Synopsis: Ethan enjoys a quiet moment with his son.

Soon the glimmer of the bright stars would dim. The glow of dawn would break on the horizon, lighting the sky in its warm glow, birthing the promise of a new day. The world would wake. People would go about their days. The good. The bad. And everything in between. 

If he could stop the world. To pause time. To hold onto this moment. To keep Hudson safe like this forever. He would. But the world waits for no one. Not even a father and son.

The corner of Ethan's mouth curled up. His eyes glowed in admiration as he watched Hudson's chest steadily rise and fall with every breath. The soft sounds of his slumber filled the quiet room—a beautiful melody just for him. The pad of his fingertip stroked tenderly across his sleeping son's hand, reassuring him, reminding him he'd never be alone.

How had six months passed already? He marveled. It felt like just yesterday they were bringing him home. He was so tiny then, just 6lb 8oz. How could he have grown so much? 

Hudson's tiny hand clasped onto his father's finger, pulling him from his thoughts.

Ethan's chest warmed at the innocence on his son's face—that peaceful smile that let him know he was okay. While the Earth kept spinning, disasters of one kind or another touched all parts of the globe. Yet, Hudson knew none of it. The world was simple to him. All he knew was love. Ethan wished he could shield Hudson, to keep him safe, to protect him always, so that this—this peace and safety would be all he ever knew. But Ethan knew the world didn't work like that. Pain. Heartbreak. Loss. Regret. Shame. Fear. They're all inevitable. He couldn't stop them no matter how much he wished he could. All he could hope to do was be there for his son. To be whatever Hudson needed him to be. To support and encourage him day in and day out. But mostly, to remind him that no matter what, he would never be alone and would always have a father who loved him unconditionally. 

His eyes misted over, tears pooling in the corners. Ethan hadn't known it was possible to feel like this—to feel such love that no matter how bad a day was or how stressful work was, just watching his son sleep kept his worries at bay. Knowing his son was safe brought a peace he never knew. There was nothing he wouldn't go through to get him back to his son—back to his whole world.

Ellie slipped in beside her husband, taking care not to startle him or wake Hudson. "Hi."

"Good morning," he whispered, his gaze never leaving Hudson.

Her eyes widened in adoration, watching the tranquil bliss on Ethan's face. It was a beautiful sight and only made her fall more in love with him every day. He was everything she could have ever hoped to find in a husband, lover, best friend, and father of her child. The magnitude of his love for her and Hudson knew no bounds. She rested her head on his arm, letting the moment linger. "Happy first Father's Day."

His arm wrapped around her, guiding her closer. He pressed a kiss on the crown of her head. "Thank you. I—" He shook his head. No words would convey the gratitude he felt for having the two of them in his life. "Just—thank you."

Ellie nodded her understanding, leaning further into him. Soon Hudson would wake, and their busy day would begin, but until then, this was all there was. And this was more than enough. This was everything.

A/N: I know it's super late but I really wanted to try to write something for my major pairings for Father's Day. I hope you enjoy this. I haven't really written Ethan in forever, but wanted to include him and his sweet baby boy, Hudson.

Cassie Valentine woke to the quiet and the dark. It took her a few minutes to remember why she couldn’t hear the dull sounds of traffic outside her window or why the bedroom walls were wood paneled instead of painted a pleasant shade of blue.

They were at Naveen’s lake house outside the city, a last weekend away before they started their new roles at Boston’s Edenbrook hospital. Her as Director of the Diagnostics Team and him as Chief of Medicine.

Dr. Ethan Ramsey, the occasional rebel and wildcard of medicine was going to become Chief Ramsey. She couldn’t be prouder of how he’d started to embrace the role and its possibilities. 

He had inspired her before they’d ever met and continued to inspire her after. And now he would get to shape more generations of physicians to come.

SOME CHARACTERS BELONG TO PIXELBERRY

Tobias's head was spinning in every direction as he stepped off the elevator; he clearly looking for something. A look of relief washed over him when he spotted the person he had been looking for. He had been trying to find Casey all day, praying she wasn’t ticked off at him after the joke he played on her last night. She snuck out of Donahue’s without saying goodbye, so he wasn’t sure if he was in her good graces. He hoped the rule he created in his head… the one where best friends could prank each other at least three times a year with impunity… was something she’d also buy because he really needed her now.

“MacTavish!” He bellowed as he approached her at the nurse’s station. 

Caught off guard, she jumped at the sound of his voice. OK, he probably hadn’t thought this out. Then she rolled her eyes and returned to work without acknowledging him, so he knew he was in trouble.

“OK, OK,” he smiled, grabbing a rose out of a floral arrangement in the station and making a dramatic gesture of handing it to his friend. “Peace? Truce? I’m sorry?” he begged.

Casey's eyes met his. She wanted desperately to be mad at him, but those blue eyes and stupid grin worked, even on her. Gruffly grabbing the flower from his hand, she put it to her nose before tossing it back at his head. 

“Hey!” he protested as she laughed, watching the petals fall to the table below him.   “That was uncalled for.”

“That was uncalled for?” She quipped. “This coming from the man who believes offering me a stollen, nearly dead rose is a sufficient apology for what you did last night?”

“Oh, come on, Casey, what did I do?”

“You led half of Donahue’s to believe that I have four nipples,” she exclaimed, slamming her folder shut. “And that two of them are on my abdomen!”

“Come on,” he chuckled, “you told me you wanted me to scare that guy that was talking to you off in a non-threatening way.”

“And that’s what you came up with! Then, of course, he blurted it out, and by now, I’m sure that a quarter of Boston thinks I’m some sort of a freak!”

“Hey! I probably did you a favor! Guys will be lining up just to get a look at that. And who knows… some might be into the idea,” he smirked.  

“I hate you, Carrick! But, I guess I have to be nice to you.”

“Yeah,” he said, stealing another rose and handing it to her with a tender smile, “and why is that?”

With a gentle shake of her head, Casey smiled and accepted the rose from his hand.

“Why, because you’re the only one of my friends who will be permanently single. And since that’s apparently my fate, I’ll need someone to hang out with. I’ll never have a date again. No one is going to ask out the quadra-nippled freak from Edenbrook.”

“Well, it’s funny you should mention that….”

“The quadra-nipples?” She asked.

“No, the date.”

“What,” she sighed with disgust. “What is it?”

“My Mom’s going to be in town this weekend with my Aunt Brend… and I need you to pretend you’re my girlfriend.”

A half-smirk formed on her lips when she realized she had all the power. “Yeah. No.” She laughed.

“Come on, Casey, please! They think I’ve been seeing someone, and….”

“Tobias, you’re 37 years old. Why the hell are you lying to your mother about having a girlfriend?”

“Because I’m 37 years old! She thinks I’m immature….”

“She’s right.”

“Thank you!” He retorted with disgust. “I just needed her to stop nagging me, so I….”

“…you lied.”

“I lied,” he shrugged. “I have to give the appearance of settling down.”

“You’re joking, right?”

“I wish I were. My family… they have expectations, and, I dunno, maybe it’s not that odd to expect a man of this vintage to be spoken for. Maybe they’re right.”

“Dude, have you considered, I don’t know, say… getting an actual girlfriend for once?”

“God forbid!” He shuddered. “I want to give the appearance of being mature, not actually live the life.”

“Well, you’ll have to find someone else. I’m busy trying to figure out how I can wear a bikini all over Boston in late October to prove I don’t have utters!”

Tobias chuckled, and Casey bristled as her last statement earned them several stares. 

“Well, if you’re going to be doing that, then I really want you to pretend you’re my girlfriend for the weekend.”

“You’re perilously close to not even being my friend this weekend, Carrick.”

“Nonsense! Come on, please, Casey? It’ll be fun. You’ll like my Mom, I swear.”

Casey returned her eyes to her folder, ignoring him completely. The next thing she knew, he was behind her, rubbing her shoulders just the way she loved… he didn’t play fair.

“Pleaaaseee..’ begged. “I’ll make it up to you.”

“How?”

“OK, you’ll stay at my house to make it look good. So you’ll get these magic hands all weekend long.”

She broke out into a fit of giggles, “Come now, Carrick. You’ll have to do better than that.”

“I’ll buy your food all weekend.”

“Do I look like a desperate college student subsiding on Ramen noodles to you?”

“OK,” he sighed.  “I’ll take your next two doubles, pick up your bar tab for a week, and…. I’ll be your fake date for your cousin’s wedding that you’re dreading so much.”

Casey narrowed her eyes.

“I know you’ve been dying to ask me.”

“I have NOT been dying to ask you!” she glared. “But,” she sighed, “I do need a safe date to keep my own family off my back.” 

She closed her eyes to mull it over, then offered him a hand. 

“OK, deal! But when you introduce me to my future mother and aunt-in-law, it will be at DelFriscos. I’m not letting you off cheap.”

“Deal! But chill on that in-law talk! I want them to think you’re my girlfriend, but I don’t need my ma printing save the date cards.”

“Sorry, Carrick! I go big, or I go home.”

“We’ll talk,” he laughed.  “Dinner at my place tonight? We can go over the logistics to make this believable.”

“You’re on.”

Casey watched as he walked away, shaking her head before returning to her work when she caught Jackie staring at her from across the way. 

“What?” Casey asked.

“When are you two just going to announce your engagement?”

“What?!” She declared.  “Me… and him? Are you crazy? We’re nothing more than friends, and we never will be.”

“If you say so….” Jackie teased.

“I say so!” Casey insisted, walking away in disgust just as Bryce entered the station. 

Biting into an apple, he threw his arm over Jackie’s shoulder.  Shrugging him off, Jackie stole the apple from his hand and bit into it herself. 

“What are you smirking at?” she asked Bryce.

“I overheard you talking to Casey.  I  just asked T the same thing.”

“And what did he say?”

“Same answer.”

“Yeah, well, I have $20 says they’re official by Christmas.”

“Christmas? They’re spending the whole weekend at his house?  There’s going to be massages involved? And they have to pretend they’re all loved up?  My $20 says they’re official by the end of this weekend.”

“Too soon,” Jackie said, waving a twenty-dollar bill.  “You are on!”

“Casey would never give him the satisfaction. He’s going to have to work for it. You’re on!"

Plan B: The Official Pilot

Synopsis: Thomas is called to set last minute, and will be missing out on Father's Day this year. Thankfully, Alex has some ideas!

Her arm fell flat against the empty bed. She didn't need to read the note that she felt beside her to know what it said. Thomas had gone to set, today of all days. Though, she knew it wouldn't have been an easy decision for him. 

For most of his life, his work had meant everything to him. That changed the day they fell in love. Thomas made room for something, or rather someone, else. Since then, two other someones had also found themselves at the center of his world. Thomas hadn't been one to think of himself as a father, but when the twins were born, he couldn't imagine not being one. Father's Day had become a special treat for him. He cherished spending every waking moment surrounded by his two children. He didn't even mind changing diapers on his special day. He'd do anything just to be with them.

Alex unfolded the note. Her heart broke, knowing how guilty and disappointed he must feel. Luckily, she always had a plan. If motherhood had taught her anything, it was to always have a Plan B.

"Good morning, my love," Alex greeted as Thomas answered his phone.

"My apologies for not being there when you awoke." His voice was heavy as he continued. "If there were any other way—"

"I know," she reassured him. "I understand."

"I'm sorry for ruining our day together. I trust it was well planned and would have made for a memorable occasion. Please, by all means, continue it without me. Felicity and Vincent deserve a special day." Despite his offer, disappointment dripped from each word. 

"Hush now! We will do no such thing." 

"Don't waste the day on my account."

"My love, after three years of living this life with twins, don't you think I'd have a Plan B?" She smiled at his silence. She loved that she could still surprise him. "Take out your keys."

"My keys?"

"You heard me."

He knew better than to argue. He retrieved the keys he had hastily tucked in his pocket earlier. A glimmer of silver he didn't recognize caught his attention.

"Did you find it?"

 "I—" He traced the black etching of the twin's overlapping thumbprints in the shape of a heart, their names engraved on either side. "Yes. I did... Words seem to fail on how beautiful a gesture having a reminder of our children with me is. When did you do this?"

"Last night, I had a feeling based on the calls you fielded yesterday that today might go how it did. When you went to bed, I slipped it on. This way, we'll be with you wherever you go."

"You always know just what I need."

"As you do for me." Alex leaned into his pillow. She closed her eyes as his familiar scent wrapped her in its warm embrace. "Did you look at the back?"

"I did not." His statement quickly turned into a chuckle. The inscription on the back mirrored the one he had given her all those years ago when he asked her to move in: '‘T, We love you a latte. A'. Thomas attempted to school his enjoyment of the sentiment. "You intend for me to walk around with a pun in my pocket?"

"I do." She giggled, chewing her lower lip. "I know how much you love my puns. Besides, you started it! I just thought we could have matching ones." 

"I will never live that down, will I?"

"I wouldn't count on it." Her smile faded. She could hear the clamor in the background of people calling for him. "I know you have to go."

"I'm sorry. As I said, please proceed with the plans you made without me. I trust the children will still enjoy them."

"Didn't we have this conversation already? Let me put it in Hollywood terms for you. We're going to call Plan A the unaired pilot that didn't pan out. Plan B, on the other hand, is the official pilot. It's currently in production, and the keychain was only the opening act. We will be taking a brief intermission before the next act as our beautiful leading man handles affairs off-screen."

"What did I do to deserve you?" His voice was lighter, filled with admiration.

She could hear the subtle smile in his tone. That is all she could have wanted at that moment, to bring him a brief moment of joy. "I ask myself the same question. I love you, Thomas."

"I love you eternally, my Alex."

"Go deal with your production issues. But, be ready for surprises throughout the day. Oh, and—shhh, spoiler alert—the pilot will introduce two special guest stars and a pup in about an hour—or two—with some brunch for you, the cast, and crew."

"Thank you for everything—for being you."

"You deserve the world. Now, go! Be the incredible director you are, and I'll see you soon."

“Look at your new home!” Jackie gushed to the tiny kitten in her hands. She held the kitten up to the window as Thomas pulled the car into the garage. As soon as he parked, Jackie excitedly - and carefully - got out of the car and brought the kitten to the door, leaving Thomas to grab the carrier that they clearly didn’t need to bring because Jackie insisted on holding Duchess the entire car ride. She held the kitten close to her chest and carried her further into the house.

“This is the kitchen!” She bent down to show Duchess her food and water. “Here’s your food and your water fountain! Are you hungry or thirsty?” She gently placed the kitten down in front of the food, sitting down next to her. Thomas watched his wife fondly as her face lit up watching Duchess, who sniffed the food before walking away. 

“Where are you going?” Jackie asked, slowly following Duchess, so as not to spook her. Thomas followed them both as they made their way towards the bedrooms. 

“You just wanna explore the whole house, huh?” Jackie picked up Duchess and carried her into the master bedroom. “This is Mommy and Daddy’s room. And look! We even got you your own bed in here.” She placed the kitten on her bed, although she quickly jumped out, intent on exploring. She walked around the room for a while before making her way to the door, but before she could leave Jackie intercepted her and picked her up.

Jackie brought her into the guest bedroom next to the master and showed her around, while Thomas leaned against the doorway. 

“This is the nursery! Well, not yet, but it will be someday!” Jackie turned to smile at Thomas. 

Thomas smiled in response, walking over to wrap his arms around his wife’s waist. He pressed a kiss to her cheek and said, “Why don’t you put her down and let her explore on her own?”

“But she’s so cute and tiny! I don’t want to let her out of my sight.” Jackie pouted.

“She’ll be fine. As long as she’s inside the house, she’ll be safe.”

“You can’t know that! The house is big even for a human! And she’s just so tiny!”

“Here, let me hold her.” 

Jackie hesitated, but handed the kitten over to Thomas. She followed him as he walked out into the living room, placing Duchess on the bottom of the cat tree they had gotten her.

“Now, come here.” He took Jackie’s hand and led her over to the couch. She laid back against his chest and they watched Duchess use her claws to climb up the tree. “See? She doesn’t need our help.”

Jackie sighed, but smiled. “Yeah, you’re right.”
