast Franky for me if you're ever there!
Another thing you can download before the tour is this AR app called COCOAR, which will show you some famous lines/scenes from the manga when you point your phone camera at the statues! Of course, Franky got his iconic "SUPER!"
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
After Franky, we had a little pit stop at the Kamishikimi Kumanoimasu Shrine, which was said to be the inspiration behind the film Hotarubi no Mori E (Into the Forest of the Fireflies). The shrine was absolutely beautiful on a rainy day. The way the water cascaded down the stairs, the fog shrouding the forest—it felt so mysterious and fantastical, like you're stepping into the actual anime.
Tumblr media
We had lunch at a rest stop with a lovely view of the Aso mountain range, and then visited Nami. Oh, she was gorgeous! The village where she was located was famous for its windmills, which I think was quite apt for our weather girl. It had become a tradition among visitors to leave some money for Nami, and the base of her statue is littered with coins, not only from Japan but from many parts of the world too! You can also get a huge Nami mikan parfait, which looked really refreshing! I didn't get it, only because I wasn't confident that I could finish it all by myself 😭
Tumblr media Tumblr media
After that, we finally made our way down from the mountainous Aso area into Mashiki Town, the worst-hit area in the disaster. Sanji was located at Mashiki Sports Park, which had become an emergency shelter for months after the disaster. Not far from there was the local school lunch centre that served the town's elementary and junior high schools. The centre was severely damaged during the quake, so Sanji was there to help cook for the students! The dish Sanji was carrying was some kind of seafood rice dish... risotto, or maybe fried rice? Whatever it was, it looked absolutely amazing!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Next was Brook, located in front of Mifune Dinosaur Park….. I know, the skull jokes just practically write themselves 😂 Aside from being known for its fossils, Mifune Town was also the home of Kyushu region's one and only music college, making it a suitable spot for our dear musician. The town also has a "Mifune Brook Music Festival" every year around October, which is so cute!
Brook was probably one of my favorite statues—the pose, the detail... even the AR frame looked amazing! One cool trivia about Brook's statue: apparently, the chord he's playing here is the opening chord to We Are!
Tumblr media
Lastly, we head all the way to the coast to see Jinbe. Apparently, the sunset view is supposed to be stunning there, but it was cloudy when I went 😭
Jinbe was the biggest statue, and another one of my favorites! He was the last of the Straw Hats to be installed, and you can definitely see how the craft and design of the statues have improved. The shop near Jinbe sells all kinds of seaweed products, including mozuku seaweed, which Oda said was Jinbe's favorite food!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Jinbe's statue was a very short drive away from Uto Station, and from there, it was around a 15-minute train ride back to Kumamoto Station.
After arriving at Kumamoto Station, I checked out the Mugiwara Store at AMU Plaza Kumamoto, which was right next door. Since Kumamoto is essentially the holy land of One Piece, of course the store had some limited items, including these Straw Hats snacks and a plushie of the beloved Kumamoto mascot—Kumamon—decked out in Luffy's outfit. There is also a One Piece mural at the lobby of the mall, which looked stunning!
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
The next day, I took the bus back to Fukuoka, and before I knew it, it was already time to fly back home 😭 I had such an amazing two weeks in Japan, and I'm already looking forward to the day I can hopefully go back again!
If you're a One Piece fan, I definitely recommend going to Kumamoto at least once in your life. Maybe avoid the wet season because the weather was horrible lol, but honestly, the best time to go to Japan is whenever you are able to! I still had tons of fun despite the storm, and it sure made it a memorable day.
This post ended up being quite long, but if you've read this far, thank you so much for reading, and I hope you enjoyed taking a virtual trip with me to Kumamoto! I really wished you all could visit it for real with me, it was truly special.
If you've ever been to Kumamoto, pleaseee share your experiences with me, I would love to hear them!! And if you are planning to go to Japan or Kumamoto, feel free to drop in my DMs/inbox if you have any questions, and I'll be happy to help however I can! <3

chibinasuu's one piece adventure in japan
Part 1 — Merch Hunt and the One Piece Shinkansen
[ edit: Part 2 is posted! ]
Hey everyone!! This is long overdue, but I'm finally here to share all about my recent vacation to Japan! Wooooo!
I visited a lot of amazing places, did a lot of amazing things, and ate a lot of amazing food, but since this is a One Piece blog, I figured I'd focus more on the "fangirl" side of the trip and write some sort of story-time-slash-travel-guide(?) based on my experiences that would hopefully be useful for any One Piece fans looking to visit Japan.
So sit back, relax, and let me take you along on a One Piece-filled adventure!
<< click ALT for pic caption >>
I started my journey in Tokyo, and for an anime fan, there is clearly no shortage of shops and experiences that you can find in this city.
But as a One Piece fan specifically, one shop—or five—that you shouldn't miss is the One Piece Mugiwara Store.
They have five locations in Tokyo—Shibuya, Ikebukuro, Harajuku, Tokyo Station, and Odaiba. All of them are major areas of Tokyo, so the best thing is you don't need to get out of your way to visit them, as you'd probably be in the area anyway. The only one I didn't get to visit was the Odaiba store, as it was located in an area that was not part of my itinerary.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
You can find all things One Piece at the stores, from plushies, keychains, t-shirts, totebags, pins, earrings, mugs, stickers, and even devil fruit-shaped candies! I spent an embarrassing amount of time at these stores, browsing all of the little trinkets while nodding along to the anime opening and ending songs playing nonstop from the speakers. Here are just some of the things I got!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The content of each store is generally the same, with the exception of the Harajuku store, which carries more store-limited items. However, if you're a stamp collector like me, it might be worth visiting all the stores just to get the stamps! Plus, they're also worth visiting to admire the details and easter eggs in each store's designs, as well as taking pics of the different life-sized figures.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
If you only have time to visit one or a couple of the stores, I'd suggest visiting the main store in Shibuya, where you could take a pic with the iconic Shanks statue giving away his straw hat. The Harajuku store is also a unique one, with a pretty pastel decor, some cute limited items, and the adorable Harajuku Chopper statue.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
One of the details I love about the Mugiwara Store is that all prices are listed in Berries, and at the cash registers, they had a sign that said 1 Berry = 1 Japanese Yen. Even the cashiers will tell you your totals in Berries instead of Yen! I just thought that was a really cool detail that made me realize just how much thought and love they put into these stores.
Tumblr media
Another unique store you might want to check out if you're in the Ginza area is Primaniacs. Ever wondered what your anime husband/wife smells like? Look no further cause you'll find all sorts of character-inspired perfumes here! They had perfumes for just about any popular anime you could think of, which you could check out on their website.
I was honestly impressed by how on point the scents are—the creators definitely did their research! When I took a sniff of the Sanji one, I immediately went "yep, that's Sanji alright". It smelled light and musky, with just a little hint of tobacco. I also really liked the Luffy one, which smelled fruity and fresh! The Law one… I don't know how else to describe it other than "clean". They were all honestly so good, but personally, I thought they smelled too masculine for me to use. I contemplated buying the Nami one, which has this amazing citrusy scent that was just my style, but I held back in the end cause it was quite pricey! (Now I'm kinda regretting not getting it tbh 😔)
Aside from their main store in Ginza, some of their popular products are also available at the Animate stores, and some of the One Piece ones are available at the Mugiwara Stores.
Tumblr media
Here are some other stores you should check out in Japan as an anime fan. The ones I listed here are big chain stores that you should be able to find not only in Tokyo, but in most of the major cities as well!
Jump Shop — You can find merch from all the popular Shonen Jump manga/anime here. One Piece, Naruto, Bleach, Jojo's, Hunter x Hunter, Demon Slayer, Sakamoto Days, DanDaDan… you name it!
Tumblr media
Animate — They have all sorts of merch from a very wide selection of anime/manga. Their biggest store is at Ikebukuro, which has a whopping eleven floors of animanga goods. However, they don't carry a lot of One Piece, so if you're specifically looking for One Piece merch, go to the Mugiwara Store! I got these cute Nyan Piece blind box figurines at Animate, though, and I'm obsessed!!
Tumblr media
Lashinbang and Book Off — These two specialize in second-hand items, but are the holy grail if you're looking for figures and card games. They sell them at really affordable prices, and the items are still mainly in mint condition. Despite being a second-hand store, you may find that a lot of the boxes are still marked as "unopened", which is kinda the same as being brand new! If the boxes or items inside happen to be damaged, they are also transparent in detailing them on the label. I got this amazing Hana-Hana no Mi night light for such a bargain price at Book Off!
Tumblr media
When in Japan, make sure to be on the lookout for random anime collabs in convenience stores or grocery stores too. When I was there, One Piece was collaborating with Mintia, a popular Japanese mint candy company. I love this brand, so of course I had to stock up on the ones with One Piece packaging! I love these One Piece gummies too, which you can also find at convenience stores. Each one has random cards/stickers inside of them!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
If you're going to Japan in the near future, you may also get a chance to ride on the One Piece Shinkansen! The train runs from Osaka all the way to Fukuoka on certain schedules, which you could check on the website. It's not specified until when the trains will run, but the site has schedules up to the end of September 2025 so far!
I managed to catch the OP Shinkansen from Hiroshima to Fukuoka. There are three train designs that would be assigned at random, and I happened to get the Chopper train! It was so cute, and I spent a lot of time on the ride just going from one end of the train to the other to catch all of the little details in the design.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
I then spent a couple of nights in Fukuoka, which is honestly my favorite city in Japan. It's quite a big city, but not as overcrowded as Tokyo. The food was amazing, there are lots of interesting sightseeing spots, and there are also some really great day-trips that you could take by being based in Fukuoka, which is the biggest city in Kyushu.
If you're an anime fan, the two main shopping destinations you should be looking at in Fukuoka are PARCO Tenjin—home of the Fukuoka Mugiwara Store and Animate—and Canal City Hakata—where you can find the Jump Shop, and a huge Bandai Namco Store for all your gacha, plamo, figures, and card games needs.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
My last stop in Japan was Kumamoto, which was the only destination I visited mainly because of One Piece, and it was definitely one of the highlights of my trip!
I'm pretty sure some of you One Piece fans already know what's so special about Kumamoto, but honestly, I'm still super excited to share my experience with you cause it truly was an unforgettable one!
I’ll have to tell you all about it in part 2, though, as it would probably be too long to include here. So stay tuned!!

reverse ask game
🃏💓
-wh 🍩
Why hello there, thanks for the asks!! 🍩 <3
🃏 - Who has the Best Hat? (the true question)
I love Shachi's orca hat!! Penguin's hat with the little penguin pom pom is also really cute 🥺
And a massive shoutout to Charlotte Amande, my divaaaa
Tumblr media Tumblr media
💓 - Which character do you relate to the most?
I think personality-wise, I'm most similar to Robin. We're both introverted and tend to be on the quieter/reserved side, but will show a more carefree side once we get closer to people. Like Robin, I love learning and reading, and have an interest in history and ancient mysteries. My friends also like to joke that I'm the mom of the group, which is kinda what Robin is like to the Straw Hats 😂

Hitting you with the uno reverse ask!!
If you could, please answer the following: 🔫 🎾☔️ !!
Thanks for the asks Pari!! <3
🔫 - Fave canon arc?
I already answered this as a reply to your post lmao but Water 7/Enies Lobby!! (please let me count them as one arc)
As you also said, it was the first time we ever saw the Straw Hats having a serious internal conflict, and I think they grew so much as a crew throughout the entire arc. The build up in Water 7, the tension on the sea train, followed by an explosive finale in Enies Lobby is just sooo thrilling. The shooting of the government flag, the “I want to live!” scene, Merry coming to save them and everyone jumping into the sea… AUGHHH I can go on with all the things I love about this arc 😭
🎾 - Fave battle?
Oh, it’s hard to choose!
I love Luffy v Katakuri. Even though it dragged on for so long, especially in the anime, I loved the payoff at the end. This was probably the first fight Luffy had where he was helpless to the point where he couldn’t even land a single hit on his enemy at first. It was so satisfying to see Luffy adapt and grow throughout the fight, and eventually learned to upgrade his observation haki. Katakuri is my favorite out of all of Luffy’s opponents—the way he admitted his defeat honorably and with dignity really left an impression!
Honorable mention goes to Law and Kid v Big Mom in Onigashima!
☔️ - Scene that made you cry the most? (not necessarily the saddest scene)
Most recently, the end of Kuma’s backstory… I don’t remember the last time I cried that much watching an anime episode.
Oh but I also recently rewatched Water 7/Enies Lobby and cried buckets, non-stop, from when Merry came to save the crew at the end of EL until her funeral.
Whole Cake Island Arc probably holds the record of most episodes where I cried. There are just too many painful and emotional scenes.

hihi rin!! here in your askbox for the op game!! may i pretty please ask: 🐼 ,😕 ,😏,👂and 🙇 for... ichiji :3
Hiya Hash!! Thanks for the asks 😘
🐼 - Fave side character?
I recently rewatched Water 7/Enies Lobby and fell in love all over again with Paulie! He's a really great character, and I love his fighting style. The first time I watched W7, I thought he was going to be the new nakama lmaoo that's how much of a stand out he was to me!
Dadan holds a special space in my heart. Bless her for loving and caring for Ace, Sabo, and Luffy like her own.
Honorable mentions: Izou and Wyper (a.k.a fine men that deserves a lot more screen time)
😕 - Scariest character?
I've always been terrified of Big Mom aksdjasldj she's a nightmare. Her raw power and the hunger pangs are no joke, I would not want to cross her.
Imu also gives me the creeps, mainly because of the mystery of it all. I get chills whenever they appear!
😏 - Favorite scene?
I have a lot. It's so hard to choose.
There's one in Wano that is my absolute favorite, but I'm not gonna say cause I know you're still in the middle of it 🤭
The scene I probably rewatch the most is Luffy's speech to Sanji at Whole Cake Island, where he told him "without you, I can't become King of the Pirates". It's such an emotional scene, and Luffy's VA delivered so so well. That scene also has one of my favorite bgm in One Piece! Never fails to make me tear up.
👂 - Favorite quote?
"No one is born into this world to be alone." - Jaguar D. Saul
🙇 - A headcanon about Ichiji
Trying to come up with a non-angsty headcanon for once…. I think Ichiji is the biggest nerd out of all the Vinsmoke siblings. He just hides it well behind his stoic wall. He’d read the “Sora, Warrior of the Sea” comics and send anonymous letters to the publishers with a rant about the inaccuracies of Sparking Red’s suit and battle moves.

>:3c why hello there, rin. it is, i, NYLA and i've come with op ask game asks ⛵️, 🙇 (asl brothers or nami, your pick uwu), 🍎,🍏,🙏
Oh hiya there Nyla!! Thanks for the asks <3
⛵️ - Fave pirate ship? (like boat ship)
I have to say the Polar Tang! I love that it's a submarine, which really fits Law's vibe. I also like that it is essentially a fully functioning hospital. It was too bad that [redacted due to spoilers but you know what I mean]. I would’ve loved to see more of the inside, maybe even a blueprint? (Oda pls)
Alsooo I know it’s not exactly a pirate ship, but I’m really fond of the Baratie! A floating restaurant shaped like a fish?? What's not to love!
🙇 - A headcanon about Nami
I think Nami loves drawing maps outdoors rather than indoors. She’ll take her map-making equipment outside and set up a low table under the shades of her mikan trees. She likes to feel the breeze and fresh air, so it doesn’t remind her of the stuffy old room Arlong put her in.
🍎 - Fave Devil Fruit power?
Law’s Ope Ope no Mi is so broken but also so cool at the same time. It just has so many wildly different techniques that it’s exciting whenever we see Law fight, you never know what he’ll do next!
Marco’s Phoenix fruit is another favorite! It looks sick as hell, and I love the regeneration and healing aspects of it. (marco please carry me into the night sky inside your warm wings of blue flames… pls…)
🍏 - Would you eat a Devil Fruit if you had the chance to?
Ooooh, I don't think I would, actually! It would be awesome to have a Devil Fruit power, but I love swimming too much to ever give it up 😅
🙏 - Favorite episode?
I'm sure this is a common answer, but 1015 really left an impression for me!
The direction, the animation style, the music!! Everything is just perfect. Megumi Ishitani, my goat, I bow to thee 🙏
Not to mention, it adapted chapter 1000, which I think was such a peak chapter.
Tumblr media
Recently, 1136 (last ep of Kuma flashback) was also a standout. I think they adapted the panels so beautifully, and I cried sooo hard 😭

ooo i love your one piece ask game! it looks like so much fun! can i ask 👀 fav eyecatcher and ™️ how has one piece changed you? i’m so interested to hear your answers :)
Hi hi thanks for the ask! This is indeed a fun one!
👀 - Fave eyecatcher?
Ooooh, I really like the telescope ones we get during the Water 7-Marineford-ish era. Franky's leitmotif/theme song was my favorite of all the Straw Hats, and of course I always adore Sanji in his Water 7 outfit!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Honorable mention goes to this one! I love how the items on the table change to reflect each member of the Straw Hats!
Tumblr media
™️ - How has One Piece changed you?
I think One Piece has definitely helped me regain my inner child. Especially now that I'm in my mid-20s, it's so freeing to still have something that I'm so excited about. It’s great to have something to look forward to amid all the adulting that I need to do. One Piece reminded me that it’s okay to be a dreamer and keep your child-like wonder no matter how old I get!
One Piece, in a way, encouraged me to go after what I want, to not be afraid to try new things, to go on adventures. I recently went on a 2-week solo trip to Japan, partly for One Piece-related reasons, and I think I wouldn't have the courage to do that before. (I’m gonna post a story time about this soon!)
One Piece is also the first fandom where I'm quite active in the online community. I was always just the silent observer in other fandoms I'm in, but One Piece is simply too interesting to not yap about it on the internet 😂 It feels nice to finally participate in fandom discussions and talk about our beloved characters with all of you lovely people here! I'm so glad I reopened tumblr and finally started posting instead of just scrolling!

🙅😱🔎
Ooooh you're asking some difficult questions here Anon!
🙅 - Least favorite Straw Hat?
Sorry, I know this is such a non-answer, but I don't have a least favorite Straw Hat!! I literally can't choose cause I love them all so much lol
😱 - Most attractive character?
If you follow me, then you'd know I'm a Sanji girlie 😂 But if we're talking the most attractive character looks-wise.... I'd say Katakuri, King, and Izou! Also… young Shakky… one chance please 🙏🏻
🔍 - What do you think the One Piece is?
Hmm... I've never really thought much or read theories about it, mainly because I want to still be surprised when it is actually revealed in the manga. Although, I do think that the One Piece may be something that could unite the world as "one piece" in some way.
Oda sometimes refers to the One Piece (as in the treasure) as ひとつなぎの大秘宝 or "hitotsunagi no daihihō" in Japanese, which kinda roughly means "the great hidden treasure, in one piece" (not sure if this is an acceptable translation lol please cmiiw)
I've always found it interesting that Oda didn't use kanji for "hitotsunagi" and instead just wrote it in hiragana. Now, if we assign the kanji 「人繋ぎ」 for "hitotsunagi", the meaning of the phrase could become "the great hidden treasure that connects people", and I think that's neat!
As for what the treasure actually is, I have no idea!

Money and Tangerines | Nami x Reader
Part of the Thousand Sunny Slice-of-Life Series
Find the other parts with the rest of the Straw Hats here
Summary: You and Nami sort out the crew's budget under the shade of her tangerine trees as the Sunny approaches a new island Word count: 792  Tags: one-shot, pure fluff, domestic bliss onboard the sunny, platonic straw hat pirates x reader, main pairing could be interpreted as platonic or romantic, no use of y/n, GN but written with F!Reader in mind
Tumblr media
You look at the numbers on the Straw Hat Crew’s finance logbook, slowly being filled with dread as you put your head in your hands.
“Nami...” You started hesitantly, “We’re broke.”
Nami sighed loudly, but you swear you could hear a hint of a smile as she replied, “Well, that’s not exactly news, is it?”
Nami went back to watering her tangerine trees, while you return to calculating the meager amount of Berries that your crew has left.
You and Nami usually sort out the crew’s finances inside the library, but today she took your hand and practically dragged you outside as she said, “Don’t you think it’s a waste to be inside when we have such perfect weather today?”
So that’s how you ended up at a picnic table on the Sunny’s upper deck, shaded from the sun by Nami’s tangerine trees. A slow breeze picked up, offering reprieve from the heat.
Nami told you yesterday that the ship has entered an island’s climate, likely a summer one, and just this morning, Usopp shouted “Land ho!” as he pointed out the barely visible stretch of land on the horizon. It would still take the ship around a day to reach the island, but Usopp was positive that he saw a town when he stole a look with his spyglass.
Landing at town usually means Luffy, Zoro, and Chopper going off on an ‘adventure’ the second Sunny touches the port. They will likely get lost, but you always find them eventually, often at a restaurant, ordering way more food and booze than they could actually afford.
Sanji takes care of groceries, while Franky and Usopp resupply necessities for the ship. Robin, Brook, or Jinbei – the three most seasoned pirates of the crew – are usually the ones who offer to stay behind and watch the Sunny, content to leave the exploring to their younger crewmates.
As for you, well, more often than not, you find yourself trailing beside the orange-haired girl as she enters store after store, finding items to fill her already overflowing wardrobe. You usually opted to just window shop, not buying anything unless absolutely necessary, but Nami always managed to swindle some poor shopkeeper into giving her huge discounts after some harmless flirting (or resorting to not-so-subtle threats if that fails).
That is to say, landing at town means spending some Berries, and it’s up to you and Nami to sort out a budget to make sure the crew doesn’t go overboard with their purchases.
You sighed again as your thumb and forefinger flicked through the banknotes, setting aside the proper amount needed for groceries. You know Sanji is more on the financially-responsible side among the crew, but his self-restraint may have crumbled once or twice before whenever he saw the rare, not to mention exceptionally pricey, Blue-Finned Elephant Tuna at the fishmonger. You had to admit the damn fish was delicious though, so you’re not exactly complaining.
“Oh, cheer up! I’m sure we’ll figure this out.” Nami said as she poked your cheek playfully and took a seat next to you, “We always do, don’t we?”
She put on her reading glasses and leaned over to scan the logbook, her nimble fingers absentmindedly peeling the ripe tangerine that she just plucked from her tree.
She took the pencil from you and crossed out a few items off the shopping list efficiently, muttering a series of nope’s, nuh-uh’s, and we-still-have-enough-of-that’s. You also offered your inputs, pointing out which items seemed unnecessary at the moment, and which ones could be replaced with a lower-cost alternative.
The sun slowly dipped into the horizon as you and Nami got lost in your discussion, often going off on a tangent while munching on some tangerines, before ultimately getting back to the task at hand.
You stretched your arms above your head with a groan as you two finally finished divvying up the crew’s allowance. Nami brought the last wedge of her tangerine up to your lips, and you leaned forward to accept it.
“Told ya we’d figure it out!” She chimed with a big smile on her face.
The sound of footsteps approaching caught your attention, and you saw the telltale moss-colored hair of the swordsman peeking out as he ascended the stairs to the upper deck.
“Oi, Curly said dinner’s almost ready.” Zoro called out.
“Be right there!” Nami cheerfully replied.
She got up and plucked a few more tangerines from her tree, handing over a couple to you, “C’mon, let’s get Sanji-kun to make some dessert with these!”
Nami excitedly linked her arm with yours and headed towards the dining room. You eagerly followed her lead, already looking forward to the fresh, citrusy delicacy that will surely grace the dinner table tonight.
a/n: it’s canon that luffy is reckless with money so i sometimes think about how broke the straw hats must be lmao. yet they always seemed to manage somehow and i think that must've come down to nami’s super efficient and tight money management. we love our economical queen 👌🏻

The Sweet Scent of Tobacco | Sanji x Reader
Summary: You hated the smell of cigarettes. You never thought there would be a time that you miss it. Tags: sfw, f!reader, no use of y/n, spoilers for zou-wano
Tumblr media
You despised the smell of cigarettes.
That acrid tang of burnt tobacco, and that stale, musty odor that clung to every surface long after the light died—there were not many things that smelled more unpleasant to your nose.
And yet here you were, leaning against the railing of the Polar Tang's deck, a cigarette awkwardly slotted between your middle and pointer fingers in a poor imitation of what you saw a certain chainsmoking chef do every single day.
You stared at the lit end of the cigarette, the tiny ember glowing against the darkness of the ocean. A wisp of smoke curled towards the night sky, bringing along that smell—albeit a lot more subdued than a smoker's exhale—that you hated so much.
You didn't smoke it. You never had the urge, plus, Chopper would kick your ass if you did, but you supposed secondhand smoke wasn't much better either.
"I didn't know you smoked."
A low voice came from behind you. Too preoccupied with your thoughts, you didn't even hear the ship's Captain approaching you.
"I don't." You chuckled humorlessly, "I guess I just… miss the smell."
Your host didn't inquire further. Instead, he said, "Dinner is served. Come in whenever you're ready."
"Thanks, Torao."
He scoffed, "Don't call me that."
You heard his footsteps padding away from you. The door to the inside of the yellow submarine creaked on its hinges, then clicked shut, and suddenly it was silent again.
You stayed outside for a few more minutes until the cigarette burned out, taking a deep breath before you joined your companions at the dining hall.
If your crewmates saw you that night clutching a familiar tobacco-infused dress shirt to your chest as you slept, they didn't comment on it.
Tumblr media
For the first month or so after you joined the Straw Hat Pirates, Sanji thought you hated him.
"Why do you never spend time with me?" He slurred one night after one too many glasses of wine, "You always run away after I give you afternoon snacks. You never sit next to me during meals."
His blue eyes brimmed with tears, lips quivering as he whispered, "Do you hate me?"
Your eyes widened, "No, Sanji, of course not!"
Quite the opposite, really, you added silently.
Sure, the tobacco smell that always accompanied him never felt pleasant to you, but that was not the only reason you had not been spending as much time with Sanji as you would have liked.
In the short time that you had been sailing with the Straw Hats, you had found yourself inexplicably drawn to the chef with a heart as golden as his hair. Truth to be told, it had become quite a struggle to be around him with the way your heart threatened to jump out of your chest anytime he was near.
A pout was still visible on Sanji's lips as you stammered out a pathetic explanation of how you could never stand the smell of cigarettes for as long as you could remember.
"Sorry," you smiled sheepishly, face burning with embarrassment, "I definitely didn't mean it to seem like I was avoiding you."
The frown on Sanji's face turned upside down at your confession, his whole face still bright red from the alcohol, and maybe from something else too.
"So, you don't hate me?"
You shook your head, "I could never hate you, Sanji."
He let out a relieved chuckle before passing out.
Tumblr media
Sanji tried to quit smoking after that.
The keyword being: "tried".
You even saw him exchanging his vice for lollipops once, gnawing on the stick long after the candy melted, just to have something between his lips.
He gave up and opened a fresh pack of cigarettes a couple of days later.
You watched his blissful face for a while as he inhaled the earthy blend of tobacco for the first time in days, before walking over to him. Ever the gentleman, Sanji immediately snubbed out his cigarette when he noticed your approach.
"You don't have to quit smoking because of me, you know."
"I know," he sighed, "I just don't want you to be uncomfortable around me."
You smiled, "Believe it or not, I'm getting used to the smell anyway."
You nudged your shoulder against his, "But I'm still gonna remind you that smoking is bad for you! By the time you're 40, you'd be known as Blacklung Sanji!"
His laughter boomed across the deck at your mediocre attempt at a joke, "I'll keep that in mind, sweetheart."
So, no, Sanji didn't stop smoking, but he did make an effort to minimize the smell for your sake.
He bought fragrant soaps to scrub his hands after smoking. He left his suit jackets to hang in the wind out on the deck. He changed shirts after some of his longer smoke breaks, even if that meant he had to do twice the amount of laundry.
And the more you got used to sharing a space with the blond chef, the more your heart danced whenever he smiled at you. The more your face burned whenever he showered you with compliments. The more your stomach filled with butterflies whenever his fingers brushed yours.
The more your heart ached when you arrived at Zou and found out that Sanji had left to marry an Emperor's daughter.
Tumblr media
You poured a generous amount of chilled sake into two cups, handing one over to your raven-haired companion.
The view of the sky from the balcony of Oden Castle was beautiful. It was a cloudless night, with countless stars dotting every inch of the horizon.
You clinked your cup with Robin's and downed its contents.
After a moment of deliberation, you took a cigarette out of the pack you stole from Sanji's abandoned bag on Zou before you left for Wano.
"Do you mind if I light this?"
The archaeologist smiled, "No, go ahead."
You flicked a lighter—also one of Sanji's—and let the tip of the cigarette catch fire.
Only the faint chirps of crickets could be heard as the familiar aroma filled the air between you.
Sensing your ever-present unease, Robin mused, "He must've had his reasons."
"I know." You sighed, "And I know he'll be back. He promised to in his letter. Not to mention Luffy and the others are coming to get him."
You let your head fall onto Robin's shoulder, "I'm just tired of not knowing what's happening over there."
Robin gently caressed your hair, "He'll be here before you know it."
You tried to believe her.
Tumblr media
The click-clack of your hurried, geta-clad footsteps echoed through the empty streets of the Flower Capital.
You had just returned from your intensive kunoichi training with Shinobu when Usopp greeted you with an excited, "They're here!"
Three days. He'd been in Wano for three whole days, and you didn't have a clue.
The stalls that lined the streets were all vacant, but still, your head whipped back and forth as you scanned their signboards to find the one that you were looking for.
Usopp told you that the soba shop was a big hit, and the cook insisted on serving everyone in line even until well after what was supposed to be the closing hour.
Your nose found it before your eyes did.
A savory and umami scent wafted from the humble stall. It smelled like the sea, owing to the kelp and bonito flakes that made up the base of the broth. But underneath that, you could also pick up an almost imperceptible scent of burnt tobacco and smoke mixed in with the complex aroma.
And there he was.
He was alone, the last of his customers already retiring for the night. The bright yellow-and-white stripes of his yukata stood out in the dark as he dried some freshly-washed bowls, readying them to feed more hungry guests the next day.
Sanji looked up, the half-smoked cigarette falling out of his mouth when he noticed who his visitor was.
He stepped outside of his stall, eyes boring into you as if he couldn't believe you were really here.
Your lips formed his name, but no sound came out, held back by the tightness in your throat. So, without a word, you leaped forward, enveloping him in a crushing embrace.
You could feel Sanji's heartbeat quicken underneath your touch. His arms fumbled around for a moment before cautiously settling around your back. When you didn't show any signs of letting go, Sanji allowed his hold to grow tighter, pulling you in until every inch of you was flush against him.
There were a million things that he wanted to say to you—how he missed you, how sorry he was for leaving, how glad he was that you were okay… but the only thing he managed to choke out was, "I-I, uh, probably smell like cigarettes."
You inhaled the scent that emanated from him. That scent you once avoided so much, had unknowingly become a source of comfort and warmth.
"You smell like you, Sanji." You chuckled, "And I love it. I missed it."
You took a shaky breath as you suddenly felt tears building in your eyes, lining your lashes as you looked up into his eyes, "I missed you. So much."
"Oh, sweetheart," He sighed, his fingers lightly brushing your hair, "Believe me, there wasn't a moment that I was away that I did not think of you."
You didn't miss the way his eyes flickered to your lips amid the charged silence that followed, and you found yourself inching closer in anticipation.
He leaned in—slowly, carefully—giving you all the time in the world to back away should you choose to.
Feeling emboldened and impatient, you surged forward and closed the gap yourself, finally connecting your lips to his.
Sanji all but melted in your arms, clutching tight to the silky fabric of your kimono as if he never wanted to let go ever again.
Your lips parted as his hands moved to cup your cheeks, angling your face to kiss you deeper.
He tasted like cigarettes—sharp, smoky, and stale.
And yet, it was the sweetest thing you had ever tasted.

a/n: hey y'allll i'm baaaaccckkkk 🥳 it feels good to actually finish something after months of not writing anything 😅 i initally only wrote the first part of this fic as a warm-up drabble to get back into writing, but i liked how it turned out, so i decided to continue it and post it as a full-length fic! this was inspired by my own hatred of cigarette smell—it's so strange that my favorite character is sanji, when i know if i met him irl i wouldn't even come within five feet of him because i knoooww that man stinks of cigarettes 😭 but anyway, i hope you enjoyed this!! as always, comments and reblogs are appreciated <3
taglist: i don't actually have a taglist but nyla, this one's for you 😂 @softlypaintedseafoam (feel free to let me know if anyone else wants to be tagged!)

Get to know your mutuals!
Thanks to the lovely @armiliadawn for the tag 💕
Favorite Colors: Blue! I love pretty much all shades of blue, from navy to sky blue and everything in between
Currently Reading: "A Torch Against the Night" by Sabaa Tahir, which is the second book in the "An Ember in the Ashes" series. I remember the series being quite popular back in the day, and so far, it does live up to the glowing reviews! Another book I'm reading is "The Convenience Store by the Sea" by Sonoko Machida, a lovely collection of interconnected short stories revolving around a convenience store in the port town of Mojiko
Last Song: I've been listening to the Hamilton cast album while I work today, and "Non-Stop" is playing as I'm writing this
Last Film: The new "How to Train Your Dragon" live action! The original was one of my favorite animated films of all time, and the live action, while kinda unnecessary, was still pretty fun to watch
Sweet/Salty/Sour: Hmm... I do love sweets for desserts, but I tend to stay away from overly sweet things. For snacks, I prefer salty stuff (bonus points if they're crunchy!)
Tea or Coffee: Both, I guess? I make myself an iced black coffee almost every afternoon to fuel me while I work, but I also really enjoy Chinese and Japanese teas. Oh, and I absolutely love cold barley tea!
Working On: Nothing for now! I'm currently still sifting through my past WIPs and story ideas, trying to get a sense of which ones I'm in the mood to write next. My inbox is also open if any of you have any story ideas!

Oh wow, thank you so much for 500 followers!! 😍🥹🥳
I know I’ve been MIA for quite a while, but I swear I have a reason for that 😭😂 Work has been super busy, plus I was spending much of my free time the past couple of months researching and preparing for a trip to Japan!
I just returned from my 2-week vacation, and it may take a minute for me to catch up with work and getting back into my routine, but I’m hoping to start writing and posting again soon!
I’m also excited to share all about my trip! I visited a few cities in Japan this time round, but one of my destinations that I really want to share with you all is Kumamoto, a.k.a Eiichiro Oda's hometown, a.k.a the One Piece holy land
I’ll make a post about all things One Piece I encountered while I was in Kumamoto, as well as in some of the other cities I visited, so stay tuned <3
