As a Miami architectural photographer, I'm constantly looking at buildings even when I'm not photographing. Small buildings, large buildings. And sometimes odd buildings as well. I took this photograph a good six months ago after it had rained. In the Miami / South Florida area we have "farm stores", which are basically drive thru convenience stores. The history of these stores is interesting. While they use to be a norm back in the 50s, they are now limited in numbers and only exists in certain parts of the country, mainly in the south. This was the first time I've seen one of these stores and so naturally I was fascinated by them. This particular drive thru I passed on numerous occasions before I stopped and took a photograph of it. It had just rained and the reflection of the fluorescent lights were glowing just right to take a nighttime shot of this urban oasis.

This is a 'throwback' photograph I took a couple of years ago when I began exploring architecture photography. In those days I was a photojournalist shooting for a local paper and, coincidentally was on a assignment at a event at this particular location (Valencia College, Lake Nona campus). As I reflect on this photo, I can't help but be reminded by Plato's Theory of Forms. Though that subject is beyond the scope of this post, I think the world of architecture is constantly in tune with Plato in that regard. Buildings, materials, windows... forms. Are they not, at their true source, simply just ideas...? These are just some random thoughts of a Miami architectural photographer on the subject of his photographs.

Title: Florida Interstate Rest Area, 2015.

Recently took a trip to Sarasota with a friend and business associate of mine for an interior / architectural design shoot. On the way we stopped at a rest area to take a break and check emails. While this picnic area doesn't fall into the Miami architecture photography tab, it still has that mid century modern charm to it that architecture lovers can appreciate.
