like I think it is good and important to be able to criticise porn and erotica for the relationship to the political environment/context of creation etc, but I think that’s not too different from criticising any other art on these grounds. how is the erotica speaking to conventions of the genre? what is the author trying to tell you in what they hold up as attractive? what might the author be saying that they’re not necessarily aware that they’re saying? how does the narrative relate to other dominant cultural narratives? these are all valuable questions to ask and can be answered in nuanced ways that do not involve kink-shaming & do not involve calling people degenerate perverts. yknow.

being an aro who loves romance but also doesn't understand it and also writes fanfiction will have you in a crisis about the damn tags every single time
#me except i don't care#if you get mad at seeing work centering your fav relationship because it wasn't the specific flavor you like that's on you#romance means nothing and people write the same pair in a billion different ways even when it's all meant to be romantic#it would make more sense to separate the ship content based on genre than on the romantic/platonic scale#when i wrote the mike trio fic i was like yeah this isn't meant as romantic but is meant as life partners#it's meant as them being the most important in each other's lives#why would i avoid the tag that deals with that kind of intensity#tumblr culture doesn't even make platonic tags#i'm not gonna miss the chance to be seen by a whole public that i know is interested in this because of a technicality
