Nigerian Oil Industry Shows Promising Signs with Rising Prices

After founding Millenium Oil & Gas Company Limited, Chiedu Ebie served as a part-time co-manager for five years while practicing law. In 2010, Chiedu Ebie became the CEO of the operation, which operates a marginal oil field in the Niger Delta area of Nigeria. In 2016, Nigeria set a benchmark of $38 per barrel when calculating its budget, but prices began increasing in early April and continue to rise. All major suppliers have experienced increases in barrel prices with top prices nearing $45 per barrel toward the end of the month after several weeks of consistent gains. The global oil industry shows signs of overcoming its oil surplus with prices also rising in Asia. Crude futures, market experts say, are on track for solid gains as 2016 progresses. With Nigeria already realizing the effects of these gains, the future looks bright as the country once again takes its place as a central global supplier. Reuters reported that current barrel prices are already more than two-thirds the value of the lows at the beginning of the year, which has inspired trader confidence and encouraged investors to feed new money into the market.

Governor Okowa Appoints Chiedu Ebie and 11 Others to Commissioner Role

An accomplished lawyer and business leader, Chiedu Ebie previously practiced commercial law at the Nigerian firm Punuka Attorneys & Solicitors and served as managing director of Millenium Oil & Gas Company Limited. Since July 2015, he has served Delta State, Nigeria, as minister of basic and secondary education. On June 25, 2015, Nigerian Governor Ifeanyi Okowa submitted to the State House of Assembly his 12 nominees to fill the government’s commissioner positions. House Speaker Monday Igbuya read the 12 names, which included Chiedu Ebie, during the governing body’s proceedings in Asaba. Ibuya instructed the nominees to supply the House of Assembly Clerk’s office with 35 copies of their credentials by June 25, then report to the house of Assembly for a screening on June 30. Following a successful approval process, Governor Okowa swore in the 12 new commissioners, as well as five special advisers, making a firm dedication to truthfulness and transparency in the new administration’s conduct. He called on his new commissioners to fulfill their duties with diligence, honesty, and responsibility and to work with him to prevent corruption in public office. Since taking up his position as state minister of education, Chiedu Ebie has worked to align Delta State’s educational strategies with the governor’s agenda for economic and social development while striving to improve the overall quality of education. In his first year of service, he has launched the redevelopment of three state technical and vocational colleges.

2016 U.S. Grand Prix Announced

Chiedu Ebie is the managing director and CEO of Millennium Oil & Gas Company Limited, a Nigerian exploration and production company. Chiedu Ebie considers himself a Formula 1 motor racing enthusiast and has visited several F1 circuits throughout the world. Formula 1 racing combines the world’s most talented drivers with the most advanced racecar technology. Traditionally, a major auto racing event with a race distance of at least 300 km is called a Grand Prix. An annual F1 Grand Prix is held in various countries throughout the world, with 21 countries holding a Grand Prix in 2016. It was announced on March 9, 2016 that the 2016 U.S. Formula One Grand Prix will be held in Austin, Texas on October 23. Taylor Swift will be performing the day before the race, in her only concert performance of 2016, for at least 100,000 F1 fans. Last year’s performer was Elton John. Tickets to this year’s U.S. Grand Prix go on sale April 6.

The Nigerian Delta State Government Transition Committee

Chiedu Ebie is the Nigerian Delta State’s commissioner of the Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education. Chiedu Ebie was one of 98 people appointed to the Delta State Government Transition Committee in 2015, which was tasked with aiding the new governor’s transition into office. In April 2015, Senator Ifeanyi Okowa, the new Delta state governor-elect, created three interconnected committees to ease the transition to a new administration. The senator made it clear that committee membership was not a fast-track to state executive council membership. Rather, this committee was to be part of his commitment to equity and fairness in governance. The three committees were tasked with working together to facilitate a seamless transition in the Delta state. The Technical Committee on Programme Development/Governance, the Committee on Handover, and the Committee of Night of Praise pooled resources to promote lasting peace and to prepare the state for the introduction of new policies.

Nigerian Bar Association Sponsors Annual Conference in Abuja

Since July 2015, Chiedu Ebie has worked as commissioner for the Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education for Delta State Government in Asaba, Nigeria. While seeking to improve the quality and standard of education within the state, Chiedu Ebie maintains certification through the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA). The Nigerian Bar Association, a nonprofit group, represents all lawyers admitted to the bar in Nigeria. The NBA consists of 109 branches, all of which seek to promote and protect human rights, law, and governance in Nigeria. To promote ideas and keep members abreast of changes made within the law industry, the NBA hosts an annual conference. The 2015 event occurred from August 21 through 28 at the International Conference Centre in Abuja. During the weeklong event, attendees listened to keynote speakers covering topics such as penal and prison reform in the country, public perception of lawyers, the role of law in international development, and the future of legal education in Nigeria. They also participated in a one-day workshop about fighting corruption in Nigeria during which anti-corruption laws were discussed, as well as inadequate court infrastructure, and the lack of legal assistance from foreign jurisdictions.

When he is not leading the company, Chiedu Ebie enjoys supporting the Manchester United football club as well as the Nigerian national team. To casual fans a game of soccer may appear as two teams of 11 players scattered about a large field, each player making a random play at either the ball or ball handler. In reality, each soccer club implements a carefully designed formation that allows the team to maximize both its offensive and defensive strengths. For example, the 2-3-5 formation represents one of the oldest in the sport, and is often considered to be the first-ever formation to be recognized by the soccer world. Formations are read from the back field to the attacking front, meaning the 2-3-5 formation allows for two defenders to support the goalkeeper, three mid-fielders, and five offensive attackers. As one might imagine, this formation emphasizes an up-tempo style of play that results in high-scoring games. Over the years, however, the sport has turned more toward defense, and the 2-3-5 formation has become impractical. However, the formation was highly influential during its time, and certain teams modified the tactic in favor of even more offense, such as the 2-2-6 and 1-2-7 formations. These have been superseded by defensive formations like the 4-5-1 and 4-3-3.

MotoGP Explains Unexpected Finishes for Spanish Riders at Qatar Race

In a recent MotoGP article, a race reporter reviewed the circumstances that led to the surprising absence of Spanish racers on the podium at the MotoGP race in Qatar. The article states that nearly a decade had passed since the last time a Spanish racer didn’t claim one of the available podium positions. Since 2003, at least one Spanish rider had secured a podium placement in an opening round race, a streak that has now been broken. During the Qatar race, the reigning World Champion Marc Marquez earned a fifth-place finish after recovering from last place when he went off track to avoid a crash, overheating his rear tire and almost crashing in the last three laps. For Spanish rider Jorge Lorenzo, a podium placement finish was prevented by extreme vision impairment when a large piece of foam from his helmet slipped down over his forehead and eyes. Dani Pedrosa ended the race with a modest sixth-place finish following painful, speed-impairing right arm pump problems that he has been working to remedy for more than a year.

A Brief History of Manchester United Football Club

Chiedu Ebie spent more than a decade leading Millenium Oil & Gas Company Limited in Lagos, Nigeria before leaving the company in 2015 to serve as Commissioner of the Delta State Ministry of Education. 

The Manchester United Football Club played its first 30 matches as Newton Heath Football Club during the English First Division’s 1892-1893 season. Ahead of the 1902-1903 season, the team took on the current name, often referred to by fans as Man U, and soon relocated to Old Trafford, the team’s current stadium. In 1908, Manchester United won the first of its 20 league titles. The team added its next six Premier League championship trophies between 1911 and 1967, but it would be another two and a half decades before Manchester United became truly established as a Premier League dynasty. Beginning in 1993, Manchester United secured 13 of the next 20 Premier League titles, most recently following the conclusion of the 2012-2013 season. Man U’s dominance during the last 20 years has been demonstrated at a number of different venues. The team took home five FA Cup trophies between 1990 and 2004 while adding three Football League Cup wins since 2006. In 2008, Manchester United won both the UEFA Champions League European Cup and the FIFA Club World Cup.

Ayrton Senna and F1 Safety Changes in the Mid-1990s

Throughout his career as a managing director with the Millennium Oil & Gas Company Limited (MOGCL) in Lagos, Nigeria, Chiedu Ebie played an integral role in the strategic development of the company. In his free time, Chiedu Ebie enjoys following Lewis Hamilton and Kimi Raikonnen on the Formula 1 circuit. While F1 in its current incarnation includes a number of highly conservative safety protocols, the FIA did not always pay such close attention to the safety of its drivers. Following the on-track death of F1 legend Ayrton Senna, the FIA carefully reviewed the safety shortcomings of the race, and began a major safety overhaul. At the behest of the newly reassembled Grand Prix Drivers’ Association, the FIA reduced the size of diffusers and raised the front wing end plates, which significantly reduced accident risk due to downforce. Over the next several years, the FIA improved head protection, redesigned tracks to include more safety barriers, and limited the power output of engines.
