hello! i hope everyone’s having a good day.
i was approached by a very nice and understanding mun today about ricky’s significance in this film, and what his role was representing ie. the ( bad ) way people of asian descent have been treated in hollywood / the whitewashing of them as well. they were kind enough to explain why i shouldn’t be writing him, and after hearing that explanation, i 100% understand and have agreed not to write jupe, as i have no way of deeply understanding the struggles that were explained to me. this blog will stay up, just so people can read this specific post, but i won’t be active / writing here.
thank you!
#and thank you again to the mun who approached me so kindly#it really is appreciated the despite the fact that you shouldn't have to explain anything to me!#feel free to follow me at any of my other blogs#out.

gordyhome , amber park.
gentle hands reach over to smooth ricky’s collar. amber takes a big breath in and a slow exhale. she hand feel the hard thudding of his heart in his chest. “ when the water’s moving faster than the boat, you can’t control a thing. ” she said quietly. “ we just got to take this one day at a time all right ? slow down a little. ”
wise words, like always. some husbands hated how right their wives were all the time. ricky found it both helpful and endearing. not to mention, amber was the only one who could calm him down in moments like these. as little as he allowed others to see his pain and panic, she could pick it out, whether jupe wanted her to or not. ‘ you’re right, i’m sorry, ’ hand lands over hers. it’s a touch intended to steady himself as he looks at amber with a smile. ‘ i’m okay. just doing to much, ’ ricky sighs. ‘ thanks for always slowing me down, ’

vicemirror , dr. henry jekyll.
the doctor raised a dubious eyebrow. admittedly, the sweltering heat — and his general distaste for amusement parks — might well be contributing to his opinion of the place, but something about it all felt sketchy at best. “ … right. so, this family show of yours next week — it’s what, exactly? ”
he’s rehearsed the answer to the question more times than could be counted on one hand. jupe seems to shift into that announcer role, the almost bewitching, entertainer stance as he begins to talk about the new attraction. ‘ well, it’s called the star lasso experience! it’s a show like no one’s ever seen before, ’ keep it vague, keep it interesting. starry eyed, hands waving in front of him as if he’s painting a picture, ricky glances at the other with a grin. ‘ can’t say much else since we wanna keep the whole thing a surprise, but trust me - it’s gonna be big. and safe. so don’t worry about it. here, ’ he hands the man a green flyer ; an invite to the show. ‘ promise you won’t regret it, ’

deadbride , mary jo elliott.
it appears that both of them have made a home of the past; while mary jo hasn’t seen kid sheriff in twenty-some years, it’s obvious the influence it’s had on ricky’s choice of theme park — the name itself is telling: jupiter’s claim. mary jo has little room to talk, however. she’s wearing the face of a girl that has not existed for years, but it’s all she has. acting may have been her mother’s choice for her daughter’s life, but mary jo is unprepared for anything else. gordy’s assault only cemented this.
the veil masks a wide grin in response to ricky’s welcome. she’s missed him; perhaps in the same way that mary jo’s missed an entire life she once dreaded, but she’d like to think it’s a lot more amicable than that. she chooses to sign her response; it’s an infinitely easier form of communication for mary jo since the infamous attack.
<< grown up kid sheriff. >> she teases fondly, << i was surprised to hear from you. >>
the chuckle that leaves him then is genuine, something from the gut. it’s astonishing, the way a person could be transported back in time, just by looking at someone. it seems like a hundred years ago, just as much as it feels like it was all just yesterday. they’ve both changed, and they both haven’t. watching mary jo’s hands move to communicate, ricky can’t help the slight tightening of his heart. < sorry it’s been so long. > is jupe’s quiet reply, using the sign he had learned when he was only a kid, when he thought gordy was his friend. leaning on the surface of his desk, jupe gave a nearly fond sigh. ‘ totally my fault. we should have caught up ages ago, ’ they both know that wouldn’t have happened, but it was a nice thought. ‘ but we’re here now! i’d love to catch up before the show. you hungry? we got great barbecue here. my treat, ’

6billion , cho sang-woo.
RICKY DIDN’T ASK. that sort of open trust makes me wonder where it comes from. not that i don’t appreciate the polite hospitality, i do, but as ricky hands me the beer —————— there is a level of suspicion that i’m trying to shake. i’ve been here for two weeks, hardly any time, yes, but it’s as if i’m almost too welcome. it’s bizarre, but i am the one who needed a place to stay. ricky is giving me that. i should be thankful. as difficult as it is to be the third wheel to their domestic fucking bliss, i keep my head down. isn’t that a useful skill? and now? the drink, the way we sit on the steps? it’s too familiar, even if we’ve known each other for decades. ❛❛ thank you. ❜❜
the bottle is cold, but i don’t take a sip just yet. the sweat is letting loose the adhesive on the label, and my thumb is working it off gently, slowly. i’m thinking, i’m always thinking, and as i settle my gaze on ricky, i can’t help it: ❛❛ why haven’t you asked? ❜❜ it’s honest, and while it comes out a little sharper than i intended, it remains the same. i clear my throat, and i realize that it’s unfair to snap at the man that’s taken me in. i try again: ❛❛ i would have the instant you stepped through the door. i suppose that’s the difference between us. ❜❜ out of several, more than i can count. ignoring the question about walking around … yes, i did. who cares? i didn’t want to be stuck there, making awkward conversation. offering to clean, offering to cook. they are too nice to let me do so. it’s unnerving. finally, a sip of beer. i’m nervous, brow twitching under frames. ❛❛ you can ask. ❜❜
you can ask. but does he want to? part of jupe does, he supposed. the part of him that was nosey, and curious. what could cho sang-woo, snu graduate, momma’s boy, top class business man, possibly be running from? ricky, of course, had his suspicions. the law could get a man on many a charge, and if it had anything to do with money... jupe glanced at sang-woo from the corner of his eye before taking a long pull from his bottle, stare grazing across the starry sky, allowing a moment of quiet between the two. when he finally had no excuse to keep from replying, jupe cleared his own throat, giving a thoughtful shrug as his first response.
‘ it doesn’t matter, that’s why, ’ it might matter in the grand scheme of things, but to ricky, right now, it doesn’t. not really. if sang-woo ended up being a fugitive... well, it’d be unfortunate, that much was true, but even if jupe knew from the start, he still would have let his old friend stay with him. jupe had made sure amber didn’t pry to deeply, that she nor the kids would get in trouble, should this home visit turn into something worse, but ricky intended to let sang-woo stay as long as he needed. ‘ listen, i don’t... whatever’s happening, whatever it is you’re running from... i’m here to help, ’ jupe finally looks back at sang-woo, his grin small but assuring. ‘ we’ve never been that much alike. honestly, i think that’s why we’ve stayed friends for so long, ’ a chuckle to cut the tension before a pause. ‘ are you in danger? like - is someone trying to kill you? ’ brows raise. ‘ that’s all i need to know. in case i’m putting my family in danger, here, ’ if it was anything else, jupe could deal with that.

the injured child sits between cracked ribs. not dead. wounded, yes. angry, yes. i am that angry and lonely child of always.
#GUTTERSNIPER: an exploration of rage, grief, a heart too large for a small ribcage, a clever mind, fighting tooth and nail, and the mouse catching the cat; as seen through the eyes of a child soldier named mutt, an original character adaptable to many verses, written by laney.

desafia , magnolia castillo.
there are no words for this. there is no precedent—not for the specific disasters which have unfolded around them. but, if she does know one thing, it is how immeasurable pain and loss feels. and furthermore, what it is like to carry such a heavy burden of grief and trauma all alone. forgotten and forsaken…she refuses to allow him to endure this in solitude. that kind of damage is next to impossible to mend ( she is breathing proof of that ). magnolia carries nothing but compassion and gentleness as she settles in front of him, perched on the edge of her coffee table before the couch where he rests. concern covers her features as she observes jupe. she doubts she can get him to eat anything. at the very least, he should stay hydrated. ❛ i can make you some tea, if you would like that better, ❜ she offers ❛ i have some blends that could help you feel a little more calm. ❜ even as she signs it, she has a suspicion he will not accept. but she wonders if she makes it, he might be more inclined to drink out of nothing but politeness. hesitantly, she reaches out her hand and lightly places it on one of his forearms.
he has to stop himself from snapping at her. stop being so nice to me! treat me like the burden that i am! the monster that i am! jupe had known for some time now how kind magnolia is. watching her interact with the now digested horses had proven as much. the opposite of him, who remained selfish and fame hungry through his entire adult life, always striving for that taste of stardom from his childhood. he could have been someone. now all he is is a murderer by proximity. all of ricky’s decisions led to the moment his family and friends were eaten, and there was nothing he could do to stop it. of course, he doesn’t snap at her. he can barely look at her. ‘ you don’t have to do that, ’ she shouldn’t have to. wrapping the blanket closer to him, jupe counts his breathing. in and out, one. in and out, two. he stares at the water cup and knows he should drink it, but he can’t remember how to move properly. ‘ wouldn’t want you going through the trouble, ’

knowsvalue , peggy carter.
𝐋𝐄𝐆 𝐂𝐑𝐎𝐒𝐒𝐄𝐃 𝐎𝐕𝐄𝐑 𝐇𝐄𝐑 𝐊𝐍𝐄𝐄, a folder and pad of paper resting against her thigh . typically, she doesn’t do house visits, prefers to handle business her own office . but decided to go out on a limb for him . it seemed easier for both of them for her to join him here . “ by law, when they purchase a ticket to enter, they are taking on all known risks. it’s in the fine print. ” she opens the folder on her lap, reading over something before shutting it again . “ so there is a chance we wouldn’t have to get them to sign a waiver at all . however - that depends on what kind of attraction you want to add.” eye meet his . “ is this the could possibly kill you kind of attraction or slightly maim kind of attraction ?”
‘ oh, uh, neither! i mean - it’s nothing super dangerous, ’ theoretically. from what he’s seen, anyway. the viewers have, so far, only been interested in the horses that ricky has been feeding them. not him or his wife. so an audience full of people didn’t really have anything to worry about. how could he explain exactly what he had mind, though, to his lawyer, who wouldn’t believe the truth? and truth that jupe didn’t really want her to know, lest she think he’s crazy? man ponders for a moment, contemplating his answer very carefully. ‘ it’s just - it involves... animals. and if anyone knows how dangerous animals can be, it’s me, ’ the laugh is a shallow one, jupe glancing at the gordy’s home poster opposite his desk before giving his eyes back to peggy. ‘ my wife and i just wanna cover all our bases, you know? but if it’s in the fine print - ’ ricky gave a shrug. ‘ maybe we don’t have to worry about it... what do you think? ’ jupe gives a small smile. ‘ you’re the expert and all, ’

@haywoodshorses , continued.
normally, jupe wouldn’t let others see this side of him. the anxious, crumbling side. the traumatized one. he was good at hiding it away, covering it up with busy work and grand gestures and smoke and mirrors. not today. poor oj had caught him at the most inopportune time - the day was a long and tiring one. all of the kids running around, the adults unable to wrangle them. his own kids were needy, and as much as jupe wanted to be there for them, he could only do so many things at once. and where had that boy gotten that balloon? the plastic gave a number to a car dealership, seen just before the thing had exploded. it may have sounded like a normal pop to everyone else, but to jupe, it was a grenade. everyone down! at least he’d managed to stow himself away before the shallow breaths and sweat had begun, but not far enough for him to hide from oj.
‘ not often, just - sometimes. only sometimes, ’ he is breathing. or he’s trying to. it’s hard when your lungs felt as if they were collapsing in on themselves. ricky, shocked that he could even speak right now ( oj had missed the worst of it, jupe supposed ), gave the other man a shaky smile, raising his hand to let oj know that he didn’t have to worry about it. ‘ i’m good, ’ is he? deep breath is taken before he turns to look at the other. ‘ like i said, comes and goes. and now it’s gone. no sweat, ’ it’s almost admirable, how quickly jupe snaps back into that charismatic, enthusiastic facade of his. ‘ i’m good, ’ he reiterates, either to oj, or himself, it’s hard to tell. ‘ thanks for coming around, though! what brings you here, oj? ’

💭 + relationship with his kids
send 💭 + a topic for a headcanon about jupe.
he has an overall amazing relationship with his kids. growing up with two parents that loved him, he wanted to be as good of a father as his was. however, there are times where he’s not present. they’re rare, but jupe’s depression can get the better of him. during these times he turns into a bit of a workaholic, and it’s hard to get him out of his office. most days, though, he’s happy to spend time with his sons in any way they want. ricky has done his best to raise them as kind and open, though they do seem to get into a lot of mischief. him and amber have three sons because they kept trying for just one girl lmao. obviously that never happened, but jupe loves his kids more than anything in the world.

💭 irritation
send 💭 + a topic for a headcanon about jupe.
ricky isn’t an irritable man. a little anxious, yes. but he doesn’t get upset / angry that often. i do believe he takes a step back to cool down before he would portray any sort of aggravation. he’s most irritable, i’d say, when he’s having flashbacks / about to have them / right after having them, also around panic attacks, or when he’s just having a bad brain day. he tries not to take that out on others, though. he does a pretty good job. the few times he’s snapped at his wife he’s apologized immediately and they worked it out together.
