What’s in a name: Arthur Kirkland
(Welcome to the series where I attempt to incorporate my linguistic knowledge into hetalia)
From a historical point of view, both of England’s human names are fascinating. Neither of them are purely English in a sense and I’ll try to explain why I think so.
Starting with Arthur, I think we can agree that what most readily comes to mind is the legend of King Arthur. King Arthur’s existence however is dubious at best - the only real-life traces we can find of him are in figures that probably served as a basis for inspiration. And that is perfectly normal considering early medieval literary sources. They had to rely on poor documentation and their aim wasn’t always strictly historical accuracy.
