People are saying the moral of squid game was that evil rich people always win and there's no point in fighting back against capitalism, but I don't think that was what the creator was getting at.
In-ho spent all of s2&3 trying to prove to Gi-hun and himself that Gi-hun was just like him. That people are all violent, cruel and selfish at their core. That trash deserve to die. That anyone would make the same choice he did.
But Gi-hun proved him wrong. There *are* good people. Not everyone would have made the same choice In-ho did. Gi-hun chose not to ruthlessly murder helpless people to save himself. He chose to sacrifice himself for his friend's innocent baby. He chose compassion, humanity, and selflessness at the cost of his own life.
You can always choose to be good. You can always choose to help others. Even if you can't save the world and the bad guys still win in the end, you can always choose light. 'You can win but you can't break me'. That was the point. That was the message.
#this guy gets it!!#i was a bit unsure about where they were going with the baby at first too#but this post highlights really well that it's about how even if gi-hun couldn't save everyone or completely destroy the games#there's a person out there who got to have a life because of him#like who literally would never have had a life outside of the games if not for his sacrifice#not to mention the fact that even just stopping the korean games protects so many people who would have been future players

no but hyun-ju's character is so fucking impactful in today's political climate specifically. squid game really said here's a trans woman who is incredibly kind hearted and gentle but capable of great violence when it's needed. she's gotten herself into a bad situation because she has no other way to fund her transition and that's not framed as something stupid and shallow, but as a heartbreaking reality that many people face irl. her past as a military man is one of her greatest strengths. she protects the weak and the elderly. she dies for two women she befriended in a BATHROOM a few days prior.
#squid game spoilers#squid game 3 spoilers#i think she's such wonderful representation bc i absolutely see the trans women i know and love in her!!#she's so strong and brave and kind#and uplifting and protective of other women#also thought the show did a very good job of showing her situation of not being able to fund her transition as sympathetic and unjust#and of not portraying her as any less of a woman for not having had all the surgeries or w/e#and touching on some of the big issues like trans people's presence in bathrooms too! a big win overall#AND big spoilers but i did note that her death was absolutely not gratuitously violent. it was tragic and upsetting but handled well imo
