“Don’t be such a doofus! Go and talk to her!” Jisung heard Hyunjin say after he kept banging his head on the pole of a random tent at the reception.
He’s been greeting everyone and received congratulatory messages that would later be relayed to his brother. With all smiles and handshakes, the draining social interactions, and trying to keep up with the conversation, Jisung just wanted to have his forehead get struck by the pole but then, the “you” situation happened. It created this burning urge inside of him that he wanted to make a move yet your presence being his top priority, he couldn’t move at all.
“What if she won’t like me?” Jisung answered with doubt in his voice as he looked at Hyunjin worriedly. “I’m such an awkward person! You know I never approached someone before!” He added, grabbing Hyunjin’s collar making the latter almost spill his glass of champagne.
“The woman won’t eat you alive Han! Man up.” Hyunjin groaned, trying to get his friend’s grip off from his expensive suit.
“Easy for you to say! You’re handsome and people would swoon over you. I am surprised that you’re still single in your late 20s.” Jisung retorted as Hyunjin glared at him and sighed.
“So what?” Hyunjin argued, rolling his eyes in annoyance.
“Are you sure you won’t use your face to get laid tonight?” He asked with those eyes filled with sadness for his dear friend.
“I don’t give a fuck about dating and leave my hopeless romantic ass alone so go ahead and make yourself useful or something!” Hyunjin shooed as he pushed Jisung away from him. The younger boy scoffed at him while fixing his white blazer and went ahead.
“Such a waste of potential!” Jisung told him but Hyunjin just turned his back away and left the pole.
It is indeed a special day for everyone in the reception but to Jisung, it’s not just his older brother’s wedding day. He stood at the altar as one of his brother’s best men as the bride glided gracefully through the aisle way back at the church two hours ago. You stood from one of the benches after the maids of honor, wearing that beige dress to match the motif. Jisung saw you there, all beautiful and elegant, a gorgeous creature he had never seen before. It’s not safe to say that it was love at first sight but he was captured by your bewitching presence. He stood there with confidence in the hope that you’d notice him too. Maybe not, for you didn’t know who he was.
He asked for your name after the wedding ceremony but no one knew as you were new in town. You were clinging to your only friend at the venue, Jeongin whom you shared classes with when you were in college, and yet, he was out there hanging out with his other friends leaving you alone by the fountain. No hard feelings, aside from him, you were there for the bride.
“Y/N! I’m so happy you could make it.” The bride beamed as she approached you with a hug.
“Pleasure to be here. I can’t miss your wedding.” You smiled at her. “Congratulations on another chapter in your life!”
Jisung stopped in his tracks as he stood two meters away from where you and the bride were having a conversation. He was drawn into how soft-spoken you were and the way you laugh is so elegant and classy. He also finds your smile pretty and the way you keep a pleasing eye contact with the bride somewhat makes him want to experience from you as well. A short exchange of words is not your best feature when it comes to socializing but having to understand the fact that you’re not the only guest around is acceptable and it wasn’t long after that the bride left for another guest to entertain as you sat down on the rim of the fountain, sipping on your glass of wine while enjoying the busy sight of people sharing gossip and laughs.
It was his chance but shame and being bashful made him turn his back on you when the bride left as his heart started to beat faster than normal when he knew he was done waiting for you two to finish. It was crazy how his heart wouldn’t stop jumping as if it was going to rip his chest to get out from the excitement he felt the moment he laid eyes on you back at the church. He doesn’t know what to say to start a conversation and he hates himself for wasting minutes while you sit there, so beautiful in his eyes. But not until you noticed him being uneasy.
You weren’t dense not to notice him ever since the wedding march started. His eyes were on you instead of the bride but you pretended not to put much thought into it because maybe he was looking at someone else. Another guest went to you and told you about a guy asking for your name but he was called by Jeongin (surprisingly) even before you could say your name. He was also going to approach you first but the bride beat him to it and when it was his turn, he couldn’t move, instead, you could see the shape of his back from where you were sitting. And that’s when you were sure, it was you he was interested about.
“You know, you’ll never get the girl if you stay still on your spot.” You said making him flinch in response and slowly turning around to face you.
“H-Hi?” Jisung greeted you with that sheepish smile of his as you stood up from the rim and walked toward him.
“Hi.” You smiled and oh boy, he was smitten. It was like having to see an angel amid a large crowd.
“I’m sorry if I ever made you uncomfortable, I’m not a creep or anything. I’m justー” Jisung said, waving his hands in front of you implying that he has nothing but good intentions.
“No, no, I totally understand.” You said cutting him off and offering your hand for a shake. “I’m Y/F/N (your full name), the bride’s college roommate and you are?”
“Jisung, but everyone calls me Han. I’m the younger brother of the groom.” He said, shaking your hand and it was so soft that he didn’t want to let go. “Nice to meet you.”
“Nice to meet you too, Han.” You smiled at him.
He is cuteーthat you admitーhe also stood out from everyone else as he wore that white blazer among the four other best men his brother had recruited. His long black locks were styled neatly with a bit of his bangs sprayed still on the sides of his face, a white polo shirt inside that white blazer, a cream-colored tie around his collar, the black slacks, and the shoes, he looked neat and attractive. Han didn’t want to leave a bad impression when this day ends and Hyunjin was right, he needed to man up to finally be able to get himself useful to society and flirt. He can’t blame the poor man for not having a lot of experience when it comes to finding a partner, and so do you.
Despite his feeling of shame and you, not loving to interact with strangers, you are thankful that he came by albeit there was a long pause between you and him. To be honest with yourself, you didn’t know how to start a conversation either but Han most definitely caught your attention as well and you’re happy about it. The loneliness faded into thin air as his smile brought color into your gloomy and colorless solo flight.
Maybe it was fate that brought the two of you together in the same place at the same event. The sounds of people coming and going, their conversations, the laughter, and the wind were making the atmosphere somewhat entertaining to listen to. Jeongin was talking with his old friends, and Hyunjin was with them. Everyone is busy with their bubbles leaving you and Han together.
“So uhm, do you know anyone around here?” He asked you, finally breaking the ice.
“Apart from the bride, there’s Jeongin.” You said pointing at your dear friend using your glass of wine.
“Oh, you’re with Jeongin? I’m sorry!” He said, upon realizing you must’ve been taken and mentally wanting to slap him square on the face.
“No!” You giggled. “I mean, not in that kind of relationship. We shared classes in college with the bride so we’re pretty close. We’re just friends and I came here with him.” You reassured as Jisung sighed in relief. “You know him?” You asked.
“Yeah, he’s a family friend and a business partner. I thought you were together.” He blurted out making you laugh.
“Oh, but it’s not that.” You smiled, taking a glance at Jeongin from afar. “Actually, it has been a while since the last time we saw each other since he started working and I’m on break from my masters.” You added.
“Masters?” He asked, feeling intrigued.
“Yeah, Liberal Arts in a university in (country).” You answered, sipping a few amounts of wine.
“Wow! You’re amazing. So you’re new in town?” Jisung must’ve been entertained in this conversation as he kept getting interested. With such beauty that also possesses a great mind, he is never going to turn his back away from this.
“Well, you could say that because I have never been outside of Seoul before. It’s my first time to be here in Chuncheon.” You said as Jisung nodded thinking it might be a good chance to know you more.
“Well, I could show you aroundーI mean…” Jisung wanted to slap himself for being direct and let the ground eat him because of embarrassment but he only earned another laugh from you which made it more degrading but endearing at the same time for he finds it cute. “I mean, if you’re not going to leave for Seoul or if you still have time before your break ends. I swear, nothing creepy though. I mean… uhm… it’s just that…well fuck.” He stammered with a flustered look on his face.
“I get it, Han.” You giggled at his cuteness making him red as his hands got shaky and cold. “I’ll be back in Seoul by Friday afternoon so that gives you a day left to show me around.”
“Really?”
You know it wasn’t right to trust a stranger at first hello but the thing with Han Jisung is just so shielded. He’s the cute guy you met at the wedding and finally pursued a conversation. Not only that, he made a subtle way to ask you out and you answered. Even him got surprised. He wasn’t expecting you’d be up to it immediately. There’s nothing suspicious about those round eyes and cute cheeks with all the stammering and awkwardness.
“Yeah.” You said. It seemed like you were desperate too but it’s been lonely since you arrived yesterday. Jeongin was with his friends and only accompanied you to dinner because you were too shy to go along with the other guests staying at the same hotel. “But I have to leave in a few minutes since I need to submit some paperwork to my professor before the deadline tonight.”
“Where are you staying? I can walk you there or give you a rideー”
“It’s fine Han, I’m just at the bride and groom’s hotel until Friday after lunchtime. How about you?”
“Well, they’re planning to have a yacht party tonight so I’ll be there with my friends and newlyweds of course.” He answered as you gave him a nod.
“I hope you’ll have fun later.” You smile at him as you take a glance at your wristwatch.
“Thanks.” He said as he noticed you looking at the time. “Is it okay if I walk you back to your hotel?” He asked as you look at him again.
“Wouldn’t your brother and friends look for you?” You asked him.
“They wouldn’t. They know I don’t like big crowds and my friend just shooed me away before I came to you.” He said making you laugh again in response and place your empty glass of wine on the waiter’s glass tray who happened to walk by.
“That wouldn’t be a problem.” You said.
“Lead the way!” He beamed.
You knew you had a lot to talk about while you were on your way to the hotel not far from the reception. It was a breezy afternoon and the sun was almost at its peak to welcome the night sky. Han is sure to have a lot of things to share as you listen to him. A long exchange of words happened and it is quite entertaining knowing that you (surprisingly) have a lot in common. He is the type of guy to smile a lot and gets really hyped when excited. You, on the other hand, got smitten with him and found it cute. The jokes he said and the laughs you’ve shared, he’s funny without making any effort.
When it was your turn to say something about yourself, it came out to be unexpected with all the things you carried from the moment you met Jeongin and the bride. You made him laugh out of your clumsiness, for being forgetful nowadays because you get busy. After all, he can totally relate and tell you he would always carry a piece of paper and a pen with him despite having a notes app on his phone. The story of you being single for a while after a nameless, stupid, irrational guy dumped you during the anniversary of your university way back in college and how flings don’t work on you because the guys you tried to date were all fuckers. Jisung wanted to be different.
It wasn’t the wine that you had earlier but minute by minute that you spent with him, Jisung became more handsome in your eyes. You could listen to his voice all day without getting tired of it and the fact that he also mentioned that he sings, made your heart leap even more. He came out to be somewhat nerdy but in an acceptable way and he is thankful for letting him talk about a lot of things without getting bored of him. The anxiousness of having a stranger beside you just vanished as you became comfortable with his presence yet you know that he’s not a stranger anymore but a new person you decided to open the door to your life even if it’s just for a short while.
“Well, this is me.” You said as you both stopped at the entrance of the hotel.
“It was nice spending some time with you Y/N.” He smiled despite the feeling of sadness he had inside because he didn’t want it to end.
“Thank you for keeping me company, Han.” You smiled back and he knew he had to leave in a few minutes for the party tonight.
“Not a problem actually but uhm…” He paused. “May I ask you out tomorrow? I mean, you mentioned you’re not so familiar with Chuncheon so maybe I can show you around? If that conversation and agreement is still valid of course! I mean, I won’t take it to heart if you’re notー” He stopped when he felt your lips on his cheek making him turn red.
“You may.” You smiled at him as he was utterly speechless.
“S-so, uhm… will 9 or 10 in the morning tomorrow?” He asked, feeling bashful as ever.
“9 am would be great. Good night, Han.”
“Good night.” He said.
And with you disappearing across the double doors of the hotel’s entrance Jisung almost passed out. His heart was going crazy again but good for him, he finally asked you out. He may want to thank Hyunjin for shooing him away earlier just to get to you but for now, he wanted to keep it sane for himself and let the excitement burst later when he’s alone. A big and cheeky smile is plastered on his face as he takes his way back to the reception to meet his friends so he can get a ride to the yacht party later.
“Where have you been?” That’s what Changbin asked the moment he arrived, still having that lovesick smile on his face earning a disgusted look from his friends.
“Yeah, did you finally get laid?” Hyunjin smirked making him slap his arm in response as the smile faded and turned into an annoyed one.
“With whom?” Jeongin asked, feeling intrigued.
“Oh shut up you three.” Jisung sighs. “I met a girl, talked to her, walked her back to the hotel, and asked her out.” He said.
“Finally! You made yourself useful for once, Han.” Hyunjin clapped. “Is it the girl in a beige dress?” He asked as Changbin and Jeongin raised a brow.
“Yep,” Jisung smiled. “Thank you for leaving Y/N alone earlier, Jeongin, I owe you one.” He added, taking the younger one’s hands and shaking them violently.
“You were with Y/N?” Jeongin gasped despite his disbelief.
“Who?” Changbin asked, feeling completely out of place.
“None of your goddamn business. I’m taking her out tomorrow and perhaps, show her around Chuncheon so you three can go hiking without me. Ha!” Jisung exclaimed and made his way to the car, dancing in joy. The three of his friends looked at each other in amusement and later shrugged the thoughts off to move to the next venue.
It was already dark when they left the reception after getting everyone’s attention to announce that to those who wanted to attend the after-party at the yacht by the coast. Changbin was driving as Hyunjin and Jeongin were talking. Jisung was surprisingly quiet despite his excitement earlier and he was beating himself upーthinking about giving up the after-party to get back to the hotelーhe couldn’t wait to spend the day tomorrow and he could only decide to meet you halfway from his next destination. It’d be stupid if he’d ask Changbin to stop the car and make an excuse for having an upset stomach when in fact he walked out of the car and went back to the hotel. Hyunjin wasn’t convinced about Jisung being a pathological liar but they let him go anyway.
Jisung didn’t get scared of the dark when he decided to leave and went straight to your hotel when all of the guests were heading to the yacht. You stayed behind because of the commitment to your masters and you didn’t want to fail. Jisung asked the front desk about your room being out of breath because of the running as you typed into your laptop by the windowsill, trying to get a nice view of this foreign place. You weren’t expecting any unexpected things to happen tonight aside from submitting paperwork not until you heard a knock outside your door. The laptop is soon left unattended on your couch as you make your way to the door and take a peek from the small hole. It was him.
“Han?” You asked, immediately after opening the door for him.
He was still wearing his suit and was about to knock again. It looks like he was hesitating to get here but there was this unspoken spark and excitement in his eyes that he could not hold it in that’s why he ended up here. Also, he can’t get you out of his mind and seems to have a lot to say to you albeit in the conversation you had this afternoon. Being frozen on his spot, he couldn’t construct the words into sentences the moment you opened the door and just stared at you, thinking what he should say or just let his lips crash onto yours because of his goddamn feelings. He admits, he was curious and drawn into you the time he laid his eyes on you and now he’s here trying to make up the time he wasted after saying good night.
“Han, what are you doing here?” You asked. “I thought you were going to the after-party.”
“Changed my mind on my halfway there.” He said. “Well, I know I said I’ll be here tomorrow by 9 but I just couldn’t wait.”
“What?” You asked again, confused but you couldn’t lie to yourself that you feel the same even though you just met hours ago.
“Y/N.” He called as he locked eyes with you and there he realized it was indeed love at first sight. “Fuck.” He hissed, feeling his lips onto yours.
It was unexpected but without hesitation, you returned the kiss. Your arms wrapped around his neck as you pulled him inside while he closed the door from behind. His kisses were desperate and longing at first filled with unspoken words as they became tender and exploratory with a hint of excitement and commitment. Your eyes shut at the slam of your lips together, the taste of wine and champagne getting mixed lingered upon the kiss. It was sweet as your lips molded together, feeling each other’s hot breaths at the tip of your noses as it got deeper.
Your hands reached for his neat hair which was now messy and disheveled as your fingers played with the long strands of his black locks. He snaked his one hand around your waist to pull you closer to his body and let you melt against his kisses while the other hand was placed on your jaw to feel it better. The kiss is tempting and hot. It wasn’t like the kisses you felt before from the guys you allegedly dated, not even close to your first kiss when you were in middle school. Jisung’s kiss is so different as you feel sincerity and fondness. You didn’t want to break it, you wanted to feel a little bit more.
Jisung doesn’t want to stop either but the fact that kissing someone he just met is a bold and shameful move. He loved your lips at first taste and now you’re getting pinned against your door hearing a loud thud as he continued to move his lips on yours. You hugged him again as he placed his knee between your legs so you couldn’t escape and you didn’t have the intention to. He could feel how eager you were that it made him smirk against your lips and he couldn’t stop himself from it.
Your hands reached for his collar to pull him closer to yours to feel more although you know it’s not right for you to be this desperate. I didn’t matter anymore. The years of not being able to be kissed properly are something that you don’t deserve and now Jisung is the very first one to make your heart flutter like butterflies, you can’t just let him go after this. He also knew you felt the same the moment you got struck like lightning by his frantic kiss. Again, it doesn’t matter. You want him too, that’s all you both need to know.
“I want to be with you,” He said, slightly pulling away from your lips upon trying to catch his breath. You locked eyes with him again as you placed a soft kiss on his lips before smiling at him.
“Isn’t it weird that I want to be with you too?” You asked him as he chuckled in response.
“No, it’s not.” He said. “Did I interrupt something before I…”
“No,” You said cheekily and kissed him again. “Are you staying for the night?”
“If I’m allowed to?” He answered between the kisses.
“You may.” You answered before pulling away. “But what about the party?”
“I can’t go now that we’re doing this.” He giggled. “Let me stay here for a while. I mean my room is just above this floor so I’ll take some clothes and we can spend the rest of the night together and go on a date tomorrow like we agreed…?” He added as he caressed your cheek, still keeping that eye contact with you.
“Sure, let’s do that.” You said as he gave you a forehead kiss before excusing himself to go to his room, leaving you all hot and a blushing mess. Meanwhile, he was out there by the hallway dancing while humming his favorite tune and being all smiley about what just happened.
It is indeed a special day, a wedding, and an unexpected meeting.

bus ride — kim seungmin.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
basically a part two of jealous roommate hyunjin but can be read as a standalone, also inspired by song by ep. 4 ; seungmin x fem!reader (she/her), 1k+ wc, college setting, fluff, not proofread.
𖹭 ⁺
“stupid rain.” seungmin sighed as he stepped out of the corridor and later ran towards the bus stop after stumbling with hyunjin’s roommate, now hoodieless (it’s not even a word). he thought about it hard as he got soaked from the rain. maybe he was too kind to lend his hoodie to someone who made him leave in the cold. and why did his professor dismiss the class when the rain started falling? it’s not even autumn yet and summer is just unpredictable, like always.
he rubbed his palms together to create warmth as he sat down on the bench while waiting for his bus to arrive. meanwhile, you walked towards the same stop with an umbrella above your head. the small shed was suspiciously empty at a time like this. people should be lining up to go home but it was just you and the guy who is like a drenched stray puppy. you recognized him by sharing a few minor classes with him last semester. he was hugging himself, shivering after the heavy drops of rain took over his shirt as his hair got damped.
you sat down a foot away from him as you closed your umbrella and tried to mind your business, but seeing him broke your heart. you thought letting him have your oversized sweater inside your backpack was weird. it might fit him. you thought again as your lips made a thin line and took out the blue sweater while using the time that the bus hadn’t arrived yet and handed it to him. he was confused when he saw the thick material fabric in front of his eyes and looked at you.
“you’re cold, you can use it.” you smiled at him.
“no, no, i’m fine,” he said but you shook your head in return.
“you might get sick, besides, i’m not using it so here,” you insisted gesturing to the sweater. he was hesitant to take it but he recognized you too—that one student from his minors last semester who always sat at the back of the classroom with glasses on, the quiet one. it’s funny how he’s dealing with a person he barely knows but is too kind to lend him their sweater when he gave his hoodie away. what you give is what you receive.
“thanks…” he smiled, finally removing it from your hands as he wore it gentlyーslightly desperate to be warm.
“i think your bus is here,” you told him as he glanced at the street.
“how did you know?”
“oh, i’ve seen you take that bus for quite a while now. i ride the next one,”
“oh..” he said and nodded. “i’ll wash your sweater and return it to you soon.”
“no worries,” you smiled at him as he went to get on the bus. he waved at you goodbye as your smile never left your lips until the bus was out of sight.
it wasn’t long after that seungmin went to the same bus stop every after the dismissal of his last class but you never showed up for days. the sweater stayed inside his bag too but he made sure that the fabric conditioner he used would remain on the soft material. sometimes he would wait for hours sitting on the bench and let his bus pass by. he wondered where you were, he didn’t even get to see you around campus after he knew you both had different schedules.
ha! college.
but he was sure he saw you that one random thursday talking to minho (his roommate) during lunch time but he was too shy to talk. he wanted to ask minho about you but it might give him a wrong idea that the younger one is interested. in which, seungmin is, indeed interested.
seungmin thought he was stupid for riding your bus home when he obviously should have been going on a different route. all this for the girl and her sweater? yes, seungmin. the bus stayed still for a while in that same bus stop he’d always sit on and wait for passengers to get on and off. it seems like today is a busy day when it started to become crowded minute after minute. seungmin sat down on a two-person seat and placed his bag beside him just in case you’d be there. he earned a few stares and avoided questions as he pretended to be asleep and had his right arm placed around his bag.
it was raining again as you were running late to catch your bus. your glasses started to fog as the raindrops looked like bubbles on the lenses. seungmin lost hope when he felt the bus start moving when your voice echoed and the bus stalled an inch from the stop.
“thank you!” you said, bowing to the driverーpressing your card on the scanner before looking for an empty seat. you saw seungmin a meter away with an excited smile formed on his lips as he gestured for you to come over and sit beside him.
“hi,” he greeted, taking his bag on his lap.
“hi.” you smiled back.
“here,” he replied as he handed you back your blue sweater. “you got soaked from the rain, did you?”
you didn’t know what to say and felt like laughing because of how funny it was. at first, you lend him your sweater to cover from the rain and now he’s returning it because you got drenched. you let out a soft giggle and took it away from his handーwearing it to feel its warmth. it also smells so good.
“thank you for lending me your sweater,” seungmin said. “i haven’t fully introduced myself, i’m seungmin. we shared a few minors last semester.” he added, reaching out for his hand for a shake.
“you’re welcome and i know you. nice to meet you, seungmin. i’m y/n.” you smiled and shook his hand. there was a blush on seungmin’s cheeks as his heart raced after he felt your warm, soft hands on his.
maybe the rain helped him to be close to you after all.

What do you know about young love?
It is caused by infatuation, that’s a sure guess. Yet sometimes it becomes serious after everyone considers it a simple crush.
It paints a smile unknowingly as they stare at the ceiling before they sleep. There’s a possibility that they won’t be able to because they keep on tossing and turning. Maybe stalk their crush’s social media trying to be careful not to press the heart button imprinted under an old photo, wonder if they also think of them, steal glances when no one else is looking, and always make sure that they’re doing good from afar, cheer for them secretly, daydreamingーJeongin was once like this.
A regular high school student who went to school like he usually does didn’t expect to fall in love with another schoolmateーthe one that made his heart fly with the clouds upon seeing you standing on a line at the gym during the orientation. Was it love at first sight? Or was it because he knew you were one of the top students while he was almost at the bottom of the rank out of 350 students in your batch?
It was the first. The second one was a plus.
His friends knew.
It was obvious how he skipped class just to walk past your classroom and when the teacher caught him, he’d profusely run away. Or there were times he’d slip letters into your locker on White Day, Valentine’s Day, finals week, or when he saw you feeling under the weather. Those letters were written anonymously with that horrible handwriting you could barely read but made you feel better.
He’d get into the same bus and leave at the same bus stop to ensure you get home safely. You thought he was living around the neighborhood when you saw him but never gave much attention to it. Lend you his umbrella when you didn’t have one so he’d run under the rain heading outside the campus without you getting a chance to say thank youーafter that, his friend recognized the umbrella sitting on Jeongin’s desk with a small note instead. Blood rushed to his cheeks upon reading the note as his friends teased him.
Jeongin was lovesick and you thought he was just being a gentleman. You were too busy to give it some time and he hid it even if his friends pushed him to confess, he didn’t.
Graduation passed by, and nothing happened. He kept it to himself, but he was fine admiring you from afar. He thought it was fine to go to college separately and forget about his first love. But there was this part of him that was not prepared to lose. He worked hard, studied hard, and had to take extra classes to take credits. Fortunately, he passed the entrance exam and decided to go to the same university. Although it wasn’t that easyーforget about getting high grades and class validectorianーthat was yours to take, but for him? Doing those things would write back to the question of what are you willing to do.
You noticed those fox-like eyes, the thing you always find cute ever since high school. Friendship arose between you and him when he finally took the courage to talk to you during a minor class you shared way back in the first year of college. It took him a year just to start a conversation by asking for an extra pen because he forgot his own. His sheepish smile captured your heart immediately and became comfortable after exchanging a few words. You became inseparable ever since. To you, it was the start of a new friendship but it goes deeper than that for him.
He wasn’t in the same major as you but shares minor classes when he gets the chance and even if your schedule doesn’t match, he’d find a way to see you, always.
Being friends with him made you crazy in some way. It has created a strong bond and happiness that fills the space of your heart. Laughs and cries were shared, and he talked a lot as you listen, it also highlighted your differences, the way he loves reading mangas while you prefer novels, the way he has siblings and you don’t, the way he loves skipping class and don’t give a fuck type of person while you encourage him to stay until the bell rings. Your grades have differed ever since high school and he admits that he was stupid and carefree. His clumsiness makes you laugh out loud making his heart leap constantly when he hears it every time even if you find it ugly erratically. And yet, he always carries the same dilemma; still, nothing comes out of his mouth.
And throughout the years in college, you’ve gotten so close that you can’t live without each other as if your day wouldn’t be complete without seeing him. Jeongin would complain how clingy you are but on the inside, he wanted to scream and run to the streets with his heart beating so loud. He was contented with having to stay in this relationshipーone that he could enjoy without malice.
Linking arms as you walk together, making everyone believe you are a couple, sharing a bag of chips during breaks, he’d open a can of carbonated drink so you wouldn’t waste your energy for it. He’s the guy you can drag around when you invite him. Choose clothes for him, try out the weird ones and take pictures in front of a mirror, ice cream dates, convenience store hang-outs, study dates even if he’s lazy, bursts in front of your door when you get sick, respects your opinion when it turns to be an opposite perspective from him, lend his shoulder for you to cry on, will sing trot songs to cheer you up, will bang the karaoke night with his beautiful voice, will kiss your forehead good night after he drops you off, Jeongin is that fucking green flag.
“I think the school is trying to kill us,”  You heard him say as you both sat on a table at a coffee shop with books scattered on the table. “Why do we have finals every other week? I have at least, 2 or 3 brain cells left. Could be worse though. Actually, I have none left.” He added while shaking his head and focused his eyes on the computerized texts. You could only laugh at him but he is hardworking.
“Don’t tire yourself too much just because you want to pass. Overworking yourself would only make your body weak. There is always a healthy way to pass. We are in this university to pass the exams, not pass away.” He would say as he watched you getting exhausted at the library on a Tuesday afternoon, studying and you called him to bring you food. “Do you want the second option? No? So eat! I don’t want to be the bastard who’d say ‘I told you so’ when you leave for the afterlife just because you’re abusing your body for a paper.”
“A paper that would determine our future, buddy.” You spat as he sighed like a grandmother losing patience.
“Shush, take a break!”
You are determined to keep him. Nobody cared as much as him, not even your parents. Those fox-like eyes, the cute smile that shows his dimples, his laugh that sounds funny yet comforting, he cares, he always does and even if he was just standing there, fireflies start to appear, sparkle and shine. You know Jeongin is a special one that you’d always put first and the one you will always choose above anyone else just like how he is treating you. He is the yellow color on a watercolor set, and as the brush comes in contact with the blank canvas, it paints a bright shade of happiness.
Of course, Jeongin doesn’t know that. You just like watching him have that serious face as he gets busy reading and annotating.
What do you even know, Yang Jeongin?
𖹭  ⁺
Two months passed and the day you didn’t want to come, arrived. You made it clear to yourself that birthdays are not important anymore now that you’re an adult. It became a regular day ever since your parents started fighting and it became a part of their routine. This day has been crossed out. It is a school day after all and something to forget.
The golden sunlight peeks through the glass windows reflecting the glass wind chimes and making rainbow lights on the flat surface of your designated table. It was a quiet afternoon at the local cafe, just across from the campus. Lo-Fi music was played in the speakers with the average volume as the crew asked for orders with their gentle yet hyper voices. Only a few customers decided to take a seat and do their work while others ran for a takeout, rushing minute after minute.
The abandoned cup of iced coffee had its water droplets forming a puddle at the bottom of where it was standing. It has been an hour since you started to study for your midterm as your dear friend is running late for a meeting. Jeongin.
The pen dances on the empty page of your iPad creating a font of your personalized handwriting. Summarizing a paragraph for annotating became a helpful habit. Jeongin was supposed to meet you a little bit early today but work got in the way and he almost forgot about you. But as a friend with good principles, he apologized multiple times on the phone and asked you to wait for him. And now, there he is with disheveled hair, a crumpled hoodie, untied shoelaces, and eyeglasses not being in their rightful place. He was a mess when he arrived, but even if he does, he is still as cute as ever.
“Fuck! I’m such a bad friend,” Jeongin groaned in disbelief while catching his breath after all the running. “Today’s your birthday and I didn’t even get you anything,” He added, placing his bag on the empty seat beside him. He knew it was a special day, and even if he felt like he had known you forever, he couldn’t decide what to give you.
“What’s the big deal? You know I don’t celebrate birthdays that much,” You smiled, tapping his shoulder for reassurance.
“Won’t you accept a Happy Birthday at least?” He asked, taking out a beige styrofoam bento box from a paper bagーopening it showing a small cake colored with (favorite color) and decorated with (specific design) with the words “Happy Birthday, Y/N!” You were in awe as your hand patted your chest, almost wanting to tear up.
“I thought you didn’t get me anything?” You asked with those teary eyes.
“Material things, as a gift? This cake is not included, unfortunately.” He said, stabbing the cake gently with a single candle and lit it with a match he brought with him. “This is the reason I’m late, so please accept and make a wish?”
You looked at him trying not to burst out crying about him being this thoughtful. It is your birthday indeed, everyone had said their greetings and gave you small gifts but you weren’t up for it. You appreciated them but at the same time, the sentiment didn’t feel the same as how Jeongin made the effort. It felt a little extra when he started singing the happy birthday song with his head tilting from side to sideーdancing to the rhythm. He felt warmth in his heart the moment he saw how blissed out you wereーhands being clasped together, closing your eyes shut with your brows knitted together as you made a wish quietly before blowing the flame away. It was cute.
“Yay!” He beamed, clapping his hands in joy. “What did you wish for?”
“Silly, we don’t say wishes out loud. They might not come true,” You smiled. “Thank you, Innie but, don’t push yourself too much about giving me a gift,” You added, sliding your iPad inside the bag to make space on the table.
“I am going to push myself Y/N,” He said with a grin showing his adorable dimples. “And, are you still going to drink this? I’m thirsty,” He added, pointing at the half-empty cup of iced coffee you ignored for the past hour.
“Innie, that’s not water,” You spat as he shrugged his shoulders, taking it for his consumption. Shaking your head at his behavior, only a soft chuckle escaped from your lips.
“Coffee runs in my blood,” He said after burping making you sigh in response. “But anyway, I don’t care if you love birthdays or hate them, I will fulfill something for you.” He added as you raised a brow at him in confusion. “What I mean is tell me something that you want before the day is over,” And that was the best he could offer.
“Are you for real?” You asked. “The cake is enough,”
“No, it’s not. I mean, the cake is from me and you didn’t ask for it. I gave it to you out of my will and it’s rare of me to be this generous, so just tell me anything,” He said with a cocky smile on his face while crossing his arms on his chest. “I want you to ask something and I’m going to wait until midnight for you to tell me what you want. Although I can’t give it in a snap, whatever.”
“What if I don’t?” You asked again making him frown in response.
“Then I guess I’ll have to wait for your birthday next year,” He answered, puffing his cheeks with a scoff of disappointment. “But I’m not forcing you, okay? It’s still up to you. I mean my gift is not always a material thing that satisfies your wants, it can be quality time or if you need a pretend boyfriend because someone has been pestering you and you don’t want it or if it’s something more than what I can provide I willー” He was baffled when he heard you laugh and tilted his head like a curious kit (a baby fox). “What?”
“Listen, Yang. You, coming to see me at this hour and giving me this cute cake is already a gift,” You said which made him utterly speechless and dumbfounded. Jeongin looked at you with wonder and confusion, his heart was about to go crazy at any minute now. You didn’t know how much impact he had with only one sentence.
He is enough.
“Fine,” He smiled in defeat as he proceeded to fix his clothes. “But I’m still going to wait until midnight. If you need anything.”
“Of course,” You said with a reassuring smile.
“Good, now eat.” He said gesturing to the cake with his hand while handing you a fork.
“Thank you!” Beaming at the sight of it, you shoved an average slice of cake in your mouth and loved it at first bite.
Getting distracted today is enough and how could you read or study when a human-sized fox appeared out of nowhere with a bento cake in a hand? A leisure, an escape from this poor life. Celebrating your birthday, even for a short while, wasn’t so bad after all. Especially when it’s only you and him together. Never in your life have you had the chance to celebrate your day, thanks to your parents who always get themselves into a never-ending argument, and your lack of free time.
You saw him taking a full bite of the cake and felt perplexed. It was normal, indeed. He loves to eat and shove bigger food portions as if someone would steal them away. It made you smile even more. He kept adjusting his glasses on the bridge of his nose as he ate, his cheeks puffed as they were being stuffed, that innocent look. He’s the cutest out of everyone. Nothing could ever top this moment unless your feelings would grow out from the bottle you’ve kept for a while.
“We finished it.” He said as you realized the bento box was empty but had crumbs in it.
“Oh.” You answered.
“I should’ve gotten a bigger one for you to enjoy at home,” He laughed sheepishly while rubbing the back of his head. “Maybe later? You didn’t tell me what you want, just yet.”
“We’ll see about that,” You smiled. “Aren’t you supposed to be at practice right now? You’re running late too. I didn’t notice the time.”
“Am I?” He panicked and glanced over his wristwatch. “Fuck!”
“It’s fine, Innie, you can leave.” You said, shoving everything inside your bag and tidying up the tableーprepared to be left alone. For sure, Jeongin would rush to leave but he didn’t even move one bit. Thinking about going home has made you grow tired for the day. You didn’t want him to leave either and spend the rest of the day together. Yet he would leave, eventually and you’ll be forced to go home and be welcomed loneliness. The day is a few hours away before midnight. What could happen?
“I’ll leave when you leave.” He said.
“But you’re late. Seungmin and the guys are waiting for you,” You answered while he shook his head in response.
“You always worry,” He answered, shaking his head with that silly smile. “It’s fine. I can be a little late. Do you want to go home instead?”
“I will,” You smiled bitterly. “Thanks for the cake though. I loved it.”
“You’re welcome,” He beamed as you both left the cafe. The happy thoughts died down when the word home came into the conversation as you left.
The bustling sounds of people getting out from their respective work and students going home are always a sight in a big city. Students from your university hurried home, others had other plans, and some had to leave for their part-time jobs or just chill somewhere not wanting to go home yet but didn’t have much choice and Jeongin was leaving in a few minutes. You decided to sit down on the bench just like the other people hanging around while waiting for the bus to arrive.
You were sure Jeongin was talking about how things went during his practice yesterday but that information didn’t sink in. You hated the loud sounds of the city, but it is what keeps it alive. Never a dull moment you’d spend a day lurking around and finding something that catches your eye. They talk loudly, they talk to themselves, others are occupied and you don’t know what’s for you. A gloomy day even if the sun is up and ready to set. Your birthday will end soon.
Jeongin caught you spacing out after a while of talking about his day and how excited he is if ever you tell him something you want. And yet, he couldn’t blame you for it. The midterm is fast approaching, your parents forgetting your birthday, and the loneliness you feel every time you come home. If only he could do something to cheer you other than his presence.
“Are you okay?” He asked, snapping you back to reality.
“Huh? Yeah, yeah,” You smiled awkwardly. “Sorry, what were you saying?” But Jeongin only shook his head and smiled at you.
“Your bus is here,” He said, pointing at the red bus as it parked in front of the people getting off, and people get in.
“Oh, right,” You said, taking your bag and hanging a strap on your shoulder. “I’ll see you around Jeongin,” You added standing up and heading towards the bus.
“Y/n!” He called that and made you turn around.
“Yeah?” You asked. He was ready to say itーready to risk your friendship on the day of birth but he held himself together and wasn’t able to relay words in the next few seconds. There was a pause as if he was hesitating. Hands balled into fists, Jeongin didn’t want to ruin this day any further for you.
“Happy birthday,” He said. “I hope you enjoyed our little birthday date. Get home safely, yeah?”
“I did, don’t worry and I will!” You smiled. “Thank you, Innie.” He smiled back and leaned forward to kiss your forehead.
The loud beating of your hearts started to be heard and you both knew it was normal. The hidden feelings show in his acts of service but you were determined that it was because he is your friend. He was waving at you goodbye as he watched your bus leave the shed before turning around, and walking away. It was sweet and endearing yet he exhaled heavily, mentally choking himself for almost spilling his secret. He took another deep breath while tugging the strap of his bag on his shoulder as he stood there stuck at the thought. Better stay quiet for a bit and upon ruffling his hair, he the bus stop.
You sat beside the window with a middle-aged woman taking the empty seat next to yours. It was full, the driver was focusing on the road, others were chilling with their phones and some girls in high school were giggling over something. Too bad Jeongin doesn’t constantly witness this because of his agenda. A son of a rich man who wanted to pass the throne to his children but at the same time he had a business to do on his own一you too is a part of a wealthy family but you were consistently ignored by the fact that your parents are always busy, and full of arguments. No siblings to mess with, just you who go along with life. You could’ve gotten a place on your own but the house already made you feel that you’re living alone. Your dad is a workaholic man who always has business trips and your mother is always busy in the law firm that she owns. You got used to it, the loneliness, how to take care of yourself, and the peace of having the house all by yourself. But when they come home, it starts to get messy.
And your hunch was right, you were welcomed by their mess.
“What a day,” You sighed quietly.
You shake your head at the sight of themーtheir voices echoing through the room to the walls. The same argument they always have. You’re growing tired of it every time and no one even bothered about your presence when you announced you were home. Words keep repeating all over again, you hate it and it’s not even 7 pm. You wish you had gotten a place on your own to avoid this commotion as you were expecting less of their presence tonight. You thought your dad was away and your mother doing overtime, but everyone ended up here. You ignored them and went straight to the kitchen to cook some ramen and waffles for dinner. Nobody cared inside this household and you can’t help but cry sometimes. It affects every piece of you and it is all about small things to the bigger ones.
A sigh escaped your lips as you washed your dishes and headed upstairs with your belongings, washed up and getting ready to study again, but their voices still echo. Your mother never stops babbling nonsense and your dad gets angry every time she speaks of rubbish. Their professionalism disappears when it comes to this. Slamming your hands on the table, you grabbed your phone and slid a few things inside your backpack before calling Jeongin. You remembered his offer and it was the only escape you haveーyou needed to get out of there not caring about what time of night it was. Jeongin’s phone rang in the middle of his break, he was supposed to go overtime for the dance practice and head to his father’s office afterward but priorities came first. He saw your name on the screen and immediately picked it up while drinking his energy drink.
“What’s up?” He asked, showing his excitement. “Have you decided anything yet?”
“Kind of,” You sighed heavily.
“Are your parents home?” He asked again as his smile faded when there was a long pause before you could even answer. “Want me to pick you up?”
“Aren’t you busy?” You asked, worried about his welfare.
“I can ditch them for you. They’ll understand, eventually,” He chuckled which made you smile on the other line though he couldn’t see it and that’s when Hyunjin suddenly glared at him.
“You’re leaving?” He asked as Jeongin placed his index finger telling the older boy to shut up. Hyunjin dramatically got offended.
“Should I leave now?” Jeongin asked as you sighed in disbelief. You didn’t have much choice either and you want to get out of this fucking household.
“Can you? Look if you can’t it’s fine. I’ll just go somewhere and go home later.” You answered when Jeongin rushed out of the room. Chan had to yell at him but the younger one made an excuse. It is a Friday night anyway, he needed the time to get out and leave early. But all he thinks about is you and he knows exactly what’s going on.
“I’m running to the parking lot as we speak. Meet me at the convenience store a block away, yeah? Be there in 10.” Without even waiting for your answer, he dropped the call. You sneaked outside of your house and ran to your meeting place.
It was cold. Summer is almost at its end and the surroundings are preparing for the fall season. The stars were shining bright but the moon was hiding behind those gray clouds that used to be silver and white during the day. You stood outside the store as the streets slowly came to be quiet. A few people walking around, a stray cat just passed by, and two kids eating sausages as they talked about the latest animeーit felt less lonely to be outside. A sigh of relief escaped from your lips as you hugged yourself from the cold and now you wait.
Not a moment later, Jeongin parked his car in front of the store and headed outside, only to be welcomed with a tight hug and a desperate sense of feeling that you wanted to leave. His arms wrapped around your shoulders, enveloping your figure as he heard sobs coming from you. It was weird. You were used to your parents fighting all the time and sometimes you get in between. Your body became immune and eventually stopped crying ages ago but why did your tears stream to your cheeks when you saw him? What would you do without him?
He stood there, clenching his jaw because of your parents again. He hates it when you cry, he doesn’t like it when you get hurt, and he gets angry if something bad is going on especially when it involves youーyou’re just too precious to him.
“Where do you want to go?” He asked, skipping to ask questions related to the problem.
“Anywhere but here,” You said in between your sobs. Jeongin kissed the crown of your head, opening the passenger seat’s door before signaling you to go inside. He had to jog around and drive away. What’s the point of keeping you in that hellhole just to suffer?
And yet, you had no idea where you wanted to go.
𖹭  ⁺
Jeongin drove slowly as your head rested on his shoulder watching the car take the road. The radio plays a song from Lany that matches the vibe of a quiet night and relates to the situation you just had. His eyes kept glancing at your side while yours were fixed at the front. Only a small smile painted on his lips was shown. You were hugging his arm, drowning in deep thoughts about what just happenedーwhat a day, indeed.
You tried to be happy, at least.
“Are you hungry?” He asked.
“No,” You answered. “I just ate.”
“Any places you wanted to go?” He asked again.
“I seriously have nothing in mind,” You sighed. Jeongin suddenly parked the car by the sidewalk, probably kilometers away from the city proper. The streetlights were on and a few cars passing by. “Why did we stop?” You asked, pulling away from him and sitting properly on your designated seat.
“Just making sure everything’s fine before we go.” He answered as you cocked your head.
“I’m fine?” You told him as his hands cupped your cheeks upon seeing that glum expression of yours behind that facade. It made you caught off guard as your heart started throbbing heavily as if it was pumping more blood than usual.
“You know how I hate it seeing you like this, can you smile for me?” You stared at him for a few secondsーeyes softening at the sight of him, and nodded again, smiling halfheartedly as he kissed your forehead. I hope he knows how my heart is racing right now. What are we, Jeongin?
His face says it all. He’s worried yet he couldn’t bring up some words to make you forget about your sadness. Happiness is temporary and one gesture of pain can push it away. The same goes for what he did that only lasted for an hour and your parents’ ruined it. Yet, you were sure that didn’t matter for now as your happiness was driving you away from the mess.
From the urban scenery to rural and none, the highway became quiet. Streetlights have become rare ever since passing by the citadel. You weren’t bothered by it. Just follow the road. You said it doesn’t matter where. A lightbulb suddenly appeared above Jeongin’s head upon learning that he gets to decide.
“Are you sure anything is fine?” He asked just to be sure.
“Yes.” You answered firmly.
“Okay then,” He said. “There’s this place we went to in high school.” His car entered a pathway heading to a forest, one that was starting to creep the shit out of you when it got fully dark out. The asphalted road ended a few miles ago as the car went deeper into this unfamiliar place. Not a few moments later, Jeongin turned the vehicle around near a body of water.
“Where are we?” You asked, searching for signage around but nothing and it was too dark. The car’s wheels were creating crushing sounds on the ground as the rubber tires ran through some pebbles and not a few seconds later, Jeongin stopped.
“Here we are!” He beamed as he left the lights on.
“Isn’t it a little scary?” You asked again as he got down and opened the door for you.
“No, this place is safe.” He reassured.
“How did you know this place?”
“Ahh, summer camp in high school.” He said with a proud smile. “You said to go anywhere so I brought you here! Don’t worry, this place is safe and I’m with you so if someone’s out there, we’ll die together.” He added as he placed his hand on his chest making you smack his arm in response. “Ow!”
“Be serious! Yeah, I know I told you to go anywhere but,” You sighed.
“But what?” Jeongin asked, rubbing his arm as you looked at him.
“Nothing,” You smiled. “I’d be happy to die with you.”
Jeongin was caught off guard by what you just said. If he’d be honest he would climb that slope that leads to the top of the waterfalls a few miles away from here and jump to the plunge pool.
“You love me that much huh?” Jeongin smirked as you rolled your eyes.
“You know the answer to that,” You chuckled and started to walk away.
Yes, he does, but it doesn’t tell the whole story about the definition of that kind of love. You were just friends somewhere in nowhere because of your wish to leave your home for quite a while. Jeongin is actually happy inside. He followed you to the side of the river a few meters away from where he parked his car.
“Do you feel better?” He asked as you took the direction heading to the slope.
“I do now. Thanks to you,” You smiled, shoving your hands inside your pockets. “What can we do around here?” You asked.
“Well, I can set up the car so we can stay the night here and watch the sunrise together.” He shrugged. “I got the materials at the back of the car anyway.”
“Sounds good.”
“Yeah, I feel like you won’t ask me to take you home any time now.” You heard him laugh as you giggled in response. The sounds of the grass getting crushed by your shoes were loud as the crickets sang through the quiet atmosphere with all the fireflies in the air having their lights shine and fade simultaneously. “And since you’re asking about something we can do, can I suggest something?”
“Sure! What is it?” You asked him.
“I told you that this slope would take us to the top of the waterfalls right?” He asked, pointing to the waterfalls as you nodded. “We can jump off and go night swimming in the plunge pool!”
“What? In our clothes?” You asked, shocked.
“Yeah! Don’t worry, I brought extra just in case.”
It seemed like a crazy idea but doing it isn’t going to be bad after all. Maybe it is risky that it made your heart skip a beat after hearing what he just said. Jeongin seemed excited as he might have done it before during the summer camp but it was a bit challenging to take it in a snap. You looked at him as if he was insane with that unsure expression you have in your face but Jeongin chuckled upon realizing the danger of his words.
“You don’t have to do it if you’re not comfortable.” He said, still having that smile on his face. “You can watch me dive!” He added as he earned a smack on his arm from you.
“You’re crazy, aren’t you?” You told him. He was caught off guard by how it sounded from your mouth. It’s like you became upset and worried about what might happen. He was about to apologize when you kissed his cheek out of nowhere making his heart leap and cheeks were brushed with pink. “The last one to get there is a fucking loser!” You laughed as you ran to the top.
Jeongin was left dumbfounded and frozen on his spot. He shouldn’t be this obvious as he takes his hand on the spot where you kissed him. It felt different this time that you were both alone and far from the crowd. A once normal routine became to feel something else. Maybe if there were people around, he would stop but the beating of his heart and the urge to capture your lips are a different story. He wanted to, but he couldn’t and it took him a minute before realizing you were gone as he followed you to the top.
The thoughts of you won’t leave him. He became so distracted after it that he couldn’t hear what you were saying when he stood beside you as you watched the water flow down and the sounds of it were loud to soften the volume of your voice. It wasn’t a harsh body of water and you were ready to jump and feel the coldness of them. You knew it would be, somehow, unsure and dangerous but, Who cares? It’s my birthday and my best friend is with me. I only live once and jumping to the water down there wouldn’t be a problem. Right?
“Jeongin! Hello, earth to Jeongin?” You called, snapping your fingers in front of his face when he noticed he became quiet.
“What?” He asked, finally coming back to reality.
“Are you okay? You seemed hot.” You asked him, worried as you placed your palm on his forehead which made him more flustered. “If you’re going to chicken out, it’s fine!”
“No!” He said, frightening you. “We’ll jump together.” He added as you giggled.
“Okay, should we hold hands?” You said, reaching out your hand to him. He couldn’t hide the redness of his cheeks now and his hands were cold. He was thankful that it was dark and the lights were only provided by the full moon and his car below, facing the river. Jeongin wasn’t nervous about jumping, he was nervous because of you. It is what it is.
He looked at you and nodded as he took your hand, tightening its grip so it wouldn’t be easy to let go. You smiled at him, giving your full trust. You know it’s crazy but you’re willing to take the risk after all and when everything is on the water, who would know what can you do?
“On the count of three. 1…” Jeongin started.
“2…” You continued.
“3!” You both screamed in unison as you jumped off the waterfalls and went down on the plunge pool hearing a loud splash against the cold water. It took a few seconds before both of you could reach the surface and wipe your faces with your hands to dry them off. You both looked at each other and laughed at the excitement and thrill that you felt regarding what just happened.
It was, indeed, fun. But not until the laughs died down as your eyes locked. Jeongin’s eyes went to your lips as the urge to kiss you became stronger. You waited for him as you fell into silence with that awkward yet serious atmosphere. It wasn’t long after that, you felt his hand on your cheeks as your lips met his. He couldn’t stop himself anymore. At first, it felt soft, shy, and gentle the moment you closed your eyes to kiss him back. He’s over the moon with it as he pulls you closer to his body and your arms wrapped around his neck to finally accept it wholeheartedly.
Jeongin wasn’t expecting anything in return but he was surprised and thankful that you reciprocated his feelings back. Your lips were warm and soft as they touched his, quietly making a sound. Jeongin tilts his head to capture your lips even more as they go deeper and hotter despite the wetness and cold of the water flowing against your bodies. He pushed himself even closer to you as the kiss became urgent and desperate. You don’t want to protest from it as you wanted this as well. Your fingers reached for his black locks as he let out a soft grunt.
The evening air felt warmer than cold. You didn’t know if it was the body heat that projected the temperature. The serene moonlight and the stars shone in the sky as the fireflies flew around as they witnessed a love that finally reached the surface. You and Jeongin stood there, feeling the warmth as your hearts raced with your kisses sending jolts of electricity down to your nerves.
He pressed his forehead against yours after you both pulled away from each other’s lips. “I’ve always wanted to do that…” He said as he kissed your forehead and hugged you tight.
“I’ve always wanted to be kissed by you.” You said, burying your face in his neck, and hugging him back. “I like you so much, Innie.” You added, looking at him. It was true and proven, those fox-like eyes and the big smile he painted on his lips felt like the world stopped for a while as the fireflies lit up around him. “I see fireflies when you smile.”
“My heart didn’t stop beating for you ever since we were in high school. I wanted to tell you before but I couldn’t. I worked hard to go to the same college as you and every bit of it was worth it. I’m sorry I took long enough, I didn’t want to ruin anything about us.” He said, taking the went strands of your hair behind your ears. “How long did you have feelings for me?”
“Quite a while now,” You said taking his hand and kissing the back of it. “Same sentiment but maybe this time, it would feel different.” He couldn’t hide his smile and feelings anymore that he kissed you again as a sign of making it official.
This relationship is finally sealed with a kiss.
“Is it a bad choice that I didn’t bring clothes?” You asked as you both headed back to the car.
“I told you I brought extra so you can borrow mine.” Jeongin giggled as he held your hand tight.
“You’re my savior.” You said, kissing his cheek making him flustered.
“Oh come on. I still get shy when you kiss me.” Jeongin pouts as you laugh, giving him a quick kiss on the lips.
“It wasn’t that bad when we didn’t know we had feelings for each other.” You answered, rolling your eyes as Jeongin scoffed while taking his bag inside.
“Go inside and change, I’ll wait here.” He said.
“Okay,” You smiled, took his bag, and went inside the car. Jeongin picked up a few pieces of firewood around to make a fire. He sat down on a log as he waited for you to finish when suddenly he heard the car’s door open, revealing you wearing his shirt. Jeongin started blushing hard when he realized it suited you. It made his heart go crazy that he wanted to jump from the waterfalls again.
“You look beautiful,” He blurted out as you smiled widely, slowly getting shy.
“You should go change too. I’ll let these dry,”
“Okay, just sit here, alright? Keep warm.” He answered as he went to kiss your cheek before going in.
Not long after that, you sat down on a log as you both warmed up yourselves by the fire until it died down. You left your clothes outside to dry and settled at the back of the car to lay down together and cuddle. Jeongin’s arm snaked around your shoulder as your head rested on his chest, hugging him tight. It was the most comfortable position you ever had as he pulled up the covers so you could rest up soon.
“This is the best birthday gift you’ve ever given me.” You said.
“It feels like it’s my birthday too.” He said as his fingers played with your hair. “I also received one.” He laughed.
“Thank you, Innie.” You said, glancing up at him as he kissed your forehead in response.
“Anything for you.” He said. “We should go to sleep.”
“Okay,” You answered, scooting closer to him as he wrapped his arms around your waist to hug you even more.
“Good night, love.”
“Good night, Innie.”
And as the day ended, you were happy how you came hereーto be hugged and kissed by the boy you loved secretly for years, it felt like a dream. A dream that became your reality.
Bonus:
You woke up the next day with your phone ringing nonstop. Jeongin started panicking when he received 99+ messages and 325 missed calls from both parents and friends. You were also in the same state as you opened your phone, cursing and rattling inside the car first thing in the morning.
“We’re fucked.” Jeongin blurted out as he moved out from the back of the car.
“I am so dead.” You said getting worried and nervous at the same time.
“We should hurry!”
“Should we make the bed first?” You asked.
“Leave it and sit here now. I’ll take care of that later!” Jeongin said as he started the engine and you hurriedly took the passenger’s seat. He immediately stepped on the gas as the car drove back to the highway heading back to the city. Meanwhile, you are starting to get more nervous about how to explain everything that happened. You were about to call your mom when Jeongin saw you.
“Who are you calling?” He asked.
“My mom. Dad and her are so pissed. What am I going to say?” You asked him, biting your lower lip.
“You’re not going to tell them what happened to us, are you? I mean the kiss and jumping off the waterfalls? They might kill me, Y/N!” Jeongin cried while driving.
“Relax, Innie. I won’t.” You sighed. “What about you? I’m sure everyone is worried. Did you tell anyone?” You asked.
“No. I just left without saying anything and my lips are sealed if you don’t want me to tell a story.” Jeongin answered as he stole a glance at you upon realizing something. “Should we leave them curious?” He smirked which made you smirk as well.
“Oh, hell yes.”
“It’s a deal then.”

jealous roommate hyunjin.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
for my beloved @hyunebunx i hope you like it <𝟑 ; just jealous hyunjin ft. seungmin, 700+ wc, cursing, kissing, fluff — inspired by this gif set.
𖹭 ⁺
“take that off.” hyunjin grumbled when you two arrived at your shared dorm room.
“what do you mean take that off?” you asked, being caught off guard.
“that fucking hoodie.” he said.
getting caught in the rain wasn’t part of your plan after your last class ended a few moments ago. seungmin, being a gentleman, lent you his hoodie as he ran through the rain with his hands above his head. hyunjin saw that as he walked out of the same building which made him sigh in annoyanceーrunning his fingers through his black long locks, and biting his tongue. the absence of your umbrellas was a mistake in this unpredictable weather.
he threw the hood above his head as his hands were inside his pockets, walking past by and you saw him exiting the premises in a rush. you called his name multiple times but he didn’t even bother to look at what was behind him and continued to walk at a fast pace. damn his long legs.
and that’s how you both ended up here.
hyunjin tossed his bag on the couch and took off his own hoodie, tossing it again to the same side as he took a seat on the carpeted floor, ruffling his hair in frustration. you were confused as to why when you’ve never seen him like this before. or maybe you did.
“seungmin was just being nice,” you shrugged as he rolled his eyes, poking his inner cheek with his tongue.
“well fuck yes he was! and it’s not fucking raining inside our dorm so take that off!” it was unusual for hyunjin to behave like this but you were sure that something was behind that behavior.
“fine, fine!” you scoffed. “chill! i was going to and just tell me that you don’t like it when you see someone wearing seungmin’s hoodie just because you like him. i would’ve understand,” you smirked.
“what the fuck do you mean i like him?” he hissed, giving you a weird look.
“oh please, don’t be defensive.” you replied, slowly taking off seungmin’s hoodie and straightening your clothes. hyunjin sighed harshly in response to what you’ve just said, glaring at you while running his fingers through his hair.
“i don’t think of him that way.” he defended.
“then why are you so worked up about this?” you asked trying to make him say something.
hyunjin inhaled an amount of air before sighing again for the nth time only to stand up and pin you against the wall with his hands on both sides of your head, trapping you in it. he was looking at you with those captivating eyes and he seemed jealous over something. it was unexpected for that to happen and he couldn’t hold himself anymore. at first, he let all the people around be nice to you because you deserve that kind of treatment but seeing seungmin took care of that moment earlier, his own fucking best friend made him fume in anger inside.
“i don’t like seeing you wearing other people’s clothes, y/n.” he said, making eye contact. “not from seungmin, not from anyone.” you admit it was hot of him to be like this as your heart started beating faster than its usual pace and rhythm, and the blush on your cheeks is probably visible now. if only hyunjin could point them out. you knew he was jealous and was just waiting for him to say something. and you teasing him about seungmin is just a way to make him state the obvious.
“fine.” you said, crossing your arms to your chest. “only if you tell me why.”
but he didn’t tell, instead, you felt his lips on yours.
his soft, plump, hot lips, are coated over yours as they move gently tasting the aftertaste of the coffee you had this afternoon to keep you awake. your hands snaked around his neck as he captured your lips further and deeper with his fingers scratching the wallpaper behind you. it was the only thing that you’d been waiting for. he wasn’t expecting for you to kiss him back but he indulged that moment and hugged you tight. you stood closely as your bodies pressed together, feeling each other’s warmth and unspoken connection.
and that was it, you both didn’t need to validate how you felt.
“took you long enough,” you smirked against his lips.
“shut up.” he protested before he continued to kiss you again.

𖹭 ⁺ ONE.
To be loved by Seungmin is like a beautiful dream you didn’t want to wake up from. It also visualizes the satisfaction of how you finally completed a puzzle and he was the last missing piece or that sigh of success after finishing a 400-page novel in one sitting. You didn’t know how you ended up here. Maybe there were a few scenarios in which you were crazy enough to capture his heart as well. And for that matter, how did everything start?
A rainy day in the middle of spring had brought an unexpected turn of events. The to-do list was just as simple as counting from 1 to 10, but it became difficult, like a math problem, for someone who hates numerical methods. It all began with a bold confession you’ve seen in dramas based on the execution. Seungmin stood two meters away with his back turned against you while you were shedding tears, ready to be rejected. You didn’t want to repeat those words, and if you did, it would only make him go insane.
“Why don’t you buy me lunch after your thesis defense? ”He said, and that’s what happened. But instead of thanking him, stupid, you confessed your damn feelings while he was enjoying his food. He stopped moving his mouth and had his hand drop the fork on his plate, trying to process your sentence.
“I like you.” It’s just that simple, and he should understand what it means as someone who is always at the top of the class. But it seems hard to fathom, especially when those words come from you. “I like you, Seungmin.” He scoffed at it the second time he heard it, but you were taking all the risks.
Why?
You were supposed to be friends, but what he did throughout college made you think it was more than that when he was just being nice, or that’s what you thought.
He was the one who made sure you’d get home safely every night when your strict professor dismissed you late or you had to stay on campus until midnight. He knows your full schedule every semester, knows the exact components of your to-go drink, knows what you like or don’t like, knows your favorite band, and even bought you their albums as a gift for your birthday, he’d make sure no one would bother you if you fell asleep in the library, he helped you when you were struggling on your homework and stayed up all night with you, he was there when you needed a shoulder to cry on and said “Just tell me your worries,” or when Mr. Park almost flunked you in one of your majors or just let you cry whatever the reason behind those tears that he wanted to wipe away with his thumbs—Seungmin was that kind of friend.
And now, there you were. The sounds of the rain replaced the quiet and awkward atmosphere. He looked at you as if you were insane, and why did the need to mention it now after all the wasted time? Not in a public space, Y/N, not in private either! You were sweating in the cold like a convict who was lying about the crime they committed, and your hands were shaking so much that you couldn’t stab the food with your fork. Was confessing this hard? You were ready to be rejected either way because Seungmin silently judged you to the moon and back.
He took the last bite and drank his iced tea in one gulp before grabbing his coat as he exited the restaurant in the blink of an eye. You were left dejected, but you knew you couldn’t just let him go home without a full essay from your mouth about what just happened.
“Seungmin, wait! ”You called upon following him outside while letting the rain pour above your head. No umbrellas were brought. “Seungmin! ”
There was no response again as he continued walking. Seungmin was already a few meters away from the restaurant when you got out. Was he a fast walker? People started to stare at the both of you, but he didn’t even bother to take a glance at what was behind him. You didn’t want to do it, but you just wanted to end the day without saying your feelings—not on graduation day, not after, but now. And being shunned made you feel restless.
“Seungmin Sky Kim! ”Not the full name, but it made him stop by the sidewalk. Seungmin sighed heavily, his broad shoulders dropping and just letting the rain soak his black locks. You’re not expecting him to turn around and just go finish what you started while standing two meters away. With the rain adding to the dramatic effect, tears being covered by the raindrops, and people watchingーthose words finally came to life.
“It doesn’t matter whether you turn around, but please hear me out! ”You said, breathing heavily. “You told me to tell you my thoughts, feelings, worries, and whatever the hell I have here in my heart, but we’re out here in the rain with your back turned against me, avoiding me,” It was loud enough for everyone to hear, and it was bold of you to do it in public when he knew you were against yourself doing public speech, but here you are. “I like you, Seungmin! I like you so much that it bothers me because I might not be able to see you after graduation. I just don’t want to keep it anymore, and I want to tell you everything. I’m sorry if it’s making you feel uncomfortable or if I’m ruining our friendship because of what I am saying. I can handle it,” You added in between your sobs. “I tried so hard not to have any attachment aside from being friends, and I know you were just being nice, and you helped me a lot. I’m sorry if I loved you more than that when I’m supposed to be just appreciating and thanking you for always being with me. I loved you as a friend, and I love you as someone who sees more than what you think about yourself. Please don’t hate me. You can do whatever you want after this. Just don’t hate me.”
Seungmin didn’t say anything, as he was still standing there as if someone had told him to freeze on his spot when you just called out his full name. Everyone was waiting—not just you, but all the people watching as if you were shooting a scene for an upcoming melodrama type of movie.
“Are you not going to say anything? ” You asked, wiping your face along with tears that got mixed up with the rain. “Seungmin? ” You called once again.
Seungmin didn’t know how to react or what to say after that bold move. What was the purpose of being nice to you? At first, it was pure. It doesn’t usually happen, as he was picky in terms of having friends in college, and he was happy when you fully embraced him. You did things for him when he was the one in need, made sure he ate on time in between his busy schedules, let him sleep in your apartment since it’s just a block away from campus, brightened his day when it felt gloomy, the one who treats him like a literal puppy whenever you get cuteness aggression, the one who accompanied him into several road trips where you share gossips, the one he brought home to his parents during the holidays because you are always his first choiceーfuck the rest of his homies (lovingly), the one who made his heart melt every time he sees you happy… maybe he needed that bold confession of yours to realize something.
You were ready to leave after minutes of waiting and calling for his name, only for him to turn around and actually say something. Just one more minute. Another minute for nothing.
“You know what? It’s fine; you can go. Thank you for listening anyway. Have a nice life, Seungmin.” You smiled, although he couldn’t see. “Show’s over, everyone. Have a nice day,” you added while clapping your hands as the people around you started to whisper to each other.
“Poor girl,”
“Well, that’s how loving someone sometimes, you can’t guarantee they'll return it.”
“Damn, at least say something.”
It wasn’t the pressure from the crowd. There was no pressure at all. It was just him; he was confused and didn’t know what to do. But if you were this bold to tell the whole world that you love him, then it’s time to make a decision.
Everyone was still waiting, even if you had already dismissed them, and not expecting anything from him, but suddenly he turned around, dropped his coat on the wet, cold cement of that fucking sidewalk, and went straight in your direction at a fast pace. You waited for him, and so everyone finally got what they were waiting for him to do. His warm hands were placed on your cheeks as his lips collided with yours. There was a spark. It was so sweet and delicate that it made something melt inside of you. Both of your hearts are racing and your cheeks are burning due to the blood rush.
You get why everyone was loud around the streets of Seoul. Seungmin didn’t let go of you that easily as your bodies pressed together. His lips tasted like what he just consumed with a mixture of iced tea. They were warm and soft, and you could feel his breath as it tickled your nose. It was like a dream or something that only happens on television, or like how a prince kisses a princess for the first time. It is indeed the first time.
“It took you long enough to say it,” he said upon pulling away. You sniffed in response and looked down at your shoes, getting soaked.
“It took you long enough to turn around,” you said, wiping your nose as your eyes met the moment you looked at him. His hands were still warm on your cheeks as he painted a smile on those delicate lips of his that you finally had the opportunity to kiss.
“That was abrupt. I didn’t know what to do,” he chuckled. You didn’t need Seungmin to say the same words in return. That kiss was enough.
“I understand.” You smiled as he planted another kiss on your lips.
“May we go now? We’re going to get sick at this point,” he suggested, making you giggle in response.
“Of course.” Before you did, Seungmin kissed you on the forehead and picked up his coat. A little girl threw petals on your path as a sign of congratulations to you and the other citizens who witnessed such an event.
𖹭 ⁺ TWO.
You believed that you couldn’t find love; instead, love finds you at the perfect time. Seungmin came out of nowhere. It’s like how Isaac Newton discovered gravity after an apple fell above his head or that unexpected strike of lightning in the sky even if there was no hint of bad weather. But thoughts aside, how does it feel to love Seungmin?
It feels like heaven on the inside.
To expand its denotation, Seungmin is the angel that the heavens sent you when you needed someone, especially during those trying times during college, and his role in your life grew as the days, seasons, and years passed by.
It’s beautiful, like a lit candle on the windowsill that serves as your light when the electricity is off. It’s unexpected and accidental, like the spilled ink on an architecture student’s tracing paper that was supposedly a mistake, and yet it made a curious pattern instead. It’s exhilarating, like that portrait of you and him being hung on the wall at his parents’ house, which was taken on that one holiday when he brought you home with him and played video games together, sabotaging him, which made him say, “If I lose, it’s your fault! ”Then you would just laugh it off. It’s refreshing, like watching the ocean and other scenery as the train passes by through the city.
Your heart raced every time you couldn’t sleep until 1 a.m. and would say, “It’s probably because of the coffee.” which you had a few hours earlier, which is not. Blame them for whatever you want; Seungmin is the sole reason behind everything you feel. He’d kiss you in public like a gentleman but becomes dominant when it’s just the two of you; he doesn’t say empty words on those intimate nights and is truly a man of his word. He nags you because he cares; he protects you because he doesn’t want you to get hurt; he treasures you because you’re precious to him; and he needs you because he loves you.
Love is an understatement, and you could say that words defining what loving Kim Seungmin feels like are not enough for a writer to write them in books. The feelings are sincere. They never changed the moment you decided to love him. You admit there were ups and downs in this relationship. Those nonsense arguments in the middle of the night made one of you storm out of the room, yet he came back a few hours later to apologize, finding out his flaws. He’d insist that he’s not the most perfect boyfriend he could offer you, but even if you close your eyes, he still blooms beautifully like a flower after winter, indicating the start of spring. Seungmin is the definition of perfect; you couldn’t ask for anything else.
Kim Seungmin is the person who made you feel loved and adored.
Four years ago, you were just as good as friends—not until your confidence rose like you had consumed a ton of alcohol just to say you loved him. Which you didn't, and yet it was romantic. A confession and a kiss were shared under the rain. Seungmin was happy that you did; you just didn’t seem to understand why he didn’t tell you first when he felt the same and waited for you to make the first move.
“I was afraid you’d reject me,” he would argue. You’re braver than me,” he defended.
“If I didn’t do it, then we’ll just grow apart after graduation, then? ” You asked, as it made him laugh in embarrassment.
“I was going to tell you after the graduation ceremony, in front of your parents and mine, but someone here got a little bit overwhelmed,” He smiled, ruffling your hair as you huffed in response. “I need to go now, love. I’m running late,” he added, planting a soft kiss on your lips before exiting your room. You hurriedly went out of bed to see him outside, although you had just woken up from a relaxing Sunday night.
“Will you come home early? ” You asked as he was tying his shoelaces by the entryway of your shared apartment.
“I’m not sure, but I’ll let you know when I can, alright? ” He answered. “I’ll see you tonight,” He added after he finished and placed one last kiss on your lips before waving goodbye as he vanished through the door.
A sigh escaped your lips as you locked the door and ate what Seungmin had cooked. He usually wakes up early and cooks for you during the weekdays; it happens every morning, duty calls early anyway, and sometimes he doesn’t spend the night here with you due to his busy schedule. You understand how hectic his job could get; that’s why you visit him if he doesn’t come home and fall asleep while he works. Seungmin doesn’t mind; he loves your presence near him, always.
In the past four years of this relationship, it has been amazing. At first, he was a cute, innocent puppy that thrived to survive from the very first day of being a freshman, the one whose only goal was to compete and win. Which he did, and that includes your heart. It was him from the start without realizing the fact that you were slowly cascading into something you didn’t sign up for. But that didn’t matter now that you were already spending days with him trying to survive life.
“What do you want for dinner? I’ll cook,” he said over the line as he walked toward his car. “I’ll buy ingredients before coming home. Are you almost done with work? ”
“Min, you cooked this morning. Let me do it tonight, I’ll meet you at the grocery,” You smiled at your phone, although he couldn’t see it.
“No, I’ll pick you up. Stay where I can see you immediately, alright? ” He answered while getting in, as a loud thud was heard when he shut the door. “Love you,”
“Okay, I love you too,” you replied. “Drive safely,”
“Yes, Ma’am,”
Seungmin kissed your cheek as you settled on the passenger’s seat, asking how your day went, and the same goes for you, who missed him every bit of the time he was away. It’s like having separation anxiety—you can’t stop thinking that you miss him. The sweet scent of his car, his gentle yet intoxicating perfume, the way he’d hold your hand while the other had its grip on the steering wheel as he kept switching glances from the road to you and vice versa.
Watching him drive with that straight face that sometimes turns bright as his lips form a smile when he giggles in response to what you said or the fact that he is soft-spoken when it comes to you can validate that you are fucking down bad. You can’t blame yourself for putting your guard down when you were the one who fell first, or so you thought.
Having to shop together as an act of sharing quality time is one of the biggest love languages Seungmin could ever offer. He doesn’t mind if you come home late; fuck the working hours the next day; he just wants to be with you.
“Do we have strawberries at home? ”He asked as you strolled over the fruit section. Do you know how much he loves strawberries and can finish a pack within a day? Yes.
“No, they’re all gone to your stomach,” you said, making him laugh, and you took a few packs. “If it’s not the strawberries, you’d be picking a pack of coffee pods. I swear, you’ll become either of those two in your next life.”
“What, a coffee bean or strawberry? ”He asked, confused.
“Yeah, there’s never a day you don’t drink caffeine and a single strawberry, as well as eggs,” you added, which made him do the most adorable thing ever that you couldn’t resist: the sad puppy eyes.
“Is that a bad thing? ”It made you clutch your chest in awe. How could such a grown-up man be this mature yet act like a small puppy?
“Yes, and no,” you huffed. “But please don’t do that; you always get it the way you want when you do that,” you added, which made him chuckle in return.
“Do what? ”He smirked, pushing the cart away.
“The puppy thing,” you argued, following him to the next food section.
“I am your puppy, aren’t I? ”
“Yes, you are.” You sighed while rolling your eyes playfully.
After that, Seungmin gave you a proud smile and went home with everything you bought. He doesn’t let you carry anything and just holds the door for him to place the groceries by the counter. It happens all the time. You have to put them in place and him preparing to cook after washing up—it’s like the bond of a married couple during the honeymoon phase.
Hugging him from behind after admiring his broad shoulders, kissing his cheek after smelling the food he’s cooking, a peck on the lips when he gets flustered, your arms around his waist tightened gently because you didn’t want to let go, he holds your hand while the other one was busy stirring the soup. It’s a form of expressing love without words. Actions with reassurance are better than being comforted with words unaccompanied by effort.
“I’m almost done, love,” he said, but it only made you hug him tighter, earning a heartfelt laugh from him. “You love me that much, don’t you? ”
“I always do,” you pouted as he pressed the off button of your electric stove.
“Come here,” he said, turning around and capturing you into his arms and kissing your lips over and over again, making you giggle in between.
Eating together while catching up on what happened at work, helping him wash the dishes afterward, and poking some soap bubbles on your nose to make you laugh at how childish it was is another form of bonding—a playful one.
“Go to sleep,” he said as you both got into each other’s arms, lying on your shared bed.
“No,” you’d say.
“Then no kisses for you tomorrow,” he answered, which made you frown at the thought.
“Fine,” you said as he kissed your lips softly. “Good night,” you added, looking at him with his cheek squished on the pillow.
“Good night, love,” he said, giving you another kiss on the forehead.
They say you'll fall asleep immediately when you’re sleeping with someone whom you feel safe around, and by that means, Seungmin is that someone. You get so dependent on him that your body gets used to him, and it releases dopamine and serotonin, which is proven to be true. With his arms around your back, his soft heartbeat on his chest, his gentle smell, soft breaths, and cuddly nature, you just wanted to stay there forever.
Living with him and having to spend each day like this is like a dream come true that you never want to end. It is endearing; it has a sense of comfort that you can’t find anywhere but here, with him. And it is something you can call home.
𖹭 ⁺ THREE.
You didn’t know what you did in your past life or why you deserved to be loved by Seungmin. To you, he is perfect. He’s the type of boyfriend that a lot of people want for themselves. It is also hard to understand why he chose you out of all those surrounding him. You were sure it wasn’t because of the non-existent pressure he felt when you confessed to him four years ago, and complaining would be the last thing you'd do in this relationship. So, how does Seungmin love?
He shows it from time to time. A love that you can’t find in somebody else. It existed at the very beginning, and it will last until the very end.
Seungmin couldn’t ask for anything. For him, it was like opening Pandora’s box, but it consisted of great and unexpected good things, like an acceptance letter from his dream university or a treasure chest that would make him automatically rich. And he is the most thankful to have you in his life—probably the most precious gift from the heavens. It’s like a puppy being adopted and falling in love at first sight when he knows who’s going to be his owner.
“I love loving you,” he said. It was sudden, as he was waiting for you to be done packing your things for the trip that you’d been planning for months. A smile was formed on your face, giggling at the fact that it made you caught off guard.
“Why?” You asked softly.
“Honestly, I don’t know,” He laughed making you frown in response. “Maybe because you take care of me so well even during those times when I couldn’t look out for myself, or maybe because you love me too much that I wouldn’t ask for anything more. I can’t answer the question ‘Why?’” He shrugged.
“Well.” You paused, smirking at the thought. “Your actions are speaking louder than words, Love.”
“Hmm, do I?” He asked, tilting his head to the side upon taking the bag off your hands.
“Yeah,” You smiled. “You don’t need words to tell you love someone,”
“Am I not good with words?” He asked, giving you those sad puppy eyes again.
“You are. But please don’t give me that look or I’m going to tackle you down.” You threatened making him laugh in return.
“You love my puppy eyes.” He teased as you rolled your eyes in response.
“Yes, you can show those puppy eyes later! And that should be all. Shall we go now?” You answered.
“Of course,” He said, placing a soft kiss on your lips before leaving your shared apartment. “Can’t wait to spend the long weekend with you!” He beamed excitedly.
He’s not the type to express his love through words. Apart from giving you quality time in this relationship, he also offers acts of service that may have knocked your heart out ever since your university days. He’s the type to do things for you instead of tiring yourself. Seungmin always has his way to your heart without you noticing at first. They can be silly at times, maybe serious, or just the little things; he doesn’t mind. Even for other people, it will just be the bare minimum for a man to serve you, but Seungmin is way bigger than that.
Seungmin loves you like Shakespeare loved his wife and dedicated his sonnets to her. It’s giddy like a teenage girl writing how much they adore her crush in a love letter. It could raise someone’s standards, like how a writer writes and portrays a protagonist who would do anything for their partner—a fictional character that became everyone’s ideal type. Sometimes it would feel like the ice blended well with the whiskey poured into the glass. It's like a florist making their favorite bouquet that consists of the prettiest flowers in the shop. Fun like kids playing on the playground. It's comfortable, like having a cup of hot chocolate as you sit together on a couch while watching the rain on the balcony. Lively and filled with excitement, like seeing your favorite band’s concert, reassuring, like a prayer that always works.
It feels nice.
“Seungmin! ”It would always make him feel nice when you’re around, especially when his name comes out of your mouth like a melody that captures his heart and mind in a split second.
“Baby? ”His heart would race as if it were the first time. A giddy smile would appear as he’d turn around to face you like a puppy getting excited, with a wagging tail, full of expectations, ready to cuddle and smother you with kisses. Hugs are not enough to show how affectionate he is.
“Yes?” Seungmin answered snapping himself back to reality.
“Shall we take a stroll? ”You asked as he watched you enjoy the sunset by the beach as the wind blew around your hair, and tucking it behind your ear made him fall in love with you even more. Beautiful is just a word of restraint from what he sees—a word mixed up with similar definitions. Heavenly.
“Okay,” He smiled.
The genuine smile you’re wearing, the way you laugh, and the way you talk a lot about the beautiful scenery could make him listen to you all day. He’d hold your hand while walking together barefoot on the sand, and the other hand would carry your shoes. You’d always hold him accountable for not looking at anyone but him. Why would you be surprised when he suddenly burst into your door with a full package of everything you wanted? And just like both of your monologues always say, you couldn’t and won’t ask for anything more. Enough is not the right word.
Loving you is one of the greatest decisions he ever made in his life, after thanking his parents for giving him life almost three decades ago. Living in the same lifetime as you, the same year, the same seasons and events, and being grateful are just some of the euphemisms in between sentences. I got love-struck to the brain and heart, then ended up as a lovesick puppy, like seeing stars despite the raindrops. Down bad as fuck.
As the door closed and knobs were locked, with the room installed with dim lights after clicking the second switch, you threw your arms around Seungmin’s neck as he sealed your lips with a kiss, his hands around your waist, pulling you closer to his body. Your fingers played with his new, trimmed black locks that you thought looked good on him. A new style that made your heart go crazy as it showed you another side of him.
He left out a soft sound against your lips, tasting the rosehip lip balm that coated its skin. His one hand found its way to caressing your neck as he deepened the kiss and later held your cheek to make it more passionate and impatient. You know this is not the first time he has ever held you like this as you make out, but it will always feel like the first time. He moved his mouth slowly and gently onto yours, biting and sucking the lower part of your lips, earning a soft groan from you. A smirk was painted on his lips when he knew you liked it. That’s one thing about him: he gets cocky when he knows he gets the upper hand and gets what he wants. But you don’t mind at all; everything from you is for him, and everything from him is for you.
“I love you so much,” he says as he pulls an inch away.
“And I love you more.” You smiled at him, planting a chaste kiss on his lips, and he returned it upon placing another kiss on your forehead.
Seungmin looked at you as you slept comfortably beside him that night. A gentle face with a calm expression as you fall deep into slumber because you know he’s there with you. His fingertips traced your cheeks down to your lips, slowly leaning forward to give you a soft and warm good-night kiss, which made you hum in response, scooting closer. A light giggle escaped his lips while wrapping his arms around your back and leaving another kiss on the crown of your head, feeling your warmth.
“I don’t know why you chose me, but I promise I will love you forever, and if this is a dream, I don’t want to wake up anymore. I love you, Y/N.”
You heard that. He never gets tired of saying he loves you, because why would he when his entire heart was solely captured by you? It doesn’t take a lot of time to fall for him even more. It only made you hug him tighter and drift into a dream.
Seungmin fell asleep immediately after that. He doesn’t know if it’s because of the trip if his hormones are releasing happiness, or if his brain is set so that he has you by his side; it doesn’t matter that much. A long weekend with you feels like a dream after days of working.
The morning came, and he woke up first, like usual. He got up and left the bed, trying not to make large movements to wake you up, and headed to the bathroom. You shifted your sleeping position like a starfish getting washed away from the shore. Seungmin tilted his head like a curious puppy, seeing you under that creased duvet when he came out. His footsteps dragged him to the huge windows from the ceiling to the floor, and he opened the curtains, welcoming the gentle morning sunshine and making you pull the cover above your head.
“Baby! ”He called. “Wake up! ”
“10 minutes.” You groaned when he decided to hover above you and put his weight on your body. “Min! ”You exclaimed, tossing the duvet off of your head and seeing him all smiley.
“Wake up, wake up, wake up! ”He beamed. The only ones missing are his puppy ears and a wagging tail.
“So much energy, Min huh?” You asked while caressing his hair. “What happened to Good Morning?”
“I ate it,” he said, which made you burst out laughing.
“You look happy, Min.” You answered as Seungmin moved away and helped you sit up.
“Why wouldn’t I when I’m with you? Besides, we have a lot to do today and so much to eat. I’m sure my heart will be delightful as much as my stomach,” he said. “I found a breakfast place yesterday when we were coming back to the hotel and thought maybe we could try their food. ”Then there go his puppy eyes again.
“Min, you know, giving me those puppy eyes or not, we’ll do whatever you want at this point. I can’t say no to you.” You huffed in response, making him smirk.
“You’re so down bad,” he answered while slipping into your flip-flops.
“Says the one who doesn’t want to wake up from this dream.” You smirked, making him freeze on his spot.
“You heard? ”He asked, shakingly.
“Every word, Min, every word,” you answered while making your way to the bathroom.
“You were awake?! ”He asked, flabbergasted, as you closed the door, leaving him blushing and painting a sly smile on your face.
Pulling a chair for you to sit on, setting the cutlery on the table properly, wiping the whipped cream excess on the corner of your lips after a bite of a pancake, it went as planned that you visited the breakfast place he mentioned a while ago. The sweet and sour taste of strawberries mixed with the maple syrup and whipped cream indeed, started a blissful morning. Your boyfriend enjoyed it with coffee too albeit the times he said that he’s going to cut off caffeine slowly but you’re sure he won’t be able to do that easily.
Holding hands while strolling around the neighborhood and shopping for cute things, food, maybe a couple of clothes, and other souvenirs, Seungmin was all up for them as you take a picture in front of a mirror every time you get a chance. You giggle at every picture when you swipe through your gallery. Seungmin never fails to make silly poses and act cute. It became a habit of his and on the other hand, he also does his boyfriend duties like taking candid pictures of you if you weren’t paying attention to him.
Seungmin’s love is fresh like spring, warm as summer, cool as autumn, and beautiful as winter. His feelings remained like the very first time you left a blush on his cheeks, your heart beating faster the way a doctor could hear it through their stethoscope, and a shot of espresso in the morning. You can’t blame him if he could still feel this way when the love you gave him from the start never changed. Four years is such a long time, yet it passes by like four days.
Your parents know as much as his. Both agreed and voted for love and devotion. Unbearable fights should be fixed before going to sleep and sealed with a kiss. His friends would tease him, yet they respect you by taming a menace that later became a lovesick, hopeless romantic, Kim Seungmin, who once didn’t believe in forever but wants to spend his eternity with you.
𖹭 ⁺ FOUR.
A back hug in the morning while brushing your teeth in the bathroom, having him pick your clothes for the day, and the same goes for him, asking to let him taste the flavor of your lip tint, but in reality, he just wanted a kiss, which sometimes leads to a make-out session where you have to redo your hair and makeup again, always unpredicted. He is just making you speechless all the time. Does having a relationship with Seungmin always feel like that?
Yes, but at the same time, no.
The spark in this relationship never dies as you two share the same affection for each other, though there are times that Seungmin is hard to love. But there are times when you and Seungmin have to go through tough times. It comes to its peak, especially when he is at his lowest and has unexpected tantrums, and the toxicity of this affair is on the surface. Seungmin is not the type to make himself vulnerable in front of you; instead, he goes far away and makes excuses for you not to bother him.
He gives you the silent treatment when he’s upset; he doesn’t want you to see him cry; he doesn’t want to talk about anything, and you hate it. You know he’s the person who would always initiate a conversation when there was something to be talked about and never let anyone sleep unless the problem had been settled. Yet, it’s unusual for you to scream and shout at each other in the middle of the night as one storm out of the room and the other is left with tears in their eyes, confused about what just happened and where it all went wrong.
Seungmin would always speak up for himself, as long as he was on the right side of the argument. You agree that he gets brutally honest when defending himself, saying that it would hurt you a lot. His words are sharp as knives that can stab you multiple times, and you are just afraid to admit that he always has a point. One thing about him is that he’s mature and mentally strong. He’s like a fire that is hard to wash out when mad (and literally hot). But, on the other hand, he’s careful. There was never a time in your life that he chose not to listen to your every worry, comfort you when you needed it, and reassure you that everything would be fine. He doesn’t invalidate you.
There was this one time when you had a huge fight about him being linked to a co-worker, and he brushed it off, knowing that nothing was going on between them. He reassured you that he was just being polite, not in a way that he’d tolerate the girl’s actions toward him, but jealousy had taken all over your system, and you closed your ears for every piece of explanation he had. Of course, he got mad as to why you didn’t believe him. The sickening sounds of arguments echoed across the room. Seungmin was hurt, and that was the first time he said something that crushed your soul.
“If you don’t trust me, then it was such a fucking waste spending four fucking years with you! ”
“You never admitted I was right, even if you’re wrong! I would always initiate everything first because of your fucking pride! ”
“Did you ever think that I would cheat on you just because of some stupid girl who can’t understand the words that I have a fucking girlfriend waiting for me at home? ”
“I fucking love you, Y/N, so if we’re going to stand on the ground like this, I think we should think about what’s going to happen in this relationship.”
“You disappoint me, Y/N.”
And that’s when he left. You went home to your parents the next day in the province and didn’t even bother to tell anyone, maybe, Seungmin does. The manager at your workplace thought you were just taking sick leave; even your work best friend, Felix, didn’t know what happened or where you were. Seungmin, on the other hand, stayed at his older sister’s apartment and distracted himself from what just happened. He thought about what he said, and it was harsh of him to shoo you away. He was also on leave to take care of himself and his nephew.
One thing about Seungmin is that he’s open-minded. He didn’t get mad when you introduced your male friends to him; instead, he became friends with them, especially Felix. If he gets jealous, then he knows something is wrong behind his back. Unlike you, who would jump to conclusions because you don’t know what’s going on inside their heads. It’s not like you don’t trust Seungmin at all, but you know how other people can be when no one is watching, and you admit you were so sick of thinking bad about your boyfriend.
To him, he can throw this relationship away anytime he gets tired, and you admit it was your fault for adding fuel to the fire. But now, you couldn’t face him. You were embarrassed, afraid of losing him, and anxious that he might fall for someone else, or maybe he could fall out of love. There are a lot of possibilities. And yet, Seungmin doesn’t think any of that. He was so upset about how you acted, and he was so damn tired that night, only to be welcomed by false accusations that led you both to cool off. But Seungmin knew that he couldn’t last a few days without your presence.
And if you’d be honest, you wouldn’t say Seungmin is that walking green flag who is so perfect in front of everyone, neither do you. No one is a green flag. People are just blinded by what they see on the outside and what others say about their partners. You may say that Seungmin is a definition of perfect but not the literal definition of perfect. It is another version of what you see is perfect, a compliment caused by love to remove the flaws from your sight like how your brain dumps unnecessary information to cater to the new ones. There is always that fucking toxicity that they are afraid to admit.
“Uncle! Uncle! ”Minsoo, his 5-year-old nephew, called.
“Yes, baby? ”Seungmin’s attention was caught.
“When is Aunt Y/N visiting? ”Minsoo asked again with those puppy eyes and pouty lips he probably got from his uncle.
“Yeah. I know you guys are not on good terms right now, but it has been days, bro.” His sister heard and added while slicing some fruits for her son. Minsoo took it immediately and pouted at him even more.
“Did you and Aunt Y/N fight? ”He asked and was about to cry. Seungmin was panicking inside that he had to lift the young fellow to sit on his lap and sighed heavily.
“We just had to cool off, okay Bub? When we say cool off, that means we take a break and be alone for some time so we can freshen up and talk later, okay? ”Seungmin was reassured, but Minsoo didn’t buy his statement at first; instead, he became sulky.
“Aunt Y/N loves you so much,” he murmured. “She said she wouldn’t hurt you. I don’t know what that means, but when you and Aunt Y/N were playing with me at the park because Mom was at work, I could see how happy she was while looking at you. You mean the whole world to her, and mine are Mom’s chicken nuggets and ice cream,” Minsoo frowned. Seungmin didn’t know if he was going to laugh or give a long sigh, but his sister at the kitchen counter giggled before making her way to both of them, placing the fruits on the coffee table.
“You remember that? ”Seungmin asked.
“You know Minsoo is quick-witted just like you.” His sister smiled at him. “And he probably loves Y/N more than you too! ”
“Yes,” Minsoo agreed, which made Seungmin laugh in return with made his sister show a bit of concern. Well, she is concerned.
“I don’t want to meddle with your business with her, Seungmin, but as someone who is in a longer relationship than you, it happens. I mean, I’m not going to take anyone’s side in this matter since you’re both in the wrong; her not giving full trust, and you snapped at her for it when there’s nothing to hide,” she said as she fed her son with a bite-sized strawberry. “I know my brother doesn’t tolerate such actions, and there’s nothing wrong with calling her out, but you’ve been staying here for days, not working, and crying at night because of whatever reason that you have. Don’t you think it’s time for you to find her? I’m sure she misses you like you do.”
“I’m always the first one who would initiate making up with her,” Seungmin sighs. “I just want her to realize that she can do it first, you know? Like come up or call me and apologize to me.”
“I know, but if you’re going to wait for her then it might take some time and you don’t like waiting, I know you.” His sister chuckled.
“You said you wouldn’t be biased but it feels like you’re siding with her,” Seungmin said looking at his sister, still feeding his nephew.
“I am not,” She shrugged as he rolled his eyes in return.
Seungmin did think it through the night after that. He couldn’t sleep and kept tossing and turning. It took him a few days before, finally made that engine roar and traveled to the province. His sister’s husband also talked him through when he got home and shared a few drinks. It may have caused a hangover but he got over it and drove out of the city on a sunny afternoon.
He rolled up his sleeves as his veiny hands tightened their grip on the steering wheel while trying to reach out for a signal to call you. A heavy sigh escaped his lips when you didn’t answer any of his damn calls. He called Felix instead, asking how you had been but the latter couldn’t answer for he doesn’t know too, even your whereabouts, and he is also worried.
“Just a sick leave, Lix. I’m not going anywhere but I think I’m going to take some time off from my phone and everything. Don’t worry, I’ll call you when I’m better.” That’s what you told him with that fake smile and red, puffy eyes from crying. Felix let it through and didn’t ask questions. He just went up and gave you the most comforting hug, telling you to be safe and healthy and that you’d call him immediately.
He rested his elbow by the window while his fingers played with his lips as he drove with one hand, drowning in deep thoughts. After days of no communication, he doesn’t know how to speak with you and makeup. It’s not like it’s his very first time initiating a conversation but this is the very first time that you had to not see each other for days. Mostly fights can be solved in one night but maybe Seungmin grew a bit tired that time. Now he’s nervous. He’s driving his way to your parents’s house and will apologize in front of them and to you. He was expecting a lot.
Seungmin was frustrated with that information and hissed after Felix dropped the call. He stepped on the gas as the car accelerated through the highway. It would take hours to get there, and he’s hoping he’d find you before the sun goes down.
He arrived at the hour he expected and parked the car outside of your parents’s house. Seungmin was welcomed by your dad who happened to be taking a stroll around the neighborhood. It was an unexpected visit and Seungmin didn’t give a heads up. He knows it was rude of him to show up unannounced but he didn’t think about it through when all he wanted was to see you.
“What the hell are you doing here?”  Your father asked him the moment he stepped out of the car.
“I’m so sorry for coming here unannounced Sir, but I’m here to see Y/N,” Seungmin said with the most respectful bow he ever done.
“She doesn’t want to see you,” Your father scoffed, crossing his arms on his chest and that’s when your mother showed up after noticing the black car from the front porch.
“Seungmin? Is that you?” Your mother asked as he approached the men talking at a distance. Seungmin took a glance at her and bowed again.
“Ma’am.” He said. “I apologize for coming here without telling you in advance. I just thought about coming to see Y/N and apologizeー” But he was stopped when your mother went to hug him and he was caught off guard. He admits it was comforting and reassuring while your dad kept on giving him a death stare. Of course, he knew that he was just being protective of his daughter even though Seungmin is already a legal member of your family. Still.
“She’s in the field with the cows and horses,” She whispered and pulled away.
“Thank you, Ma’am,” Seungmin said and bowed multiple times before running to the open field.
𖹭 ⁺ FIVE.
You were sitting on a swing while looking at the fresh scenery with the air blowing your hair. It has been a while since the last time you were home and you missed life in the province. If it wasn’t for the fight you had with your boyfriend, you wouldn’t be here right now. But you admit you miss Seungmin so much that you think about him, always. And you’ve been thinking about your uncalled behavior that night.
The cold breeze had lessened the heavy weight that you carried on your shoulders as you thought of a solution on how to make up with him. You know told Felix that you’d take some time off from everything and come back when you’re better. The sick leave was abrupt and you couldn’t wait for your vacation to be approved. You don’t know if you still have a job when you come back but it’s just already been a few days to cool off. And as the cows moo and the horses neigh, you just sat there trying too hard to hold those tears knowing that you fucked this up. You miss Seungmin and not talking to him for the past few days has been hard. He didn’t even contact you after your do-not-disturb mode was off. No texts, no missed calls, no emails, nothing.
A heavy sigh escaped your lips as your head hung low, watching your feet sway back and forth as you swung. The crowd was quiet, too peaceful, and lonely. Just a bunch of cows and horses around, judging you. Your head was in your hands as you stopped with your elbows on your knees, trying to think of an excuse to text him. Another sigh of frustration was heard when you couldn’t think of anything. But all worries were washed down when you heard someone was approaching you.
And it was him, the one that you’ve been waiting for.
“Seungmin?” You called as you stood up from your seat.
He was catching his breath.
“What are you doing here?” You asked, approaching him as he stopped meters away.
“Let me breathe for a second,” He said, lifting his index finger in the air as his other hand clutched his chest.
“Did you run all the way fromー”
“From your house to here? Yes. Your mother said you’re here and I forgot about how far this is.” He said still catching his breath. “Look, Y/N, I know I fucked up and I shouldn’t have raised my voice at you when you were just worried but believe me, I would never ever cheat on you. And that’s a promise. There’s no one else in my life but you.” Tears started to form in your eyes as Seungmin held your hands and locked eyes with you. “And I’m sorry. I’m sorry I was so worked up that I yelled and said those words without holding myself up and not thinking that it would hurt you. And I’m sorry for not calling you these past few days because I was reflecting and I heard from Felix not to disturb you. I hope you forgive me.” He said, pulling you closer to his body and planting a soft kiss on our forehead before taking you all in his armsーhugging you tightly as if he never got to hold you in years.
“I’m sorry,” You said as you were sobbing on his chest. “I didn’t mean it to be like that I was just paranoid. I know you’re a bad guy, Seungmin. I’m sorry.”
“Shh, shh it’s okay. We’re both here now.” He said in the softest and sweetest voice he could ever do as he kept on kissing the crown of your head while caressing your hair. “I love you, okay? No one could replace you in my heart, ever.” It made you smile a bit, but you were still guilty about what happened that night. You accused him.
“Still, I was dumb…” You said. “How could I do that to you when all you did is to love me faithfully.” You added as you looked down on your feet again. Seungmin took a deep breath as a smile curved on his lips, taking his fingers on your chin as he lifted your head gently to look at him in the eyes again.
“You are not dumb. Don’t say that to yourself, okay? I know it’s hard to trust us men these days because of the cheating culture but don’t ever think of me that way, baby, okay? Like I said, no one could ever replace you in my heart even if you think otherwise. I’m true and I’m standing my ground. Even if your father wants to shoot me, I will take the bullet to prove how much I am true to you.” And it only made you cry more. How could someone be as comforting, endearing, and perfect as him? “And I don’t blame you for thinking so, but, I hope you wouldn’t think about me like that again. It hurts, you know?” You nodded in response.
“I’m sorry,” You said.
“We’re good now, love.” He smiled, giving you a quick kiss on your lips.
“I have something to say,” You said, looking at him.
“What is it?” He asked.
“The last few days, I’ve been thinking about you a lot.” You started while playing with your fingers. “I know I played a huge part of the problem and taking some time off made me realize how I was so fucked up that night. I swear, that wasn’t me who was talking but I was just afraid that maybe one day, you’d leave me because I was the one who called you in public to confess four years ago because I fucking love you so much that I would die if you’re not going to be mine.” Seungmin stood just there, amused and in awe of what you’ve said, and now you’re thinking that he might be thinking that you’re crazy but he’s yours now. No one could ever take Seungmin from you.
“I know, I’m crazy and there’s a lot of me that are yet to be relieved. I don’t know what caused that argument maybe that stupid bitch and I’m guilty, okay? I just wanted to let everything out of my chest before we proceeded to this relationship that I almost ruined. I overthink too much, I am selfish sometimes, and I hurt you a lot, I made you cry, I was the reason you snapped at me, I’ve got a lot of crazy things inside my head and it’s making me go insane…” The rest of the words became a blur to Seungmin. He doesn’t need to hear everything as he admired the way you vent out and you were so cute walking in circles just to explain yourself. That didn’t matter now. You are the most beautiful person in his world.
He pulled you towards him again as he crashed his lips against yours, kissing you passionately as his hand cupped your cheek and the other snaked around your waist. It was unexpected. You both stood on the wide green grass field with the cows and horses as the audience as you shared a kiss under an orange sky and a bright sunset.
The kiss deepened as your eyes closed, feeling the intimate and adrenaline kind of rush that Seungmin’s lips have brought. It was tentative, soft, and hot, both of your hearts were pounding with every bit of movement and rhythm. His thumb started caressing your cheekbones gently as he pulled you even closer to engage the feeling of longing to kiss your lips and the warmth you’d always give. You could feel his hot breath against your nose as your fingers entangled with his black locks, playing with them. Seungmin smiled in between your lips before leaving a soft peck on it and proceeded to kiss your forehead.
“If you’re that worried, marry me.” He said as you both pulled away.
“W-what?” You asked as you got caught off guard.
“I know you’d say something like that but again, if you’re worried that much then,” He paused as he took out a small box from his pocket and went down on one knee. “Marry me.” He added, opening the box to reveal a ring with an authentic sapphire on it. Your hands went to cover your mouth in shock as tears started to stream down to your cheeks. What the fuck, Kim Seungmin.
“You already know how much I love you and to make a seal of this relationship, this is a promise that we will love and trust each other no matter what happens. You don’t have to worry about it anymore, Y/N. Marry me so you’d be officially mine and I’ll be legally yours.” He said. “Will youー”
“Yes! Yes fuck yes!” You cried as you went down on your knees and hugged him tight. Seungmin giggled at the sight as he pulled out the ring from the box and gently placed it around your ring finger after you pulled away.
“I love you,” You told him, eyes filled with tears as he wiped them off with his thumbs.
“I love you too.” He said. “More than anything in this world,” He added as he hugged you again.
“I’ll forever cherish this moment, love.”
“Me too, baby…” He replied, hugging you tight. “And we should go now, your dad was glaring at me when I arrived.”
“You came all over from Seoul to here without saying anything, he was probably surprised.” You answered as you both went back on your feet with Seungmin grabbing the small box and giving it to you to place the second ring on his finger.
“I did it for you.” He said, stealing a kiss on your lips.
“Don’t make me say, I love you, twice.” You said as you gave him another kiss.
“You just did,” He smirked as you both giggled at the end and went back to your parents’ houseーhappy about what just happened.
Bonus: His sister sent you a video of him when he was so drunk, crying and wailing to his brother-in-law about how much he loves and misses you. He also bought the ring after the trip when he realized that he was ready to settle down. Seungmin was sure that you’re the one he’s going to marry anyway, no one else.

maybe, love again? — han jisung.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
✰ pairing : ex!han x fem!reader (she/her pronouns).
✰ genre : a bit of angst, fluff, idiots to lovers, exes to lovers, semi-college au.
✰ warnings : profanity, not proofread, lmk if i missed one.
✰ word count : 2.2k
disclaimer !! this is derived from an old drabble from 2021 which i posted ( now deleted ) on my instagram inspired by the song “love song” by dept and now it came to my mind so brought this one back to life. i still hope you’ll like it @hanjsquokka ily 𖹭 — special mention to han’s song, maybe. ( read this first before proceeding. )
Tumblr media
“Stupid radio! You’re fucking useless!” Jisung grumbled upon switching the radio channel frequency for the nth time in the last twenty minutes.
Yes, the twenty minutes he just wasted. All of them played love songs that he grew tired of hearing. It made him feel sick in the stomach, like an expired food; he didn’t notice the date when he ate it. Fair enough, it is already six months after he went to that godforsaken beach to reminisce about your breakup. It would be lying if he said he was doing well the moment you were gone. No, he wasn’t. It was irrational and immature of you to leave each other hanging like that.
For six months, Jisung tried to pour his soul into writing songs, no matter the genre. He went on with his usual routine, minus what he did when he was still with you. Given the fact that his schedule became a little less busy, he also felt lonely despite being around his friends most of the time. He got used to your presence, the silly dates, the arcade visits, the sleepovers, and the random things you did. It was hard to forget.
What was the reason for your break-up? Misunderstandings had occurred—unreasonable and immature arguments that you were both too young to commit and comprehend the true meaning of love. There was tons of bullshit to begin with, anyway. He didn’t understand, even though he already apologized and tried to fix it, and yet, the broken pieces weren’t glued back as planned. You turned your back on him that night, and so he decided to stop pursuing you. Either way, you regret what happened.
Jisung sat down on the floor as his back leaned to the seat of his couch, hugging his knees as the rain poured outside his shared apartment with Minho. The latter was nowhere to be found, so he was alone, annoyed, and irritated with that fucking radio that the older one bought after they both moved in a month ago. He exhaled heavily as his head rested on the soft foam, looking out the window as the raindrops kept on tapping the glass. It is safe to say that he missed you all of a sudden; you couldn’t blame him.
He is sane, or maybe he isn’t. The radio kept playing a song after he gave up switching channels from here and there. His hand reached into his pocket to pull out his phone and tap his fingers through the messages. He went to your chat and found the last message he sent after the breakup happened. You didn’t reply and left him on seen. The sudden memories of you two together played in his mind—the fun, the cries, and those foolish moments—and once again, he misses you. He misses you so much that even though he tried to forget a whole year with you, it didn’t work that easily. He pretended he was fine and put a smile on his face. “It’s not a sin to fall in love.” “It’s not wrong to break-up because you were too young.” “Don’t lie to me. I know you.” Fuck you, Minho.
Jisung sighed heavily as he went to write something. He was hesitating, he didn’t know what to say. He kept writing and then tapping the X mark at the right corner of the keyboard to delete letters.
“I… miss… you… Can… we… meet?” Jisung typed as he read. “Sounds like I was the jerk here.” He groaned and tossed his phone on the carpeted floor, unknowingly hitting the send button.
Minho found him on the floor, his wrists covering his eyes. Jisung didn’t even notice; he just came home with food inside his shopping bag. The older one smirked at the sight of his roommate and glanced at the open screen of his phone. He is not the type to be nosy, but reading the text and how you left in on seen again made him kick Jisung’s legs.
“Ya,” Minho called. “If you miss Y/N, at least do it properly,” he said as Jisung sighed again, his arms collapsing to his sides, confused about how this cat knew about his dilemma.
“I didn’t do anything.” Jisung defended as Minho smirked in response.
“You sent her a text saying “I miss you. Can we meet?” What are you on, Han? ”Upon saying that, Jisung immediately jumped out of his seating position and grabbed his phone from the floor. It was too late to unsend it; you’ve already seen it. His eyes widened at the sight of it, and he panicked.
“Fuck, fuck, fuck!” He grumbled as he walked around in circles as Minho watched his misfortune while grabbing his own hair.
“Calm down, as if she’s going to freak out upon reading it,” Minho said, rolling his eyes.
You were indeed freaking out.
To you, it was just another day at school, as the professor dismissed you a little late and you got caught up in the rain. It wasn’t that heavy, yet you stayed by the bus stop for shelter. You didn’t feel like going home yet, despite the time being late. Hyunjin, your roommate won’t be home until midnight anyway, so you’d be left alone if you went now. A sigh escaped your lips as you sat on the empty bench, watching the cars pass by while hugging your bag close to your chest. It is a tiring day with a full schedule, and running from one building to another is a whole different story. You should get used to it after years in university, but here you are, depressed and alone. Not until you read Jisung’s text.
A long gasp was heard as you stared in disbelief and shock at your screen. Six months have passed, and your heart is still beating faster when you see his name. There’s a reason why the university’s morning broadcast system played the song Jisung wrote as a commercial for announcements two weeks after you broke up, 13. It was the fucking date of your breakup, and you had to ask Seungmin for a copy of that song, which he judged you for after breaking his friend’s heart. You know you were foolish; there’s no need to remind you about it.
The excuses were “too young and immature” and “different taste and perspective” when you can both sit down and talk. You turned your back on him that night and regretted it later. He tried to fix it, yet it was only making it harder for you. You indeed had issues with yourself back then, and you didn’t want him to become a mess because of you. The embarrassment you felt, the regret—you didn’t even bother to see him anymore, and you knew it hurt Jisung a lot.
You didn’t reach out to him days after you received the text and tried to think about what to say. Hyunjin had to massage his forehead upon hearing about the situation. He’s very close friends with Jisung, and rooming with his ex is not on his death wish list. He wanted you two to have some closure and talk about what happened.
“He wasn’t doing well. You broke his heart when he wanted to fix what was going on. Maybe you should finally talk to him to get over this bullshit, and don’t get me wrong, Y/N, I love you, but I love Jisung more, so do what’s right. Talk to him; it’s been six months,” Hyunjin said. “And a week has passed since he texted you. I’m sure that wasn’t accidental.”
And so you did.
Later that night, after your last class, you replied to meet him outside the gates of the school and waited for him. The autumn season is filled with rainy days. That’s why you stood by the gates with an umbrella above your head as you waited for Jisung to come. You weren’t expecting anything at that very moment, and you thought it'd be okay if he didn’t show up. After all, he didn’t reply to your text, and it has been a week since you’ve read his. It was indeed a spontaneous night for him, and it was abrupt of you to make a decision.
Hyunjin just said a couple of sentences for advice, and now you took it so foolishly. Jisung wondered why you hadn’t given him a response and just let him leave on read during the past few days. He thought you’d already moved on and were seeing another person. He couldn’t brush it off of his mind; even Minho was concerned about the way he behaved. It was worse than suffering from your breakup, and it is indeed another set of the infamous five stages of grief. Jisung is still bargaining.
He wasn’t the type to enjoy drinking, but because of you, he did, and he passed out after a minimum of two glasses of an alcoholic drink. Minho could only sigh in response to his friend’s low tolerance back then, but now he’s acting like crazy. He ran outside from their shared apartment after receiving your text agreeing to meet up. He was on the phone 24/7, hoping you’d drop a message, and there he was.
“Bring an umbrella, you fool! ” Minho shouted at him, but Jisung was too busy to come back.
He wouldn’t deny that he’s over the moon and excited that he’s finally meeting you after months. It was a good thing that his apartment was only two blocks away from the school; he managed to get there on time. He didn’t care about the splashes of dirty water on his sweatpants from the puddles he ran into or the rain soaking his hair and damping his t-shirt; all he wanted was to see you. And there you stood near a lamp post, your phone in your hand, scrolling the top screen to refresh the messages, wondering if he ever replied, as the other hand was holding the handle of the navy blue umbrella you borrowed from Hyunjin.
Jisung stopped two meters away from where you were standing because you were busy on your phone. He stood there like a man in a movie while staring at you, falling in love once more despite how you broke his heart months ago. It’s foolish. “Hey, Sung. I know it has been a week. I hope you’re still up to meet me. There are things I want to explain and apologize for after what happened to us. It’s no excuse for me to turn my back when I said that we were both too immature to understand what love is. I only realized how stupid I was when I heard that you weren’t doing well from your friends. I know we had arguments, misunderstandings, and such, but I was just insecure about myself and stressed out. I shouldn’t have let it affect our relationship, knowing that you meant well and tried to fix us. I was the one who cut it off, but I also want to let you know that I loved you. I’ll wait for you outside the gates of the university tonight, and it’s fine if you won’t. I would really want to meet you too, Sung.” After receiving that message, do you think Jisung would turn around to Minho to get that stupid umbrella? No, he won’t.
“Y/N,” he called.
You immediately turned to face his direction as your heart started to beat faster. It was his smile that captured your heart again, and all the worries faded like water evaporating into the sky. Jisung didn’t hesitate to come over and take you into his arms, hugging you tight. You cried as you buried your face in his chest, apologizing countless times for how bad you were as a partner while his hand caressed your back gently, trying to stop you from saying nonsense and reassuring you that everything was all good now that you were finally seeing him.
“Don’t cry, don’t cry,” he said as he pulled away and dried your tears. “It’s alright, I’m here now, okay? You did nothing wrong.
“I’m sorry.” You sniffed as he kissed the tip of your nose.
“No.” He reassured you and hugged you again, but you didn’t listen. “If you’re really sorry, then you have to do something for me.”
“What is it? ”You asked him.
“There’s no need to explain why; you don’t need to say sorry anymore. I know that the breakup was sudden and we had a lot of issues to talk about, but we can fix it later, okay? ”He said, cupping your cheeks as he smiled at you. “Maybe we can love again to fix that? ”You looked at him with those teary eyes, ready to bawl your eyes out and whimper, but that doesn’t mean you’d say no to that. Of course, you did say yes. “You won’t regret it this time, love,” he said while kissing your forehead.
“Thanks for taking me back, Sung.”
Breaking up in spring felt like flowers wilting in autumn, but getting back in autumn felt like flowers blooming once again in spring after the harsh winter.

━ SPORT DATES WITH SKZ
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
PAIRING: ot8 x reader
GENRE: fluff, headcanons
CW: f-word in minho's
what sports i think bf!skz would enjoy with you. (also this is me projecting a bit cuz chan's and innie's would be my ideal dates lmao) @stayconnecteed provided ideas for hyunlix so thank you sm! <3
masterlist here
Tumblr media
BANG CHAN ↬ swimming
this is a surprise to literally no one
pool/beach dates where you just hang out and relax are a regular thing
but once he learns you love water as much as him, it's on
you always want to race him, boasting about how you're going to beat him
spoiler alert, you don't
sometimes he secretly lets you win (though you know he held back)
your first kiss happened while swimming in the ocean
you were holding onto chris for support, when he just leaned in and kissed you
also, underwater kisses !!
LEE MINHO ↬ archery
you complimented him on his skills on isac
you also expressed the desire to learn on multiple ocassions
one day he just said fuck it and took you to an archery range
at first he just paid you a few lessons, but then started going with you because "i need to practice for the next isac"
actually he just wanted to spend time with you but would never admit it
you no longer need a coach but he still likes to give you tips now and then
SEO CHANGBIN ↬ air hockey
while waiting for a game to be available on your arcade date, you noticed an empty air hockey table
"can we try that, bin? please?"
he can't say no to you, so that's how you found yourself on one side of the table with a mallet in your hand
neither of you knows how to play but it can't be that hard, right?
you both are terrible at it
but it's fun and there's always room for improvement
the real surprise comes when you visit the dorm one day only to find an air hockey table in the middle of the living room
"look yn, now we can play without going to the other side of seoul"
HWANG HYUNJIN ↬ badminton
mentioning you used to play badminton in front of hyunjin was a mistake
he immediately booked a court
and bought you both new matching rackets and skirts
he challenged you to a match
and lost
he began secretly practising with felix so he's ready for a rematch
you play regularly now
hyunjin even tried to convince his members to play with you once (they did under the promise of free dinner)
after that it has become stricly your and hyunjin's private activity
HAN JISUNG ↬ basketball
it started as a joke because you're both short
but you took a liking to basketball surprisingly quickly
you have an ongoing competition of who can score the most shots in a row
or sometimes you just play one on one
jisung has a whiteboard with your scores in his room
whoever is the loser at the end of the month has to pay for date night the winner chooses
you try to meet up and play at least once in two weeks
LEE FELIX ↬volleyball
he decided to play when you were visiting his family in australia
can't believe you never played beach volleyball
has made it his personal mission to teach you at least the basics
which meant an intense volleyball drill for the first five days of your vacation ("what happened to my sunshine?" "volleyball is a serious matter, yn. we can cuddle after you get the overhand serve right")
felix somehow roped chan and his girlfriend into it
so now you had a double date/death match (as the aussie boys called it) scheduled for next week
you and felix lost
at least he bought you ice cream afterwards as a consolation price
a rematch was definitely planned for the next time you were all free
KIM SEUNGMIN ↬ baseball
this one is pretty self-explanatory
for your first date he took you to Lotte game since you're both fans
it has become a tradition to go to games together
you love stealing seungmin's baseball caps
but god forbid he sees you with another team's cap
"i don't care the Yankees one is popular, you are not wearing that while i'm the room with you"
will totally make a scene out of it
also will buy you more Lotte merch because "you can't just go around looking like a traitor"
you and jeongin lowkey make fun of him for it but secretly you love it
YANG JEONGIN ↬ motorcycle racing
say thank you to superboard mv for putting jeongin and racing in my mind
one day he randomly joined you when you were watching MotoGP and got quickly invested
during the season he tries to watch with you every race
when he doesn't have time you record the broadcast and watch it with him later
it has become a date without you both knowing it really (seungmin had to point it out)
jeongin promised to take you for a "real" date to a circuit to watch irl one day
for his birthday you got him his favourite racer's merch
you constantly bicker about your faves and passionately discuss the lineup for every season

“I got this,” you said to yourself, pacing in front of the boys’ dorm. Today was the day you decided to finally do it - to finally confess to Jisung. It had been too long, and the pining was getting more and more useless with every passing day. You knew he would never love you back; otherwise, the other boys would have said something by now. You knew you were in for a rejection, but you were tired of hopelessly longing. And it was better for everybody to let yourself be officially rejected and move on.
Your hand reached for the door handle. Your fingers brushed against the cold metal, and you gripped the handle, taking a deep breath. “Nope, I don't get this,” you decided in a split second, suddenly panicking. You let go of the door and turned around, fully intending to march down the hall back to Seungmin to tell him you failed and maybe to cry a little. Seungmin gave good hugs, so you would be okay.
Unfortunately for you, at that moment the apartment door opened and Felix appeared in the hallway. “Hi! Coming to see Jisung?” He greeted you in English, giving you the signature Felix sunshine smile.
You could but dumbly nod. “Yeah, that's what I'm here for. I need to talk to him,” you ended up saying. You probably sounded too serious, because Felix's smile fell for a moment. He composed himself soon enough, though, linking his arm with yours and not giving you the chance to ponder his reaction. He led you inside almost ceremoniously, just like a king would his queen. Felix released you once you stood in front of Jisung's door.
“Well, I'm off to see Channie-hyung. Be nice to Sungie, please. It was hard for him to do,” Felix said, squeezing your shoulder gently as a form of goodbye. Then he rushed off in the direction you came from, leaving you to stand there utterly confused.
What did Felix mean by “it was hard for him”? You haven't seen or heard from Jisung for the last two days. And as far as you knew, Stray Kids were on break before comeback season. And knowing Jisung, his plan on how to spend his breaks included exactly three activities: watching anime with Minho, hanging out with you, and occasionally working on some songs. And neither of those things has ever been "hard", so what the hell was Felix on about?
Lost in your thoughts and theories, you somehow missed that the little blonde gremlin knocked on the door. So you got properly startled when it opened with a click and Jisung's head peaked out. “What are you doing here?” he asked, genuinely surprised.
“Oh, is it a bad time?” you asked anxiously, even the last bits of confidence and determination to confess crumbling down. “I can come back different-”
“No!” Jisung all but yelled. “I mean, no, stay. I actually want to talk about something,” he said, after making sure none of his members were coming to scold him for yelling.
“Okay,” you smiled. “I wanted to talk to you too, so..." You left the sentence unfinished, letting Jisung take the lead. And he did. Jisung grabbed your arm and dragged you to his room without saying another word. Immediately after closing the door, he apologized, reasoning his behavior by not wanting the members who might be inside the dorm to know you're here.
“So, can I-” you both said at the same time. Your eyes met, and the laugh both of you let out was nothing short of awkward. This was it, you thought. I'm going to tell him.
“You go first,” you encouraged him as he averted his gaze. You weren’t sure if you would still have the confidence after letting him speak first, but you would manage. It was better to let Jisung talk first; otherwise, he might get too nervous to speak.
“Okay,” Jisung murmured. "I wanted to tell you, but I never found the courage to, until Felix bullied me into it this morning." He laughed, short and forcibly, to alleviate the heaviness of the situation. Jisung began pacing in front of his bed, not being brave enough to look you in the eyes. “So you know how I usually do a lot of stupid things? Well… I might have done the dumbest one yet. I kinda… accidentally... fell in love. With... with you, I mean. And it's super cliché, I know. I mean, falling for your best friend, who does that?” He chuckled, but it was very clear he's faking it.
You stood there completely in shock. Did you hear that right? He actually loved you back. Your heart did a little happy dance at his words. So that was what Felix meant. He thought Jisung had already confessed, and that was why you came to the dorm. Which was when you remembered you still needed to tell him. Jisung was beginning to ramble, and that was never a good sign. You quickly reached for his hands, stopping him from fidgeting. “Jisung. Jisung, it's okay. I did that too.” You whispered the last part, but your words were still loud and clear for him. Jisung slowly looked up, finding your eyes.
“I'm… I'm your best friend,” he said, so quietly that if it weren’t for your close proximity, you wouldn't have heard him. You smiled and nodded, confirming his suspicion. “Can I..." he asked. It was an invitation rather than a question, and despite leaving the statement open, you both knew what he meant.
“Yes,” you breathed out as his lips pressed to yours.

You were fighting the urge to close your eyes and sleep with the last bits of energy you had left. You promised Hyunjin you would wait up for him, but he didn't show up. You ate dinner alone, receiving an apology text telling you that the practice ran late and to not wait for him because he didn't know when he would come back.
You weren’t happy, of course, but you understood. This was what it was usually like when they had to learn a new choreography. Long nights in the studio, Hyunjin coming home tired and angry at Minho and his perfectionism. By that time, you would already be asleep, and you would see him at breakfast the next day.
Today was no different. You cleaned up the plates and got ready for bed, thinking of Hyunjin, who was most likely still dancing somewhere. Determined to wait for him to come home this time, you turned on the lamp, deciding to read for a while to pass time. But just as your head hit the pillow, the exhaustion finally caught up to you, and you had to fight your entire system to keep your eyes open. Then, when you were about to succumb to the dreamland at last, you felt the bed sink. Your senses immediately alerted you and brought you to full consciousness, but soon there was a hand on your arms, rubbing up and down and coaxing you back to your sleepy state.
“It's just me. Go back to sleep, love,” Hyunjin whispered. His touch momentarily left your skin as he took off his hoodie and tossed it away, completely disinterested in where it was going to land. Carefully to not disturb you, Hyunjin climbed into the bed properly, settling down behind your back. One of his arms travelled over your waist, prompting you to scoot back into Hyunjin's warmth. With a hum, he tightened his hold on you, pressing you even closer.
“How was your day?” you asked, desperate to stay awake for a little longer. You wanted to enjoy the time you got with Hyunjin as much as you could, because, truth be told, there hadn't been much of it lately.
“I don't know,” Hyunjin mused. “Long. Exhausting. Fun. Minho was a dick.” After each description, he pressed a soft kiss to the back of your neck. He too was relishing in these stolen moments of affection, when you belonged to him and him only. If only they didn't so frequently happen in the middle of the night. “I couldn't wait to get back home to you,” he murmured, his lips still pressed into your skin.
When you didn't respond, he assumed you fell asleep. He wouldn’t be surprised. It was actually pretty impressive that you managed to stay awake for that long, if you were to ask him. Hyunjin knew that today you had a difficult day. Your workplace had organized some sort of event (he didn't listen properly when you told him, and he was aware that that was his problem), but he could imagine how exhausting it must have been, especially for you, who really weren’t a big fan of socializing.
Hyunjin himself couldn't seem to fall asleep. He was more than content to just lay there, though, holding you safely in his arms. However, he was sure he would fall asleep soon enough. That was one of the many effects you had on him. When he was with you, he felt the most relaxed.
Suddenly, he felt you move. Without a second thought, he adjusted himself so you could lay your head on his chest. His hand came up to gently stroke through your hair. “Love? Are you awake?”
“Mmhhm.” That was all he got in terms of an answer. Hyunjin chuckled. You truly were the cutest like this, worn out and tired, but fighting sleep with all you had, just so you could spend a few more moments with him. “Hyune? Tell me a secret,” you pleaded, snuggling into his chest. Your words weren’t anything more than a sleepy murmur, but Hyunjin still heard you well enough.
Hyunjin smiled and kissed the top of your head. “You're my biggest inspiration,” he confessed. “When we're practicing a dance or recording a song, I always think about your reaction, and that motivates me to do my best.”
When he didn't receive an answer this time as well, he went to properly check. Your eyes were closed, and your chest was slightly moving, calm and steady. You were properly asleep at last. Hyunjij smiled to himself. He didn’t know if you heard him or not, but that didn't matter. He would tell you tomorrow again. But for now, he closed his eyes, surrendering himself to the land of dreams.

Your eyes skimmed over the closet and ended up on the pile of clothes on Chan's bed. You had stayed at the dorm so often that the boys decided to keep some of your clothes there for emergencies such as this. It was your annual movie night, where you met up with the boys and their girlfriends (if they had them). The night went on as usual without a hitch, until it didn't. But to be fair, someone should have predicted Jeongin tripping over somebody's legs and spilling his drink all over you. They were apparently used to accidents like these because Chan immediately went to pick out a new shirt for you while Felix's girlfriend helped you clean yourself up. Chan came by the kitchen, telling you he left some clothes in his room so you could change in private.
Yet there you were, completely ignoring the carefully picked-out shirt in favour of Bang Chan’s closet. Looking at the black shirts, you felt as if they were calling you. What harm would it do to wear one of Chan's shirts, right? You have worn his jacket hundreds of times when you were cold. But this was something different. Wearing his shirt unprompted indicated that you were his. You ignored the excited fluttering of your heart as you picked out a shirt you knew Chan would recognize. So maybe you had a tiny crush on the singer. Damn you for indulging a bit, right? This was harmless fun, and if you were to be completely honest, you looked forward to seeing Chan's reaction.
When you came back to the living room, a few people turned around to stare at you. Changbin and Minho shared a knowing look before they went back to organizing the snacks. You didn’t miss the smirks on both of their faces. The rest too looked away again one by one, focusing on whatever activity they were doing. Well, everyone except Bang Chan. You felt his eyes follow you as you walked across the room to sit next to Jisung, who began filling you in on what movie they picked out while you were changing.
Chan was at a loss for words. He couldn't take his eyes off of you in his shirt. Of course, he recognized it. How could he not? Firstly, it wasn't the one he laid out for you, and secondly, you yourself bought him that shirt not so long ago. There was suddenly something different about you, but he couldn't quite put his finger on it. He couldn't help but wonder what even caused you to wear his shirt. Did you not like what he picked out for you? Did you lose some bet and the whole accident was scripted? Or did you just decide to be a tease for no reason?
The movie night resumed in the meantime, and when Chan finally tore his gaze away from you, he noticed the film was already playing. He tried his best to catch up on the plot and characters, but his efforts were severely undermined by the fact that he kept glancing in your direction. He usually managed fairly well in your presence, having mastered the sneaky looks and “No, I definitely don't have a crush, why would you say that?" But today was different somehow. And then it hit him. He liked seeing you in his clothes, acting so casual about it. It sparked a certain sense of possessiveness in him. To an outsider, it would look like you’re his partner.
Realizing staring was rude, Chan turned his attention back to the TV. It didn't stay that way for long, though, because every time he tried to focus on the movie, his eyes always found their way back to you. Your laugh, the way your eyes sparkled, and the slight blush that appeared on your cheeks after Jisung whispered something to you. It all captured his attention like never before.
“Chan? Are you okay?”
Your voice seemed to bring him back out of his trance, because he blinked a few times to snap out of his dazed state. “You're gorgeous,” he blurted out, catching his mouth in the following seconds. “I… I mean…” he stuttered, hiding his face in his hands, silently admitting defeat. He missed the way your cheeks went red and a smile appeared on your face. “Sorry.” Chan quickly stood up and ran out of the room, the embarrassment too high to manage.
You were left there, hopelessly looking in the direction in which Chan disappeared. “Go after him,” Felix and his girlfriend said in unison. They stood up, each taking one of your hands and pulling you up. “Go,” Felix urged you and pushed you in the direction of Chan's room.
“Alright, I'm going. I'm going.” You held your hands up in mock surrender, but you did go after Chan.
Without knocking, you entered and found Chan sitting on his bed. “What's wrong? Why did you run away?” you asked, sitting down next to him. He raised his head when he heard you.
“That was not how I wanted to say that,” he murmured.
“Say what?” you questioned, tilting your head to the side.
“That I think you're pretty? I don't know. I guess I imagined something more intimate than a room full of our nosy friends.” He chuckled at the irony. This situation was pretty close to his vision of an intimate situation. Shame it happened this way, he thought.
You stayed silent, confused by his words. This wasn't like him at all. Chan was a natural flirt; he said things like that all the time. It was just a word, so why was he making a big deal out of it? Sure, it couldn't have been because he might have felt something for you. Or could it? Now that you have thought about it, it would make sense. He seemed to always find you, even in a crowded room. He stayed by your side at every social gathering, keeping you company and then making sure you got home safe. He was always there when you needed something. You chalked it up to him being a good friend, but what if there was something else behind it? You voiced your theory.
Chan's bitter laugh rang through the room. “Was I that easy to read?" He tore his eyes away from you. “Look, can we just forget this? I don't want to ruin anything.”
You pretended to carefully weigh the option, but you decided the moment he confirmed having a crush on you. “We could do that,” you nodded. “But I have a better idea. What about we discuss it somewhere else, preferably on a date?” You winked at him, which sent Chan into another round of laughter, but this time a much happier one.
“Your flirting sucks, but you're hard to resist,” he smirked, all of his previous mood gone. He was back to the playful Chan you knew. “So when you're free?”

Tumblr media
You threw your bag on the floor, not really caring where it was going to land. You rolled up your sleeves and made sure your hair was out of your face before you walked towards one of the barres in the dance studio. You and the dance team were going to take some promo photos for your Instagram, so naturally, as the captain, you offered to come early and set everything up. Hyunjin and Felix, two of your teammates, were supposed to arrive soon to help you move everything, but you decided you could start on your own.
You prepared the background and removed all unnecessary objects that would get in the way and pose as a distraction in the photos. Then you took out your own decorations and began carefully placing them around the scene to create the illusion of a frequently used place. You were sure the photographer would move at least a half of them because he was an annoying perfectionistic dick, but you needed to keep yourself busy somehow. It was better than just idly sitting and waiting for one of the guys to show up to help you move the heavy stuff.
But now everything you could do was prepared, and Hyunjin and Felix were still nowhere in sight. You were sitting on the spot of the photographer, trying to see if anything could be altered to look better or be pushed out of the way before the equipment was moved to its correct place. As you began to feel frustrated with the two dancers, you got up and walked over to your bag, digging through it to find your phone. A new message awaited you.
Hyunjin
got lost buying coffee. me & lix will be there in 20!!
Me
hurry up!!
Shaking your head, you pocketed your phone. Trust Hyunjin to get lost at the most inconvenient times. You would bet anything that that wasn't even the real reason; Hyunjin could find the way to the studio blindfolded, given how much time he spent here. The more plausible reason was that the two dumbasses simply forgot, and Hyunjin was trying to cover their asses.
Well, the reason wasn't important. More importantly, the photographer would be here soon to set up his equipment, and the barres still needed to be moved. “How heavy can it be, right?” you murmured to yourself and wrapped your hands around one end of the barre. You managed to lift it up just fine, but the other end was still on the ground due to the barre's length. You tried to drag it across the floor, and to your surprise, it moved, but once you heard the ugly screech the floor made, you dropped the bar with a thud. It was not worth damaging the floor.
“Do you want help?” someone said as they walked through the door. A relief washed over you, thinking it was Hyunjin at first, but then you realized the voice and tone didn't match. As you turned around, the relief quickly turned to annoyance because the photographer had arrived.
Kim Seungmin, also known as the pain in your ass. He had been working with you for close to two years now. You weren’t sure how he even got the job in the first place, but you assumed it was Felix's doing since the two were friends. But Seungmin was good, so you kept him around. Much to your dismay, it was always Seungmin's photos and videos that went viral on social media. As a photographer, he was simply amazing, but as a person, not so much, despite everything Felix tried to convince you otherwise. Seungmin was always brutally honest, always had some witty remarks, and wasn't afraid to speak his mind. He would make jokes about anyone and anything. You weren’t an exception to his humor. When he committed to a vision, no one could tell him anything. His attitude made you lose your mind at times. He was an organized rule-follower, but at the same time so carefree, energetic, and just himself. You had to admire that about him. He didn’t care about anything, which was something you secretly envied. You were always too quick to crumble under the judgment of other people, another reason why his jokes affected you so much.
“I'm fine,” you spat out, turning your back to him again. “You can set up over there.” You pointed towards the empty spot close to the window, chosen carefully for natural light. You heard Seungmin scoff, but he did go set down his camera and other things he had brought. You heard footsteps, and then his face was back in your field of vision.
He got rid of his jacket, standing there in a simple t-shirt. He was never the one to dress up, preferring casual clothing, but he had this personal style that looked good on him. You had seen him dressed formally at events, but you liked this Seungmin much more. He looked more relaxed, more like himself. It was this soft style that enhanced his natural beauty the most. That was another thing you would never say to him. So what? You were allowed to think he's pretty while also thinking he's annoying, were you not?
Seungmin grabbed the other end of the barre. “Come on, on three.” He counted it, and together you lifted it up and carried it where it needed to be. You repeated the process with the other barre as well. What surprised you was that for the whole time, Seungmin hadn't uttered any wannabe funny jokes. That was unusual for him. But you could come back to that later. The costumes still needed to be brought in. You went to the hall to find the storage. As you entered the cramped room just down the hall, you spotted the box you needed right on the top shelf. “Perfect,” you muttered under your breath and stood on your toes, trying to reach the box. You managed to somehow wiggle it closer to the edge, and you were praying it wouldn't fall on your head.
Suddenly, you were pushed out of the way. “Wait, let me,” Seungmin said, effortlessly taking the box down. “Anything else?” Stunned, you wordlessly pointed to a smaller box, funnily enough also on top. With his height, Seungmin had no trouble reaching that one either. He placed the box on top of the first one, and before you could say anything, he carried both boxes back outside to where you were going to do the shoot, leaving you alone in the storage closet. You locked it up quickly, and you ran after him. You caught up to him just as he was setting the boxes down in the corner.
“Why are you suddenly nice to me?” you asked, leaning on the door frame. You were confused. Normally, Seungmin would take the piss out of you for your poor planning. But so far, he has been nothing but helpful and kind. “Are you feeling sick?” you added after a few seconds, feeling brave.
“What do you mean?”
You shrugged. “I don't know. Usually, you'd make fun of me. Tell some stupid joke.” You watched carefully his reaction. His body tensed up but then relaxed again. There's something defeated about his attitude now.
Seungmin ran a hand through his bangs. "The truth is, I was trying to get your attention. Clearly, that didn't work,” he mumbled, all of his usual confidence and ease gone.
Oh.
“Well, I'm not surprised,” you scoffed. “If that was your idea of flirting, it sucked.”
Seungmin laughed bitterly. “Yeah, Felix told me that much. Which is why I'm trying a new approach.” He looked up, and you found his eyes bright and sparkling with energy, despite his mood right now. He looked like a puppy, which was so adorable that it was unfair.
Double oh.
Kim Seungmin was trying to flirt with you? In what alternate universe have you found yourself? Never in a million years would you think that was what all his teasing meant, but apparently this was the reality. With horror, you realized you weren’t opposed to the idea. No, you were intrigued. This sudden change in his behavior, what he was telling you now... Looking back at your recent encounters, you realized he was, in fact, nicer than he used to be, but those were still a far cry from today. He still teased you at any given chance. And deep down, you knew that Seungmin was a kind man, but to help you without saying a word like he did just now must have meant something. Maybe what he was saying was really true.
Feeling genuinely curious as well as enjoying the feeling of finally having the upper hand and finally being able to tease him for a change, you voiced your next question. “Why? You like me or something?” You cocked an eyebrow, a smile playing on your lips. You peeled yourself away from the door frame and slowly walked closer to the photographer.
Seungmin seemed to go through all stages of panic in about three seconds. Subconsciously, he began playing with the rings he was wearing as a form of grounding. It was a rare sight to see Seungmin, always so calm and collected, fidgeting and feeling nervous. As evil as it might have sounded, a part of you enjoyed seeing him like this, being put down from the pedestal of confidence he himself built. It made him more like you, more human.
But before Seungmin could answer anything besides a stuttered "I", the door flew open. You had never in your life wanted to smack Hwang Hyunjin more than right now. He barged in, holding a half-empty cup of iced Americano and apologizing loudly. Felix trailed behind him like a lost kitten.
“We're so coming back to this conversation after the shoot,” you said in a hushed voice towards Seungmin, who just dumbly nodded and retreated back to his equipment while you went to scold Hyunjin (and Felix, but you could never be truly mad at him). As you made your way towards the two boys, you didn't notice the proud and amused smirk on Seungmin's face.

Yang Jeongin was never the one to be open with his feelings. He wasn't like Chan, who flirted his way through to everybody. Not like Minho, who was always straightforward with his crushes, telling them how he felt with confidence. He wasn't like Felix, who made people fall in love just with his smile. And he wasn't like Hyunjin, who turned into a complete mess whenever he found himself in close proximity to his crushes. Still, he somehow charmed them into dating him. No, Jeongin was nothing like them. He preferred to stay in the shadows and admire his crush from afar.
And this time around, it was no different. When Jeongin realized he thought of you differently than everyone else, he simply stopped at that. He didn’t make a move or tell anyone. He was content to just make up silly scenarios with you in his head before he went to sleep. To think of you as a dream, an unreachable desire. Just like he did with all of his crushes, until they eventually passed and he moved on.
But despite his best efforts, something changed this time. Maybe it was because, unlike his previous crushes, you two were already friends. But one thing was for sure: You weren’t an ordinary crush. You were something that ran much deeper.
When Jeongin pictured your smile, it made him feel something. He felt the urge to smile whenever you looked at him. The way you said his name sent butterflies into his stomach. When he was in your presence, he felt so free and happy. You were it for him, he realized one night, when he was hopelessly dreaming about you again. Jeongin didn't believe in soulmates, but if he did, he was sure you would be his.
Yet he didn't do anything. He stayed close to you. He accepted your hugs with much less resistance. He made the effort to hang out more often. But he kept silent, loving you from the safety of his bedroom, not letting the world know.
Until he couldn't anymore. So he did what everyone would do. He went to Felix, the resident romantic in your group.
Which is why, two months later, you found yourself with yet another letter. You didn’t know how it began or who was behind it, but at the beginning of every week, you found a letter at your door. They weren’t long, usually just cute little notes about you. Your secret admirer would tell you compliments phrased like lines out of a poetry book. They congratulated you on your achievements and gave you reminders of how well you were doing when something didn't work out the way you wanted. It should be creepy, the way this stranger seemed to know everything about you, every little detail from your personal life as well. They even knew where you lived. But you couldn’t bring yourself to care. Somehow, your heart knew that the admirer was harmless. They would never abuse their knowledge of you. Seungmin thought you should be checked by a psychiatrist, but nobody paid attention to his comments. “He's just jealous because nobody sends him letters,” Felix once said, exchanging a knowing look with Jeongin. Seungmin rolled his eyes at that, looking strangely smug, as if he had just uncovered a mystery. Either way, his remarks on that topic stopped after that.
It didn't change the fact that you still didn't know who gave you the letters. They never left a name, only a drawing of a dandelion. At first, you thought it was a prank, so made all your friends draw you a dandelion, but none of it matched. Another time you tried to stay up and spy on whoever would come in the night to give you a new letter. Four times, you stayed with Felix, who generously volunteered to help you. Sometimes you thought he was more interested in uncovering your secret admirer than you, with how eagerly he helped with finding clues. But despite your joined forces, they always slipped right through your fingers. Only once did you catch sight of a black hoodie running away, but that didn't help in the slightest. It could have been anybody.
Until today. Even before you received the letter, you could sense something was about to change. And you were correct. For starters, today's letter was accompanied by a real dandelion, as they just started to grow. And not only that. Besides the usual notes, there was a request.
I think I'm finally ready to tell you who I am. If you wish to find out, follow the dandelion trail. I'll be waiting.
Confused, you stepped out into the street. And there was, in fact, a dandelion trail. Flowers were taped to walls and streetlights, showing you the way to your admirer. Ignoring the way your heart giddily fluttered at the thought of uncovering the person, you quickly grabbed the necessities and set out on a hunt. It was kind of like some cliché romantic comedy, but you had to admit it was kind of cute. The flowers led you to a nearby park. After a bit of searching, you found a figure clad in the same black hoodie you saw that one night. They stood with their backs to you.
“Hi,” a soft voice said. How the hell did they know you were here? There was no time for questions because the strange voice spoke again. “I've liked you for quite a while, but I never found the courage to tell you. Until now.”
With a hitch of your breath, you realized you knew that voice. The gentle way he spoke, the slight accent, the unique tone. But that couldn’t have been...
Suddenly the hood dropped down, and you saw a very familiar hair colour. The stranger slowly turned around, holding a dandelion crown in his hands and a stupidly adorable smile on his face.
“Jeongin,” you breathed out.
He smiled, pink dusting his cheeks and ears. “I know it was cliché, but I needed to build up the courage,” he confessed with a sheepish smile. He extended his arms towards you, offering you the crown. “What do you say? Be mine?”
For a moment, you stood there silent, completely taken aback. Where was all his confidence coming from? A part of your brain was still coming to terms that your admirer was Jeongin, leaving no room to process that Jeongin, whom you yourself had a small crush on, was the secret admirer who also managed to become your crush.
“Sorry, this is all sort of overwhelming. I think I need a minute,” you admitted. Jeongin's shoulders slumped. Before he could run away like you knew he would, you stopped him. “But I like you too. That I don't need to think about.”
Watching his face light up was the most beautiful thing you ever saw. Laughing at the romantic silliness of the whole scene and because you were just genuinely happy, you let Jeongin put the flower crown on your head.

You let Jisung silently pour more of whatever he was drinking - you weren’t really sure - into your cup. He had his own recipe for mixing drinks that he refused to tell anyone. You didn’t really care anyway, because it tasted good and got you into the right mood without making you feel too drunk too soon. Besides, your mind was occupied by something else, or rather, someone else. From your spot, where you were leaning on the wall next to the door to the kitchen, you had a clear view of Hwang Hyunjin chatting up a cute freckled blonde. You recalled that his name was Felix, and he was in a few of Jisung's classes. And like any other person on campus, not even he was able to resist Hyunjin's spell. You watched Felix blush and hide his face behind his hands. Hyunjin pryed them away with a familiar glint in his eyes. You smirked at how easily Felix fell for Hyunjin's magic, but a part of you felt pity for the boy. After all, you were once in a very similar place to where he is now.
When you and Hyunjin began to date, it was the event of the year. Hyunjin, desired by so many, somehow ended up falling for you. You would be lying if you said you weren’t in love from the moment you spoke to him for the first time, so to find out your feelings were returned was nothing short of ecstatic. Dating Hyunjin felt like a dream come true. He was attentive and affectionate, but he gave you your space. He was the perfect textbook boyfriend, until he wasn't. He began staying in the library until it closed. He began spending more and more time on homework, and your weekly “small dates," where you would just be together, go to a coffee shop, or watch a movie, turned into a monthly occasion. Classes and school corridors were where you met 90% of the time now. And you understood; of course you did. Hyunjin was having a rough time with his classes, and you did your best to support him, but it wasn't enough. No matter how both of you tried, it wasn't enough to sustain a healthy and functional relationship.
You agreed to remain friends, though that was not the reality. Soon after the breakup, Hyunjin distanced himself. You gave him his space, thinking he needed to get over the whole thing. You needed it too, after all. Nonetheless, months passed and nothing changed. Until Hyunjin began his series of hookups. Every party, every event, every social gathering with you present, he found someone new. Someone to take home and never talk to again.
At first, it hurt. Your feelings for Hyunjin never changed, no matter how many times you tried telling yourself it was for the best. You and Hyunjin simply didn't work out; that was how life worked. In a few attempts to forget, you brought home people too, but they could never replace him. So you just stopped trying. Soon, the anger and sadness turned into apathy. You pushed your feelings to the deepest pit of your heart, locking them there. You would get over him eventually, and until then, the feelings would stay there, hidden from everyone.
You averted your eyes from Hyunjin and Felix, who were now making out on the couch, and focused your attention back on Jisung instead, who was waving at you to tell you your drink was ready.
To your pleasure, you didn't run into Hyuniin for most of the night. When you went outside to get some fresh air, though, you soon found yourself in the company of one tall, raven-haired dancer. You looked at Hyunjin through the corner of your eye, begging your brain to not do anything stupid. You hadn't had that much to drink, but you were always kind of lightweight, so the outcome of this situation was up to fate.
“So you're into blondes now?” you asked, doing your best to keep a friendly, teasing tone in an effort to not make it awkward. And speaking to Hyunjin with the same attitude you used to have back when you were together made it easier for you. It allowed you to pretend that, just for a moment, things were normal between you two again.
Hyunjin rolled his eyes. “I've always liked blondes. And he's cute,” he shrugged. His eyes found you and scanned your whole figure. “Can't compare to you, though, sweetheart. None of them could.” Hyunjin kept his eyes on you, looking like a dumb schoolboy with a crush. It was kind of adorable, the way his eyes sparkled with something unknown only you made him feel.
And while Hyunjin didn't seem to realize what he said yet, you were completely taken aback. “You don't mean that,” you said, in a pathetic attempt to keep your feelings safely locked away. Maybe if you convinced him, you would also convince your already raging heart.
He looked at you properly, eye-to-eye. His gaze darkened and lost all its sparkles. His hair was falling out of the complicated hairstyle and into his face, making him look straight out of a drama. The darkness around you, paired with the dim lights from the party, created shadows in all the right places on his face, accentuating his beauty even more than usual.
Hyunjin shook his head. “All of them, I just wanted to forget. Because I still… Fuck.” Hyunjin ran a hand through his hair. “I'm drunk, but I need to tell you because I can't keep pretending. I can't keep bringing them home when all I can think about is you.”
You stood there, silent. You knew he meant every word, even if he was drunk. Hyunjin was an honest person, and no amount of alcohol changed that. You were on edge. Your feelings were returned, and it took all your willpower to not jump at him and kiss him. But you were here before. You tried and you failed, and you knew you couldn’t go through that a second time.
As your heart and brain were fighting over the decision, you found yourself saying: “Yeah, me too.” You sighed, looking away from Hyunjin before you could do something reckless. But life was about risks, so maybe now was the time to throw caution in the wind.
Leaning closer to Hyunjin, you asked: “Can I kiss you?” And when he nodded, you surged forward, not caring about anything else. You will see what the future brings. Good or bad, you'll deal with it all somehow. For now, you will just enjoy the feeling of Hyunjin being yours again.

Soulmates were something you never really believed in. Everybody had one, and the majority of people dedicated a good part of their lives to finding theirs. You thought the whole soulmate thing was kind of stupid. Because even though one had a soulmate, it didn't mean they were going to be with them for the rest of their lives. A friend of yours decided not to search for their soulmate when they received the mark on their twentieth birthday, saying they were happy in their current relationship. And their partner chose the same when their time for the soulmark came. On the other hand, you watched another friend move across the world because of a soulmate, so you weren’t really sure what to make out of the situation, except for the fact that, in the end, soulmates are kind of stupid. Everyone told you to wait for your own soulmate, because then you would understand. But no matter what they said, the idea of having the universe choose a partner for you didn't sit right with you.
And until your birthday, that was indeed the opinion you followed. But when you woke up with the soulmark adorning your right wrist, something inside you changed. Maybe it was because you could finally feel the inner desire of your soul to be met with their destined other half, but you felt this strange urge to meet your soulmate.
“Stupid tattoo,” you mumbled, raising your hands to rub your eyes. As your vision cleared, you caught sight of the black ink imprinted into your skin. A heart made out of thorns. The same tattoo Jeongin showed your friend group not so long ago. “Fuck.” With a groan, you collapsed back into bed again.
When you finally made it out of bed and made yourself look presentable, you called Jeongin immediately. You refused to tell him what was going on over the phone, reducing the situation to a simple “We have a problem.” So now you were making tea, waiting for Jeongin to show up at your apartment. And he indeed came at a Jeongin-accurate time, which was exactly seven minutes after what you agreed on.
Jeongin came in, his trademark grin on his face. After a quick greeting, he sat down at the table, giving you a grateful smile when you slid one of the cups of tea towards him. He took a sip, but his eyes never left your face. How he managed to do it without spilling the liquor was beyond you, but that thought got quickly pushed to the side by another.
You didn't know whether it was the soulmate bond trying its hardest to convince you or you just never truly paid attention, but until now, you never realized how beautiful Jeongin was. His sharp, defined jaw, in contrast with his soft smile and dark eyes that lit up whenever he got excited, created the unique human being in front of you, completed by messy, washed-out-pink hair. His cute looks were definitely a part of his boyish charm, though you knew that if he wanted to, he could be the sexiest man on Earth. His duality was just insane, and you didn't know why you didn't see it sooner.
Jeongin cleared his throat to get your attention. “So what exactly happened?” he asked, tilting his head to the side like he always did when he was confused.
“Yeah, um, sorry,” you murmed, forcing your eyes to stare at your cup of tea, hoping to hide the embarrassment of getting caught staring. “Right, so you know how I was supposed to get my soulmark today,” you said, shyly looking up to see Jeongin's reaction. “Well, that's what happened.” You rolled up your sleeve and extended your arm across the table.
Jeongin's eyes went wide, staring at the heart. After a few seconds of silence, his eyes flew up to your face, then back to the soulmark again. He raised his left arm, showing his wrist to you. An identical heart was there; you both already knew it. But Jeongin needed to see them together to truly convince himself that this was reality. “You're not kidding, are you?” He asked, inspecting your soulmarks, even though it was crystal clear that those hearts were exactly the same. You shook your head and watched Jeongin's lips stretch into a happy smile at your words.
He gently grabbed your hand, intertwining your fingers in a tight grasp and pressing the soulmarks together. Your hands fit together like pieces of a puzzle, soulmarks perfectly alining. Quite literally, you were destined to be.
At the contact between his skin and yours, something went off inside your chest. Your heart was suddenly flooded with this warm feeling. It wasn't quite happiness, more so a sense of home and belonging somewhere. Belonging with Jeongin. Your soul found its other half, and suddenly it felt like finding something you never knew you had lost. It was beautiful. And judging by his expression, Jeongin felt exactly the same.
Everyone was right after all. Maybe the soulmate magic wasn't so stupid, you thought to yourself later that day when you laid on the couch, cuddled up to your soulmate's side. Maybe this whole thing is actually kind of awesome because it gave you someone like Jeongin.

Immediately after entering the studio, you were swarmed by a group of stylists and makeup artists. Despite being in the industry for a few years now, this was something you were still getting used to. You weren’t a risk-loving person, quite the opposite, actually. You liked to have everything planned out beforehand and to know where you were going and what you were going to be doing. You liked to be prepared. You liked control. Nonetheless, photoshoots were not that kind of thing. It usually depended on who you were working with, but more often than not, you weren’t told what you were going to shoot. The company would provide a short questionnaire about things you were and weren’t comfortable with, but they barely told you the theme. And even though you loved being a model, this part of the job was not your favourite.
And Kim Seungmin was the worst of them. He was a freelance photographer, a highly demanded one, but he often set aside the time to do some photoshoots of his own to update his portfolio and Instagram. And he liked to rope his friends into modeling for him. Having met him all the way back in high school and being a professional model on top of being his girlfriend, no wonder you were on top of his list. Unfortunately for you, he liked to keep his concepts a secret, refusing to tell you anything except the time and location. For reasons unknown to you, you always said yes, though. Maybe it was the pleading puppy eyes he mastered over the years, or because you knew he would never make you do anything you were truly uncomfortable with. And so he kept asking, and you kept agreeing.
And that was how you found yourself in a makeup chair in front of a not very stable table with a mirror placed on top of it. It certainly wasn't the best makeup station you saw, but on the other hand, you were in an abandoned warehouse that supposedly inspired Seungmin, so it could have been worse. At least three stylists were currently occupied by your hairstyle for the shoot, while others argued about the shade of your eyeshadow. You sighed and relaxed in the chair. This was going to take some time.
Three braids later, some comotion could be heard by the entrance. When you turned your head to the source, you saw Jeongin walking towards the makeup station, looking excited. You should have guessed he would be here. Besides you, Jeongin was Seungmin's favourite model. And he especially liked photographing you two together, claiming the visuals were out of this world.
You greeted Jeongin politely when he sat down. Despite him being Seungmin's best friend, you never hung out much with him, aside from photoshoots. You tried to make small talk with him as the stylists were getting both of you ready, but it was so awkward that you were glad when the makeup artists told you to be quiet so as not to mess up the makeup.
Seungmin arrived soon after. He came by the station to greet you and Jeongin. “Any guesses on the concept yet? This one is pretty obvious,” he smirked, tilting his head to Jeongin, who was now dressed in a loose white shirt and tight pants, with knee-high boots ready. You shook your head. Well, you had your ideas but didn't want to say them out loud in front of Seungmin. He made it a game to let you guess the themes for photoshoots, rewarding you with a kiss whenever you guessed right. More often than not, you didn't, though, and he would mock you for it (with love, of course). So you started to refuse to tell him, making him pout about ruining the game. It was an endless back-and-forth, but that was just how the two of you worked. Love disguised as bickering and teasing.
Half an hour later, when you were in your costumes, the concept finally became clear. Faeries, specifically a faerie queen and a king. While you and Jeongin were getting dressed, Seungmin and the rest of the crew created a scene that looked like something out of a dark fairytale. The old warehouse was decorated with lights, sheer fabric, flowers, and all the typical faerie items, which strongly contrasted with the ruins around you. Someone even made a half-broken throne, and after the first few poses, it was explained to you that you and Jeongin represented the faerie conquerors after their victory, claiming the throne of the land they left destroyed. The concept was a complex story that made your head hurt a little bit trying to fully understand the vision, but that was normal for Seungmin. You let it go and focused on being the best dark queen you could be.
After the shoot, Seungmin asked you to stay for a little bit. You sat down next to him, throwing an arm around his shoulder and leaning into his side. Seungmin shoved the camera in front of you. “You looked beautiful,” he said, showing you the first couple of pictures. “My scary queen.” Looking at the pictures, you had to agree with him. You looked majestic, with the background and your costume creating this mysterious and dangerous aura around you. You went over the rest of the pictures with him, smiling when he paused to point out a detail, excitedly telling you how you captured his vision perfectly.
“I knew what I was doing when I started dating a model,” he mused, yelping in pain when you smacked his shoulder playfully.
“Hey.” You put on an offended face. “So that's the only reason we're dating, Kim Seungmin?” You cocked your brow and watched him agree with a mischievous smirk on his face. "Well, you should know that I only agreed to date you because you take pretty pictures,” you replied, suppressing a smile. You needed to keep up your mock offense a bit longer.
“See, it's mutually beneficial,” Seungmin shrugged and swiftly avoided another hit to his arm. During that, he lost his balance and fell from the bench, his camera still in his hands. You couldn’t help but laugh as he went down, desperately trying to shield the camera from the impact. When he looked up from the ground with furrowed brows, you only laughed harder.

“Jisung? Jisung, come on, you need to move,” you groaned, trying to push your boyfriend off of you. He had been laying on top of you ever since he came back from the studio, which was at least half an hour ago. He hadn't moved or fallen off despite you squirming under him, which was honestly admirable, so you let him. But now your bladder was starting to make itself known, so you restarted the attempts at pushing him away. “I'll be right back, I promise, Ji. I just need to use the bathroom, and then you can lay on me again,” you pleaded. Jisung seemed to consider your proposal, which almost made you smack him with a pillow. What was there to consider in such a request? Thankfully, he moved away soon, and you sprinted from the bed in the direction of the bathroom.
You came back to a pouty rapper on your bed. “You seriously won't survive for five minutes without me, will you?” you mocked him, but there was no malice in your tone, and Jisung knew. Your eyes were overflowing with fondness and affection for him, as they were every time you looked at the rapper. “You're so fucking whipped for him, always giving him the heart eyes,” Minho remarked one day before you and Jisung got together. “Shut up,” you whined then, but now you had to admit Minho was right after all. At least you weren’t alone in that pit, Jisung too had the disgustingly in-love expression whenever you were in the same room, as his members liked to point out to tease him.
You walked back to the bed, where Jisung patiently waited. “You threaded your fingers into his hair, gently massaging his scalp as he leaned into the touch and closed his eyes in contentment. You smiled and moved to kneel on the bed next to him. Your hand never stopped its ministrations, which turned out to be a rather difficult task as you tried to keep your balance climbing onto the bed, but somehow you managed. Resting your back against the wall behind your bed, you pulled Jisung into your lap. His head found its place in the place where your shoulder met your neck, and he sighed, completely relaxed. You circled your arms around his waist, keeping him in place. Not that he would ever try to run away, in fact, Jisung said on multiple occasions that you were his favourite pillow. You just liked to hold him, enjoying how small he felt in your embrace. With his eyes closed, his face buried in your neck, and his chest slowly rising and falling, he looked so much younger and more vulnerable than he was. A sense of possessiveness lit up in your chest, along with the need to protect him from everything.
You leaned down to place a few kisses in his hair. That action made Jisung smile, and you only held him tighter. Jisung sleepily suggested watching some anime, claiming to be too tired to do anything but still awake enough to not fall asleep. You agreed. Keeping one hand around his body, you, by some miracle, managed to place the laptop onto the bed before maneuvering both of you to lie on your sides. You wrapped around Jisung's back like a koala while he searched for a show to watch.
You barely got to the end of the first episode before you could hear his soft snoring. “Not tired my ass,” you scoffed. As if he heard you, Jisung made a disapproving sound in his sleep, and you rushed to stroke his hair comfortingly, muttering apologies in between placing kisses on his neck and shoulder, ushering him deeper into his sleep through the gentle touches. When you were sure he wasn't going to wake up, you moved the laptop away and settled more comfortably behind him. Reaching for a blanket, you covered both of you and closed your eyes, drifting off to sleep not long after.
