ok actually. Hiii. sorry so I was thinking about this for some reason. Like specifically how in leftist spaces female oppression is so downplayed and shit compared to literally everything else. And ok allow me to sound like an idiot who has no idea what she’s talking about for a minute.
I do think that obviously sexism is a part of it, when something doesn’t involve men, people stop paying attention to it. Like the second it doesn’t impact men, it stops mattering altogether. This is a widely discussed issue. And like ok everyone knows that’s shit, but I actually think that part of it isn’t bigotry, it’s linguistics. The description of “Woman” is passive, it fills the role of “person/man”, it’s there at the end of the word passively simply to acknowledge to the person in question. This means that “woman” isn’t really thought of as a social class, or a single group of humans, like any other identity is, it’s just a passive noun added at the end.
Like ok. I feel like I sound weird but listen to how this sounds.
“I am a creole woman”
vs
“I am a female creole”
in the second statement, creole becomes the passive state, and female becomes an active identity. It sounds different right? Like you’re paying way more attention to my sex, where in the first one you’re paying attention to my ethnicity.
But most people aren’t saying “I am a female __” because unless you’re actively making a point like I just was, it sounds kind of weird. Meanwhile I very rarely call myself “a creole” or “a native” in the way I call myself a woman. “Woman” as a word, is just something pointing out my personhood, and everything else is my identity, if that makes sense.
like here’s another example, very similar but I wanna add one more thing—
if I say:
“I am a female indigenous person” because the passive is the “person”, both the “female” and the “indigenous” are front and center
vs
“I am a native woman” the “native” is what sticks out, and the “woman” is sort of brushed over
vs
“I am a female native” now the “female” is what matters, and the “native” is the part you’re brushing over.
This post is not going anywhere, I just think it’s interesting. It maybe doesn’t seem like it matters at all, but I think it actually does. Not saying people downplaying sexism aren’t shitty, but it’s just kinda neat to see how even simple petty stuff like this really influences how we talk about things.
There’s a group of people I wanna acknowledge. theyve been regarded as second class citizens for centuries across the world, in fact, theyve been oppressed so long that people genuinely thought it was just biological. They’re humans like everyone else but have been considered property and pets for their oppressor to have, in some places theyre executed for stepping out of line, banned from public spaces and banned from receiving education, theyre often in the 21st century sold- as children- to their oppressor, they’re banned from voting, passing on their last names, and every term from them is something that marks them as being less than their oppressor. In some places they have slightly more human rights, but even then they’re second class. They weren’t allowed to vote until recently, they were banned from education until recently, they are still sold and abused and exploited and treated as pets more than people. They are legally prohibited from having bodily autonomy, their bodies are intentionally neglected by the medical system and really any proper education, which leads to them being killed by medical professionals. They as a population despite being very huge, own almost no property and are systematically prevented from gaining any power. They’re subjected to systemic inequality, police violence, and most of them live in fear. They are also systematically forced into poverty, and often generational poverty. They’re exploited and killed and sold for their beauty, and even death they are fetishised by their oppressor. Their oppressors will steal and rape their dead bodies. They’re killed as babies because theyre treated as undesirable. And in almost every area, despite not legally being pets anymore, they are still socially treated as servants and objects and pets and animals, and it’s considered acceptable. Everywhere. Worldwide. They are never not second class.
anyways I’m sure you imagining all that as something that was happening to men made you feel really horrified for a minute. You’ll be relieved to know it’s just shit that happens to women, and therefore not really a big deal.

or when people start hating on america and americans, and they’re going thru all this stuff, and then they say at the end “AND they killed all the natives!” As if we’re some kind of afterthought that you tack on. Like. Like as if the genocide that was so brutal it directly inspired the holocaust was just some Other Little Thing that america did that you throw on to add some extra outrage. Like tf you mean “AND they killed all the natives” ?? tf you mean “-And” ??? Thats not something you just tack on at the end. Its like you people forget we’re still around! And can see this shit you’re talking!
i was talking about this to a friend the other day but something i see ppl say often that really really pisses me off, is when people start hating on america, but it becomes clear they’re hating not on the state of america, but on the american people- and theyll say something to sort of like. exclude. american ethnic groups, as like a way of being like “yeahh fuck all americans they should all die IM NOT RACIST THOUGH!” except they do that by being like “yeah and there were american ethnic groups like natives and creoles and whatever…uhh but yk those americans. They killed all of them. So they’re not around anymore ergo not included.”
i just hate that. Like if you want to say you hate a whole population of people you have to acknowledge that you’re hating a whole population of people, you cant back out when it starts sounding really racist because by doing that you’re just sort of saying we are either extinct, or our whole continued existence on this land is null. Like either say you hate all americans and include us, or if that doesn’t sound right, then don’t say it at all!

like literally in the FIRST EPISODE eddie managed to piss her off so much she out of nowhere threw the car they were in into drive and started speeding. Get u a girl who is so insufferable that u have no choice but to be human.
dulcie is such a good character to pair with Eddie because she takes herself sooo seriously and is sooooo calm and controlled and restrained, and then Eddie shows up and within three episodes Dulcie is completely and openly just losing her shit, and when they actually start working together this becomes a strength as Dulcie is able to actually like. Be a person. Around Eddie.

Dulcie around other people when she’s pissed: uhm. *stunned silence* alright uh. Ok. Anyways…
Dulcie around and after meeting Eddie: JUST SHUSH IT SHUSH IT ALL! *starts doing an imitation of Eddie in which she actually curses at her and doesn’t censor herself* *kicks over a trash can* *gets up in Eddies face while screaming at her, something she doesnt even do when she finds out her own wife kept genuinely important case information from her*
dulcie is such a good character to pair with Eddie because she takes herself sooo seriously and is sooooo calm and controlled and restrained, and then Eddie shows up and within three episodes Dulcie is completely and openly just losing her shit, and when they actually start working together this becomes a strength as Dulcie is able to actually like. not that being unable to walk is inherently worse than walking, or inherently lowers your confidence, but when you’re an active healthy person in their adolescence and suddenly that hits it really does fuck with your self perception. And like. I tried to take it in stride, and I made the most of it, but I didn’t even realize how much it was still weighing down my whole soul yk. Like today I was at physio and I had to do something kind of silly looking, and I was having fun laughing at myself a bit, and then just remembered that when I first went in and was still on my crutches, anytime I had to anything even slightly silly all I could think then was “this is demeaning”, and I’d leave feeling like shit! Like, really embarrassed and uncomfortable! Idk it’s just really nice, it’s like I’m finally seeing my real personality again and not this insecure sad piece of shit who’s been piloting me for the past year.
regaining my walking has really boosted my confidence very quickly. So many problems I didn’t even realize I had that are now not problems anymore.

why do so many people ignore the entire process of labor when discussing abortion, unwanted pregnancies, and women’s right to bodily autonomy. labor is no trivial matter! it kills! it has killed! for the majority of human history it was the leading cause of death of women! to me there’s something about trivializing adoption by saying “just give [the child] up” and completely ignoring the tremendous amount of physical pain and irreversible bodily damage women go through giving birth that’s even more disgusting than not supporting abortion to begin with!
