Need to rant and this is the only place she cannot find me🫣

So me and my older sister were arguing earlier today. To preface, with much effort on my part, she finally watched Cobra Kai. Most of all, she said it was cringe and like, you cannot lie; it’s a karate soap opera. Some parts are going to be cringe.

But the argument wasn’t even about that. It was about Devon Lee. I told her I was changing my fav character to her because she’s one of the few unproblematic characters and she said she was bland asf. Didn’t think anything of it, Devon’s only got a season and like a half under her belt, she needs more time to get interesting. But what really got to me, was she said she was “pointless” and she was there to intimidate Tory. She said that she had something against her and that she was trying to “out champion” her or something along those lines. And let me just say this, I ain’t posting this to start more drama between us. (In case she sees this lol) it’s more of a matter of how we “read” her as a person and me just wanting to explain how I read it fully between the two.

First, women can exist in media without “beefing” or hating other women. It is possible. I really wish Cobra Kai and other shows/films. It happens, not every woman hates other women. Second, in no way has Devon ever tried to “out champion” Tory specifically. Since the first time we see Devon, we know she is an overachiever. She wants to be the best simply because she likes it. In s5, we get a deeper look into her feelings on that and see it’s stemmed from losing her mom. I wouldn’t say she wanted to be better than Tory, specifically. She just wanted to better, that is her whole persona. And Terry Silver and his new sensei absolutely pushed the “you become Queen cobra over Tory” motto onto her. Even at the last episode, before the footage revealing Terry was revealed, she chose to “do stuff her own way”.

Another thing she said was that she didn’t like her because she beat her multiple times and I guess you could say she was right in a way. Devon was angry that the ref gave Tory a point when she was out of bounds. That seemed to be the only thing she carried over into season 5. And that’s a rightful response. She was allowed to be angry, but what needs to be noted is that, she was still not mad at Tory directly.

Devon came long after the rivalry between the core four characters started. She has no reason to hate either side, technically. She was not pointless. She balanced out everyone’s female/male champion at the All Valley. As for when she switched to Cobra Kai. That can be explained by her overachieving abilities as well. She didn’t know either side that well, so naturally she was going to choose the “winner” dojo.

All in all, I’m high and like to rant. And you’re probably asking, why have you held onto it this long? Get over it. No. I over obsess over every little situation and overthink everything. Goodnight🤌🏻

I think it was a really good plot line to have Lizzie remember Hope first after she returned from Malivore in season 2, because if you look back at season 1 episode 10, the monster of the episode took Lizzie to three different worlds without Hope Mikaelson and I think it shows how full circle Lizzie had came😍
