Finally able to post my piece for the @billfordzine !! Its been so long that my style is pretty outdated, but im still really proud of how big of a project I was able to finish and I love how it turned out. It was so much fun seeing what everyone else came up with, and seeing my own drawings in a printed hardcover book is so cool. Thanks so much for the whole team putting it together in such a timely manner and being so professional about it.

MarTim was the realest in s3 honestly.

Like Tim had lost his brother. He'd lost Sasha. He'd dropped his whole 'flirty chaotic bisexual' method he used to manipulate the researchers into giving him info about the circus. He hated Jon. He didn't even want to try with Melanie and Basira. He just wanted to sleep all the time.

But Martin was one of the few people he had left to lose. Someone who he considered a friend who was in this with him and hadn't died or betrayed him. We dont see a lot of their relationship, the tapes don't turn on around them and Tim obviously wasn't keen to record. But from their interactions it seems like Martin was looking after Tim just as much as he was trying to be there for Jon. Tim was willing to be slightly more civil to Martin and his attempts to make him and Jon reconcile, would apologize for snapping at him when he did.

And then we learn in Epiphany that Tim was like. Not adverse to the idea of hooking up with him?? Like right away he was like 'yeah im down :3' and while that could have been the same seduction tactic he used with researchers and his follow ups, what reason would Tim have to have Martin in his pocket like that? Maybe he was actually just flattered by the idea of it, and was down to give it a try.

Add this with what I said above and its like. Damn. The last person in the world you give enough of a shit about to lose but also dont actively despise, who you maybe thought about dating at one point, and he's simping for fucking Jon.

Thinking about the title “The Magnus Archives” in light of what we learn. At first it’s just, there’s this institute called the Magnus Institute and the story is set in the archives. Fine. But then no, Magnus isn’t just a random name or a random historical figure. He is one of the main characters. The show is named after Elias. But it’s also more than that because Jon IS the archive.

Jon is Magnus’s Archive.

I think the tma characters generally Know about contemporary queer labels and identities, they're really not that old and jon uses language like "male presenting" and georgie and melanie have jobs that require them to be very on social media. it's not out of the question that any of them might have pride stickers on their laptops or would introduce themselves with their pronouns if they thought the social situation was relaxed and gay enough. the important and beautiful thing to remember is that this does not preclude any of them from having extremely weird internalized queerphobia and very repressed relationships with their gender and sexuality, because I am a young adult in the year of our lord two thousand and twenty five and I know plenty of people with those exact problems. jon can know what the colors on the asexual flag mean and be casual friends with trans people and still turn around and say "well my issues with sex and my body are because I'm uhhh a fucked up little freak? probably?" and that wouldn't be any contradiction. you don't need to temporally lock him into a mid 90s understanding of queerness, he can be the pinnacle of a modern man and have issues aplenty. x
