I like both happy temporary amnesia (like from getting tooth surgery) and heavy angst amnesia (like 'I completely forgot your existence' and 'there's no way I would ever date you')

yes! some of my all time favorite fics have the amnesia trope.

heartstroke: (wip, hasn't been updated since 2023) Charles wakes up and believes it's still 2018. He doesn't remember his husband, Max Verstappen. (very angsty, but very beautiful!)

the clauses of commitment: The last things Charles remembers is the 2019 Austrian Grand Prix. (I think this is my favorite of the amnesia fics!)

I'll Be Right Beside You: Max wakes up from a crash and is shocked to find out Charles Leclerc is his boyfriend.

I swear to God that from tomorrow, there will be no more pain: Charles and Max find their way back to each other after Charles loses the last four years.

There's a dazzling haze (a mysterious way about you dear): (hospital au) Max and Charles are doctors who couldn't be more different or more in love. (included for some very cute, temporary amnesia in chapter 2!)

I love you (it’s ruining my life) is my favourite lestappen fic. you created the most angsty but beautiful work. im curious if you’ve thought about more of the fallout from the other drivers etc? I know there’s a brief group chat in the fic just wondering how that would evolve after the public statement/charles post.

thank you so much!! 🥰 i love this ask, and I have kind of a silly answer considering how angsty the fic was, but it's a sequel idea i've had for awhile-

i think the reactions from the drivers would be sort of varied- but basically all of them would be supportive, even if a few of them have to adjust their world view a bit. but the drivers that max and charles are closest to are very happy for them!

however, even though everyone is pretty chill, nothing could have prepared them for just how unbearable Lestappen would become once they're unleashed.

throughout the rest of the season and into the next one, the two of them take advantage of the fact the whole world knows their business and decide that means they have every right to behave how they want... and, considering how obsessed and in love they are, what they want is to be all over each other... all the time

so the poor drivers are exposed to an absurd amount of pda from the couple. it slowly ramps up from them shyly holding hands during the driver's parade to them practically making out when they share a podium, along with everything in between.

every time one of their friends will make a light-hearted (but serious) comment about them maybe toning it down a bit, max or charles will just reply with a snarky reminder that countless people have already watched them fuck, so everyone should be able to handle a few kisses.

so let's just say that the group chat becomes something like group therapy as the grid learns how to cope with lestappen as a couple... especially after that time they disappeared together during an event only for one of the poor rookies to discover them doing something very inappropriate in the bathroom.

oh god how this fic is already so dear to me and it only grows dearer!! that song got me through ROUGH times in college, still such a moment of peace and yearning and longing every time i hear it.

nothing beats a hozier concert in my opinion, i was fortunate enough to see him right after he released nobody's soldier last year and that whole concert was the peak of my LIFE. he opened with jackie and wilson, which may be my favorite of the hozier songs (but that is like asking me to choose a favorite CHILD it is impossible)

To get through this shit of a race (I couldn't even watch the podium, I hate mclaren fr) I want to tell you what private pond rotf anon from yesterday made me think, what if charles start seducing a servant but pretending to be innocent and not doing anything, just so he can see max being jealous and possessive because, although he doesn't admit it, he loves seeing max marking his territory, even if that ends with the servant being k*lled

this is a very delicious premise 🤭 there will be a couple servants who get caught up in their games in a rather brutal way, so stay tuned. and yes, charles will spend a lot of time avoiding the fact that he kind of likes seeing max go feral possessive over him... he also might realize it's a very useful tool to wield against his enemies in the Red Bull court 👀
