the inherent hilarity of Antigone Funn and her brother's arch enemy Eric Chapman having not just a little sweet fling, but a heart-wrenching tragic 'they loved each other but at different times' saga that is implied to become a full romance now that they're on the same page and clearly perfect for each other to the point that we all kind of assume that they're going to become a permanent item. Imagine Rudyard having to cope with the fact that Chapman is going to become his brother-in-law. Imagine how often Antigone would get called a traitor for casually working for both funeral homes. Antigone begging her brother not to kill Eric now, it's Christmas, for heaven's sake Rudyard! Georgie reminding her boss and her other boss' husband no feuding at the dinner table. It would be like Steve Carlsberg and Cecil Palmer if Steve gave as much bitchiness as he got and I'm so fucking here for it. Wow.

Something about the ending we get for Antigone and Chapman reminds me of my favorite little fun fact about 2005's Pride and Prejudice. They added a scene to the American version, where Darcy and Lizzie are sitting by the water kissing and talking about pet names. They did not have nor need it in the British version. Longing stares, hand flexes and a sincere proposal was enough. But despite my parents best efforts I am very American. I need obvious kissy kissy scenes to know this is authorial intent and not me reading into things. Also I am autistic.

You know I very much love and appreciate how Antigone's relationship with sex is written. You really can't uncouple her artistic passion with her sexuality and her sexual desire because every time she goes into expressing her self creatively it comes back to love and sex.

There's times where its more obvious like her raunchy novels or the play but even things like the chocolates and how she wants to be creative and thoughtful about funerals there's something about wanting to be seen and understood which is why her success in In the Buff is poignant and a good conclusion to her artistic arc, she succeeds in what she's doing and with a sensual edge. She want to be seen, she wants to be desirable, she wants to have what other people have. Which in Piffling is sex.

She doesn't do art for art's sake. Props to you who do but for her art is an outlet for the lonely isolated life she's been living, her books and films are ways for her to voyeuristically live the life she wishes she could. It's for other people because that's all there is. She wants sex in her life and as a 35 year old "creepy girl" having her self esteem grow and through her art and expressing that desire is integral. The hopeful gratification of embracing the man who can give that to her with the promise of coffee and her confidence growing to get what she wants is not for nothing.

Sex isn't frivolous when it comes to Antigone, its a clear desire from the first episode and her art is for communicating that.
