hyun-ju catches you glancing at her and back to that little book of yours, curiosity feeds her as she wonders what is inside.
a.n . i am so sorry if it's been awhile since i've written something, writer's block and the fact college season is back is driving me nuts. i hope you enjoy this short little(longish) story!
It was a lazy afternoon in Hyun-Juâs shared apartment. Her head rested against the warm windowpane as she gazed at the endless blue sky, her thoughts drifting. The gentle breeze carried the sound of childrenâs laughter below, blending with the melody of seashell chimes swaying nearby.
Across from her, you sat with your sketchbook balanced on your knees, pencil scratching against paper. Your hand moved with quiet determination, stealing glances at your girlfriend as sunlight framed her peaceful beauty. Each glance inspired you to capture her essence, pouring it into your work.
Noticing your looks, Hyun-Ju tilted her head, a curious smile tugging at her lips. âWhatâre you doing, hun?â she playfully teased, her eyes studying you. Hidden behind the sketchbook, you hummed distractedly, too focused to notice her pout.
âY/nnnnn,â she whined, leaning in close until her face was near yours.
âLoveeee,â you mimicked her tone, quickly snapping your sketchbook shut. The thought of her seeing your sketches filled you with nervousnessâwhat if she thought it was weird?
Her eyes flicked to the sketchbook. âWhatâre you drawing?â she asked, her voice warm with curiosity.
âJust⌠something. Nothing too detailed,â you replied, heart racing as you tried to keep your secret.
Hyun-Juâs almond-shaped eyes sparkled with interest. âCan I see? Iâm sure itâs amazing,â she said warmly.
Her compliment melted your hesitation. You werenât confident in your art, being self-taught and wary of criticism, but hearing encouragement from someone you loved made you reconsider.
âI donât know, you might not like it,â you trailed off, your eyes avoiding hers.
âPlease love, I want to seeâŚYou never show me whatâs in that little book of yours.â She pleaded, giving you those irresistible puppy eyes of hers.
God, that adorable look of hers made you want to give in, but those nagging insecurities held you back, hijacking any chance of Hyun-Ju seeing your sketchbook. Your mind turned into a courtroom, arguments flying back and forth as you debated with yourself. Yet, when you glanced at her again, the genuine curiosity in her eyes was impossible to ignore. She truly cared about what you were creating.
And so, you gave in.
With a sigh, you hesitantly handed her the light orange book. As her hands brushed yours, taking the sketchbook, it felt like youâd handed over a piece of your soul. The weight of it left your hands, but the anxiety remained. You quickly averted your gaze as she opened it, your heart pounding in your chest.
You prayed she wouldnât say anything mean, regretting your decision almost immediately. The silence was unbearable, every second stretching endlessly. Your mind spiraled, conjuring the worst scenarios. What if she hated it? What if she thought your art was ugly? Doubts clashed in your head, each one louder than the last, waging a war you couldnât escape.
All your worries drifted away when she say, âLove, you never told me you can draw thisâŚ.itâs amazing!â Hyun-juâs eyes gleamed with stars as she flipped through more of your artworks. âHow are you so talented? Your sketches are so well detailed and clean!â Her eyes gleamed with astonishment. She was utterly speechless, no words could form as she was so enthralled by the beauty of the images you drew. You. Her girlfriend, an amazing artist. In her mind such talent is worth sharing.
âHow could you hide this talent of yours?â
âI just donât see the point of showing it to othersâŚ.â
Hearing your words, Hyun-Ju rolled her eyes playfully and pinched your cheek lightly. âItâs worth showing it to me,â she insisted, emphasizing the âmeâ with a teasing smile as she continued flipping through the pages.
Her fingers paused on a bookmarked page, and her eyes widened when she saw itâa drawing of herself. A bright smile spread across her face as she admired the intricate details. You had captured her perfectly, from the curve of her smile to the sparkle in her eyes. Most of the sketches showed her smiling, and she couldnât help but feel warmth bloom in her chest.
Laying her head on your crossed leg, she lifted the sketchbook to show you the drawing, her expression filled with pride and affection.
You felt your heart swell and your confidence grow from her praise. Never in your life had anyone shown such genuine love for your work, and it filled you with a newfound motivation to keep drawing. Smiling softly, you ran your fingers through her hair as she pointed out more sketches, her voice laced with admiration.
Looking up at you, Hyun-Ju smirked mischievously. âYou should draw Jeong-Hyeok and give it to me,â she teased, pointing at a blank page with a playful finger.
âNo,â you replied firmly, shaking your head.
âBut love, please? You have the power to draw anything,â she pleaded, her tone both sweet and dramatic, making you roll your eyes and chuckle at her antics.

HYUN-JU x READER WHO WEARS GLASSES
pairings. cho hyun-ju x f!reader
author's note: totally didn't write this just because i wear glasses lol.. anyways, my requests for hyun-ju are open, but check this out if you wanna request for other squid game characters. if you don't see the character you want to request for send me an ask!

⸠hyun-ju herself has a sharp eye, we've all seen it. how she manages to target each guard with very little struggle & how she spots and hits! every security cam in the room with ease.
⸠her sight is precise, like an eagle. different from you, yours is more like a... woodpecker.
⸠it makes for a subtle dynamic in your relationship. like how she's the one that reads directions from afar when you aren't wearing your glasses, or how she always carries lens wipes in her purse or pocket.
⸠if you were in the games with her, she would be more protective over your glasses than you are. "just leave it, i'll buy a new one. eventually." you shrug, "are you joking? you're just gonna continue blind?" â "hyun-ju, i can still see!"
⸠she wouldn't be the type to joke about it, but she would definitely tease from time to time. like after you just woke up, she'll laugh while holding her fingers up, "how many fingers do you see?" just to get a laugh out of you.
â¸she thinks its cute that you have glasses, she 100% would be type to say "it's adorable how you have your gorgeous eyes framed." while pushing your glasses up so they don't slip.
⸠if you ever bring up the fact that you want to change to just wearing contacts or if you do switch to contacts, she would bring your glasses everywhere just in case.
⸠oh and, when i say her sight is sharp, i also mean it in a way where she also notices everything. and not only when it comes to your glasses too. if you need something, she'll know right away. if your body language feels off, she'll ask if everything is okay. if you feel cold or let out a tiny cough, she'll immediately lend whatever jacket or coat she has on.
⸠oh and if it's raining, she'll wipe the raindrops from your glasses, softly of course, so they don't blur your lenses.
⸠i think her acts of service-ness really plays a part in your relationship. to summarize it all up, she would be really caring and protective, her purse filled with your eyedrops, glasses case, and everything you would ever need.

untitled . cho hyun-ju
Hyun-Ju stared out the window at the bustling streets below. Nights like this always weighed heavily on herânights when sleep felt like a distant luxury. Her gaze remained fixed on the city lights as the haunting memories of that dreadful game replayed in her mind. The echo of screams and gunfire was replaced by the hum of car engines and the occasional honk of a horn. It was a small comfort, a reminder that she was far from that nightmare, safe in the warmth of a soft, cozy bed.
Her thoughts drifted to you, and her heart softened. She remembered how, the moment she returned, her first instinct was to find you. Oh, how she longed to be in your arms again, to feel the familiar warmth of your embrace and the gentle kiss on her cheek that always welcomed her. It felt like only yesterdayâthe day she knocked on your apartment door. You had stood there, smiling through tears, as if you couldnât believe she was truly there.
Suddenly, a pair of warm arms wrapped around her waist, pulling her back to the present. She flinched slightly at the unexpected touch but quickly relaxed.
âHi,â you mumbled groggily, your voice muffled by sleep. You clung to her, resting your cheek against her back, seeking the comfort of her presence. The empty space beside you had roused you, and without hesitation, you wrapped her in your arms.
âIâm sorry Did I wake you?â she asked softly, her hand instinctively covering yours. There was a hint of guilt in her voice, but as her heartbeat steadied against your touch, she felt a wave of quiet relief.
You shook your head, holding her a little tighter. The thought of her sitting alone in the dark tugged at your heart. You knew her sleepless nights all too wellâthe ones haunted by the shadows of her past. Though you admired her resilience, you couldnât ignore the weight she carried.
Gently, you shifted to face her, cupping her cheek in your hand. Leaning in, you pressed a tender kiss to her forehead. âI love you,â you whispered, your voice filled with warmth and reassurance. Your thumb brushed against her cheek, a small gesture meant to soothe her.
She met your gaze with a soft smile, her eyes brimming with affection. âI love you too,â she murmured, her voice barely above a whisper. Those words, fragile yet precious, felt like a promiseâa quiet affirmation that she was here, with you, safe.
As you lay back together, she nestled against your chest, her head resting where she could hear the steady rhythm of your heartbeat. The once-deafening screams and cries were replaced by that soothing cadence. The cold, unyielding bed of her memories gave way to the warmth of your embrace, and the scent of blood was replaced by the faint, familiar trace of your perfume.
Your fingers gently combed through her hair, twirling the strands in a soothing rhythm. She looked up at you, her eyes soft and full of gratitude. âThank you for being here with me,â she whispered, her voice delicate, like a breeze carrying her deepest emotions.
Her lips brushed against the nape of your neck in a tender kiss, and her arms tightened around you as she clung to you like a koala, unwilling to let go.
The warmth of your body lulled her to sleep, her breathing slowing as she drifted off. Looking down at her peaceful face, you made a quiet vow to yourself: you would always be there to make her smile, no matter what. Pressing one last kiss to her head, you closed your eyes and let sleep claim you both, the world outside forgotten in the safety of each otherâs arms.
a.n . this one kinda random, and itâs like 2am but i just cant sleep so sorry if it isnât my best work LOL having sleep troubles is no go frl !!

Hi everyone,
I forgot to clarify this before writing for Hyun-Ju, but I am a cisgender female. I deeply care about her character and the significant impact she has had on the transgender community, and I donât want to unintentionally mischaracterize her and the trouble she faces. Iâm incredibly grateful that everyone enjoys the stories Iâve created for her, and Iâm always open to feedback to improve!
Love,
Mars

" When I reveal my feelings I hope your opinion of me won't change When I confess my secrets I hope your opinion of me won't change " - patingin by ben&ben
in which . in which Hyun-ju comes back after the events of the game and she happens to bump into her partner who she left without an explanation.
cho hyun-ju x reader (fem) . angst/fluff
based off . âĄ
Strolling through the busy streets, you stumbled upon your favorite cafĂŠ. As you stepped inside, you were greeted by the comforting aroma of coffee and vanilla, wrapping around you like a warm embrace. Sweet bossa nova music played softly in the background, blending with the gentle hum of conversations. It was the perfect day to settle down and work in the cozy atmosphere of the cafĂŠ. After ordering your usual coffee and sweet treats, you made your way to a nearby table by the window.
Taking your seat, you gazed out at the bustling street. Sure, it might seem clichĂŠ to someâa solitary figure at a window seat in a cafĂŠâbut to you, it was a small joy. The window wasnât just a pane of glass; it was a lens into the endless stories unfolding outside. Watching strangers go about their lives, you found yourself imagining their worlds. Two girls walked past in school uniformsâyou guessed they were high schoolers, maybe around fourteen or fifteen. Your eyes followed a middle-aged man pedaling his bike, his neatly pressed office attire suggesting he worked in accounting or something similar.
It fascinated you how everyoneâs lives were so different from your own. Each person outside that window carried a story youâd never fully know, lives that were nothing like yoursâboring, miserable, yet oddly peaceful and happy in their own way. And for a moment, watching them, you felt connected to something bigger, as though their differences somehow brought you closer to understanding your own quiet existence.
Your thoughts suddenly come to an end when you hear a group of people laughing next to you. You wish you had your earbuds with you to drown out the sounds but the gods were against you and made you forget to bring it. Wallowing in your sadness, you heard a familiar laugh coming from the table next to you and it made your mind race, turning to the table next to youâŚ
It was her. For a moment, you froze, your breath hitching in your chest. Oh, how you wished this was a dreamâbecause it certainly felt like one. A dream so vivid, so achingly beautiful, that the thought of waking up filled you with dread. But it wasnât a dream. The world around you blurred and faded, leaving only her, like the central figure in a watercolor painting.
And then you heard it, her laughter. That soft, melodic sound you thought youâd forgotten but never truly could. It was like a gentle breeze carrying fragments of your past, filling you with a bittersweet ache. That laughter brought you back to a time when everything felt lighter, simpler, and whole. Nostalgia crashed into you, raw and unrelenting, pulling at the corners of your heart.
You wanted to move, to say something, but all you could do was sit there, drinking in the moment. That sound, that sight of herâit was a warmth you hadnât felt in what seemed like forever. And for just an instant, you allowed yourself to believe that this wasnât just a fleeting memory or a trick of your longing mind but something real, something you could hold onto, even if only for a little while.
You hadnât realized how long your gaze had been fixed on her until you noticed she was looking back at you. Her almond-shaped brown eyes met yours, locking you in place. She gave you a smile like before, but your mind drifted to how beautiful and ethereal she looked as the sun from the window embraced her figure. Her hair was tied neatly into a ponytail, the soft simple makeup making her look beautiful. You felt like you were seeing an angel for the first time, you felt like you were seeing her for the first time. And it made her heart skip a beat. You noticed how she excused herself to her friends and she was now making her way towards your table, quickly you moved your laptop and notepad away, your fingers running through your hair as you fixed it and made it look more presentable.Â
âHiâŚâ Hyun-ju said shyly, looking right at you with a soft smile, you looked up from your notepad and gave her a tight smile. Awkward silence filled the air as the tall woman stood still in front of your table, you took notice and felt bad. You motioned your hand to the empty chair in front of you indicating that she can take that seat. Another set of awkward silence filled the coffee shop, the tension was so thick you felt as if coming to this cafe was a mistake.Â
âYou look beautiful today.â
The words hung in the air, soft but sincere, making Hyun-ju pause. Her eyes flickered to you, but you avoided her gaze, focusing instead on the cup in your hands. Still, the familiar warmth spread through her chest. Hearing you call her beautiful always meant the world to her. It was a reminder that you saw her, loved her, just as she was. Yet, the pang of guilt was unavoidable. She had walked away without a word, leaving behind questions that she still couldnât answer.
âThank you,â she murmured, her voice barely above a whisper. Her eyes caught the faint smile tugging at your lips, and something shifted. A flicker of hope sparked within her, a fragile belief that maybe, just maybe, there was still a chance to mend what had been broken.
As if on cue, both of you started speaking at the same time, your voices overlapping awkwardly. You exchanged startled glances before bursting into quiet laughter, the sound breaking the tension between you. It was a silly, fleeting moment, but it carried a strange weight. For a second, it felt like you were teenagers again, stumbling through the nerves of a first date. Or perhaps it was just the awkwardness of two people who once knew each other so well, trying to find their footing again.
You stole another glance at Hyun-ju, and the sight of her hit you harder than you expected. The ache in your chest flared up, a sharp reminder of the emptiness her absence had left behind. No matter how much you had tried to fill that void, it had never worked. And now, sitting here with her, you couldnât help but wonder if that missing piece had always been her.
But words refused to come. Your throat tightened, the lump there stubbornly blocking every thought, every feeling you wanted to voice. The two of you sat in silence, the weight of everything unspoken pressing down. Yet, in the quiet, there was something unbreakableâa connection that time and distance hadnât erased.
You hear Hyun-ju clear her throat, you glance at her as she says, âIâŚI miss you, itâs been a while.â It made you smile a bit despite the hurt you were feeling inside, âI miss you too.â You said softly, as your thumb caresses the warm cup of coffee. You never felt this wave of emotions before, something so bittersweet. Sadness and hurt was evident on your face and Hyun-ju can clearly see it.Â
Your teary eyes locked with hers. âFunny, isnât it? Itâs been five weeks. Five weeks since I last heard from you.â Your voice wavered, though you tried to mask it with a frown. âAnd now, here you are, showing up as if nothing happened.â The words came out colder than you intended, laced with the bitterness that had been festering in the void her absence left behind.
Hyun-ju stood frozen, her lips parting slightly as if to speak, but no words came. What could she even say? Would you believe her if she told you the truth? That she had been kidnapped, thrust into a series of deadly games because of her debts and her desperation to complete her transition? That she had watched countless lives end in horrifying ways, the weight of survival pressing down on her with every passing second?
You noticed the flicker of conflict in her expression, and it only fueled your frustration. âLook,â you said sharply, âif you donât want to deal with thisâusâitâs fine. Just say it.â Your voice cracked, but before you could say more, Hyun-ju cut you off.
âY/N.â Her voice was firm, but there was a tremor in it. âI never said I didnât want this. Or that I wanted it to be over. You mean too much to me.â Her gaze dropped, her voice softening. âYou⌠you wouldnât understand. Thatâs the problem.â
âUnderstand what, Hyun-ju?â you snapped, your frustration boiling over. âYou canât just show up and expect me to be okay after you disappeared without a word. No call, no text, nothing. Five weeks, Hyun-ju. Five.â Your hands trembled as you clenched them into fists, your voice growing harsher. âDo you know how hard I tried to find you? How much I worried? Donât tell me I donât understand when youâre not even telling me what Iâm supposed to understand.â
Your words hung heavy in the air, cutting through the fragile tension like a blade. You didnât want to sound this harsh, but the hurt, confusion, and stress had built up too much to hold back. It wasnât just the absence that hurtâit was the silence, the unanswered questions, the sense that she had left you in the dark without a second thought.
The tone of your voice cut through Hyun-juâs heart more deeply than you could ever know. Her chest ached with guilt, the weight of her choices pressing down on her. She had thought leaving without a word was the right thing to doâa way to protect you from the chaos of her life. But now, facing the consequences, she realized how wrong she had been. Immature. Thoughtless.
âI justâŚâ Her voice faltered, barely above a whisper. âI thought you wouldnât love me anymore⌠that Iâd be a disgrace to you, the way I am to everyone else.â Her words were soft, almost as if she was afraid of saying them out loud, afraid of the weight they carried.
Hearing her broke something in you. You had been so consumed by your own pain, your own confusion, that you hadnât stopped to see hers. In that moment, you realized it wasnât just you who had been hurting. She had been carrying her own burden of fear and self-doubt, silently tearing herself apart. And now, her vulnerability was laid bare, raw and trembling in front of you.
âYou deserve someone better than me, Y/N,â Hyun-ju whispered, her voice trembling. âYou canât be in a relationship with someone like meââ
Before she could finish, you reached out, gently taking her soft, larger hand in yours. âStop,â you said firmly, your voice steady but full of emotion. âI donât care, Hyun-ju. I donât care about any of that.â
Your thumb gently traced small circles over her hand, grounding both of you in the moment. âI love you for who you are. Every part of you. To me, youâre perfectâthe most beautiful woman in the world. And honestly, it amazes me every single day that you chose someone like me to be with you.â
A tear slipped down your cheek as you gave her a soft, heartfelt smile. It wasnât just your words that spokeâit was the way you looked at her, as if she was the only person in the world who mattered.Â
Hyun-ju let out a choked sob, gripping your hand tightly as if you might disappear. âI just⌠I thought that one day youâd wake up and realize you deserve someone better. ThatâThat youâd see Iâm not enough for you because Iâm not perfect.â Her voice cracked as tears spilled freely down her cheeks. âThis body⌠this body that Iâve fought so hard for, itâs still not enough. People look at me and see a lie, a joke. I thought maybe one day youâd see me the same way, and it would break me, Y/N. It would destroy me.â
Her words came in waves, each one laced with years of pain and fear. âYou deserve someone who doesnât have to fight to exist. Someone who doesnât carry the kind of baggage I do. Iâve seen the way people stare at us when weâre together. The way they judge you just for loving me. And I thought⌠maybe youâd get tired of it. Of me. Of always having to defend me, to fight for me. I thought youâd leave, and I didnât think Iâd survive it.â
Her voice grew softer, trembling as she continued. âYou have no idea what itâs like⌠to constantly wonder if the people who love you will stop when they finally see you for who you really are.â
The raw vulnerability in her words cut through you like a knife. God, it pained you to see her like this. Without hesitation, you rose from your seat and moved to her side. Kneeling down, you gently placed your fingers under her chin, lifting her face so she could meet your gaze.
âOh, love,â you murmured, your voice soft yet steady. âI will never, ever leave you. Not now, not ever. Do you hear me?â You brushed away the tears streaming down her face, your touch gentle and reassuring. âYou are enough, Hyun-ju. Youâre more than enough. Youâre the bravest woman I know. Youâve fought battles most people couldnât even imagine, and youâve come out stronger every time.â
You gave her a soft smile, hoping it could reach the cracks in her heart. âYouâre my Hyun-ju. The one who fills my life with warmth and love. The one who makes those incredible meals so I donât have to spend a dime eating out. And the one who makes me laugh when I donât even think I can smile.â
Your thumb stroked her cheek as you looked into her tear-filled eyes. âI donât care what the world thinks, or what anyone says. I see you, Hyun-ju. I love you. Every single part of you. And nothing, nothing will ever change that.â
In that moment, you werenât just offering her wordsâyou were offering her a piece of your soul, a promise that no matter what storms came your way, you would face them together.
âI love you, Hyun-ju. All of you. Your body, your personalityâeverything. I love you,â you whispered, your voice steady and filled with sincerity.
You leaned in slowly, giving her a moment to meet you halfway. As your lips met hers, the kiss was tender, a gentle melding of emotions rather than just a physical gesture. It was soft but full of meaning, as if you were pouring all the love, reassurance, and devotion you felt into that single moment.
Her lips trembled against yours, and you could feel the faint taste of salt from her tears, but neither of you pulled away. Instead, you cupped her face with both hands, your thumbs brushing away the wet trails on her cheeks. She responded hesitantly at first, as though afraid to believe this was real, but then her hands found their way to your arms, holding onto you as though grounding herself in your presence.
When you finally pulled back, your foreheads pressed together, her breath mingling with yours. âYouâre my everything, Hyun-ju,â you said softly, gazing into her tearful eyes. âAlways.â
âI love you too.â
You smiled softly, leaning in to press a gentle kiss to her cheek. âHow about I buy you that favorite dessert of yours?â you offered, your voice light and filled with affection.
Taking her hand in yours, you gave it a reassuring squeeze before flashing her a smileâone of those rare, genuine smiles that you saved just for her. It was the kind of smile that spoke volumes, one that told her she was cherished, loved, and safe with you.
As you walked out of the cafĂŠ, your gaze lingered on Hyun-ju, unable to help but admire her once more. You silently thanked the gods for blessing you with such a wonderful partner, vowing to do anything for her.

mesmerized . hyun-ju

" Will it be a pavement or a sidewalk When I finally lay my eyes on you? Someone I've already loved will you find your way out of the blue? " - bruno major
cho hyun-ju x gn reader . fluff
You were sitting alone, mindlessly staring at everyone as they chatted or team up forming a pact. You could see how everyone was glaring at each other; the tension was so thick it felt suffocating. You would try and talk to others, get to know them and benefit from them in order to survive. However, you didnât seem to show the slightest bit of interest or care. Itâs always best to keep yourself close. Then, suddenly, you noticed someone.
Someone so⌠beautiful.
She was talking to one of the female players. Squinting your eyes, you tried to make out the number on her uniform: Player 120. Your world felt like it stopped spinning the more you looked at her. Her beauty was captivatingâthe way her shoulder-length bob haircut framed her face perfectly, with her blunt bangs adding a charming touch. Her slightly wide, almond-shaped eyes made you feel as though if she looked at you, youâd be trapped inside them. The way those eyes seemed to hold a world of wonder, a world you wanted to explore with her, left you breathless.
Your gaze slowly trailed down to her lipsâso perfect. Her Cupidâs bow shape made them look kissable, so soft, like a pillow you could rest on after a long, tiring day. A wave of inexplicable feelings surrounded you as you continued to admire her. Then, you noticed how she gave the other player a soft smile. That smile was warm as a fire keeping you safe on a stormy winter night. You wished you were in that playerâs position. Oh, how you longed to go up and talk to her, to lose yourself in her presence.
You felt ridiculous. Shaking your head, you pushed those feelings away and returned to your senses. Confusion washed over you. Why had you been staring at Player 120 for so long? Something about her made you feel something entirely new. Sure, it might have been odd to admire someone from afar, especially someone who has no idea you exist in this world.
But for some reason, she had managed to capture your attentionâŚ
And you couldnât help but feel mesmerized.
