                            cindy  looked  over  at  nick  goode.  she  was  weary  of  employing  his  help,  or  anyone’s  help  for  that  matter.  she  had  gotten  paranoid  in  her  old  age,  especially  when  it  came  to  the  new  killings.  “  i  know  what’s  coming.  ”  she  said  after  a  moment.  she  brought  the  cup  of  tea  to  her  mouth  to  take  a  sip.    she  didn’t  know  how  much  longer  shadyside  could  keep  bleeding  without  being  able  to  treat  the  wound.

                            after  camp  nightwing  all  of  they  seemed  to  be  open  wounds.  people,  places,  none  of  it  was  how  cindy  remembered  it.  she  looked  over  at  joan.  they  hadn’t  really  been  friends  prior  to  this.  both  from  shadyside  the  elder  berman  made  an  active  effort  to  not  fall  into  the  stereotypes  of  their  side  of  town.  cindy  approaches  her  now  though,  “  i  see  your  heart  is  bleeding  too.  ”  voice  is  soft,  eyes  are  wide.  she  just  wants  to  help.

A reason for Shadyside’s constant disappointment had to result in some sort of… whatever it was with that Sarah Fier curse. Was it? It made no sense, even if the myth of it seemed like a reasonable cause, with the chaos among the camp, was it true? It had to be. So much ignited within Ziggy’s thoughts, focused and unfocused, trying to make sense of it all in a single moment. That was near impossible, but what was true was that Cindy was alive, that she was okay. “No, no. Don’t apologize… I didn’t.. I didn’t know this was going to happen. We didn’t know, Cindy. I don’t know why it’s happening,” rushed words let out as both hands kept her sister within arm’s length, afraid to let her go. “Are you okay? —Are you hurt?”

                  it  was  hard  not  to  be  tense.  another  this  was  a  moment  of  reprieve,  holding  her  sister,  knowing  she  was  safe.  this  night  seemed  to  stretch  out  in  front  of  them  and  the  ground  was  moving.  they  could  never  quite  catch  their  step.  “  we  found  stones  in  the  woods,  they  were  around  all  of  this  witchy  stuff.  tommy’s  name  was  carved  into  stone  -  all  of  the  shadyside  killers  were.  ”  she  didn’t  know  what  it  all  meant  right  now  but  the  wheels  in  her  mind  were  turning,  trying  to  solve  the  puzzle  before  they  were  too  late.  there  is  a  quiet  nod  from  the  elder  berman,  “  i’m  fine.  messy,  but  good.  and  you  ?  ”

                          cindy  nodded.  some  of  the  details  slipped  through  the  cracks.  “  oh,  all  right.  ”    aside  from  a  school  show  once,  where  she  had  been  tree  number  four,  cindy  had  absolutely  no  knowledge  of  acting  or  anything  in  that  realm.  at  the  question  she  gave  a  small  shrug,  “  right  now  i’m  going  to  be  a  camp  counselor  for  the  summer.  it’s  not  too  fancy  but  it’ll  be  fun.  ”

                  cindy  was  finally  out  of  the  hospital.  in  new  clothes  that  didn’t  smell  like  her  normal  detergent  and  a  slower  walk  than  she  was  used  to.  it  was  only  natural  that  she  had  a  release  party  was  with  teddy  in  attendance.  some  of  the  long  term  nurses  wish  her  goodbye  but  it’s  only  when  she  reached  the  pavement  with  the  sun  steaming  onto  her  skin  that  it  feels  real  again.  cindy  looks  over  at  teddy  with  a  wide  grin,  her  mothers  key  dangle  from  her  fingertips.  she  hadn’t  been  able  to  get  the  day  off  to  pick  cindy  up.  “  i  need  a  new  partner  in  crime  and  you’re  shotgun.  ”
