empires fanon swap request: fwhip from sanctuary!

I might've misread the prompt because I assume you take an idea from season one and change it for season two BUT. Here's the concept (art & notes):

fWhip trades wood types from the Nether in the overworld, as well as Nether Stars. These are rarer and he only really gives them out to allies since he says it takes a lot of effort for him to get them and he's very attached to them. He has some plants naturally growing on him, mainly from Crimson Trees, and has more of an interest in fixing anything that goes wrong rather than anything being corrupted and helping it, so on and so forth. His clothes would also have embroided vines on it, but its most noticeable on his jacket. Whoever runs Chromia would probably do it in exchange for one of his stars. His version of the Sanctuary would also be a place for people to send Nether mobs that wander into the Overworld -- mainly things like zombie Hoglins that would take a while to return.

And now the doodle that. is admittedly a bit rushed since it's getting quite late here. While the design isn't much different from season one, he would keep the googles because I imagine he would take an industrial angle to the wood business and you don't want chips in your eyes. He has a Nether Star pin badge holding his scarf together too.

Hi omg!! I'm totally gonna ramble about my concept now because its so fun to think about. Its so good to see other Wynn players in the Life Series tags :D

Yeah, me and a friend have been fixated on Wynn for a bit so it's been buzzing around my mind. Since Martyn is already a cameo character (old man Martyn), I've been thinking about it so much. Also, yknow, Grian being a founder of the server. My premise for the AU was Renchanting based. Ren is a respected Paladin of the Ragni army trying to fix the corruption in the Wynn plains and Martyn, an assassin from Nesaak is like. hey. you know that old wizard that got corrupted? Yeah, yeah, I want to undo the damage he did. Let me prove I'm a good adventurer. Let me undo some damage. And Ren is obviously like "okay, dude, tag along anyway, I'm all for it". I think they'd probably meet some other people along the way, make the Renchanting group a guild and such. For the other members: Etho would be a Riftwalker Mage, Skizz would probably (??) be an Acolyte Skyseeker, BigB would be an Archer (maybe Sharpshooter?) and Impulse would probably be some kind of Knight too. If Tango were in it then he'd be a Fallen Warrior because of the damage boosts.

Riftwalker Mage Grian, who absolutely warps time just for a good prank

I was meant to just talk about the "we can still be friends" scene from Last Life but just kept rambling about Mumbo's character so yeah, here's this under the cut!

I feel like there's this notion that the Southlanders don't feel bad about Mumbo but the whole thing is so emotional? And Grian completely goes back on it when Mumbo becomes red? If you take Martyn's Eyes And Ears story as true lore, then his version of Grian's character should be so much more distraught over him not returning. That is if we seperate Hermitcraft Grian from the Traffic Series one fully because Mumbo essentially went through so much in Last Life that the universe went "actually he needs a moment to Not Deal With This". Aside from that digression, that was probably the most... outwardly selfish moment Grian has had? And that's not bad! He's a red life, he's forced to cut ties with Mumbo due to the rules of the game, he wants his friend near him and has to kill him in order for it to happen. The progression makes complete sense! Grian died because he happened to be on a ledge and is forced to side with his killer due to the rules of the game. How do you think Mumbo also feels then? He has to watch his friend fall without being able to help. He's also not good at PvP, opting to use his redstone prowess and farms for combat (the most complex at the time of Last Life, mind) and the player he was spending most of his time with (outside of the general Southland group) has been killed right in front of his eyes, and he couldn't really do anything about it even if he was allowed to fight Joel. Perhaps in the most shocking betrayal, this friend has joined his killer and wants to kill you first. Red Grian sees it as the ultimate act of loyalty to his friend, while Mumbo probably sees it as the ultimate betrayal. They're laughing about it because neither of them want the outcome where Mumbo dies, which makes its so tragic in contrast. Grian doesn't even want to kill Mumbo! Sure, if you want to, you could probably parallel this to the Red King not killing Martyn as an act of trust, but I think Grian is doing this to sort of scare Mumbo into not being too close with red name players? If that makes sense? Again, Grian really doesn't want Mumbo to die so it could be read as a sort of cruel way to warn Mumbo that they actually can't "still be friends".

HAVING SAID THAT, Grian becomes a yellow name in the next episode and Mumbo, as the boogy now, kills Bdubs with a crystal and is killed by Etho as an act of boogy revenge (which is a whole thing with those two too). And its WILD to me that one of the only things Bdubs saves is the spyglass. A symbol of his home in the Southlands. In fact, from Mumbo's POV, Grian asks where he is almost straight after and (ignoring the fact Mumbo and Bdubs stole from the Southlands base for a second) one of the first things Grian says to him properly is "you shouldn't be here, Mumbo". Yes, he says he knows Mumbo has been looting the base and has to exile him however I'm sure the character of Mumbo is probably dealing with, like, double feelings of betrayal, in opposite directions, so closely together.

Plus Joel AND Bdubs get a life, making Mumbo the only red for a short while. I'm really not surprised the fandom jumped onto the "Mumbo was so traumatised by Last Life that the Watchers didn't let him back in" idea from Martyn because he's been through so many betrayals and an extremely temporary emotional isolation during those events. And Scar immediately approaching Mumbo to ask him for mercenary work? Ow, that's gotta be a reinforcement that he's now only an asset to be used for killing, not even a full person who had a home and support system. Joel immediately dies after this and Mumbo exclaims "oh, Joel's my friend!" during negotiations with Ren and BigB, but isn't it so funny how it all turns around? The man who killed your friend is forced to be one of your allies until you die and are out the series. I'd also be upset if I were in Mumbo's boots so it's not much of a stretch in character work to see how he's so quick to go onto red hunting after this. Plus he calls Joel his friend which, hey, isn't it funny that Grian wanted to be friends originally? Again, tragic that he and Grian swaped fates and Mumbo will never have the chance to be welcomed back. Mumbo is much more passive about this and takes each action as they happen. He doesn't care for getting back to yellow since it seems impossible for him. Maybe if you wanted to read an actual character motivation into this, you could say that he felt like he'd been excluded and shunned so suddenly that he didn't think it was worth trying and it made more sense for him to gain "friends" (murder other players) for his own safety since, hey. He's the end crystal guy. Why bother with somebody who is bad at PvP in a PvP game? Either they leave you be or you have the element of surprise.

TL;DR: Mumbo went through a lot of interpersonal stuff in Last Life, switched sides way too quickly and got betrayed when he first became a redlife (and eventually died without ever being offered a cure) and if you listen to Martyn's lore then he probably went through too much emotional hurt to be allowed back in the games, even by Watcher standards.

I don't know if you want ocs or not (I bet I'll ramble about some later lmao) so I'll just ramble about one of my older fics that I'm trying to get back into planning : Life series but Inscryption. And this was SO MUCH MORE rambling than I expected so its under the cut.

I love AUs so much and this one is so! Its just so. Grian essentially takes the role of the Scrybe of Beasts with Martyn being P03, Pearl being Grimora and Scott being Magnificus (since they are the four series winners so far). This one was more for fun but some of it fits into place perfectly, in my opinion. Grian would probably lock the player into playing the game, sort or reversing the roles Watchers and the audience have when it comes to who draws on who's attention and emotions, while Martyn is trying to take the position instead (since its still a WIP, I considered shards from his VTuber series being a motivation with. you know. How P03 tries to upload the game onto the web and such. So Martyn trying that to escape the data stream? Kind of works out pretty well). I actually had a design for Grian at some point. He's got deer antlers too because that's just a feature I love drawing. And a vintage camera. Scott would be the Scrybe of Dye, Pearl the Scrybe of Hearts (maybe, renamed because of game functions) and I considered changing Martyn's title to the Scrybe of Redstone because books can be used in circuits (I think, I'm not a redstone player) and how that still has the technology link.

Other changes include: Stoat (Martyn) card becomes (Arctic) Fox card, Stinkbug card becomes some kind of Moth (Pearl) card, Caged Wolf becomes Caged Canary, the Cat card being replaced with Ren who permanently becomes Red King for that round when it dies enough times, Magpie cards becoming Allay, and a few other tweeks to add in nods to characters, lore, fanon curses and connections that seem pretty popular. Most notebly the Old_Data from the game takes the role of whatever the Hell Watchers use to become aware, which is why Martyn is searching for it during Act 2. But there's no connection to the DLC nor the ARG outside of the Old_Data mention.
