first time i saw this "even when the clock ran back" dialogue i had immediate time loop vibes, but looking now, they might be just referring to their perception of these Dark Worlds, where the darkners of the First Sanctuary were ancestors of the Second and vice versa, so they experienced the opening of the new world as the past coming back to life, but from the light's perspective, it was a sequence of Dark Fountains opening, hence, the darkness was growing.
This idea of mutual ancestors still feels important though. These philosophers are a parallel of the current generation of adults in Hometown. They worship their ancestors (actually from another side of their world) and the prophecy and put their own era as inferior, just like Hometown's church worships the prophecy, and Alvin worships Gerson's work while having no faith on his own, The next generation did not pick up the pen to write a new story, according to Gerson at least. And now among their kids is someone who has inherited Gerson's hammer and teachings, because Gerson came back to life in the Dark World for a moment. Not sure where I'm going with this, but I'm looking forward for more of this generational conflict.
#don't have much to add but that's a lot of interesting observations#snakes do feel like a motif at this point#and many have pointed out that it just ties to other religious/biblical motifs in the game like angels and heaven and hell#unsure if that means jockington himself will be important#or if his jokey appearance is being used here to only loosely hint at something important while keeping the mystery#the classmates haven't been that relevant so far#but chapter 5 should be the festival in town so that's their chance if they wanna do something for the plot#also. i guess the growth of a beard is another hint at time issues? it does imply the concept of time passing after all#deltarune#deltarune spoilers#deltarune chapter 4

going through posts from 2018 for the nostalgia and damn, saying Kris' save file was at "nowhere" hits pretty different right now
The narration implies Kris has seen and used save points before, but their save is at 0:00 and nowhere, so I guess independently of what someone has done with saves at a previous time, now the point of reference is this adventure so time is at zero since the day started. Or maybe I just overthinking these mechanics too much.
Still, we didn’t see a single save point in the surface, so where has Kris used these before? Have they been in the Dark World before? Since they never talk or express much, it’s hard to tell if they recognized something in the situation or not.
#not a coherent thought the wording just slapped me in the face here#deltarune#kris dreemurr#deltarune spoilers#kinda#also god these old posts are so funny#we were like 'hot theory besties i think this door in the dark world... was that door from the light world!'#like yes this is exactly how the game works darling#also i was apparently a lot more suspicious of gaster... while still thrilled enough to have made sock gaster since 2015???#i thought he was from 2018!! i thought i made him because of deltarune!!#i can't believe the guy was already dirty and forgotten by the time we got to this...#i forgot his lore besties... i forgot the forgotten man...#no one is as immersed in the gaster hunt like i am...#and yeah that's the one part that makes this old posts funny. the way every don't forget reference was about gaster to us...#we didn't even dream of dess... we didn't know noelle...#what a time

Thinking about it, I wonder if the nature of the Forgotten Man makes it so Kris doesn't really take in their trips to the Egg Rooms. From their perspective they're just being made to do some arbitrary nonsense and then they find themselves with an additional egg.
There's a funny dynamic going on here. Kris is the one who actually gets to see the Forgotten Man, but they can't retain any memory of him. Our degree of separation from this world lets us remember him, but we can't see him.
#and he might be aware of it#as he knows 'deltarune will be waiting' even if it takes years#and so far this has been a very fourth wall leaning line#deltarune#deltarune chapter 3#deltarune spoilers#gaster

The Deltarune text dump now has all the text from chapters 1-4. That includes unused text, the Japanese translation, and copious spoilers.
(Warning: the page is pretty big. It might lag your browser.)
Happy ctrl+F-ing!
#i basically live there now#deltarune#deltarune chapter 4#deltarune spoilers#btw has anyone seem all the character descriptions for chapter 4 or am i right in thinking there's a couple of unused ones there#probably because the unchangeable 'dark hero' ones were really important to the mood

okay i kept wondering about this since in my last playthrough i got two of his extra dialogue lines before it stopped, and finally someone has found an explanation:
youtube
so Gerson basically has a hidden mercy bar that gets filled by non-defending actions, so the battle ends earlier if you do those, skipping the extra dialogue. By the percentages given here, I think you can heal once or twice and still get most of the dialogue, which fill up to 78% mercy, but the final ones only happen if you haven't healed, as a single heal will have given him +9% mercy and trigger the end of the battle.
also, i didn't know because i never attack, but attacking here gives 24 TP as opposed to the usual 16 of defending, meaning attacking is the best strategy, as Susie implies through her dialogue, especially if you interweave heals as you go, since healing gives the most mercy but needs a lot of TP first.
And Gerson seems to do damage based on a percentage of your HP, as seem here with the cheated HP amount, meaning defending might be completely useless? I'd need more confirmation, it could be lowering the percentage of damage, but that probably stops mattering much at low HP, plus you're still failing to progress the fight quick and might take more damage, especially as the extra dialogue attacks are the hardest ones.
And yet, Gerson doesn't punish you for that. By tying the defend route into more of the hero/good person dialogue, it kinda feels like Gerson's acknowledging your good intentions. You're defending because you don't want to attack. You're trying to do the right thing, even if you don't know what it is. Even if it wasn't the optimal strat for this one. He doesn't try to change your mind. And in the end you win anyway, even if it takes more effort.
This battle is utterly genius.
the gerson dialog is actually for if you keep defending, not for a no healing run
i beat him by defending and healing only and didn't get it, so my understanding is that you gotta only use the defend command, meaning you can't use any magic.
i didn't do it myself (yet?) though, so apologies if i'm getting something wrong.

Once the friend of a friend of my mom's was visiting Rio and she saw Sugarloaf Mountain and she wanted to impress her taxi driver with her knowledge of Portuguese, so she said in Portuguese "Look, Sugarloaf [Mountain]! It's very big!".
Unfortunately, English native speakers have a hard time making the "ão" sound correctly since the sound doesn't exist in English, so instead of saying "pão de açúcar" (literally, bread of sugar), she said "pau de açúcar." Now, "pau" technically just means "wood," but it's also, unfortunately for her, slang for "penis."
So to the driver what he heard was "Look at the sugar dick! it's so big!" and he almost crashed the car from laughing so hard.
#mispronouncing pão is like. a rite of passage for portuguese learners#everyone does it and it hardly gets old

Little Cup Polls: Week #25 (Fakemon)
Submitted by @formlesschromatic
We've had questions about all kinds of Pokémon, and ways of interacting with the series, but have you ever thought about designing your own Pocket Monster?
There are a few steps when it comes to creating a Pokémon, creating a design and concept, picking out stats, a type, and ability, finalising a name and perhaps an evolutionary line- maybe even putting it in a fan game? So pick the option which you feel best represents how deep in the process of creating a Fakemon you've gotten- the options may overlap, so feel free to elaborate in the tags, or even include a picture that we can share!
(Submit your own Little Cup Poll! Guidelines are in the pinned post!)
#my main thing was thinking up mega evolutions#but i made diameon all those years ago and i still like the design#even if the sprite itself was very derivative#and i also had a reinterpretation of hanamogura as a ground/fairy type with pre-evo and evo#never got around to finishing it tho#pokemon
