Classic Gay Movie: TRICK (1999)

Trick was a movie that had a simple story. But yet so compelling. It appeared in 1999.

The premise gay wannabe musical writer goes to a gogo bar and sees a beautiful gogo boy Mark in next to nothing dancing sensually on a bar. Gabriel leaves the bar but runs into Mark on the subway.

Mark propositioned Gabriel for sex and the two hurry to Gabriel to do the deed. A one night stand that goes incredibly wrong but allows to gay men to get to know one another.

Arriving at Gabriel's apartment to get it on before his straight roommate gets home. The two horny men are thwarted by Gabriel's friend Katherine. Katherine is using Gabriel's computer and printer to print off 150 resumes.

Finally she leaves but it takes a while. The two boys prepare to get it on but false starts and a barking dog named Trixie interrupt until Gabriel's roommate comes home, himself with a lady in tow ready to also get busy.

A coin toss between roommates leaves the boys out on the stoop.

The hookup never happens but the two do get very close. A kiss happens before they separate with hopes of more (another time)

This film was suppose to get a sequel. It never happened.

Yes, Glee is a Classic Television Show. Beautiful Talented People singing hit songs from different decades. Pop, R&B and Hip Hop among others.

Glee had it's issue behind the scenes but it was a very entertaining show.

Here Quinn (DIANNA AGRON) uses her friends and fellow cheerleaders Santana (the late NAYA RIVERA) and Brittany (HEATHER MORRIS) to audition for the Glee Club in an effort to keep Rachel and Quinn's boyfriend Finn apart.

The girls put together a routine using the classic Aretha Franklin song I Say A Little Prayer For You with Brittany and Santana singing background vocals for Quinn in front of Glee teacher Will Schuester (MATTHEW MORRISON)

Dreamgirls (2006)

With a spotlight on: JENNIFER HUDSON

Cast includes: Beyoncé Knowles-Carter, Anika Noni Rose and Jamie Foxx as Curtis Taylor Jr.

DREAMGIRLS BEGINNINGS: At the start Dreamgirls was a project set for plus sized actress Nell Carter. Tom Eyen (Playwright) and Henry Kreiger (Conductor) worked with Carter on a 1975 musical (The Dirtiest Show In Town) and her performance inspired a play about black singers. Originally called One Night Only then Project # 9

Nell was joined by Sheryl Lee Ralph and Loretta Devine. However Carter left Project # 9 for a role on soap opera Ryan's Hope in 1978. So the project was on indefinite hold.

A year later Michael Bennett became interested in reviving Project #9

Sheryl Lee Ralph and Loretta Devine returned for workshops for Big Dreams (Project #9 new title) and several other members were cast including Nell Carter's replacement Jennifer Holliday, a gospel singer. Carter declined to return as she was starting new series for TV (Gimme A Break)

Big Dreams workshop was dealt another devastating blow when Holliday left after disliking the material because her character of Effie Melody White was set to die after Act 1. So a recast was needed. Jennifer Lewis stepped in as Effie with mild success in workshops.

Jennifer Holliday returned to what was now known as Dreamgirls. But left again when she learned her role was now second fiddle to Sheryl Lee Ralph's Deena Jones.

After getting financing Michael Bennett convinced Holliday back agreeing to rewrite the second act and building up her character.

So To All The Actresses That Played Effie after Jennifer Holliday Owe the role to Jennifer Holliday. She fought for that character and the musical and subsequent movie were better for it so hats off to Jennifer Holliday.

Back to 2006 Effie Melody White in the film adaptation. Miss Jennifer Hudson. She shined in her first movie role even winning the beginning of her EGOT with the O (as in Academy Awards or Oscar)

The scene (giffed by me) above has an angry Effie walking off as her "boyfriend" Curtis Taylor Jr. begins favoring group mate Deena and sleeping with her. Effie was later fired from the group and replaced by a secretary Michelle Morris.

Diane Gorman wants Frenchie Fontaine gone. And in an attempt to make that happen she opens Pandora's Box. Slapping the no nonsense Frenchie leads to quite a fight. Yes, Frenchie is no nonsense but Diane Gorman isn't backing down.

Paying Homage To A Terrific Recast (Soap Opera: THE BOLD AND THE BEAUTIFUL)

Kim Matula is a gifted and beautiful actress and she should have a long career ahead of her. But from January 11, 2010 to December 12, 2014 she created the role of teen Hope Logan. The daughter of Legacy Character Brooke Logan and Brooke's taboo lover Deacon Sharpe (who was married to Brooke's daughter Bridget Forrester)

Matula returned to the role of Hope Logan for 2 episodes. 1 in 2015 and 1 in 2016. She never again played the role.

THE ROLE OF HOPE LOGAN WILL NOW BE PLAYED BY ANNIKA NOELLE

Recasting a role in any situation is risky. Will the audience accept this new actress. In some cases the viewers prefer the recast to the original or they appreciate both actresses for bringing different interpretations to a role.

Annika Noelle was cast as the new Hope Logan in 2018 replacing Kim Matula almost 4 years later. She quickly made the role her own.

Many may say Kim who? I will never discount all Matula brought to the role of Hope but I appreciated Annika stepping in so eloquently.

Not on board with the direction the soap took I (a die-hard soap fan...once) stopped watching the day Head Writer/Executive Producer BRAD BELL began a baby switch storyline I could not stomach. But I will always miss some of my faves including KATHERINE KELLY LANG, JOHN MCCOOK, HUNTER TYLO and RENA SOFER among others.

CHARMED: SEASON 3 FINALE

Title: ALL HELL BREAKS LOOSE

Prue (SHANNEN DOHERTY) and Piper (HOLLY MARIE COMBS) are both killed after The Source resets time by The Source's assassin Shax (MICHAEL BAILEY SMITH) meanwhile Phoebe agreed to stay in the underworld in order to save Piper.

When Season 4 premiered Shannen had been fired and Rose McGowan hired to replace her. Rose took on the role of long lost sister Paige Matthews.

And Prue and Dr Griffiths were killed but Leo was somehow able to heal Piper. So the CHARMED ONES were reconstituted with PIPER, PHOEBE & PAIGE.

Shannen and Prue never appeared on CHARMED again. A true lost.

I respect Paige and her portrayer Rose McGowan. She quickly gained a following making some forget Prue and embrace the new CHARMED ONES.

But me and many liked me moved on, but we never forgot SHANNEN DOHERTY or her iconic character of Prue Halliwell.

Charmed: Season 3 Season Finale

ALL HELL BREAKS LOOSE bka: THE DEATH OF PRUDENCE "PRUE" HALLIWELL

There are many opinions in the issue that left CHARMED without it's star SHANNEN DOHERTY.

Recently Holly Marie Combs stated on Shannen's podcast that Alyssa Milano is the reason for Shannen's firing and Shannen concurred.

Alyssa kind of confirmed it without confirming it just basically saying it was 25 years ago and it's time to move on. Perhaps, Alyssa but revealing a truth doesn't mean you're dwelling in it. It means you're bringing something to the light to be seen.

At any rate...Shannen directed this episode.

The Premise: Piper (HOLLY MARIE COMBS) and Prue (SHANNEN DOHERTY) are exposed as witches while Phoebe is in the underworld to bring her half demon boyfriend home.

As reporters and on lookers gather outside the manor, a crazed fan shoots Piper. Leo is in the underworld with Phoebe and Cole so he can't help so Prue needs to get Piper to the hospital yet none of the trespassers will move.

Never one to use her powers on innocents Prue does just that to move these lurkers and rushes Piper to the hospital.

The Primettes, The Supremes, The Supremes with Diana Ross, Diana Ross and The Supremes and The Supremes

December 21, 1969 last performance as Diana Ross and The Supremes as Diana was being replaced by Jean Terrell. Diana embarked on a solo career and a movie career. With Jean replacing her. The name of the group returned to The Supremes

Line Up: Mary Wilson, Diana Ross and Cindy Birdsong singing Someday We'll Be Together.

The dissension in the ranks came when Motown creator Berry Gordy took a shine to a young Diana Ross. And began making her the lead vocalist putting founding members Ballard and Wilson as backup singers.

Ballard was later replaced by Patti and The Blubells singer Cindy Birdsong after being fired by Gordy reportedly for attitude, substance abuse, weight gain and lateness or not showing up at all.

The Original Line Up...Florence Ballard, Mary Wilson and Diana Ross

The story of Motown's premier female group The Supremes is vast. Originally known as The Primettes (a female group) to compliment The Primes (a male group) later to be known as The Temptations.

Originally The group began with Florence Ballard and classmate and friend Mary Wilson and later a friend named Betty McGlown and then Diane Ross (later known as Diana). When McGlown left to focus on her marriage she was replaced by Barbara Martin. Barbara Martin left after getting married and pregnant leaving Ballard, Wilson and Ross a trio

They went from the Primettes to The Supremes. With no lead singer but rather a sharing of vocals between Florence, Mary and Diana.

But dissension in ranks began as The Supremes once called THE NO HIT SUPREMES began banging out hit after hit.

A LEAGUE OF THEIR OWN (1992)

CLASSIC MOVIE MOMENTS

In this film the men were off to war and baseball wanted to keep their sport alive so they decided to make a major league of female ball players with the mind to end it when the men were back. Placing women back in the role of housewife.

Many brave and strong females fought for their league. Even after their fathers, brothers, husbands and sons came back home and unfortunately some didn't make it back

This movie was directed by the late great actress/director PENNY MARSHALL that fictionalized the actual ALL-AMERICAN GIRLS PROFESSIONAL BASEBALL LEAGUE OR AAGPBL

In the gifs started the tryouts where Mae (MADONNA) and Doris (ROSIE O'DONNELL) tried intimidating farm girls Dottie Hinson (the spectacular GEENA DAVIS) Dottie's little sister Kit Keller (LORI PETTY) and daddy's girl and tomboy Marla Hooch (MEGAN CAVANAUGH) but when Doris threw her best pitch at these girls. Dottie caught the ball with her bare hand. She did what she did and took no questions afterwards.

This movie boasted an incredible cast of ladies plus the ICONIC TOM HANKS as the drunken coach that at first didn't give a damn about ladies playing baseball.

All were fantastic but this movie for me went to the talented and beautiful GEENA DAVIS as Dottie Keller Hinson. Her character played for one year. Had a flirtatious relationship with the drunken coach but then went home to her husband after he returned home from war. While Dottie's sister Kit whom always felt second best to her sister found her calling as a professional baseball player when she defeated her sister's team THE ROCKFORD PEACHES (once her team until she was traded) bringing victory to her new team THE RACINE BELLES.

CHARMED SEASON 3 EPISODE 6

PRIMROSE EMPATH

Prue (SHANNEN DOHERTY) became an empath while trying to help what appeared to be an innocent but was in actuality a demon. Initially believing it was a power boost in the fight against Cole Turner aka Belthazor but instead the power overpowered her.

With the help of the original empath Father Thomas (HARRY GROENER) Prue became badass enough using her own power with the empathic power to defeat the demon Vinceres (MORGAN WEISSER)

As her sisters Piper (HOLLY MARIE COMBS) Phoebe (ALYSSA MILANO) and their whitelight/brother in law Leo (BRIAN KRAUSE) along with Father Thomas looked on.

Prue and Astral Prue kicked some demon ass.
