Assessment 3
For our planned event, we want to explore body politics- specifically how our culture and parents both enable and restrict how we behave. Every member of our group had a pretty hegemonic Chinese upbringing, despite having been brought up in different regions of the country, and me being a first generation Chinese-Australian. We realised that our parents had fairly strict rules and values that we had to abide by as we grew up, and even now as young adults.
To explore this and give a visual representation, we have an idea of ‘human puppets’ where a puppeteer affects a body physically with ropes or something. We might also gamify this concept and get the class involved in this process.

Strategy 3: Human Puppets
“Hola teachers, the next strategy that I will be sharing with all of you is Human puppets. This specific drama strategy is absolutely amazing, it’s a really fun activity and I can guarantee your students will love it. We had a guest speaker come in today and teach us human puppets. Well, if the title does not give it away, this activity involves a human becoming a puppet. First you pair up two students together. One student is the control (puppeteer) and the other the puppet. The puppeteer will then pretend to use strings to lift the body parts of the other partner, they can also change the direction of the person. The student should not actually touch the other person because you want the students to really focus on how they are going to position that other person. The idea behind this is that the pair synchronize movement, plan the story well, and cooperate so that a smooth position is formed. Once the puppet is formed, the puppet will freeze there and the puppeteer can add an caption to make it more interesting. This activity can go so many ways, and is a great way to see how creative your students are. To modify this activity, you could allow students to sit down and just move hand, arm and head motions or the puppeteer can shout the actions and the puppet has to think of a way to act it out.”

Week11 Desire
The crown represents the jungle and the cape represents the ocean.
Everyone girl has a fancy dream about wearing a crown, so my design would likely to be a form to appeal their desires. When this girl put a crown on her head and wear a cape, she can image she walks from the fairy tale. It is a girlish imagination during the childhood time.

Assignment2 Final work - Concept statement
For assignment two, I continue the question from last assignment which the binary between clean and dirty. I did three experiment to lead to my final artwork. The first experiment, the material I used was an ice cube, a glass of pure water, oil and ink. I did a comparison with two glasses of water.
In the first one, the ink could be clearly identified through the water owing to the different colors; therefore, the ink could be regarded as a dirty median to mix with clean water. Although the water has been polluted, the process is fabulous. On the other hand, I added some oil to the ink for the second experiment so the color is flow on the surface of water,  thereby looking clean and natural with a sight in front of the glass. However, the audience just needs to change a perspective and then they will see through the appearance to perceive the essence. This comparison could explain how clean and dirty these two individuals present in the different situation, simultaneously they will obtain multiple results. In light of this, something looks beautiful is not always authentic. There is no straight explanation to define whether it is clean or dirty, it depends on which perspective the audience on and how they understand it.
Secondly, I did an experiment in a video form to empathize the dirty parts in the city such as tissues, banana skins, advertisements and cigarettes on the ground. The material I used was an empty glass. In the video, I invariably provide the beautiful environment of the city in a colorful form and then focus on the trash with  a back and white filter. The glass would be a tool to magnify those uncivilized actions that people normally do not realize. By shooting video, there is a clear comparison between clean environment and dirty rubbishes. This idea was inspired by a series of photographs from an artist Suzanne Sarnoff, she used water-filled vessels in a variety of shapes and sizes, thereby intriguing in their distortion of reality. In my experiment, I want to alternate two perspectives (clean and thriving city and trash surround the city)  that people see the world. Therefore, I criticized the uncivilized actions, and people will have a second consideration for their daily behaviors.
Furthermore, the third experiment is about a contrast between fresh and rotten fruit. When I did this experiment, I changed my idea about final work and have some new inspirations. I took some pictures of rotten fruit and fresh fruit to express clean and dirty, and I used photoshop to work with the details in the rotten lemon and apple pictures. From this experiment, I also want to deliver the idea that something looks fresh and clean but it would be dark and putrid if takes another perspective. This work was inspired by the painting from Dennis Wojtkiewicz. He took his still-life paintings to another level when he decided to work with fruit. Attracted to the inside of pieces of everyday fruit—the seeds, veins, and the translucent flesh and color changes—Dennis renders them in large-scale using oil on canvas. Therefore, artists would prefer to choose fresh and clean fruit as their subjects of artwork but I would like to reveal the dirty part after or behind the beauty, thereby focusing on the process more than a single result.
Finally, I made a video for my final work to present clean and dirty in food safety. This video is called ‘How does a tea shop make fruit tea?’, I want to reveal the dirty process that consumers cannot see, in order to criticize the way of earning money among some food and drink shops is by cheating behaviors. The idea was inspired by a video called ‘The Majestic Plastic Bag’, I used the same ironic technique in my video to add humor for it. Also, the shooting and editing technique was inspired from ‘Cat’s Kitchen’, which is in a romantic and pleasant atmosphere. Therefore, I chose rotten fruits, fruits that dropped on the floor, and out of date pearls and tea leaves as my main ingredients, although it is hard to believe how dirty the production is that people cannot see, it is true that most of shops would save the cost but ignore the quality and sanitation. For the background music, I chose a slow and romantic one which works suitably with satire. It is also ironical at the end of the video, the consumer only see the part that tea shops want to show him such as plenty variety of fruits; however, they do not notice that they are extremely dirty. The final work thread the main ideas of my experiments which is see through the appearance to perceive the essence. Clean and dirty this comparison could explain something looks beautiful is not always authentic.

Research for experiment#3
Dennis Wojtkiewicz took his still-life paintings to another level when he decided to work with fruit. Attracted to the inside of pieces of everyday fruit—the seeds, veins, and the translucent flesh and color changes—Dennis renders them in large-scale using oil on canvas. The most amazing aspect, though, is not only the detail of each piece, but the way he incorporates a light effect that makes them seem to glow from the surface. His series mainly include Citrus, Melon, Lemon, and Peach.

ADAD1002 Assignment2 Experiment#2 Research Suzanne Sarnoff used water-filled vessels in a variety of shapes and sizes, Suzanne’s photographs are intriguing in their distortion of reality. Through cylinders and glass, the physical props are fragmented, appearing almost as if they have been glitched digitally. Suzanne uses refraction, bold colors and directional light to achieve such results. The alternating of size, shape and position of these water-filled vessels provide endless compositions. ‘Perspective’ is a playful examination of the everyday, challenging the singular identity of the commonplace objects to showcase a multitude of visual expressions. In my experiment, I want to change the perspective (clean environment v.s. garbage) that people see the world as well by using this technique from Suzanne Saroff. Therefore, I criticized the uncivilized actions, and people will have a second consideration for their daily behaviors.

ADAD1002 Assignment2 Experiment#2

ADAD1002 Assignment2 Experiment#1
My topic is binary (clean and dirty), the material I used was an ice cube, a glass of pure water, oil and ink. First of all, I held the ice cube above the water and then dripped ink into it; therefore, the result will similar to the ink was dripping from the ice cube.
I made two experiments for it, the first one I record the process of how ink fell into the pure water which can be easily distinguished, then gradually mixed with water and finally entirely pollute the water.
The second experiment I mixed the ink with oil, it is widely acknowledged that the density of oil is smaller than water so the color would float on the water surface; thereby looking exactly the same from progress with a perspective in front of the water.
In the first experiment, the ice and water can be regarded as innocent people and the living environment. The ink represents a mutation from immature sophisticated, it could be seen as mistakes and variety of experience in daily life. Although this person is no longer pure and simple, he got ample accumulations and brave enough to show his mistakes, therefore the progress is fabulous.
On the other hand, the ice in the second experiment is similar to a self-deception person. He invariably tries to present what he wants to present to the audiences but those are not authentic. Therefore, the ink with oil was equal to truth and greedy which were hidden by the self-deception. However, the audience just needs to change a perspective and then they will see through the appearance to perceive the essence.
This comparison could express how clean and dirty work in the different situation and obtain diverse results. In light of this, something looks beautiful is not always authentic.

ADAD1002 Assessment#1 Question4 (clean/dirty)
There is an apparent contrast on my poster, the upper part is a little girl in white and many clouds surround her, whereas the bottom part is full of holes which were burned.
This work is inspired by How much time does reality provides dreams from a Chinese photographer Fan Shunzan in 2011, in his artwork, he enlarged the conflict between dream and reality which reveals the status quo of the majority of city dwellers in low class. The stress from work and study probably created a significant gap between daily life and desirable life.
In my poster, the cloud symbolizes freedom and girlish fantasy because everyone has the right to pursue dreams, and this part equals to the clean area. However, the second layer of my poster is made of a collage to reveal the dirty and messy reality, it sticks with different types of garbage such as broken bags, apple core, banana skin, broken toy bears, scraps of paper and sawdust. Furthermore, I also cut the canvas to highlight the mess.
The reason I chose canvas for my background is it has a soft texture and it is flexible to change the shape and leave some marks, my poster could become an interactive artwork to represent since classmates and teachers can touch it and open it to see the second layer behind. Moreover, most of the objects on my poster such as the little girl and rubbish, I used the collage instead of drawing because it made a huge contrast with the canvas to emphasize the authenticity.
Appealing to the emotion, although life is tough, the dream will be invariably young, it makes humankind willingly resist the unfair destiny. Therefore, although my poster builds a lonely atmosphere, there is still some hope and innocence in it.
