#ChoozeToGiveBack : Paper For Water + Chooze
At CHOOZE, it is our mission to empower kids to use their creativity to have a positive impact on the world. We love to celebrate amazing kids who are really using their creativity, confidence, and power to change lives. In this week's feature we are highlighting the work of two young girls, Isabelle (age 10) and Katherine (age 11), who have made it their mission to CHANGE THE WORLD. The girls started Paper For Water, they make Origami ornaments and sell them to raise money to build water wells. In a little over 2 years they have raised over $373,000 and helped fund over 46 wells in Ghana, Liberia, Kenya, Ethiopia, and India. CHOOZE had the chance to sit down with the girls and get an inside scoop on all the good they've been up to.

Q : What is Paper For Water?
A : It is a non-profit organization that raises money and awareness for clean water through the art of origami.
Q : How did you come up with the idea for Paper For Water, What inspired you to start this project?
A : Our dad is half Japanese, he made Origami when he was little and he taught us how to make it.
Q : How much time do you spend working on a piece of Origami?
A : It varies. During the Christmas season, it’s an hour or two a day. It’s our busiest season. At the beginning of the year, it’s less busy so we fold less.

Q : Have you been to any of the places you are helping?
A : Yes, we went to India last Christmas.
Q : Tell us about what you experienced there...
A : We saw that Paper for Water was really impacting a lot of people. Out in the country, where all the wells are, it’s mostly dirt roads and mud huts. There are acres and acres of different crops. It’s really crowded in the city, but it’s pretty open in the countryside. When you’re driving there are only two lanes, it’s kind of scary because there were no street lights once you’re out of the city.
Q: What is a water well?
A : It’s a hand pump that has a pipe that pumps clean water to the surface. The average person is 20 feet away from the water they need...it’s 20 feet below them.
Q : Why are water wells important?
A : They need water wells because they’re currently drinking from rivers and streams that their cattle drink out of, it’s full of parasites and bacteria that makes them sick.
Q : How do you feel knowing you are changing lives?
A : Really Really Great.
Q : What advice would you give to other children who want to change the world?
A : Anything is possible.
Q : What if they wanted to start up a project like you did?
A : Follow your dreams, you can do anything.

#ChoozeCreativity : Creative Spaces
Today on the CHOOZE blog we're sharing an interview with a mom who's passion is to live CREATIVELY! Need some inspiration for your creative corner, or inspiration closet in your house? Check out what Tiffany Shlain, creative mom of two, keeps in her art closet and how she keeps it organized! Read one of the interview Q&A's below:
Interviewer: What does it mean to be creative? Is it important that your children grow up to be creative adults? Tiffany: My husband’s an artist so we kind of think that everything you do is a work of art. Like the way you plan your week, the way you make your meals, the design in the house, the way you live your life. Everything you do can be creative. It’s a way of looking at the world.

#ChoozeToGiveBack : The Painted Turtle - Turtle Pillow Project
Summer camp is meant to be a place of fun, and self-enjoyment for kids. The Painted Turtle staff, volunteers, Board of Directors, and supporters work year-round to give all children with chronic and life-threatening illnesses a chance at this exciting and fun summer camp experience.
Located in California, The Painted Turtle is a member of Paul Newman’s SeriousFun Camps where all campers (and their families!) attend for free. The camp hosts children with life-threatening diseases from ages 6-17 years old and can accommodate special treatment for more than 30 medical conditions. Since 2004, The Painted Turtle has empowered thousands of campers to make new friends, try new things, and experience new opportunities in a space where they also receive care.
There are a few ways you can help support The Painted Turtle. One of the fun, more creative ways is to participate in one of these sewing projects. We love the Turtle Pillow Project, even kids can help in this project by helping cut out the turtle patterns from fun fabrics! Any color, or pattern they choose! Get creative!

The turtle you create will be stuffed, and handed out to campers at The Painted Turtle during camp sessions! Campers take the turtle home as keepsakes from camp. To learn more about The Painted Turtle, and how you can help visit www.thepaintedturtle.org.

Today on the Chooze Blog we're sharing this awesome, super easy to use app that helps parents keep up with and store their children's artwork!
flickr
Never again feel guilty about throwing away artwork your kids bring home. Get rid of the clutter and start to enjoy your child's work. Turn your Artkive into a high quality, hard cover book with little more than the touch of a button! Your kids will love flipping through their Artkives to see their creations and they make great gifts for grandparents and other loved ones.
That's right! You can even order a BOOK of their artwork directly from the app! This would be a great gift to grandparents, or could be used solely to keep track of their artwork by the school year. For instance, you could be "artkiving" throughout the school year. When it comes to an end simply make a book directly from the app!
We love how creative and useful this app is, and just had to share it with you! Have a wonderful weekend Choozers!

#ChoozeToGiveBack : Fine Arts Chamber Players of North Texas
This week CHOOZE to Give Back is highlighting the Fine Art Chamber Players! This amazing non-profit organization is one that is so important to local families and children here in Dallas, and the surrounding North Texas areas.
Their mission is :
To enrich and enhance the quality of life for North Texas area residents, especially families and children, through FREE concerts of classical music and educational activities.
We feel like the FACP's mission parallels ours here at CHOOZE, as they too believe that with exposure to music or any aspect of the arts, every child's life can be enriched, and ultimately life changing.
BELOW is a list of the FREE concerts they have planned for Fall 2014:
