Civanticism is a contemporary creed and code of conduct. It is a philosophy founded on compassion and reason. It is a practice that seeks equanimity and equilibrium, and a discipline forged in diligence and truth. It is a blend of pragmatic wisdom from East and West, ancient and modern, scientific and spiritual, all balanced in a holistic doctrine that gives the practitioner purpose, values, and a coherent canon by which to flourish in a changing world of challenges for which antiquated dogmas are ill-equipped to cope.   Find us at civanticism.com

I wish everyone happiness. Except for those who derive their happiness from making others unhappy. I do not wish them happiness.

For most people, the hardest beliefs, opinions, and values to change are the ones they have right now. Most of us identify with them, so we consider criticism of them to be criticism of us, and it generally takes a really big shock to get us really question them. Change is hard.

Freedom is the right to be who you are, so long as it is peaceful and respectful of others who are different. You cannot insist that everyone else be like who you are, nor that only people like you are worthy of freedom. True freedom cannot exist without diversity. Freedom cannot be parceled out by merit or any arbitrary criteria. A dammed river is only a shadow of itself, giving much water to some and much less to others.

We are all brainwashed to some degree, it's just that for many, the brains were thrown out with the bathwater.

For many people, hating a stranger is like falling off a log, but loving a stranger is like climbing a tree.

It is emotionally easier to continue to be wrong than to admit we were duped, which is why poor opinions stubbornly persist. Emotional ease is the most seductive sloth of all.
