Your December 3rd PARPdate: Other Projects Edition

Hey there folks! Steve here, as usual, for your PARPdate!

This one's short and sweet: not much progress has been made but I can say with certainty we'll be getting back onto it soon. This month is empty because Hex has been called to work more heavily on whatever that there funny Cardinal thing the Cherp goobers're cooking up in their garage is. I assume it's like, a car or something. That's what people build in those.

On that note, MAN am I excited for Cardinal. Don't mean to gas up our sister site too much, but I've had some GREAT stuff running on cherp for a while. If yall haven't tried it out yet, give em a shot.

Genuinely though, that's kinda it. Slow couple of months, but ideally we'll be back on it soon!

This happens to me a ton. I just started saying "We can exchange names, but noo." Because I LOATHE RPing on Discord

if i had a nickel for every time one of my partners asked if we could move to discord because it would make it 'easier', they create a whole server with like 20+ channels but we only ever use 1, and they disappear after like 3 more responses i would have 2 nickels.

which isn't a lot, but it's weird (and frustrating) that it's happened twice.

Your April 2nd Parpdate: More like Ruby on Fails edition.

Ok so this one is semi-negative so buckle up, there's gonna be a TL;DR at the bottom too for those looking for the bullet points on all this.

Dev has officially resumed, but with it we've run into the same bug that was beshitting things up before with the javascript module packing. On top of being merely annoying, this has also put some things into perspective for us, especially after the beta.

The long and short here is this; after re-reviewing the feedback and keeping our ears to the ground, we've come to the conclusion that we're going to be starting over with a new codebase. There are things that Hex'll be able to reuse from the RoR codebase, so it's not gonna be a hard from-nothing redo, but we will be starting over after some consideration.

I would also be remiss not to bring up the Other Reason why we're considering this. Full transparency here; me and Hex both kinda feel like we dropped the ball on the beta. We went in too hard, too soon, an what we put out wasn't what people were expecting. In this one of the primary points of contention was that the site didn't function enough like MxRP- which is a complaint that Ruby On Rails has been fighting us tooth and nail on rectifying. We've discovered the hard way that going against its conventions ranges from difficult to impossible- adding to the feeling that a refresh might be needed going forward for The Great Reconstruction Of Msparp. To move forward, we're gonna need a different codebase that'll actually do what we want it to.

TL;DR Dev has resumed, but from the start due to Ruby on Rails not quite working the way we need it to.

Me and Hex feel like we dropped the ball with the beta, so we'd like to try un-dropping it as much as possible

am i weird for not liking it when people refer to their characters in first person? like, discussing kinks and them saying "i dont like it when im the one doing it but im fine having it done to me" in terms of like. a roleplay. it just gives me a weird vibe

Oh no I hate that too. That, for me, is auto no. Like. I need to make sure that there's a *clear* divide between character and player. Now if they say "If my partner is into it" I get it they mean "If my RP partner is into it". But if I feel that it's not clear enough? I'm splitsville.

Look. I'm sure they're grand! I am! But I am noooot comfy doing Canon/OCs.

I think this is a major like... "I don't read" thing though. Because it's not the only time people don't read Tags/OoC.

Man, I sure wish people on this RP website could read.
