The proposed Inland Port will pollute the delicate ecosystem of the Great Salt Lake, risking the wildlife that depend on the lake, including over 10 million migratory birds from over 300 species. As the climate crisis progresses inland salt bodies of water are drying up, leaving the Great Salt Lake as one of the last refuges for many migratory birds, including the Great Blue Heron. The port will pollute the Salt Lake Valley’s already toxic air, and the “economic benefits” will only benefit wealthy investors, not the working people of the Salt Lake Valley. Fight against the powers that are pushing for increased pollution, a lower quality of life, and taking away tax dollars from the people of Salt Lake to fund the port. Speak out against the port and get involved. Go to: STOPTHEPOLLUTINGPORT.ORG

From Extinction Rebellion Salt Lake: KSL blacked it out, but we disrupted the Pioneer Day Parade! We don't think that colonization should be celebrated, and we wanted to draw the links between colonization, migrant justice, and climate collapse.
On the subject of "illegal" immigration, Carl Moore told us, "It is a perfect example of arrogance when a group whose ancestors came from across the ocean tell my relatives whose ancestors have been on this continent for time immemorial were they can or cannot go. President Trump and the United States has absolutely no moral right to dictate borders without the consent of the indigenous people of this whole continent.”
And XR Salt Lake members created a banner showing the connections between genocide and ecocide--the land use changes and extractive industries that are causing climate breakdown and mass extinction have required the removal (via murder or displacement) and subjugation of indigenous and local communities who would safeguard the health of the lands and waters they live on. It's this violence against people and ecosystems that fuels the over-consumption of wealthy populations on this planet.
